sigh, can't stop thinking about riding abby's thigh...mmmm. smutty yap ahead!!
abby's taught muscular thigh, slotted so perfectly in between your legs provided otherworldly pleasure, supplying the most brain-meltingly delicious pressure on your swollen bud, and she didn't even have to put in any effort. when she did put in the effort, let's just say your ability to walk was affected afterwards. âĄ
"that's it, doin' so good for me." her strong hands land on the side of your hips to assist you in grinding on her, she's pulling you down forcefully, yet there's still a certain gentleness about her touches. the assuredness of her actions only making you miles wetter.
the rolling of your hips stutters as the sensations in your lower abdomen build, the blissed-out whimpers falling from your lips only increasing in volume, frequency, but most of all, desperation. you find solace in the crook of abby's neck, wrapping shaky arms around her, burying your face in her and taking her soft skin in between your teeth to quiet yourself. that earns a chuckle from her, and her hand snakes up your spineâoriginating waves of chills to spread throughout your bodyâand lands at the nape of your neck, where she takes your hair in her palm and pulls. she doesn't pull hard enough to cause pain, but firmly enough to separate you from her and make you look at her, saying through amused wavers of her voice, "nuh-uh, none of that, wanna hear your pretty voice."
and she knows the edge of her tone got to you and flew straight to your pussy, because she feels you clench around nothing and gush against her exposed skin. you resume your movements, they're growing in urgency as the relief approached, evolving from smooth ruts to noisy smacks of your sopping skin against hers while you bounced. you close your eyes and let your head fall back, no longer restricting any noises and allowing them to fill her ears freely. she grins, and watches you in awe, a blush decorating her beautiful features, a sparkle in her periwinkle eyes, and her rosy lips morphing into a wide grin. she mutters more praises and moves to aid you in riding out the high that hit you like a truck, and she commits the ethereal sight of you using her body like this to her memory.
"that's it, keep fucking yourself on me some more, yeah?"
i know two posts like not even 8 hours apart is crazy business but one's high effort (yes im plugging it. read, sillies đ€) one took three seconds and i WANT THIS OUT MY DRAFTS ALREADY LEMME LIVE I HATE WHEN SHIT MARINATES IN THERE NEED IT GONEEEE

I saw there are a lot of forest fire in chile right now. are you gonna be okay?
Three days after the fact, yeah, I'll be fine, personally and physically, but it's dire, I'm not going to lie. I've never seen so much fire in my life. When you think about a big fire, your impression might be two or three buildings on fire with some firefighter trucks spraying water at it. This was kilometers upon kilometers of raging blazes. Kilometers. Heads up if you are sensitive to these kinds of posts, this isn't a happy one.
Entire hills on fire. Lush green hills reduced to ash and smoke.
Not to mention the urban parts that got hit badly
The official death toll keeps increasing each passing hour as they clear up the rubble and ruins and find more corpses. People I know lost everything. Some people I know lost their loved ones. Dogs are eating corpses on the street because they haven't picked them up yet, so you have neighbors warding off said dogs. Bodies get picked up too badly burned, eaten, decomposed, or a mix thereof to be identified.
It's a tragedy. It all reeks of smoke, there's ash everywhere.
It was sudden, it was brutal. Seeing elderly survivors wondering "what's next for me? I don't have enough years left among the living to rebuild all I lost, all I worked for throughout my life, gone like that" breaks my heart. The government is offering all sorts of aid, but there's also people whose documents, like ID and other identifying documentation, was lost in the fire, so they have to get re-issued an ID before they can actually start filing for aid. The SML (Servicio MĂ©dico Legal) is oversaturated with all that's suddenly on their plate and can't return the bodies of people to their families yet, and these are all people that still need food, shelter, hygiene, and so on after the fact. Seeing the logistical nightmare that becomes life after you lose everything firsthand from other people is sobering and painful. Yeah, they survived, but what comes next? It's a sense of uncertainty that is smothering and asphyxiating, it's hopelessness.
I apologize if I come across as dramatic, especially so as someone who was luckily not affected, but it really, really has been heartbreaking to witness, especially from very up close, as I was there, and it's one thing to know of a tragedy that happened elsewhere, maybe even in your own country, but elsewhere, and it's a whole other beast to have seen it directly as it unfolded.
Keep Chile in your thoughts. If you are able to, please consider donating to DesafĂo Levantemos Chile, to my knowledge the only drive that accepts Paypal, thus, foreign donations, to help the various efforts to rebuild and aid those affected. DesafĂo Levantemos Chile dates back to 2010, when Chile got hit by a devastating earthquake, and is an NGO that bases its continued existence in being able to provide aid during catastrophes such as this one.

Save a Horseđ
Summary: Wandering around in the apocalypse was hell until you came across a a ranch, finding a injured horse you helped it finding the owner and things getting a little heated with an older cowboy
Pairing: Cowboy Negan Smith x f!reader
Warning: Age gap, reader is in 20s Negan is mid 40s, p in v, praise, virginity lose
Inspired by @lanadelnegan storiesđ€
âąMasterlistâą
The apocalypse hit and everything happened so fast, I was with my family at our farm for some time watching the news, listening to the horror stories on the radio, we thought that we could go unscathed since we hadnât been affected and that all the food and water we needed was on our land but all that changed one night when a hoard of walkers ran down our farm, my parents were first trying to fight of the walkers, quickly being ripped apart their screams still lingered in my head whenever I thought about them, then it was my two sisters trying to flee but got surrounded taking them down as well, I was lucky enough to get to my truck finding an opening in the walkers and driving away from my home, leaving me all alone on the road
Now itâs been 2 years going from place to place just trying to survive, to find a reason to keep living in this cruel world, Iâve been able to dodge as many walkers as I can, that wasnât the main problem anymore, the food shortage was what dwindled my hope
My truck had broke down a while back so now Iâve just been wandering on foot, walking through the trees trying to get some shade from Georgia summer heat when I hear a groan and thud, I follow the direction of the whines on a left of what have might caused it, walkers, people, god knows what now a days
Rounding a tree I see a horse laying down on the ground, I approached slowly not wanting to spook it having experience with horses back on the farm, kneeling in front of it petting its soft black mane
âHey girl, what are you doing out here all alone?â She didnât look injured she was laying down fine, maybe she just got hot it was one of the hottest days Iâve ever lived in even in Georgia
I took out one of the bottles of water I found poring some of it over her face to help cool her down then poring the rest in a bowl I had in my bag and she was quick to drink it
After some time I stood up taking her lead rope trying to get her to stand up, I couldnât leave her here all alone for some walkers to eat her alive maybe she came from somewhere near by
Walking through the trees she would occasionally change our course more like she was leading me than I was her until we got to a break in the trees, a ranch in perfect condition, a few horses grazing the field, little sheepâs hoping around, a chicken coop and a cozy little cabin like house right in the middle of the land, a brown bronco truck parked out front
Opening the gate, closing it behind me and the horse so the other animals wouldnât get out like she did somehow, when a deep voice stopped me in my tracks
âSee ya brought Missy back, been wondering where she went off toâ coming down the porch steps was a older man, cowboy hat, white shirt, blue jeans and boots, maybe it was the lack of human contact or even interactions but damn was he fine, I didnât realize he was right infront of me till he cleared his throat breaking me out of my oogling
âOh yeah, I found her out in the woods she must had heat exhaustion so I gave her some waterâ my stomach feels like itâs in knots, I havenât felt like this in so long, heâs said a few words and Iâm entranced by him
âA nice and pretty girl might just have to keep ya around darlingâ he smirked making my knees weak, but I still have my values Iâm not just going to jump his bones even though the urge is so strong
âOh I mean if youâre able to take me in Iâll earn my keep, help around the farm, anything I justâŠ..I canât stay out there alone any longerâ I said praying heâd give me a chance, some hope
âYa sure you know what youâre doing around a farm?â He asked as he looked me up and down, lingering on my chest
âI grew up on a farm, I know what Iâm doingâ
âHmmm well come on in, see where you can stayâ I let Missy go so she could run off with the others, following him inside, it was bigger on the inside than it looked on the outside, cute kitchen, wooden accents around the house, he kept walking down a hallways till he stopped at a room waiting for me to go in first, it was cozy, I donât care if this place was trashy as long as I can be stress free and have someone to keep me company
âYou like it?â He asked from the doorway
âI love it, thank youâ I said as I sit on the bed letting out a long awaited sigh
âHow long were you out there?â
âI donât know time is hard to keep track of out there, maybe 2 yearsâ
âDamn girl, 2 years did you atleast have someone out there?â
âMy farm fell early taking my family with it when the walkers came, so itâs just been me until nowâ
He gave me a pitiful look it made the blood rush to my cheeks
âCome on darlin, supper should be done, should get some food in youâ he said waving me out of the room and Im quick to follow him to the kitchen where I sit at the table as he dishes up some food, fresh food something I havenât had in well forever it feels like
He sits across from me at the table taking his hat of showing his dark brown hair streaked with some grey, biting my lip to stop myself from fantasizing about running my hands through his hair, pulling on it as I feel his beard scratch against my legs
âSo whatâs your name darlin, like to call you something other than sweet namesâ he smirks obviously realizing my constant leering but he didnât make it easy
âIâm fine with your little names but itâs y/nâ
âYou got a spark still considering how long youâve been out there, how old are you even?â
â20 you?â
âLetâs just say Iâm old enough to be your fatherâ
âNot a problem for meâ I said under my breath
A few weeks went by and I did what I said, working hard around the farm, waking up early to collect eggs from the chicken coop, feeding the horses and sheep, picking any ripe berries from the garden all before he was even up, no different from today, I laid berries on our plates and scrambled some eggs finishing right when he comes out of his room, scruffy hair, boxers and a black tank top showing off his tattoos, yes I earned my keep but the tension between us was growing stronger and stronger everyday, every touch, every long night of staying up talking I have to do something about it
âMorning Negan sleep well?â I asked as he sat across from me, our usual spots since that first day
âGreat darlin, wouldâve been better if you were next to me all nightâ he smirked, heâd do this tease me and act like it was nothing but it was something to me especially when Iâd stay up late at night touching myself thinking of the things heâd say
âNegan youâre driving me crazy you know thatâ I said chomping on a strawberry
âYou think I donât hear you?â
âWhat?â My face flushed, please god donât let it be what I think it is
âAt night, when you think Iâm fast asleep, I hear you moaning my name, whimpering when you canât make yourself finishâ he said his voice getting deeper as he leaned further across the table
âI donât know what youâre talking about, I gotta goâŠâŠ..go clean up the hayâ I said flustered and completely embarrassed standing up and leaving the house to the barn
OH MY GOD this is so embarrassing, heâs heard me touch my self to him what is wrong with me, itâs only been a week and I canât control myself, maybe because heâs everything I want, strong sexy makes my knees weak and panties wet, plus I have so much pent up sexual frustration, growing up on a farm and not being allowed to date led to me now, a horny 20 year old fantasizing about a man who generously gave me shelter and food, Iâm a mess, a horny mess that wants to ride this man all day long
I get to the barn pitchforking any loose straw back into the pile trying to figure out what Iâm suppose to do now, how do I face him again after heâs heard me moan his name
âI can hear your crazy thoughts from here darlingâ I look to the barn door seeing him dressed in blue jeans, cowboy boots, his cowboy hat and a brown plaid
âI canât take it anymore Negan, obviously you know that now, please justâŠâŠ..â
âJust what baby?â He asks his voice deeper again as he gets closer gripping my waist, his hands alone engulfing me
âJust touch meâ
He leans down grabbing the back of my thighs lifting me to straddle his hips, my arms wrapped around his shoulders now face to face
âYou sure you can handle this sweetheart?â
âI need it, I need you to fuck me please Iâve been so goodâ I say as he litters my neck with sloppy kisses
âYou have, such a good girl for me, guess you deserve a big reward for thatâ he smirks as he squeezes my ass, laying my down in the hay pile
âFuck you got me so hard, you know how hard it was to not bust into your room hearing your sweet moans just begging for me to plow this pussy?â He grips the bottom of my sundress hauling it off over my head leaving me in just my panties, my tits completely exposed
Hearing him groan as his hands roam my body, from my hips up my stomach to caress my tits rubbing his thumbs over them making my panties even more soaked
âThat feels so good, doesnât feel like this *fuck* when I tryâ I whimper my body feeling like itâs on fire
âNo one ever make you feel good darling?â He says as he leaves kitten licks against my nipples feeling like lighting shooting from them to my clit, trying to grind against his thigh between my legs
âNo, no oneâs everâŠ..â
âNo ones ever touched you, youâre a virgin?â He continues to suck hickeys down my stomach stopping at the hem of my panties
âOnly youâ I moan needing more
âDonât worry Iâll make you feel good babyâ he removed everything heâd wearing going to throw his hat in the pile of clothes but is top him
âStop!âŠâŠkeep it onâ
âYou like cowboys? Wanna take a ride?â He smirks as he pulls down my panties leaving us both naked
âI mean I did save your horse, itâs only right to ride the cowboyâ I say as I flip him over to straddle his hips, his dick standing big thick and prominent, heâs really gonna stretch me out good
âOh ya itâs only rightâ he laughs squeezing my hips hard as he helps me move them back and forth grinding on his dick getting it wet
âI need it pleaseâ
âTake your time darlingâ he says as he lifts me up so Iâm hovering right above him feeling his tip gently pushing against me
I slowly push down feeling the pressure and stretch, it hurt god it was way bigger than my two fingers
âFuck baby youâre so tightâ he grunts
âIs itâŠâŠ.is it all in, youâre so big I donât know if I can take much moreâ I moan uncontrollably, all this sexual frustration finally breaking free
âJust a little more, come on be a good girl and take itâ he helps push me down the rest of the way till I feel his skin flush against my clit
I sigh I relief that I got it all in but the sting isnât pleasant
âTake your time cowgirl, wanna get you nice and stretched before you try and ride your cowboyâ he laughs as he sits up kissing my neck again and rubbing my clit to help distract the pain
âGod I canât waitâ I say gripping his shoulders as I start moving up and down, slowly at first feeling him deeper and deeper each time
âFuck baby this pussy is gonna be the death of meâ I take his hat putting it on holding it with one hand just like I would when riding a mechanical bull, bouncing and gyrating fast and harder and deeper feeling him hit that spot where it makes me see stars and screaming his name over and over as I feel that tension build up in my lower stomach
âCome on cowgirl, cum on my dick, make yourself cum, let it outâ he says meeting my thrusts over and over driving even deeper
My hearing goes fuzzy feeling like my whole body is lit up with pleasure, itâs never felt this good before doing it by myself, soon feeling a warm liquid shoot up inside me, dripping down in between us making a sticky hot mess
Coming back down to earth from that mind blowing orgasm I feel his hands roaming up and down my back, his chest pressed against mine
âDid I do it rightâ I moan biting my lip slowly grinding on him
âDamn darling, that was the best fuck of my life, yeah you did it right, look great doing it to, could get us to thisâ he says laying back in the hay hands behind his head
I sat up feeling him slide out whining when he popped out his cum dripping onto the hay as I lean down against his chest
âI want moreâ
âDamn baby girl, they were right good girls really are the most frustratedâ
We spent the rest of the day in the barn, him taking me in every position imaginable, everyone better than the last until we were exhausted and my pussy ached so good
âGlad you found my horse that dayâ
âMe too Neganâ
I want this man desperately damn, Iâm newish to writing this kind of story so if you got any tips lmk

âDid the severity of the situation finally click in your thick skulls, or do I have to waste more of my breath spelling it out for you?â
When MIKEY returned from his much needed evening snooze in the break room you threatened sweetly advised him to take after working for 17 hours straight, he was expecting to return to the shitstorm he left behind. However, when he entered his office, to his muted surprise there you were, in the middle of berating a handful of subordinates nearly twice your size, all shrunk within themselves as your sharp tone pierced through them all. He stood in the doorway with a curious gaze, head tilted ever so slightly as he made sure to keep quiet so not to notify you of his presence.
Mikey took note of your hip popped outward, balled fist rested upon it in the stance he knew all too well whenever you were on your last nerve. Knowing what those idiots did, someone was bound to stumble outta there in tears; your fury wasnât for the weak.
You eyed the group with raised brows, expectant. âWell?â
One member was brave, or stupid enough to actually answer. He hesitated, but cleared his throat and replied, âI-It was an honest mistakeâŠwe thought the product was secured in the truck already when we made the exchange, b-but-â
âB-BâBullshit. You were given specific instructions to check the inventory to make sure those smarmy assholes werenât trying pull a fast one, and you were too careless to do a full sweep. You failed abortions not only made Bonten look like complete amateurs, but you added more nonsense for my man to deal with all because you didnât check the back of the goddamn trucks!â
You flung the clipboard you were holding at the guyâs head, making them all duck around to avoid getting hit, only one unlucky sucker wasnât as quick as the wooden projectile got him right in the nose. He yelped, no doubt it was broken with the sheer amount of force you put in the throw. Mikey barely flinched, but he did blink a few times in astonishment.
âYouâre gonna hunt those fuckers down like dogs and make right of your âmistakeâ by the end of today, or Iâm gonna have Sanzu chop you into pieces and throw you in the Shinano River-!â Mikey cleared his throat.
You swiftly looked over your shoulder at the noise, mood doing a complete 180 when you locked eyes with the object of your affection, skittering over to wrap him in your arms. âOh! Jiro, baby, I didnât hear you come in.â
ââs okay..â he leaned into your warmth, eyes hooded as he graced you with a faint, sleepy grin. âDidnât want to interrupt your.. meeting. Seemed serious.â
You playfully rolled your eyes. âJust doing a little âhousekeepingâ until you got enough rest, thatâs all.â
He slowly nodded, lips pursed. âCouldâve sworn I pay good money for people to do that for me.â
âYou do, but I was already here. Figured it was more productive to handle it myself rather than waste time looking for someone available. Besides, had to make sure you didnât try to sneak your narrow butt back in here to continue workingâWe both know Iâm the only one around here who can keep you in check.â
He couldnât argue with that.
âMm.. canât say you donât fill the role of boss rather nicely. It suits you. Should have you do it more often.â
Though you were sure he was teasing you, you couldnât help but feel yourself grow warm at his praise. You lightly hit his arm, bashful. How this was the same woman who struck fear in a room full of criminals was beyond comprehension, but he wouldnât have it any other way.
Speaking of which.. Mikey couldnât help but notice the said group of subordinates silently begging for him to reconsider in his peripheral, hands clasped in prayer while the one with the busted nose bowed deeply to the floor, forehead to hardwood. It was as if the idea of you being in charge any longer brought them great despair. How interesting.
Huffing through his nose, Mikey placed a loving kiss on your forehead whilst eyeing the group behind majority of his stress for the day, void of any remorse as he coldly spoke.
âMatter of fact.. think âm still feeling a little tired, angel. How about you handle another hour fâme? Or two?â
The silence was deafening as the dual-color eyed man avoided looking at you while you stitched him up without a word. When you were greeted by a bleeding KAKUCHO at your doorstep a little past midnight, pale in the face and could barely stand, there were no questions asked as you quickly escorted him into your home, setting him gently on the couch before you sprung for your first aid in the kitchen. He wasnât sure what he could say in that moment, feeling like a complete moron for even showing up looking like he fled a crime scene which he kinda did but thatâs besides the point. Your relationship was still in the budding phase, just starting to get a feel of one another as you tested the waters.
Well, consider the waters tested.
âYouâre not really an undercover cop, are you?â
Kakucho gulped. He slowly shook his head, eyes trained on his lap while yours felt like they were burning holes right through him. You nodded as you continued carefully stitching him up. It wasnât the best, but it would hold him over until he got proper medical attention. At first, he figured that would be all you said to him. But, when you completed dressing the wound, you asked a follow up question. âItâs something illegal, isnât it?â
He couldnât bring himself to answer, his strained grip on his pant leg enough response. Kakucho half expected you to berate him, curse him for potentially endangering your life, for lying.
â.. forgive me..â he croaked, bowing his head.
He felt sick to his stomach, he couldnât bear the thought of you despising him, but heâd honor your wishes without protest if you never wanted to see him againâŠ
However, what he didnât expect was for you cup the sides of his face and bring his wavering gaze to your soft one. You smiled endearingly at the bewilderment that overcame his ashamed expression, him blinking at you widely with tears hanging onto his lashes like a wounded puppy. Your thumb ghosted over the tiny droplets, careful not to aggravate the bruise forming around the socket.
Leaning forward to shower him with tender kisses, Kakucho was at a crossroadâOne side wanted nothing more than to melt into a puddle of goo, but the other refused to believe that he wasnât hallucinating, waiting for the sick twisted punchline of this dream come true. Feeling him still so tense in your hold, you leaned back with your smile still present.
âThis doesnât change how I feel about you, Hitto.â
Kakucho blinked. Then, he meekly replied. âW-what?â
You coyly tilted your head, âTo be honest, I always figured there was somethingâŠoff about you. Like, you were holding something back. My first guess was that you were seeing other women-â
âNever.â His eyes switched from uncertain to stern in a matter of seconds, as if the implication alone repulsed him. He softened once you giggled at his declaration, patting his leg in reassurance.
âI know. Youâre much too sweet to be a player. I pondered over it for a while, thought back to how we usually met up late at night, or you would have to leave at odd times. My second guess was your work just kept you really busy.. and after tonight.. after all of this,â you gestured at the blood stains everywhere, âsafe to say I was on the right track.â
Kakucho hesitated. âAnd that doesnâtâŠput you off?â
âThat youâre a thug?â He winced, but nodded. The silence that followed behind was borderline suffocating, leaving his hands sweaty and nerves shot as he anticipated your response with baited breath. But, he didnât need to worry.
With a loving coo, you placed a kiss to the corner of his mouth, right over the split in his lip causing him to flinch slightly at the sting, but he welcomed the affection all the same. However, when your warm tongue peeked out to soothe the cut in slow, teasing swipes, homie nearly choked.
Kakuâs jaw fluttered open as a soft gasp escaped him next, the sensation foreign but not unpleasant as he felt his entire face heat up like a furnace. Your sudden proximity forced him back on the couch while you slid down to the floor betwixt his spread legs, making his head spin; this wasnât going like how he thought it would at all. Being careful of his stitches, your arms rested on either side of him as your tongue explored his mouth, making him groan softly at the feeling of the wet muscle tangling around his so earnestly, hand reaching up instinctively to caress the side of your face as he deepened the kiss. His other hand held your waist, gripping your shirt as if he couldnât believe you were thereâThat you wanted to stay.
The ravenetteâs breath hitched when he felt one of your hands trailing up his thigh, slowly but surely making your way to his stiffening cock confined in his pants. Slightly startled, Kakucho pulled back from the heated kiss, a string of saliva still keeping you connected as you panted in each otherâs mouths. Before he could question what you were up to, he cuts himself off with a whimper when you palmed his thick shaft while maintaining intense eye contact, a smile on your face as you sent the gangster into paradise when you sweetly whispered:
âAlways wanted to be a ride or die.â
It was as if someone pushed him into an alternate dimension.
Not even moments ago, you were showing SANZU a cute tiktok of a kitten wrapped up like a burrito and mewing dramatically, nearly tearing up at the sight as you tugged on his arm and pleaded for him to buy you one just like it. Having bought out the entire evening in one of Tokyoâs most exclusive five star restaurants for your anniversary, Sanzu figured itâd be nothing more than a simple night with his lovely wife. Manâs mustâve forgot who he was.
When those fools tried an ambush on him, Sanzu was more than happy dealing with them quickly by just airing them out until his gun was empty. Although, as he went reaching for it, imagine his shock when you held his wrist to stop him. You had a different sentiment.
It was like a scene out of one of his most crazed fantasies. His lovely wife, holding his beloved katana to an enemyâs throat, covered in the blood of his comrades as he sobbed pathetically for you to spare him. As if Beatrix Kiddo entered the chat, you sliced into them with a swiftness, shredding through them all like paper; a dinner and a show. He wasnât sure when you learned how to wield the weapon with such grace and precision, but he couldnât care less when his pants were this fucking tight. But he couldnât let you have all the fun, watching your six any time a goon tried to get the jump on you while your back was turned, Sanzu was quick to bust a cap right between their eyes. After spilling gallons of blood from the opposition, leaving one still standing, you decided to play with him a little bit.
âP-Please! I-if you let me go, youâll never see my face again, I-I swear! I was just..just following orders, I-â
âOh, câmon, whereâs your conviction from earlier, huh? You were so confident before I minced all your friends. What was it you said youâd do to me once you killed my husband? Canât seem to put my finger on itâŠHaru, darling, do you recall?â
Sanzu, with his chin placed atop his interlocked fingers like a smitten fool, smoothly answered, âSaid heâd âFuck you raw on top of my corpseâ.â
You winked. âBingo. Thank you, handsome.â
âWelcome, gorgeous.â
The sniveling man yipped when the blade nicked his skin, a thin stream of blood flowing in its wake as you pressed it closer to his throat. His heart rate paced like a rabbit caught in a trap, nostrils flaring as he breathed sporadically while his life laid in the palm of your hand.
âGuess that didnât go according to plan, aw.â You sardonically cooed, spurring on a bit of rage as he gritted out a dry âFuck youâ in his final efforts of showing dominance. âOo, thereâs that passion we were missing!~ Letâs see how much more I can carve outta yo-â
Hearing the sound of faint sirens in the distance, Sanzu clicked his tongue in annoyance. With a grumble the pinkette popped a piece of his steak in his mouth and spoke between chews as he cocked his gun, âAlright, [_____], playtimeâs over. We gotta haul ass.â
You pouted. âBut, we didnât get to fuck on top of his corpse...â
Sanzu swallowed, hard. He couldnât help but internally groan with desire at your innocent display of vulgarity, tempted to take you up on that offer, but the last thing he wanted was for you to be involved in a standoff with the cops. Youâve proven you can handle yourself very well, a lot more than he realized thatâs for sure, but you were still his precious baby at the end of the day.
Better to keep you out of danger than thrust you in more of it, no matter how much the thought excited him.
âNext time, pretty baby.â
You huffed. âFine.â
Without hesitation, you strummed the manâs throat like a cello, the katana tearing through the skin with ease. The symphony of gurgles that escaped him sent shivers down Sanzuâs spine as he watched in manic glee as the man choked on his own blood. You never looked more stunning covered in red and holding his blade like it belonged in your hand, he wanted nothing more than to ravish you on the spot, but as the sirens drew near he tamed his urges just this once. You took his extended hand gratefully, swaying them as you both rushed for the restaurantâs back exit.
Once outside, while he scoped out the area for any cops patrolling, you nudged him. When he turned to see you beaming at him whilst blood stained your face, he swore his heart skipped a beat. âWhat?â
âYouâre getting me a kitten to make up for this, right, Haru?â
He raised a brow, but exhaled a chuckle. âSweetheart. Show off that violent side of yours more often, and you can have as many as you want.â
âYou good, ma?â A delightful shiver ran down your spine and straight to your pussy.
That was always the visceral response your body had whenever RINDOU spoke, especially low and intimately in your ear. From either gently waking you first thing in the morning, or to secretly shit-talk in crowed areas, it was his go-to method to getting your attention effortlessly. A dangerous method, one that was about to make you act up in front of all these important clients, decorum be damned.
âI am now,â you purred, falling back into his embrace as strong arms came vining around your waist. He chuckled softly, pressing a kiss to your temple as he gently swayed you both to the rhythm of the soft jazz playing over the speakers of the ballroom.
âMissed me that bad, huh.â You nodded with a slight pout, turning in his hold to stare up longingly into his eyes. They were lidded, heady. Another dangerous method of your husbandâs that made you weak in the kneesâhis undivided attention. âBored?â
âSo fucking bored,â you whined, tugging on his lapels. âThese things are always such a drab..â
Rindou hummed, hands slowly slipping down from your waist to hold your hips. You tensed slightly, not even bothering to mask the second shiver it caused. His grin turned sharp in response, head tilting. âYa sure thatâs what has you so out of it?â
You tilted yours, confused. He continued, âYouâre not as subtle as you think you are. Youâve been eye-fucking me for the past ten minutes. Came over to make sure you werenât dripping all over the damn floorââ
âShut up,â you jabbed him in the side, face boiling. Rindou barely flinched, squeezing your hips as he snickered cheekily at your embarrassment. âYouâre so irking...â
âYeah?â
âYes. If you knew I was horny, I couldâve been folded on my back ten minutes ago.â
âHm, almost as if I was doing something important, likeâŠâ he trailed off, making you squint and almost jab him again until he grabbed your hand in the last second, bringing it to his chest with a smug grin, âworking.â
You huffed, âIâm important tooâŠdo me.â
Rindou snorted, but brought your hand up to gently kiss the inside of your wrist with a tender look in his eyes. ââcourse you are, baby. Didnât know it would go for this long, âm sorry.â
âThen, how âbout you and I take a littleâŠsmoke break,â you suggested, hopeful; desperate. However, itâs futile when your husband clicks his tongue.
âNo can do. Kakuchoâs still not over the last time we took a âsmoke breakâ together.â
âHeâs not? Seriously? We werenât even gone for that long!â
He raised a brow. â[______]. The check made it back to the table before we did.â
You groaned, exasperated as you wiggled around in his hold. Rindou merely watched in mirth, not even phased as he let you finish your tiny tantrum. He teasingly cooed, âI know, I know. Poor thing canât go a day without something plugging up her slutty little hole.â
âShut up..!â You shrunk into his chest to hide away from the sultry words spoken directly in your ear, thighs clenching together as his deep chuckle came soon after.
Rindou was very much aware of your voice kink. It filled his ego to the brim with how needy you were, crumbling anytime he so much as spoke to you in a certain way. Thereâs nothing he wanted more than to ditch and bury himself in your thighs, giving it to you however you wished, for as long as you wished, whispering praises to you with a sprinkle of degradation in there to keep you craving for more of his soothing voice. But, unless he wanted his nuts handed to him on a silver platter by his stickler of a superior, you were just gonna have to wait.
And he knew how much you hated doing that.
âTen minutes.â
He sighed. â[_____]âŠâ
âFive minutes?â
âWe canât-â
âA minute, god, I donât even have to finish, Rin, please.â You whined in his ear, forcing him to close his eyes as a means to strengthen his resolve. It didnât do much help when your arms wrapped around his neck to gently rake your manicured nails against the nape, your thigh deliberately rubbing up against the growing erection confined in his dress pants. The tables had turned with a shiver now running down his spine, mind turning to mush as common sense slowly sunk into his dick. MaybeâŠsparing just a few minutes wouldnât hurt.
Even though the lavender-haired gangster couldnât see your face, he was certain you were grinning victoriously at the sound of his resolve breaking instantly, the slow exhale through his nose being all the confirmation necessary. Clearly, you werenât the only one who was needy.
Swallowing down a groan, he hissed through clenched teeth, âYouâre gonna be the death of me, yâknow that?â
Giggling, you were already leading him toward the nearest exit, swiftly evading the eyes of his coworkers, satisfied that you were getting exactly what you wanted in the end.
âBetter me than Kaku.â
âLike Iâve already explained to you, Officer. My husbandâs been here all day. Dunno if youâve noticed, but he canât exactly afford to leave my side for more than ten minuets let alone an entire evening.â
Despite gesturing to your swollen stomach and the small child shyly peering from behind your leg, the cop still fixed you with a skeptical look. You did your best to remain unnerved, providing comfort for not only your son but yourself as you ran your fingers through his hair. Apparently, there had been a shootout that happened in the streets of Tokyo, and apparently a witness was able to describe one of the shootersâŠ
Henceforth, the unexpected visit from law enforcement. Again.
âMhm. And, may I ask, where exactly your husband is now? Surely if heâs been tending to his pregnant wife, he wouldnât have her answering the front door.â He raised an eyebrow, wry grin stretched across his face.
You worked your jaw, annoyed. âIn the shower.â
âHow convenient. Washing off the blood, I assume?â
âYou can assume whatever you want, it doesnât change my answer. Heâs been here, with us. Whoever said they saw him was mistaken. Now, if youâll excuse me, Iâve got mouths to feed. Have an evening, Officer.â
âNow, hold onââ
Without an ounce of hesitation, or care, you slammed the door in his smug little face. And just like thatâŠblissful silence. A grand weight lifted off your shoulders at the disgruntled sound of the pigâs flat-footed steps exiting out of your day. Releasing a slow exhale, your son took it upon himself to blow a raspberry at the closed door, having worked up the courage to mock the officer now that he was out of sight.
You grinned as you ruffled his hair, endearingly. âYou tell âem, baby.â
However, that silence didnât last long as RAN made himself known now that the coast was clear. Having hid around the corner in case things escalated, he too released an exhale, easy grin spreading across his face. Though your child was happy to see him, racing to cling onto his long legs, you merely glared in disapproval. Based off his appearance alone, disheveled and glistening with sweat, you wished your fib from earlier was true; he needed a shower.
â[S/n], donât touch daddy right nowâŠhe stinks.â
Though a bit childish in your phrasing, Ran was well aware it held an underlying meaning, a chill running down his spine under your harsh scrutiny. He cleared his throat, somewhat nervous, as he searched his brain for honeyed words that would soothe your soreness toward him. And he laid it on thick.
âThatâs âcause Daddy had to run the rest of the way home to make sure his babies were safe,â he leaned down to scoop up the clinging child, lightly tickling at his stomach poking out from under his pajama shirt to receive more joyous squeals. âBut, Mommy scared away the big, mean police man all on her own, didnât she?â
âYea!â [S/n] squeaked, bright laugh bouncing off the walls as he wiggled around eagerly. You felt the corner of your lip twitch upward at the sight, but you pursed your lips to hide the impending smileâRan noticed. He always did.
âYeah.. weâre real lucky to have someone as wonderful as her to watch our backs whenever weâre in trouble.. right, mama?â
Your glare still remained, though not as harsh compared to moments ago. Despite the mirth swirling in his lavender gaze, you took note of something else hiding within. Something more raw, more vulnerable.
Remorse.
Ran didnât like getting you caught up in his business. He did everything he could to ensure that none of you were ever exposed to the ugly parts of his life. Tonight, he was sloppy. He fucked up, and he knew that. The second shit hit the fan, his only priority was his family⊠You had every right to be livid with him, having both your son and a pregnancy to deal with virtually on your own, while also covering his ass from prying cops itching to nail him to the wallâŠItâs a miracle how you havenât packed up and left him yetâŠ
And he thanks his lucky stars that you havenât.
With another deep exhale, you rubbed your temple. âI donât know what it is that you do in those streets to cause such an upset, Ran-â
âFor the record, tonight wasnât exactly my fault-â
â-and I donât care. I justâŠâ
Your exhausted tone was more than enough to shut him up. He felt his throat tighten as he gently bounced your son on his hip to distract his increasing anxiety. The lavender-haired man mentally prepared for your scolding, already set on sleeping in the dog house if thatâs what got him in your good graces againâŠbut it doesnât come. Eyes that were hyper focused on [S/n] fiddling with his loosened tie slowly trailed up at the sound of you huffing in, what he assumed to be, relief.
Waddling over to your boys, you reached up to caress their faces. Instinctively, they nuzzled into your palms, Ran a little more hesitant than your beaming son before reaching out with his free hand to touch your stomach. When your unborn child kicked against it in response, you noticed his shoulders visibly relax. Your thumb gently rubbed under his eye, frowning at the dark circles that formed on the pale skin. He looked solemnly into your eyes, turning his head slightly to kiss the inside of your palm. You sighed once more, eventually granting him a smile in reassurance.
Despite his abnormal lifestyle, and how hectic it could get, âIâm just glad youâre home.â

Tommy Kinard, from a long line of Gloucester fishermen. Hence his penchant for ill-fitting jeans, flannel, and affection via bitchiness.
He and Evan are sitting on the little bench outside The Causeway waiting for their chowderâbest in the country, hands downâwhen Evan, who's been quietly studying boats in various stages of winter wrapping across the road, suddenly asks, "Why did you leave here? It's awesome. The downtown area looks like something out of a postcardâ"
"It does not," Tommy interjects. "Rockport's downtown, on the other hand..."
"âand the beaches feel like real beaches, even if they do smell like shit."
Tommy tilts his head back and inhales the heavy, but comfortingly familiar stench of low tide. "I left because the town's unofficial motto used to be 'Come for the heroin, stay because you've developed a crippling heroin addiction.'"
Unimpressed, Evan nudges him with an elbow, then jumps to his feet to get the door for a family of six who will be waiting at least a month for a table big enough to accommodate them to open up.
The Causeway is approximately the size of an elevator car. Despite its outward appearance, it's relatively new; it hadn't been there when Tommy was a kid. The little cinema next door had been, though, and he feels a surge of pride for the Williams family that it's still going after all this time.
"No, but seriously." Evan hunkers back down next to him. "Why'd you leave?"
"Why'd you leave Hershey?" Tommy counters.
The corner of Evan's mouth twitches knowingly. He's got Tommy's number in a way no one else does. "You know why I left. But you could've stayed here and done anything. Massachusetts might be even more progressive than CaliforniaâI mean, it was the first state to legalize gay marriage. Plus, I know there's an air base nearby."
"Hanscom," Tommy says. "It belongs to the Air Force and I wouldn't have been caught dead joining them."
Evan gives him a dubious look. "But the Army was okay?"
"Don't you know, Evan? The Army is for real men," he says with a grin, putting an emphasis on it so Evan knows just whose words he's parroting. "The Air Force is for faâ"
"Yeah, okay, I got it," Evan says loudly, cutting a furtive glance at the people on the other bench, who are too busy looking at their phones and not talking to each other to pay attention to any casual homophobia. "You're gonna get us run out of town."
"Please, it's Gloucester. If anything, they'll probably join in."
Evan deflates a little, pouting, and Tommy is helpless against the urge to press a kiss to his hair. What Evan doesn't understand is that Massachusetts is like an impressionist painting: beautiful if you're standing back far enough to see the whole of it, but get closer and it's as ugly as anywhere else.
"My point was," Tommy continues, "I left because I needed something more than what this place could give me, same as you. And also I needed to be somewhere with a spring wind chill above -10°."
"You bitch if the temps hit above 70," Evan points out.
"I also bitch if the day ends in Y." Tommy shrugs. "Complaining is the official state sport, especially when it comes to the weather."
Checking his phone for the time, Evan heaves an impatient sigh and drops his chin onto Tommy's shoulder. He's too used to LA's food trucks to last a minute here. "There's so much here, though. Like, Worcester looked fun."
Tommy winces. "It's pronounced 'Woo-ster'."
Wide-eyed, Evan lifts his head. "You're shitting me."
"I shit you not," Tommy says. "And Worcester's okay. It's big, though. And a pain in the ass to navigate."
"What's beyond Worcester?"
"Nobody knows." He coughs out a 'fuck' when Evan buries an elbow in his gut.
Laughing, Evan echoes, "'Fahk.' There's the accent I've been hoping to hear. I mean, heeyah. Try and hide it all you want, Kinard, I know what you are."
"Okay, Hershey, I dare you to say 'water' like a normal person," Tommy can't help but tease. "Remember, there's no U or D in it."
Eyes sparkling, Evan presses close with a shit-eating grin and says slyly, "I'll show U where to put a D."
Before Tommy can shove him off the bench for that one, the door to the restaurant opens and a head pops out. "Order for Kinard?"
"Saved by the clams," Evan chortles, standing up when Tommy goes to grab the bag from the kid. He gives a long, luxurious stretch, and Tommy can't help but let his eyes be drawn to Evan's belly when his shirt rides up. "Where do you want to eat? We could go sit down by the beach. There's a big dahlia garden display there."
Huh. They still do that? That's actually kind of sweet, but Tommy has plans and they don't involve the public.
"If you don't mind a bit of light trespassing, we'll head up to Mussel Point. The view's well worth it."
Intrigued, Evan lifts his brows. "Trespassing? Gee, Tommy, you take me to all the best places."
That snark is nowhere to be found half an hour later when Evan's full of clam chowder and getting ruthlessly jacked off while the ocean bays at his feet, but Tommy doesn't call him on it.

Y/N felt her carefully constructed facade begin to crumble as she looked into Seungcheol's eyes. The lead vocalist and leader of HHT stood before her, his usually melodic voice now tight with concern and something that sounded like barely contained frustration.
"Y/N," he said, his voice low and urgent. "We need to talk about Mingyu."
She glanced around the hallway, acutely aware of the curious glances from passing employees. This was not a conversation she wanted to have in the middle of her father's company.
"Not here," she hissed, grabbing Seungcheol's arm and pulling him towards an empty conference room. Once inside, she closed the door and leaned against it, as if she could physically block out the complications that were piling up around her.
"What's going on?" Seungcheol demanded as soon as they were alone. "Mingyu showed up at our dorm this morning looking like he'd been hit by a truck. He's refusing to talk to anyone, and we have that radio interview in a few hours."
Y/N closed her eyes, guilt washing over her. She'd been so focused on protecting herself that she hadn't considered how her decision might affect the band. "I... we ended things," she admitted quietly.
Seungcheol's eyebrows shot up. "Ended things? I didn't realize there were 'things' to end. I thought you two were just..."
"Fooling around?" Y/N supplied bitterly. "Yeah, well, it turns out feelings don't always follow the rules we set for them."
Understanding dawned on Seungcheol's face, followed quickly by sympathy. "You fell for him."
It wasn't a question, but Y/N nodded anyway. "I did. And when I tried to talk to him about it, he made it clear that he didn't want anything more. So I ended it."
Seungcheol ran a hand through his hair, a habit he shared with Mingyu when he was stressed. "Shit, Y/N. This is... complicated."
"You think I don't know that?" Y/N snapped, then immediately regretted her tone. "I'm sorry. I just... I don't know what to do. And now my father wants me to take a more active role in managing you guys, and I-"
"Wait, what?" Seungcheol interrupted. "You're going to be our manager?"
Y/N shook her head. "Not exactly. He wants me to be more involved in the management side of things. Apparently, I 'understand your demographic' better than the older executives."
Seungcheol let out a low whistle. "Talk about adding fuel to the fire. How are you going to manage that with... everything else going on?"
"I have no idea," Y/N admitted, slumping into one of the conference room chairs. "I never wanted this, Cheol. Any of it. I was happy being the party girl, the CEO's wild child. It was easier."
Seungcheol took the seat next to her, his expression softening. "Maybe it was easier, but was it really what you wanted? Because the Y/N I know is smart, talented, and more than capable of handling whatever comes her way."
Y/N felt a lump form in her throat at his words. It had been a long time since someone had seen her as more than just a pretty face or a potential scandal. "I'm scared," she whispered.
Seungcheol reached out, taking her hand in his. "It's okay to be scared. But you're not alone in this, Y/N. The band... we care about you. Both you and Mingyu."
At the mention of Mingyu's name, Y/N felt her heart clench. "How is he, really?"
Seungcheol sighed. "He's hurting. I've never seen him like this before. Whatever was between you two... I don't think it was as casual for him as he let on."
Y/N's head snapped up, hope and confusion warring in her chest. "What do you mean?"
"I mean," Seungcheol said carefully, "that maybe you two need to have an actual conversation. One where you both be honest about your feelings."
"I tried that," Y/N protested. "He laughed it off."
"And you immediately ended things instead of pushing the issue," Seungcheol pointed out gently. "Look, I'm not taking sides here. You're both my friends. But I think there's more to this story than either of you are seeing right now."
Y/N wanted to argue, to defend her decision. But a small part of her wondered if Seungcheol might be right. Had she been too hasty? Too afraid of rejection to really hear what Mingyu was saying â or not saying?
Before she could respond, Seungcheol's phone buzzed. He glanced at it and grimaced. "That's our manager. I need to go wrangle the guys for this interview." He stood, then hesitated. "Y/N, promise me you'll think about what I said. And maybe... maybe come to our studio session tomorrow? We could use your input on some of the new tracks."
Y/N nodded, not trusting herself to speak. As Seungcheol reached the door, she found her voice. "Cheol? Thank you. For everything."
He flashed her a warm smile. "That's what friends are for. Just... don't let fear make your decisions for you, okay?"
As the door closed behind him, Y/N leaned back in her chair, her mind whirling. She'd thought ending things with Mingyu would simplify her life, but it seemed to have done the exact opposite. Now she had a broken heart, a new job she wasn't sure she wanted, and the possibility that she'd misunderstood everything about her relationship with Mingyu.
Her phone buzzed, and she looked down to see a message from her father:
"Meeting with HHT's team tomorrow at 10 AM. Be there."
Y/N closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. Tomorrow, she would have to face Mingyu, the band, and her new responsibilities all at once. She wasn't sure if she was ready, but she knew she didn't have a choice.
As she left the conference room and made her way out of the building, Y/N made a decision. She would go to the studio session tomorrow, as Seungcheol had suggested. She would face her fears head-on.
And maybe, just maybe, she would find the courage to have that honest conversation with Mingyu. Because if there was even a chance that he felt the same way...
Well, that was a risk she might just be willing to take.
-
Y/N stood outside the studio door, her hand hovering over the handle. She could hear muffled voices and the faint strains of music from inside. Taking a deep breath, she smoothed down her blazer and steeled herself. Today, she wasn't Hwang Y/N, the party girl with a broken heart. She was Hwang Y/N, the professional, here to do a job.
With that thought firmly in mind, she pushed open the door.
The chatter inside the studio immediately died down as she entered. Five pairs of eyes turned to her, but she only allowed herself to focus on one â Seungcheol's. He gave her a small, encouraging nod.
"Good morning, everyone," Y/N said, proud of how steady her voice sounded. "I hope you don't mind, but I'll be sitting in on your session today. My father thinks it would be beneficial for me to have a more hands-on role in the creative process."
She deliberately avoided looking at Mingyu, who she could sense was staring at her intently from his position by the guitar rack.
Vernon was the first to break the awkward silence. "Cool, always good to have a fresh pair of ears. We're working on the bridge for the title track. Want to hear what we've got so far?"
Y/N nodded gratefully, taking a seat next to the sound engineer. As the music started playing, she allowed herself to get lost in the melody, analyzing the composition and arrangement. This, at least, was familiar territory. She'd always had a good ear for music, even if she'd never pursued it professionally.
As the song progressed, she found herself nodding along, impressed by the intricate harmonies and the way Seungcheol's powerful vocals blended with the instrumental. But something was off in the bridge â the guitar riff didn't quite mesh with the rest of the arrangement.
When the song ended, Y/N cleared her throat. "That was great, guys. Really solid work. But I think the bridge needs some tweaking. The guitar part feels a bit... disjointed."
She saw Mingyu stiffen out of the corner of her eye, but she kept her gaze fixed on Seungcheol.
"What do you suggest?" Wonwoo asked, leaning forward with interest.
Y/N bit her lip, considering. "Maybe if we simplified the riff a bit? Something that complements Seungcheol's vocals rather than competing with them."
There was a moment of silence, and then Mingyu spoke for the first time. "And what would you know about composing guitar parts?"
His tone was cold, almost challenging. Y/N finally allowed herself to look at him, keeping her expression neutral despite the way her heart raced at the sight of him. He looked tired, with dark circles under his eyes, but still unfairly handsome.
"I may not be a guitarist," Y/N replied evenly, "but I know what sounds good. And right now, that bridge doesn't flow with the rest of the song."
Mingyu opened his mouth to argue, but Seungcheol cut him off. "She's right, Gyu. I was thinking the same thing, but I couldn't put my finger on why it wasn't working. Let's try simplifying it."
For a moment, it looked like Mingyu might argue further. But then he shrugged, turning back to his guitar. "Fine. Let's hear your ideas then, Y/N."
The way he said her name, like it left a bitter taste in his mouth, made Y/N wince internally. But she pushed through, working with the band to refine the bridge. To her surprise, once they got past the initial awkwardness, the creative process flowed smoothly. Even Mingyu, despite his obvious reluctance, contributed valuable ideas.
As the hours passed, Y/N found herself relaxing into her role. She offered suggestions on vocal arrangements, helped fine-tune lyrics, and even hummed out a melody idea that Vernon quickly turned into a catchy hook for their b-side track.
It wasn't until their manager called for a lunch break that the comfortable bubble of creativity burst. As the others filed out of the studio, chatting about where to grab food, Y/N hung back, gathering her notes. She was so focused on avoiding being alone with Mingyu that she didn't notice Seungcheol had stayed behind until he spoke.
"That wasn't so bad, was it?"
Y/N looked up, offering him a small smile. "No, it wasn't. You guys are incredibly talented. It's... it's an honor to work with you like this."
Seungcheol's expression softened. "You're good at this, Y/N. Really good. Have you ever thought about pursuing music production?"
She shook her head. "Not really. It was always just a hobby. Besides, my father has other plans for me."
"Maybe it's time to make your own plans," Seungcheol suggested gently. Then, after a pause, "Mingyu was watching you, you know. When you weren't looking."
Y/N's heart skipped a beat, but she forced herself to shrug nonchalantly. "We have to work together now. It's bound to be awkward for a while."
Seungcheol looked like he wanted to say more, but just then, the studio door opened and Mingyu walked in, stopping short when he saw them.
"Sorry," he muttered. "Forgot my phone."
The tension in the room was palpable as Mingyu retrieved his phone from beside his guitar. Y/N kept her eyes fixed on her notes, hyper-aware of his every movement.
As he turned to leave, Mingyu paused. "The bridge sounds better now," he said stiffly, not quite looking at Y/N. "Good call."
Before she could respond, he was gone, the door closing firmly behind him.
Y/N let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding. "This is going to be harder than I thought," she admitted quietly.
Seungcheol squeezed her shoulder supportively. "Give it time. And maybe... maybe try talking to him? Outside of work?"
Y/N shook her head firmly. "No. It's better this way. Clean break, professional distance. It's the only way this can work."
As they left the studio to join the others for lunch, Y/N repeated those words in her head like a mantra. Professional distance. It was the right thing to do.
So why did it feel so wrong? -
The atmosphere in the practice room was thick with tension, the usual easy banter replaced by an uncomfortable silence broken only by the sound of instruments being tuned. Seungcheol watched as Mingyu stole yet another glance at Y/N, who was studiously avoiding eye contact as she reviewed some paperwork in the corner. The leader of HHT sighed inwardly, knowing that something had to give.
For weeks now, Seungcheol had noticed the change in dynamics between Mingyu and Y/N. The playful flirtation that had once been a constant source of amusement (and occasional exasperation) for the band had vanished, replaced by awkward silences and stilted interactions. It was more than just personal drama â it was affecting the band's chemistry, and as the leader, Seungcheol knew he had to do something.
"Alright, let's take it from the top," Seungcheol called out, hoping that focusing on the music might alleviate some of the tension.
As they launched into their latest single, Seungcheol couldn't help but notice how Mingyu's usually flawless guitar work seemed off. The tall guitarist kept missing cues, his rhythm slightly out of sync with the rest of the band. Every time this happened, Mingyu's eyes would dart to Y/N, as if seeking her reaction, only to quickly look away when he realized she wasn't even watching.
Y/N, for her part, seemed determined to focus solely on her work. She sat in the corner, ostensibly reviewing marketing reports, but Seungcheol noticed how her pen hadn't moved on the page for the past ten minutes. Every now and then, when she thought no one was looking, her gaze would flicker to Mingyu, a mixture of longing and hurt in her eyes.
After an hour of subpar practice, Seungcheol called for a break. As the other members dispersed, grabbing water bottles and checking their phones, he pulled Vernon and Wonwoo aside.
"We need to talk about the Mingyu-Y/N situation," he said in a low voice, guiding them to a quiet corner of the room.
Vernon nodded, relief evident on his face. "Thank god someone said it. The tension is killing me. I feel like I'm walking on eggshells every time they're in the same room."
Wonwoo frowned, his usually calm demeanor showing signs of strain. "It's affecting our performance too. Did you hear Mingyu during that bridge? I've never heard him miss those notes before."
Seungcheol ran a hand through his hair, a habit he'd picked up when stressed. "I know. That's why we need to do something. I have an idea, but I'm going to need your help."
As Seungcheol outlined his plan, Vernon's eyes widened in disbelief while Wonwoo's narrowed in thought.
"Fake dating?" Vernon whispered, glancing over his shoulder to make sure Mingyu wasn't within earshot. "Isn't that a bit⊠I don't know, dramatic?"
Seungcheol shrugged. "Maybe. But subtle hasn't been working. Those two are too stubborn for their own good. Sometimes you need to fight fire with fire."
Wonwoo nodded slowly. "It could work. But are you sure Y/N will agree to it?"
"Leave Y/N to me," Seungcheol said, a determined glint in his eye. "For now, I need you two to help set the stage. Can I count on you?"
Both Vernon and Wonwoo nodded, though Vernon still looked a bit uncertain. As they broke apart, returning to their instruments, none of them noticed Mingyu watching them with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion.
Later that week, Y/N was working late in her office, the soft glow of her desk lamp the only light in the room. She rubbed her eyes, tired from staring at spreadsheets all day. As she reached for her coffee mug, a soft knock on the door made her jump.
"Come in," she called, straightening up in her chair.
Seungcheol poked his head in, an unusually serious expression on his face. "Got a minute?"
Y/N nodded, gesturing for him to sit. "What's up, Cheol? Is everything okay with the band?"
Seungcheol settled into the chair across from her, his usually relaxed posture tense. "Yes and no. The band is fine, but⊠well, that's kind of what I wanted to talk to you about."
Y/N felt a knot form in her stomach. She had a feeling she knew where this was going. "If this is about Mingyu-"
"It is," Seungcheol cut in gently. "But not in the way you might think. I have a⊠proposition for you."
Y/N raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite herself. "I'm listening."
Seungcheol took a deep breath. "Look, we've all noticed the tension between you two. It's affecting the band, and frankly, I hate seeing you both so miserable."
"I'm not-" Y/N started to protest, but Seungcheol held up a hand.
"Y/N, come on. We've known each other too long for that. You're not happy, and neither is Mingyu. But you're both too stubborn to do anything about it."
Y/N slumped back in her chair, the fight going out of her. "What am I supposed to do, Cheol? He made it clear he doesn't want anything serious. I can't keep putting myself out there just to get hurt again."
Seungcheol leaned forward, his eyes intense. "What if we gave Mingyu a taste of his own medicine? What if⊠we pretended to date?"
Y/N's eyes widened in shock. "What? Cheol, that's crazy. Why would we-"
"To make Mingyu jealous," Seungcheol interrupted. "Look, I've known Mingyu for years. He's stubborn and proud, but he cares about you. A lot. I think seeing you with someone else might be the push he needs to confront his feelings."
Y/N bit her lip, considering. The idea was tempting, but⊠"But what about the band? And my position? Wouldn't it complicate things even more?"
Seungcheol shrugged. "Maybe. But it could also solve our Mingyu problem. Plus, it might help deflect some of the pressure from your dad about taking things seriously. Dating the lead singer of HHT? That's a power move in the industry."
Y/N couldn't help but laugh at that. "You've really thought this through, haven't you?"
"I care about both of you," Seungcheol said sincerely. "And I hate seeing you two dance around each other like this. So, what do you say? Want to be my fake girlfriend?"
After a moment of hesitation, Y/N nodded. "Okay. Let's do it. But we need to set some ground rulesâŠ"
Over the next few days, Seungcheol and Y/N put their plan into action. They started small - sitting closer during meetings, sharing inside jokes, leaving together after practice. The other band members, clued in by Seungcheol, played along perfectly.
Vernon, ever the actor, would waggle his eyebrows suggestively whenever he saw them together. Wonwoo, more subtle in his approach, would casually mention how much time Seungcheol and Y/N had been spending together lately.
Mingyu, however, was oblivious to the plan. At first, he barely seemed to notice the change in dynamics. He was too caught up in his own thoughts, alternating between trying to figure out what had gone wrong with Y/N and convincing himself he didn't care.
But as the days passed, little things started to catch his attention. The way Seungcheol's hand would linger on Y/N's back as they walked into a room. The inside jokes they seemed to share, leaving the rest of the group puzzled. The fact that Y/N was suddenly at every practice session, even when she didn't need to be.
During one particularly grueling practice, Mingyu fumbled a guitar riff he'd played perfectly a hundred times before. His eyes were fixed on Y/N, who was laughing at something Seungcheol had whispered in her ear. The sound of her laughter, once a source of joy for Mingyu, now felt like a knife twisting in his gut.
"Dude, you okay?" Vernon asked, concern evident in his voice.
Mingyu shook his head, trying to clear it. "Yeah, just⊠distracted."
Vernon followed Mingyu's gaze to where Seungcheol and Y/N were huddled together, looking at something on Y/N's phone. "They've been spending a lot of time together lately, huh?" he said, his tone carefully neutral.
Mingyu grunted noncommittally, but his grip on his guitar tightened. "I guess. Not that it's any of my business."
Vernon raised an eyebrow at that but didn't push further. As they resumed practice, he exchanged a meaningful look with Wonwoo. Their plan was working, perhaps a little too well.
As the days turned into weeks, Mingyu's mood grew increasingly sour. He snapped at staff members over minor mistakes, isolated himself during breaks, and threw himself into his music with an almost manic intensity. His songwriting, always emotionally charged, took on a darker, more melancholic tone.
One evening, after a particularly tense practice session, Wonwoo found Mingyu alone in the studio, furiously scribbling in his notebook.
"New song?" Wonwoo asked, settling into a chair nearby.
Mingyu nodded without looking up. "Yeah. It's⊠it's about letting go of something you never really had."
Wonwoo's eyebrows shot up at that. "Sounds heavy. Want to talk about it?"
For a moment, it looked like Mingyu might open up. But then he shook his head, slamming the notebook shut. "It's nothing. Just⊠exploring some new themes."
As Mingyu stood to leave, Wonwoo called out, "You know, if something's bothering you, you can talk to us. We're not just your bandmates, we're your friends."
Mingyu paused at the door, his back to Wonwoo. "I know," he said softly. "But some things⊠some things you have to figure out on your own."
With that, he was gone, leaving Wonwoo to wonder if perhaps their plan was causing more harm than good.
The situation finally came to a head at a company party celebrating HHT's latest album going platinum. The event was in full swing, the cream of the K-pop industry mingling in a high-end Seoul nightclub.
Mingyu arrived late, his hair disheveled and dark circles under his eyes. He'd spent hours agonizing over whether to attend, knowing Y/N would be there. In the end, his pride (and a strongly worded text from their manager) had won out.
He froze in the doorway as he spotted Y/N and Seungcheol on the dance floor. Y/N was wearing a stunning red dress that hugged her curves, her hair swept up to reveal the graceful line of her neck. Seungcheol, looking handsome in a well-fitted suit, had his hand on her waist as they moved in perfect sync to the music.
Something snapped inside Mingyu. He stormed over to the bar, downing a shot of soju before grabbing another. As he watched Y/N throw her head back in laughter at something Seungcheol said, a series of memories flashed through Mingyu's mind:
Y/N's shy smile the first time they met at a company event. The electricity he felt the first time they kissed, hidden away in a dark corner of a after-party. Late nights spent talking about their dreams and fears, sharing parts of themselves they'd never shown anyone else. The way Y/N's eyes lit up when she listened to his new songs, always the first to offer genuine feedback and encouragement.
And then, more recent memories: The hurt in Y/N's eyes when he'd laughed off her suggestion of something more serious. The growing distance between them, a chasm he hadn't known how to bridge. The ache he felt every time he saw her now, an ache he'd tried to ignore, to rationalize away as mere physical attraction.
But seeing her now, radiant and happy in another man's arms, Mingyu could no longer deny the truth. He was in love with Y/N. Truly, madly, deeply, irrevocably in love. And he might have just lost her to his best friend.
The realization hit him like a physical blow. The glass in Mingyu's hand shattered, startling nearby partygoers. Blood dripped from his palm, but he barely noticed. All he could see was Y/N, beautiful and radiant, looking at Seungcheol with an affection that used to be reserved for him.
As staff rushed to tend to his injured hand, Mingyu's eyes met Y/N's across the room. The concern in her gaze was almost more than he could bear. In that moment, Mingyu knew he had to fight for her, to tell her how he really felt, before it was too late.
But first, he had some serious groveling to do. And maybe, just maybe, a chance to turn his pain into the most heartfelt song he'd ever written.
As he allowed himself to be led away for medical attention, Mingyu's mind was already racing with lyrics, a melody forming that he hoped would convey everything he'd been too afraid to say. He'd messed up, pushed away the best thing in his life out of fear and stubbornness. But if there was even a chance that Y/N still cared for him, he'd move heaven and earth to win her back.
Little did Mingyu know, across the room, Y/N was fighting every instinct to run to him, her heart breaking at the pain evident in his eyes. As Seungcheol squeezed her hand reassuringly, Y/N wondered if their plan had worked a little too well. -
Y/N went home to her apartment. She sat curled up on her couch, a glass of wine in hand, trying to process the events of the evening. The company party had not gone as planned â the image of Mingyu's pain-filled eyes as he clutched his bleeding hand was seared into her memory.
Y/N's phone buzzed for the umpteenth time. Another message from Seungcheol:
"Are you sure you're okay? I can come over if you need to talk."
She sighed, typing out a quick reply:
"I'm fine. Just need some time to think. Talk tomorrow?"
As she hit send, a loud, insistent knocking startled her. Y/N glanced at the clock â 1:37 AM. Who could it be at this hour?
The knocking continued, more urgently now. "Y/N! Y/N, I know you're in there! Please⊠please open up."
Y/N's heart skipped a beat. She'd recognize that voice anywhere, even slurred as it was now. Mingyu.
Hesitantly, she made her way to the door. Taking a deep breath, she opened it to find Mingyu leaning heavily against the doorframe, his usually impeccable appearance in disarray. His shirt was partially unbuttoned, hair a mess, and the unmistakable smell of soju wafted from him.
"Mingyu?" Y/N said, shock evident in her voice. "What are you doing here?"
Mingyu's eyes, glassy from alcohol, focused on her face. A lopsided smile spread across his features. "Y/N⊠beautiful Y/N. I had to see you. Had to tell youâŠ"
He stumbled forward, nearly falling. Y/N instinctively reached out to steady him, the familiar warmth of his body sending a jolt through her.
"Woah, easy there," she said, guiding him inside and closing the door. "Mingyu, you're drunk. You shouldn't be here."
Mingyu allowed himself to be led to the couch, collapsing onto it with a heavy sigh. "I know, I know. 'm not supposed to be here. But I couldn't⊠couldn't stop thinking about you. About us."
Y/N perched on the edge of the coffee table, facing him. Despite her better judgment, concern overtook her resolve to keep her distance. "Mingyu, what's going on? Are you okay? Your handâ"
Mingyu waved dismissively, wincing slightly at the movement. His palm was wrapped in a white bandage, a few spots of red seeping through. "It's nothing. Doesn't hurt. Not likeâŠ" he trailed off, his eyes growing sad.
"Not like what?" Y/N prompted gently.
"Not like seeing you with him," Mingyu finished, his voice barely above a whisper.
Y/N felt her heart clench. This was exactly the reaction their fake dating scheme was meant to provoke, but seeing Mingyu in actual pain made her question the wisdom of their plan.
"Mingyu, Iâ"
"No, let me⊠let me say this," Mingyu interrupted, sitting up straighter and fixing Y/N with an intense gaze. "I messed up, Y/N. I messed up so bad. I thought⊠I thought I could handle seeing you with someone else. Thought it didn't matter. But it does. It matters so much."
He reached out, taking Y/N's hands in his. She knew she should pull away, but found herself frozen, captivated by the raw emotion in Mingyu's eyes.
"I miss you," Mingyu continued, his thumbs tracing circles on her palms. "I miss your laugh, your smile. The way you scrunch up your nose when you're concentrating. I miss the way you make me feel â like I'm more than just a idol, more than just a pretty face or a good voice. With you, I'm just⊠me."
Y/N felt tears pricking at her eyes. This was everything she had wanted to hear for so long, but the circumstances were all wrong. "Mingyu, you're drunk. You don't know what you're saying."
Mingyu shook his head vehemently, then immediately looked like he regretted the motion. "No, no. I'm drunk, yes. But I know⊠I know what I feel. What I've always felt, even if I was too scared to admit it."
He slid off the couch, landing on his knees in front of Y/N. In any other situation, it might have been comical, but the desperation in his eyes killed any urge to laugh.
"Please, Y/N," Mingyu pleaded, still clutching her hands. "Please give me another chance. Break up with Seungcheol. He's⊠he's my friend, but he's not right for you. Not like I am. We're⊠we're meant to be together. I see that now."
Y/N felt panic rising in her chest. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. Mingyu wasn't supposed to show up at her door, drunk and emotional, laying his heart bare. She wasn't prepared for this.
"Mingyu, listen to me," she said, trying to keep her voice steady. "You're not thinking clearly. We can't⊠I can'tâŠ"
But Mingyu wasn't listening. His eyes had taken on a glassy, unfocused look. "I'll do better this time, I promise. I'll⊠I'll write you songs. Take you on real dates. Show the whole world how much you mean to me. Just please⊠please don't leave me."
His impassioned speech was interrupted by a wide yawn. The adrenaline and alcohol seemed to be wearing off, leaving exhaustion in their wake.
"I love you, Y/N," Mingyu mumbled, his head drooping. "I love you so much. Please⊠please justâŠ"
And with that, Mingyu slumped forward, his head coming to rest in Y/N's lap. Within seconds, soft snores filled the air.
Y/N sat frozen, her mind reeling. Mingyu's words echoed in her head, everything she had longed to hear for months. But was it real? Or just the ramblings of a drunk, jealous man?
Gently, she extricated herself from under Mingyu, laying him out on the couch and covering him with a throw blanket. She allowed herself a moment to study his face, peaceful in sleep, before retreating to her bedroom.
As she lay in bed, sleep eluding her, Y/N's thoughts were a jumbled mess. The fake dating plan had worked â perhaps too well. Mingyu had confessed his feelings, but at what cost? And what would happen in the morning, when he woke up in her apartment with a killer hangover and the memory of his whiskey-soaked confessions?
One thing was clear: the game they'd been playing had just gotten a lot more complicated. And Y/N had a sinking feeling that someone's heart was bound to get broken in the process â quite possibly her own.

Who would be the first to confess? Or the first to realize their feelings?
Iâm of two minds on this. In my experience, the more common concept is âShadow falls first, Amy falls harder.â This Twitter thread sums up the trope very well:
[Image ID: a screenshot of a tweet by user absolutesilly on April 17th, 2023 that reads, âitâs important to me that the âA fell first, B fell harderâ trope ISNâT about B loving A more. itâs about A spending a long time just getting used to having this (seemingly) hopeless pining going on in the background 24/7, while B is just. hit by a truck with it all of a sudden.
fell first: been suppressing their emotions for so long that itâs like white noise to them. always there but mostly manageable. a bruise that only hurts when you press on it
fell harder: if We Donât Get Married Tomorrow Iâm Gonna Start Biting Peopleâ /.End ID]
And I donât think I even have to clarify which oneâs which. Shadowâs love is quiet and intense. Heâs loyal and devoted. His affection is usually of the slow-burn variety. He hasnât had any canonical crushes so far, but you can see it in his familial/platonic love for those he cares about. Itâs natural to assume romance would be the same way.
And falling hard and fast is what Amy does. Need I mention Sonic? And her desire for marriage?
âShadow has a crush on Amy for months/years until he suddenly sweeps her off her feetâ is common for a reason. Iâve written plenty of it myself, including multiple WIPs. It was how I saw these two for a very long time, and thereâs no denying that itâs compelling and in-character. If I were writing a shadamy-esque relationship in a movie, Iâd write them that way.
HOWEVER...
I donât think game canon is following that trajectory.
Under the cut: lots of ranting and images/hints, both old and new. Youâll recognize a lot of this if youâve read my meta analysis posts, particularly why I ship them, how theyâd resolve their arguments, and my feelings on TMOSTH. Thereâs a tl;dr and relevant headcanon at the end.
In my opinion, âAmy falls for Shadow laterâ doesnât quite jive with canon because I think thereâs ample evidence to suggest she already has a crush on him. Itâs not as strong or obvious as the one she has on Sonic yet, but itâs there, just a little. To make a long story short:
She doesnât look at someone like this...
[Shadow the Hedgehog 2005]
unless she has a crush on them:
[Sonic CD]
She doesnât go out of her way to seek someone out this fervently...
[Sonic Battle]
...unless she has a crush on them:
[Sonic X]
She doesnât insist on bringing someone along like this...
[The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog]
unless she has a crush on them:
Wallpaper posted on Sonic Channel 2/22/21. Art by Yuji Uekawa
One fun aspect of all of this is that the social media team seems to agree with me and keeps noticeably leaning into it. The Twitter Takeovers obviously arenât canon and Iâm not putting those in the âevidenceâ pile, but itâs cute how they keep having Amy act flustered about her feelings regarding him, and itâs definitely not something Iâm imagining this time. Itâs most obvious at 18:14 here:
youtube
The gushing, the stuttering...itâs obvious what theyâre implying. Cindy Robinsonâs very convincing at sounding smitten with him, which isnât surprising considering her feelings on shadamy:
The question before that one in the Takeover arguably counts, too, and the social media team was primarily in charge of The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, after all. This is consistent for them. There are plenty of other bits and pieces from them and the not-so-subtle marketing team these days, but Iâd be ranting like a conspiracist and hunting down links all day if I got started on those.
^ Me at 2am.
I bring this up not just because itâs fun, but also to prove Iâm not the only one who sees it. Itâs definitely there, and it always makes me wonder what wouldâve happened if sheâd met Shadow first instead of Sonic. Would her little crush on Shadow have become the primary one if heâd entered her life first? Would we see this kind of thing all the time if Shadow were the protagonist?
[IDW issue 59]
Yes
Weâll never know, I guess! đ
Regardless, she met Sonic first, so her attention is...divided. Sheâs usually in-tune with her emotions, so even though her outlook on love is tinted somewhat by hero worship, I do think sheâd figure out she had feelings for Shadow if her crush on Sonic were sidelined. As she got to know him better, sheâd find even more things to love about him, and before long, sheâd be hooked.
For Shadowâs part, itâs pretty clear to anyone whoâs paying attention that he has a soft spot for her of some kind. In my experience, even non-shadamy fans will usually agree with this if asked. And why wouldnât they?
1. He let her hug him and see him cry in SA2, then saved the world because she asked him to. Thereâs a reason fans hate it whenever Amyâs elevator speech at the end of SA2 is put in someone elseâs mouth. Itâs just not believable that heâd save the world for anyone else--not Sonic, not Chris Thorndyke--because the gentleness isnât there for anyone but her. That had to be built and proven.
2. She inspired yet another heel-turn of his in the conspicuously-named âMiracle of Loveâ route in ShTH where âbad boyâ Shadow ditches Black Doom to help her, resulting in a hero classification.
I think we undersell how big of a deal this is. For those who arenât too familiar with Shadow the Hedgehog (2005), that story route starts out with Shadow ignoring Sonic and...*checks notes*...defeating fifty G.U.N. soldiers? The mission says âdefeat,â not âkill.â But Black Doom says âfinish off those soldiers,â âdestroy them all,â âexterminate,â and âannihilate.â In a game where youâre explicitly encouraged to use firearms. On human soldiers. So this Shadow quite possibly has a significant body count by the end of the level, and then he immediately snubs Rouge to destroy Earthâs digital highway system. Thereâs a reason he canât get a hero ending past that point if he doesnât help Amy. Just like in SA2, sheâs the only one left who can turn him into a hero. She speedruns his redemption with one jaunt through a haunted castle. This is the sequence:
[Source]
The way he trails off at, âI didnât have any reason to help her, but since I was looking for the doctor anyway, I figured...â stands out, like heâd forgotten how good of a person he can be.
This brief Twitter thread summarizes the events in a much funnier way than I can:
3. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is the most recent and blatant example. Goes to a party. Dresses up in a silly outfit. Embarrasses himself to get her a thoughtful gift. Agrees to go to a concert for a band he canât stand just to make her happy. I donât think I even need to explain this one, but if you want to see me do so anyway, hereâs that link again.
4. In Team Sonic Racing, heâs sweet to her when theyâre on the same team...
...and heâs borderline flirtatious when theyâre on opposing teams. ;)
His lines are delivered in a snarky, teasing way, especially when he calls her cute, and sheâs matching that competitive banter.
[Source: this Twitter thread by MeliCross22:
Absolutely worth a read, and it includes links to the lines so you can actually hear them.]
The question is whether his soft spot is romantic in nature, and as biased as I am...I donât buy it. In the first two, sheâs just reminding him of who he is by calling to mind his memories of Maria, and âMiracle of Loveâ isnât meant in a romantic way. Likewise, in TMOSTH, itâs extremely sweet of him and he wouldnât do that for anyone else, but itâs still not inherently romantic. TSR is less cut-and-dried. It could be flirtation, but it could also just be the race stoking their competitive spirits. Itâs also just a side game, and while itâs still canon, I donât know if Sega would put that kind of dynamic between them in the main series. It could be a case of the TSR writers being secret shadamy fans who are tossing us crumbs, but it could also just be them mixing it up so there isnât yet another instance of Amy saying variations of âSorry, but Iâm in it to win it!â every time she hits someone with an item. Trust me, it gets old.
Canonically, I donât see Shadow as being romantically interested in anyone to a significant extent at the moment, Amy included. Heâs been too focused on his past, his identity crisis, the alien invasion, etc. I donât think thereâll really be room for romance in his life until he fully makes peace with his trauma. This moment at the end of his game...
...just doesnât do that. Shadow Dark Beginnings has made it abundantly clear that he hasnât moved on.
And this is where Amy comes in, because I think sheâs the ideal person for the job.
Sega seems to pivot back and forth between âShadow has no friendsâ and âShadow has two friends, but he even keeps them at a distance sometimes.â Without people in his life who are willing to reach out, he withdraws, and itâs really not good for him. A lot of fans feel heâs hesitant to bond with others because no one else is immortal and he knows how painful loss is. Itâs not explicitly stated, but itâs consistent with his behavior. Isolating himself is easy. Itâs safe. Itâs something he can control.
But itâs not sustainable.
He needs love. He needs it so much. Itâs his very purpose, in the most literal sense. Maria said it best in episode 2 of Dark Beginnings:
âYou have a big heart! It may be difficult for you to express it, but I know that deep down you really do care. About me. About everyone! What you do is what defines you. I know youâre having a hard time finding answers, but Iâm certain you will one day. Then, youâll find even more people you can trust.â
^ This is what I mean when I say Maria would love Amy. Amyâs the only other character who feels love as deeply as Shadow does, the only one who could fully understand, and she just so happens to be a clingy girl whoâll reach out to anyone, even people who think they want to be left alone. Itâs baffling that Sega basically hasnât let them interact for two decades because she absolutely would insist on befriending him.
Shadow hides, but Amy chases. She loves a challenge and doesnât shy away if she feels she belongs with someone, even if that person runs. If she decided Sonic wasnât right for her, I think itâs only natural that sheâd pursue Shadow given her obvious fondness for him. The only difference is that when someone chases Shadow, he doesnât run. He clings. He clung to Maria, he clung to Team Dark, and heâd cling to her, too, and I donât think heâd stand a chance against her charm from there. Heâs a romantic in his own way, and that soft spot of his would turn rose-tinted in a heartbeat. If thereâs anyone who could convince him that love is worth it, itâd be her; I highly doubt sheâd regret her past love of Sonic, and if he thought about it, I donât think heâd regret his attachment to Maria, either. Amy told him the people of Earth deserved a chance to be happy. Now he lives on Earth with her. Couldnât she convince him that he deserves that chance, too?
And if he hesitated and tried to ignore his feelings for Amy, I could see Rouge stepping in to kick him in the right direction. It wouldnât be the first time she talked some sense into him for the sake of his own happiness:
[IDW issue 36]
tl;dr: Amy already likes Shadow. If she spent more time with him, those feelings would grow, and it wouldnât be long before sheâd be pursuing him in earnest. With her talent for breaking down barriers and his existing soft spot for her, it wouldnât be a very long chase.
This headcanon is the one that I think portrays it best. I donât think Iâll ever fully stop writing Shadow Falls First, Amy Falls Harder because itâs so damn compelling, but I love this interpretation, too, and it lines up too well with canon to ignore.

The walls are blank. Every place where art once hung, now patched with tack and smoothed over. Boxes lining the small living room and parts of the kitchenâŠreliving some of the sacred memories built here when your phone chimes, interrupting the sweet thoughts. You to pull it out of your pocket to check the notification.
Nay: Iâm outside baby (9:45am)
Not even bothering to reply, you just pull the door open to see a U-haul truck backed into the parking spot closest to your soon to be old front door and Nayeon no where in sight.
Looking around in confusion, you hear the clattering of the big metal rolling door on the back of the truck.
Eyes meeting the sound as it rattles, ascending upwards and stopping in place. A petite Nayeon lifting it and climbing into the back to push it all the way to the top, revealing the empty truck she rented just for the things you decided to bring along with you.
She leaves you completely breathless, per usualâŠbut today, being the day you were moving in together, your heart throbbed with love and affection for your beautiful girlfriend.
White sneakers with long white socks up to her knees, black shorts that were intentionally too short, a top that had hints of purple and a trucker hat to finish the look off. Appearing as if she just got out of a photoshoot or filming a video or something more extravagant than helping you move.
Your jaw hit the floor as she half jogged up to you, and jumping into your arms and wrapping her legs around you, expecting you to hold her up while her forearms found their place on your shoulders and her hands were interwoven with themselves.
Being sure to catch her, providing some support from under her, she lean back and grabbed your cheeks, kissing them one, two, three times before completely beaming at you from the few inches she had of height on you in this position.
âHi, baby!,the â another kiss, this one on the lips, to taper off her sentence while her hands found their way around your neck once more.
âHi, my love, you look amazing.â absorbing her like flowers take in the sun, feeling her skin on yours was magic.
âOnly for you.â watching as her eyes convert to a half lidded seduction, her tone emanated a specific type of want that could only be translated privately, very very privately.
Nayeon reverts the seductive face, unwrapping her legs and stand on her own, keeping her hands connected around your neck and pulling you into an even bigger hug, fingers tapping on your shoulder blades to the song she was humming, before shimmying in your arms.
Both of you start giggling before she finally lets go of you, very obviously excited about this adventure you were going on together. Her hand finds yours, lightly gripping it and swinging it around while she talks.
âOkay, so the movers should be here any minute - we are loading what youâre keeping into this truckâ pointing to the one that she pulled up in.
âAnd anything we are going to donate will go in the movers truck, they will drop it off and then we will goâŠhome, the movers will meet us there and we will get everything organize. Sound like a plan?â the loving look she gives you when she says home made your knees weak, jelly filled joints fighting to hold the weight of the love you held for her every thing she did, but especially when she said something sweet or looked at you a certain way.
âSounds good, babe.â uttered over the squeaking of the brakes from the truck of movers that just pulled up and her squealing at the sight of them.
The 3 men come over, asking you for detailed instructions on what to keep and what to put in the âdonationâ truck. Most of the things you were keeping was in boxes but you were keeping your king sized bed, Nayeon was too in love with it to even think about getting a new one.
âBut itâs already broken in on my side, I donât want to do that again. Donât you like sleeping on a cloud? I canât believe youâre considering a new oneâŠâ argued a few weeks ago when you half way discussed what furniture you wanted to keep.
Both of you decided the living room would be the focus first, youâd want a new couch if anything. Wanting to pick out the decorations together for each room would be a fun bonding experience and that was something you were very much looking forward to.
âAlright, we will get started.â One of the men said, walking into the living room and starting with the couch you werenât going to keep, taking it to the donation truck while you and Nayeon focused on the boxes.
Slowly removing everything from the apartment until it was completely empty, you couldnât help but have a little moment of sadness, not that you were upset about this new chapter in your life with Nayeon, but more so the memories of this apartment and what it meant to you.
Nayeon sees you staring at the bare walls and taking the last walk through of the place to make sure everything was taken care of. Waiting for you to have your moment, she doesnât rush you, simply leaning on the door frame with her arms crossed, silently watching the emotions change across your face.
Itâs an emotional transition, even if itâs a good one. This place was where you built your relationship, the foundation of the steady and healthy bond you and her shared. Moving in together was a massive step that you were more than ready to take, but you couldnât help allow the nostalgia consume you for a moment as a few tears roll down your cheek.
Feeling her eyes on your back, the edges of your mouth turn up knowing the exact look sheâs giving you before you even see it.
âI can feel you watching meâ giggling through the droplets that threatened to drip down your chin, you try to wipe them before she can see.
âDonât try to hide it, I know youâre crying!â she walks up behind you, giving you a hug from behind and resting her head on your shoulder blades.
Sniffling while trying to gain your composure again, Nayeon just holds you until your breath smooths out more. Rocking you from side to side in attempts to comfort you.
âDonât worry, babyâ spinning you around carefully so you can face her; she likes to make eye contact when she speaks.
âThis is going to be great! And do you want to know the best part?â leaning into you, putting her weight on you to make you hold her back.
âWhatâs the best part, my love?â
âWe get to do it together!â Nayeon practically tackles you to the ground, smooching you all over the face and tickling you in the process.
Rolling around and trying to avoid her hands as you both laugh, you love how playful your relationship with her is. She always knew how to make you smile, in every single way you could imagine.
Once she put a halt to the tickle fest she brought on, she was straddling you on the floor, hands resting on your stomach and your hands were on her thighs. You sit up, placing your hands on her ass and scoot her into you.
Faces so close you can feel her breath on your lips, you can tell sheâs riled up from the way youâre looking at her and your hand placement, it was easier to get her worked up - easier than she would like to admit.
Reaching your hands up from your girlfriendâs thighs and trailing them up her chest, watching as her breath hitches when you pass her collarbones.
Gliding your digits up her neck and to her cheeks, you feel her flush - a noticeable wave of heat rushing through her.
Sight going from her lips, up to her eyes, and then back down to her lips again, you bring her mere centimeters from your mouth.
Her breathing speeds up.
Feeling her heart race through your fingertips, the way her eyes were locked in on you, and the way she held you close without an inch of wiggle roomâŠyou knew exactly what she was thinking aboutâŠand what she wanted.
âBabyâ breathed to her, teasing her with your whispers and the distance between your lips.
Nayeonâs is completely enthralled, looking like she wants to beg for you to touch her. Eyes returning to their half lidded state from earlier, she starts rocking her hips on your lap, you stop her immediately.
âNot yet, baby. We still have work to doâŠand I want pizza for dinner.â kissing her forehead before standing with her still attached to you.
âYouâre like a koala, you know that?â chuckling at her for not letting go of you, bringing her outside with you and locking the door.
She whines really loudly, âFuck you, ughâ
âWhyyyyyyy? What did I do?!â gasped back in fake shock, you knew exactly why she was saying it. She rests her head on your shoulder.
âBecause, you did that on purpose!â Pouting at the state sheâs in.
âDid what on purpose, honey?â kissing her cheeks while walking her to your car that she was planning on drive to the new place.
Nayeon gets down off you and sticks her hands out for your keys with a fake attitude, you dangle them in front of her. She attempts to snatch them, but youâre too quick and she misses.
âDid what on purpose?â poking her chest lightly just to get a little rise out of her.
She leans into your ear closely, playing with the collar of your shirt before she speaks soft sultry words right into you.
âFor making me wet and making me wait to feel you.â
Jaw dropping for a second time tonight, she kisses your check tenderly. Winking at you while she bites her lip. She takes the keys out of your hand and replaces them with the U-Haul keys.
âLast one home buys dinner!â rapidly getting into the car and backing out of the driveway.
Still standing in the same spot, unable to stop yourself from smiling at how goofy she is. Shaking your head while giggling, itâs impossible not to fall deeper in love with her by the day.
Turning around one last time, admiring what was home in the afternoon light before getting into the truck and going to what was your next chapter of life.
â
The drive wasnât too long, maybe 30 minutes at most. Driving in silence, youâre excited to get settled in your new place. Living in the memory of when you and Nayeon toured the apartment youâd be moving into.
Hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings, massive windows that were floor to ceiling, and the lighting fixture in the dinning area that Nayeon fell in love with.
Remembering the way she exclaimed âbaby, look at this!â At every turn, around every corner, you both knew this was the place you were going to start the adventure of living together.
The island in the kitchen was what you were particularly excited about, having more room to cook for her when you had a moment. She didnât know that was the intention, but being able to surprise her with it some night would be great.
Turning the corner to the complex, you already see your car in the assigned spot. Nayeon is leaning on the drivers side door, scrolling through her phone when you back the truck in next to her.
âHa! Dinner is on you tonight!â Happily skipping over to the drivers side door as you hop out of the truck.
âYeah, yeah!â waving your hand and rolling your eyes before smirking at her.
âPepperoni and extra cheese, please!â
âAlright, alright. Letâs go check out the place!â putting your hand out in front of her with puckered lips, waiting for your keys and a kiss, sheâs happy to give both.
â
As you reach the elevator, you notice the weight of your keys is different. Looking down while stepping into the metal box what was going to get you to the floor you apartment was on - you notice a light blue key with an N and a heart on it.
Toying with the key in your hand, you look up at her to see sheâs distracted and doesnât know that youâve noticed the cute little surprise sheâs placed on your key ring while she was waiting for you to arrive.
âBabyâ called to her softly from a foot away.
Nayeon looks over at you, eyes looking directly into yours and then down at the keys in your hands, showing her the one she placed on your keyring.
She smiles, pulling her keys off her belt loop, flashing you a key with your initial and a heart next to it, in your favorite color.
âI thought it would be a nice cute little surprise for our move in day.â intertwining her pinky with yours.
âThank you, itâs so cute and thoughtful.â
The elevator dings, sliding the doors open and allowing you and your girlfriend to step into the hallway.
Taking the corridor to the right, Nayeon basically pulling you to the door of your new home. The door was black with shiny brass numbers reflecting back to you.
She slips her key into the door, the heavy lock turns and clicks into place. Nayeon looks over at you and smiles before pushing the door open and squealing in excitement, jumping in place. Gosh, sheâs so cute.
Grabbing her hand before she can run inside, you pull her close to you, pressing your body against hers. Sheâs going to take this as you teasing her, but really you just had something you wanted to do.
âWait a sec, I think we should be a little traditional about this.â
âTraditional?â Scoffed at you while her hands are wrapped around your waist.
âYeah, traditionalâŠâ placing your hand behind her legs and scooping her up into your arms, bridal style, before she can protest.
Nayeon squeals at being lifted up but her arms instinctively wrap around your neck. When she realizes what youâre doing she starts giggling at the sweetness of the moment.
Unable to take her eyes off you as you take your step over the threshold into your new home. One of her rather large hands descends to your chest, placing it flat under your collar bone.
âHome.â said lightly under your breath but loud enough for her to hear you, panning the emptiness of the apartment you were about to fill with not only your physical things, but the love you had for each other.
Removing her hand off your chest, she uses her fingers to turn your head towards her and kisses you softly.
âHome.â Pointing one of her fingers into your chest, bring her lips back to yours.
Resting your foreheads together, you lower her legs to signal her to stand on her own. She whines in protest, leaning against you as she fights against regaining her balance.
âAre you ready?â Grabbing her hand, looking her in the eyes and smiling.
âNever been more ready, actually.â Kissing the top of your hand, grabbing her phone and checking her messages to see the other team of movers was outside and ready to move the furniture into your new space.
âTheyâre here!â Gleefully jumping in place again before heading for the door.
âLetâs go!â Following closely behind her and slapping her ass playfully.
Nayeon lets out a soft moan. Whipping around to look at you to see if youâve heard, covering her mouth with her hand trying to hide her own shock and the flushing in her cheeks.
Eye widen as before you let out a thunderous laugh.
âDonât worry, baby. We can take care of that later.â Kissing her forehead and leading her down to the elevator by her hand, with her trying to cover the flushed cheeks she now wears in embarrassment.
â
âHmmâŠmaybe a little more to the left? This doesnât feel centered to me.â Nayeon is pensive, finger on her cheek as she asks the movers, yet again, to move the bed over so itâs perfectly centered in your new bedroom.
âBabe, it looks fine where it is!â Chiming in from the closet where you were hanging all of the clothes you had smartly packed on hangers so theyâd be easier to deal with.
Organizing the closet so the left side was hers and the right side was yours, you could hear her sigh from the other room.
Picturing her exact movements in your minds eye, you knew she was shifting her weight from one leg to another, biting her pointer finger with her other arm crossed over her chest.
âOkayâŠI hear youâŠbut what if we scooted it over just a little bit to the ri-â sneaking up behind her and silencing her with a soft bite to the neck causing her to stifle a whine.
âI think itâs perfect where it is, Nayeon.â kissing her cheek before you turn your attention to the movers.
âThank you so much for your help today!â shaking their hands as they leave the room and walk out the front door.
âBaby, I really donât know if I like the bed in this position or not.â Nayeonâs hands are on her hips again, trying to figure out if it would look better centered on the other wall.
âHoneyâŠwe can rearrange any time we want. No worries, letâs just get the rest of the house together, okay?â you throw the sheets at her for her to make the bed she was scowling at and head back to continue what youâve been doing in the closet.
Nayeon followed you into the closet, sheets in hand, with a pout that would make anyone drop what theyâre doing to please her.
âWhatâs wrong, my love?â Pausing the organizing of your clothes as you spoke to her.
âIâm hungry and the bed is crooked.â she sighs and give a playful little stomp, throwing the cutest tantrum youâve ever seen.
âIâll order the pizza now then, okay?â pulling your phone out to send through the order you already prepared for the two of you.
âBut what about the bed?â
âWe can fix it later, okay? Just put the sheets on it and we will worry about it after dinner.â
Nayeon rolls her eyes and heads out of the closet to complete the task at hand.
After about 5 minutes goes by, a frustrated grumble echoes through the room, followed by shouting and sighing.
âUgh! This bed is crooked! Itâs not freaking centered!â Nayeon huffs as she finishes putting the sheets on, trying to scoot the heavy bed and frame over an inch or two to make it âcenteredâ.
Sheâs so dramatic.
You adore this part of her.
âLet me see.â Finishing up the last of the closet and stepping out to see what she how âcrookedâ it was.
The bed was straight against the wallâŠthereâs no way it couldâve actually been crooked. Giving her a side eyed glare, you lightly push her shoulder.
âItâs perfectly straight, what do you mean?â Chuckling at her while you put your hands up in confusion.
âNo, itâs not! Look!â
Nayeon squats down in front of the bed, point and explaining how itâs not lined up with the floor boards and all you can do is admire how passionately sheâs making her case about something so silly.
Just smiling, you walk up to her as she continues on her rant about the bed.
âSo you see, thatâs why itâs not straight because this isâŠnotâŠâ tilting her head up, eyes lacing every part of you as you step up to her and place a finger under her chin.
âI think it looks good, donât you?â leading her to stand, her eyes still not leaving you.
Nayeon stutters through her mentions of now suddenly agreeing with you.
âO-oh, uhmâŠy-yes, I donât t-think we should move it at all.â
Sheâs so cute.
Hooking a finger into on of her belt loop, tugging it so she somewhat falls into you. Using that to your advantage, swiftly turning and falling yourself. Landing flat with your back on the bed with her strategically on top of you.
Her surprised face hovering over yours, she hoists her leg over your torso, straddling your hips instinctively and putting you right back where you were only a few hours ago at your old apartment.
âOops, wow! I canât believe you would trip like that. So clumsy of you! Even if I do love meeting you like thisâŠâ tucking a loose piece of hair behind her ear.
âAnd what if I meet you like thisâ leaning in and brushing her lips against yours, the warmth between her legs gives a flash of familiarity, and her sultry tone brings a rush of endorphins, melting your heart and ruining any sense of composure you had.
âI can feel your heart beatingâŠdo I still make you nervous?â whispered against your lips before connecting them completely.
Soft and slow turns into passionate and needy very quickly.
The steamy make out session escalated into you tugging Nayeonâs shirt off, trying to minimize the time your lips spent apart.
Nayeonâs tongue tracing your lips before she stood up and started undoing on your belt, the clattering of her impatience matching the buckle as it hit the floor.
Hastily unbuttoning your pants, tugging them down without hesitation. She needed you, rapid movements serve as proof of her hunger, the way she doesnât care how aggressively sheâs ripping the black denim off your thighs.
Haphazardly tossing each piece of clothing as she rips it off you, first your belt, then your pants, and your shirt following very closely behind, your hands helping discard the unwanted fabric.
âFinallyâŠI get to have you how Iâve been wanting you allll da-â
The doorbell cuts her sentence off.
âYouâre kiddingâŠâ Nayeonâs body tenses, sighing as she runs a finger down your stomach as she rolls her eyes in disdain at who ever just pushed the button that caused the chime that stopped her from taking you the way she had been imagining.
âThat would be dinner.â Giggling at her frustration, only adding to it.
Nayeon just rolls her eyes and stands up, grabbing her shirt and throwing it on while mumbling to herself and mindlessly flicking off the front door before opening it.
You opt to just slip on a pair of black sweat pants and walk around in your sports bra, leaving your bedroom and hearing her say thank you to the pizza delivery boy before latching the door shut and locking it.
Grabbing some paper plates from the kitchen, bringing them to the empty living room and sitting on the floor next to Nayeon, and turning the TV on to put on a random YouTube video while you guys eat.
Taking a few bites and then looking over at her, you see sheâs scrolling through her phone with an annoyed look on her face.
âWhatâs wrong, baby?â
âWhat do you think about this?â Flipping her phone around to show a coffee table with a glass top made of light wood and gold accents.
âOh thatâs cute!â Leaning into her and scrolling to see if it had any matching sets.
âSo I was thinkingâ she starts, âwhat if we did like a sage green with gold accents and with like light wood and a lot of plants for the living room.â taking a bite of her slice of pizza and doing a little happy dance now that sheâs finally eating.
âI love that idea but letâs do a little contrast.â Clicking on the black version of the gold laced table and showing her.
âWaitâŠyou might be on to something here.â Scrolling down and seeing the matching furniture that goes along with the table.
âI did save a couch I saw, let me find it.â quickly pulling up the lighter green couch she had in mind and showing it to you.
âOh, babe, thatâs perfect!â Leaning over and kissing her cheeks before taking another bite of your pizza.
âI think it would match so well with the gold accents andâŠâ she rattles on about
Spending the entirety of dinner talking about placement and furniture, you find yourselves tired from a long day of planning, organizing and moving things around.
Taking it upon yourself to pack up the left-overs from dinner in the kitchen, you canât help but wonder where your girlfriend has gone off too.
âNayeonieeeeeeeee!â called out when you hear her cackle from the master bedroom.
âIâm in here, baby!â echoed off the walls to the empty living room.
âYou better not moving that bed again!â Sliding the pizza box into the fridge, laughing to yourself about the joke you just made.
âIâm NOT! Ugh!â you walk into your new shared bedroom to see Nayeon on FaceTime with Momo, talking about the moving process and how smoothly it went with the company she recommended.
Catching her attention was fairly easy as you were still very shirtless and the sweatpants you wore to cover up were a little big on you, falling off almost so the waistband of your underwear was sticking out for her to see.
âMomo when you come over tomorrow, we will give you a tour! Besides we still have someâŠthings toâŠâ sheâs staring right at you, eye shifting from your exposed waistband up to your bare torso.
An idea pops into your head, an idea that would bring her to her knees and back to where you were an hour or two ago.
Making eye contact with her while she zones out, you tug on the string that is keeping your sweatpants anchored on your hips, letting them drop to the floor before you step out of them. Her jaw drops at how suddenly exposed you are with only your panties and your bra covering youâŠfor now.
Slipping your fingers under the hem of what was covering your chest, you slowly pull it off over your head, leaving you in just your underwear. Twirling the bra by itâs strap around your finger, you fling it at her, it lands on her legs.
Nayeonâs eyes bugged out of her head, like a cartoon character, as she sat up - readjusting her position out of what seemed to be a little bit of gay panic mixed with anticipation.
ââŠ.hey, uhmâŠlet me call you back.â Nayeon quickly hangs up the phone as Momoâs protest began through the speaker.
âWait! Nayeon we have to talk abou-â click.
You have her right where you want her.
She stands, hastily making her way over to you. Hands reaching out to make contact, sheâs pulling you in close, laying her hands on your hips and tracing small circles that travel to your lower back and to the waistband she was just staring at.
âYou have all my attention, honey.â kissing your cheeks, trailing feather-light kisses down your jaw line and onto the side of your neck before bringing her lips back to yours.
Within minutes of this sweet dangerous kiss beginning, youâd devolve into a melted version of your former self with only her name stuck in your throat and the flavor of her lips at the tip of your tongue as it familiarizes itself with hers again, noting every predicted movement and sway of her as she holds you in front of her.
Arms raising up and resting on her shoulders, your fingers weave with her hair, pulling her into your further and pressing your chest against her same purple shirt from earlier.
âTake this off.â parting from her for only a moment to give her the command to remove the article of clothing that was in your way before returning your mouth to hers.
Maintaining eye contact, she rips her shirt over her head, tossing it somewhere else and continuing on the entanglement you were creating with her, unsnapping her bra and letting it chase her shirt to else where.
Now shirtless with you, chests pressing up against each other, she takes charge. Leading you to the âcrookedâ bed and pushing you down onto the sheets, playfully.
âFinally,â she breathes, unbuttoning her shorts and letting them fall to the floor and kicking them out of the way.
âIâve been thinking about this since I saw you this morning. And when you carried me over the threshold?â clenching her entire body at the memory, a familiar shutter cascades through her body.
âI never wanted you more than in that momentâŠexcept for maybe right now.â
Watching as she relaxes again, her hands on either side of you, and sheâs making half lidded eye contact with you when she brings a hand down your stomach, ghosting it over your underwear and reminding your body of what it was feeling earlier.
Leaning down to kiss you again, sheâs intensifying her touch on you. Rubbing your clit through the now damp fabric of your underwear and letting you moan and whine into her mouth. The touch is fueling every fire youâve felt in the last 12 hours.
âFuckâŠNayeonâ whined into her mouth as she pulls your panties to the side, drenching her finger in your slick, coasting it up and down your slit while you match her movements with your hips.
She spends a moment kissing and toying with your chest, flicking your nipples with her tongue, lightly grazing her teeth over them. She slithers back up to your face and kisses you again.
âFinally touching you after a long day of wanting to feel you like thisâŠâ bringing her hand up to lick your essence off her long digits.
âTo taste you like thisâŠâ bringing her lips down to yours, kissing you deeply and letting your own taste linger on your tongue.
Usually being the one that maintains composure, you were finding it difficult to keep the pace steady, after all the âalmostâ moments earlier today, you were having thoughts of just flipping her over and doing all the work.
Intense bodily reactions that are out of your control fling you into desperation, body begging for more of her touch, and gripping her harder to make sure she knows what you want, though it was obvious, your body language gave you away.
The rocking of your hips, the repressed moans, the less than pure lust that burned you from the inside were shinning through every single motion you made.
Nayeon noticed.
Her teeth graze your ear before she descended down your body with small bites, intentional swipes of her tongue and soft sweet pecks in between.
It wasnât long before your ass was hanging off the edge of the bed and she was on her knees between your legs.
Without even looking at her, you can feel the smirk she has as she tugs on the elastic that was holding what was in her way up, and removes it - almost ripping it in the process.
âDamn, baby. You look so fucking good like this.â running her thumb up and over your clit a few times, teasing your entrance with every few passes.
Brain glitching under her touch, the cravings were too strong and you were too addicted to contain yourself any longer. Thrusting your hips down on her next tease of your entrance, her thumb slips inside you causing a guttural moan to leave your throat.
âSomeone is eager.â giggled at you before removing her thumb, licking your slick off of it.
Whining in protest, you are about to beg for her when you feel it. The warmth of her tongue, starting at the bottom of your entrance and snaking its way up your folds and over your clit before latching onto it.
âNayeon, ple- ooooh fuck!â hissed out in pleasure, hands flying up to the back of her head, wrapping her hair up in your hands and holding it into a makeshift ponytail as her tongue made work of you.
A delicate dance that she was more than good at, teasing and flicking at your sensitive bud before finally starting the pattern that she knew was what was going to keep you right where she needed you.
Sucking and smacking while she whirled her tongue in tightknit circles around your clit, completely focused on the way your back was arching, body twitching underneath her, and the sounds you were making for her.
Moaning her name, the breathy âoh fucksâ, and the unprovoked âplease please pleaseâ always made a mess of her underwear. She loved to hear you in this way, loved to have you in such a vulnerably delicious position to which she could bring you every ounce of pleasure you could ever want.
The build up ensues, the tightly woven tension in your core was stacking like tetris on the want that had been taunting you all day. Deep, primal yearning for your partner was all consuming and it was apparent that the feeling was mutual.
Thatâs when you feel it, her long pointer finger teasing your entrance, waiting for you to do exactly what Nayeon knew you would. Thrusting your hips down onto her finger and grinding onto it, doing the work for her while she quickened the pace of her circular movements on your clit.
The vibration of her chuckling with her mouth still attached to you was excruciating. Giggling at your neediness only made the desperation worse, vibrating and stimulating the very sensitive bud causing the pot to boil over, burning the coil that threatened to snap at any moment.
âBabyâŠoh fuck, Iâm gonna fucking cumâ pulling her head closer to you and grinding harder down on her finger.
Nayeon smiles, curling her finger up one, two, three times and then rips herself away from you.
Completely dismantling everything she just built, ruining the orgasm and sending you into a spiral of desperation and anger.
âFuck, WHY would you do THAT?!â panting out furiously as you sit up on your elbows so you can glare at the cheeky smile sheâs got plastered on her face.
Rolling your eyes and slamming yourself back down on the mattress, you hear the sound of leather sliding across the wooden nightstand. Nayeon stands, stepping into the harness of the all too familiar strap-on that was very present on nights like this.
The actual strap was different than your usual one, noting that the rings were more angular, the color of the leather was slightly darker, and you couldnât help but notice the new attachment that was fixed to the strap that would go between Nayeonâs legs.
Slipping it inside herself with ease, a whimper leaving her lips while she buckled herself in and prepared for what was to come.
Feeling yourself drip in anticipation, the pooling of slick underneath you was rapidly growing out of control as Nayeon tugged your hips closer to the edge of the bed.
You could feel the tip of the familiar toy pressing against your folds as she leaned down and softly bit your chest. Shivers of anticipation radiated through your bones as you patiently waited for her to make the initial thrust that would turn into you becoming undone underneath her.
Breathing picking up for both of you, the tension so thick between you that every touch from her felt like jolts of static electricity that had the power of lightening.
âBabyâŠâ unable to wait anymore, you had thought about her this way all day, on top of you with that half lidded smirk.
âPlease.â Cupping her face, bringing her closer to you while lifting your legs up and wrapping them around her hips.
Taking the hint, she eases her hips forward, sinking her strap into you painstakingly slow, inch by inch until she was completely bottomed out inside you.
Moaning into her mouth as you continue to passionately make out, she takes it slow with you. Sensually rocking her hips gently and letting her hands wander your body while your tongues explored each others mouths.
Hardly any words shared at all, the moment too intense, and all too intimate to even think of exchanging witty banter. Hushed moans and whines filling the minimal space between the you and her, mixed in with the pure pleasure and the eager pants from Nayeon.
Bliss drapes your body with each thrust Nayeon made, you gave a small gasp at each stroke she laid into you. Paired with her own sounds of pleasure, you were consumed by her.
âIâm gonna cumâŠfuckâ whispered to her with intense eye contact that has her breath hitching. Her thrusts speed up, a steady crescendo building up higher and higher in both of you until finally hit the point of pure ecstasy.
Your vision blurs as your body trembles, moans escaping your throat in rapid succession. Drenched in ecstasy, you twitch and buck your hips, riding out the waves of your intense orgasm.
Nayeon glistens with a thin sheen of sweat as she maintains her rhythm. Despite your body clenching around the strap, making it challenging for her to continue, she perseveres undeterred, chasing her own pleasure while overstimulating you.
A stream of passionate words accompanies the matching sounds as you both murmur intensely to each other. Nayeon grasps your hands, pinning them above your head, her hips snapping faster and faster.
Watching her closely through your post orgasm haze, you observe her brows furrowingâa sign she's nearing her peak.
As her rhythm falters, you seize the moment. Using your legs, you swiftly roll her over, positioning yourself on top of her.
Grinding down on the strap, now building another orgasm as it rubs against all the right spots, you can feel her body tensing under you.
âCum for me, baby. I know how much you wanting this all day.â Sultry tone sensually whispered to her as you begin to slam yourself down on her, letting the attachment do the work.
Her eyes roll back, body tensed, back arched as she releases- a mess created on the sheets. Her whimpers loud, hands grasping at you, trying to tug you closer to her and successfully doing so.
Her nails dig into your hips as she guides you up and down on her, mouths connecting, your hand crawling up to weave into her hair.
âOh fuckâŠfeels so fucking goodâ breathed against her lips, her hands snake under your thighs, stopping you from riding her.
Thrusting up into you, holding you up while you drape your body over hers, allowing yourself to untether and get lost in the moment.
âGive me one more, honey. I know you want to.â Followed by a few bites to your neck.
The want in her words were enough to send you over the edge once more. She wraps her arms around you, holding you into place while continuing to trust up into you, creating a plethora of sounds that would put any adult film to shame.
Slowly coming down, you bury your face in her neck and smile into her.
âUgh that was so worth the wait.â huffed into her skin as she draws little pictures with her nails on your back, writing words like âI love youâ and your name and her name with hearts.
âAre you writing poetry on my back?â quizzically asked with a hint of sleepiness as you sit up on her.
âI donât need to write poetry on what already is poetry, my love.â sitting up to deeply kiss you and hug you, all while the strap is still inside you.
Standing up to go and grab another set of sheets, Nayeon takes a moment to clean the strap in the bathroom, dry it off, and put it back in the drawer.
Returning to the bed, you pull the sheets off, walking through your house to place them in the washer and flick it on before you return to the room.
Nayeon and you make the bed together, changing the pillow cases so they match the new sheets you just placed on them.
âDo you want to take a quick shower with me?â after finally placing the comforter on the bed.
Nayeon walks over to you, putting her arms around your waist and kissing you again.
âAbsolutelyâ leading you to the bathroom so you can wash up together.
Turning to her after she turns the shower on, you smirk at her.
âWhy are you looking at me like that?â she scoffs, pulling out some towels from the linen closet for you both to use.
âI just love youâŠalso, I think the bed IS crookedâŠat least it is nowâŠâ giggling at her.
Nayeon just glares at you, you can almost see her eye twitch with rage when she finally exclaims:
âSEE, I TOLD YOU IT WAS CROOKED!â

Genshin SAGAU, Creator of Teyvat, but not Humanity Part 11
Hello all, Simulanka hit me like a dump truck.
On that note, am so excited by the fun new lore opportunities that have come up because of it.
Warning for Spoilers up to Genshin Impact 4.8's most recent summer event
Masterlist | Prev Part
~~~
âI may have retired from my position as Archon, but I assure you my powers have not weakened. Should you break your word, you will face the wrath of the rock.â
âI will uphold my end of this deal, as long as you uphold yours Moraxâ
âThen let this contract be solid as stone.âÂ
~~~
âI really donât know what went wrong, Master Albedo,â Sucroseâs worried voice floated over his shoulder where he was examining her latest experiment.
Her experiments in bio-alchemy were not his preferred field of expertise, but he was happy to lend a hand now and again.Â
She was proficient in running her own studies and experiments, so it baffled him slightly to see her ask for his help in such a simple experiment.Â
Especially if it made her desperate enough to trek all the way up to Dragonspine in order to talk to him about it. She knew she could have easily just waited for his next trip down to the city, he did have to make those for supplies, and to visit Klee.
However, upon closer examination he understood her distress and confusion.Â
Her latest experiment, which focused on testing her latest fertilizer which was infused with dead ley line branches, had fallen apart in a rather fascinating way.
The plants were all dead, which is unfortunate but the fascinating part was that the ley lines branches were not.
A fact known to all who study ley lines is their volatility.Â
Researchers were often left to scramble around trying to document its movements in an uncontrolled environment.
WIth the ley line system being as big as it is, it was not possible for any team to span the entire system nor, with its interconnected system, was it possible to study only one section.
The closest equivalent would be to pick up dead pieces of the ley lines and study those pieces.
However, never in the history of alchemy, or even biology had a researcher ever been able to revive a completely dead piece of plant, never mind a ley line branch.Â
Not that ley lines are plants, they donât fit the definition of a traditional plant but its the closest equivalency that researchers have found when describing its characteristics.
Regardless, the pots that Sucrose had planted, all with various forms of dead ley line branches, have changed to varying degrees.
The most noticeable culprit was the one she had buried an entire branch in with the sweet flower.Â
The white branch had sprouted its own limbs and were wrapped around the original flower in a crude imitation of a hug.
Rather morbid considering that the sweet flower locked in its caress was now dead.
Not that any of the other sweet flowers had fared any better. They were all dead, with no discernible reason as to why.
âWhen did you notice this phenomenon, â Albedo asked, turning to look at Sucrose who was flipping through her notes.
âUm, a- about two weeks ago.â She explained, âAt first the experiment was running smoothly, the sweet flowers were growing normally â
She flipped open her notebook to show him her notes over the days.
âBut then all of a sudden they just started dying, and the ley line branches started growing.â
Albedo flipped through the notes, Sucrose was by no means a slouch when it came to her notes. She was always impeccably detailed and thorough when it came to recording data for her experiments.
There were no signs of the ley line branches adversely affecting the growth of the flowers for the first 3 weeks of their lifespan.Â
So what could have possibly happened to make them die like that?
Albedo looked over at the various pots scattered around his workspace, this was going to take him a while.
The Chief Alchemist of the Knights of Favonius looked over at his student, she was already starting to shiver slightly.
As a synthetic human, his body was more sturdy than that of average beings, especially as a synthetic human of Rhinedottirâs. . .Â
Well, he is very sturdy.Â
Sucrose is not, a fact made even more apparent by how sheâs moving her arms around in an effort to warm herself up.Â
He tends to keep the braiser burning low, to save on supplies. However the temperature comfortable for him seems a bit too low for his student.
âWhy donât you head back to the city Sucrose,â he suggested, putting her notebook down on his table. âThis is going to take a while to figure out, and it may be helpful for you to examine your lab once again to see if there are any variables you missed.â
Unlikely, but then again her presence here wouldnât help either of them in figuring this out.Â
Him from preferring to work alone, and her from the weather conditions.
Also, she failed to bring any meaningful amount of supplies with her, if she were to stay, theyâd both end up having to go back down the mountains in a couple of days regardless.
If she left, heâd have at least a week of peace and solitude to figure this out.
If he can figure this out.
Heâs honestly quite excited to get started, itâs been quite a while since a case had perplexed him like this.
He waved goodbye at Sucrose as she headed out.
She was much faster on her feet the way out, no doubt propelled by her desire to leave the cold, and the lack of various pots and notes to haul.
Albedo on the other hand, well.
 His clear blue eyes sparked with excitement as he dove headfirst in dissecting Sucroseâs experiment.
It was quite a fascinating phenomenon.
By all means, the ley line branches were completely dead when Sucrose started using them in her experiments.Â
Whilst that by no means meant they were devoid of power, Abyss mages have found great success in using it to augment their abilities, the fact that it can grow and presumably revive itself is groundbreaking.
Now that he really thinks about it, this is not the only odd thing that had been happening in recent times.
Some of the Knights of Favonius have reported odd patterns of Ley line disorders happening recently.
Not to mention his own research on the remains of Durin.
Hmm, what are the chances theyâre all connected.
Well, he wonât deny that the arrival of the golden haired traveler heralded many shifts in this world.
From their dealings with the Archons, to the blessings of the creator.
They are truly an exceptional person.
Interestings things never stopped happening when theyâre around.
Back to the experiment at hand, from the angle of the growth, based on Sucroseâs diagram, it seems that all the branches grew in the same direction.Â
Going back to her notes, Albedo referenced a map, triangulating the direction the branches pointed too based on the placement of the pots in her workspace.
Liyue
The branches are growing in the direction of Liyue.
What could possibly be happening in-
A draconic roar filled the air, blowing his papers all over his camp.
Summoning his sword, Albedo looked around, seeing only the tail end of an azure dragon pass over his base.
Could that be-
âDvalin wait!â a musical voice screams out, as a white blur chased after the presumed dragon.
The wind generated by that second figure hit his camp, and face full force. Knocking him a good couple of steps back.
The Alchemist is left standing there, his hair and camp in a disarray.
His papers floated around the camp like large snowflakes, while the liquids from shattered beakers slowly began to freeze over.
What did he just witness?
A small hissing sound catches his attention, one of his experimental potions had been blown off of its stand.Â
It now lay smashed in a pile of papers.
Sucroseâs papers
Albedo dove for the spilled beaker with a muffled curse
It was one thing for his experimentâs notes to be ruined, but for someone else to lend their own notes in a bid for help and for him to ruin them himself.
No, absolutely not.
This potion was supposed to be a powerful stain remover, inspired by Kleeâs recent foray into his paint supplies.
While it was successful in dissolving the stain, it also dissolved the clothing.
In other words, it would destroy her notes given enough time.
Thankfully he did manage to get to it in time.
Most of the damage he could fix on his own, given some extra ink.
The incident brought him back to his reality of a ruined camp.
As much as wanted to investigate what was going on, he really needed to clean up his camp before he did.
Thankfully nothing too valuable was destroyed. A couple of beakers here and there, but well, letâs just say Acting Grandmaster Jean would be more surprised if he didnât need to order a batch of extra beakers than if he did.
What can he say, it was the price of conducting Alchemy
Back to his camp, while itâs by no means clean, he truly didnât have the patience to wait any longer.
Who knew if the two mysterious figures were even still on dragonspine.
Grabbing his emergency bag, Albedo headed out in the direction he saw them heading it.
The Summit of Dragonspine.
. . .
He should probably bring some extra supplies, just in case.
~~~
âHraagh!â
The last hilichurl ran away as Albedo lowered his sword.
Itâs weird that thereâs such a concentration of hilichurls on his way up the summit.
In fact, heâs met more hilichurls today on his way up than he has over the past month combined.
Hmm, it bears investigating. However right now his focus is on seeing if those mysterious figures were still hanging around Dragonspine.
He had his suspicions on who they were, but well.
He wanted to confirm it with his own eyes first.
He continued his trek up, being mindful of his environment. The air grew thicker, and not with snow, but elemental power.
It was strange, whilst the celestial nail that pierced Dragonspine held a good amount of power, it was not this strong that it could be felt from so far away.
Similarly the heart of Durin was almost on the other side of the mountain.
What could be causing this phenomenon?
The Chalk Prince hastened his pace up the mountain, using his Geo constructs to help him over some of the more tricky terrain.
As he ascended, the air became more and more oppressive. Truly an average human would be having difficulty breathing by now.
But regardless he pushed on, determined to find the source of this power.
Ignoring the falling temperatures that signaled the end of the day, Albedo clambered over one last cliff, before he stumbled upon a small camp, with a couple of familiar faces.
âAlbedo!âÂ
A familiar high pitched screech greeted him.
âWhat are you doing here!â
âItâs nice to see you again Paimon,â he greeted, patting the snow off of his body, âand Traveler,â
âAnother friend of yours, I presume,â a deep rich voice said.Â
âYep, thatâs Albedo, Chief Alchemist of the Knights of Favonius.â Paimon announced, introducing him to the owner of said voice.
âA pleasure, I am Zhongli of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor.â He greeted politely, looking very out of place in his elegant brown suit, considering the location and weather.
Albedo steps forward, preparing to introduce himself a bit better when-
âOho, I believe weâve met before havenât we, good sir.â A colorful bard interjects, his blue eyes sparkling as he blocks his view of Zhongli .Â
Another familiar face, though more of a passing familiar face than a friend..
Heâs seen this man around Mondstadt, Klee enjoys his music and has on occasion attempted to drag him out to go meet this âfunny bardâ, but they always happened whilst he was in the middle of experimenting.
Albedo opens his mouth to reply, only to be interrupted once more
âAnd who is this,â a clear unfamiliar voice rang out.
Albedoâs attention was drawn to the last member of the travelerâs party.
His breath stuttered.
An elegant figure standing on the opposite side of the camp. Their head tilted as they looked at him.
Their slitted eyes were beautiful pools of liquid silver, akin to melted mercury, or liquid starlight.
Their flowing white robe swayed with the wind.
Their body backlit by the setting sun
They looked ethereal, godly.
They felt powerful.
â-do! Have you fallen off a cliff recently or what!â Paimonâs angry voice jolts him back to reality.
Ah, it seems that he missed something.
âUgggh, come one!â The fairy grabs his arm and drags him to the other side of the camp.
She has a surprising amount of strength for such a small creature.Â
Not that size is any indication of strength, heâs met Klee before after all.
The traveler followed, but not before sending the other member of their traveling party a meaningful look.
It seems that they want to discuss something important with him.
He never really did find the two figures did he.
âAlbedo,â the traveler addressed him, their tone uncharacteristically serious. âI need you to leave Dragonspine, at least for a few weeksâ
A few weeks?
âWhatâs going on?â
The duo exchange glances.Â
âIâm going to explain something to you, but I need you to not freak out.â Paimon warned, hovering close to his face.
âI wonât freak out,â Albedo promised, leaning back slightly from Paimonâs heavy stare.
They explained the situation.
About the creator, how they found them, their situation.
About a contract they made with the Adeptus of Liyue and how they needed some place where they were unlikely to accidentally hurt anyone.
It sounds unbelievable.
By all means it should be.
But thereâs no reason for them to lie, nor would they come up with this explanation unless it was absolutely true.
âYouâre not freaking out right?â Paimon asked quietly as they watched him process this information.
To the outsider, Albedo appeared as calm as can be.
On the inside however.
The idea of the creator of Teyvat, here on Teyvat.
Well, thatâs
I mean.
âWould this be a bad time to mention that Durin may be coming back to life.â
âWHAT!!!â
Friends Right?
König x Unaware!Reader (18+)
SUMMARY: This is what friends do right? Think about each other all the time, go out of their way to see each other. Youâre just friends right?
CW: Fluff, slow burn, falling in love reader, unaware reader, un-gendered reader, a little bit of smut, gentle!könig
It starts in autumn, (as do all things good in life) at first just little touches here and there, advice given more gently then usual - at least for him, lingering conversations between you two sit in the back of your mind.
You donât realize it at first just thinking youâve gone down with something, the doc tells you youâre in good health. You donât understand at first whatâs happening, thinking of him when youâre apart, wanting to make extra lunch just in case he forgot to make his - something he does quite often. Wanting to be around him more, to look your best around him. Going out of your way to see him, even being late to events just to get a few more minutes of time with him, even if youâre not necessarily interacting.
You think that maybe he might be YOUR best friend (definitely not his), growing up as a lonely child you never really had friends before. This is how friends act you think as you leave little snacks on his desk, as you touch yourself thinking of him. His sweet name on your lips as you cum, imagining his hands on you - touching you, kissing you, holding you.
This is what friends do you think as you offer to help him with mechanical work on his truck, when you end up kissing him, end up in his bed as he moans your name like a prayer, when he whispers words of love in your ear as he makes you cum first. You wake in the morning to breakfast in bed - this is what friends do right?
When you make a joke about being friends as he sets the food in front of you, he looks at you like youâre crazy. It takes you a full minute to realize this isnât what friends do at all. This is what lovers do - or at least two people who are interested in each other. You panic, quickly dressing and leaving him in the dust when he heads to the bathroom.
König catches you on your way out, confused at your sudden departure until he sees the panic in your eyes. He whispers words of affirmation as he sits you down on his couch, passing you a hot mug of coffee. Making you talk about your feelings with him, helping you realize them.
It isnât until lunch comes around youâre more relaxed, when he refuses to let you help with the chicken noodle soup. Makes you sit and do nothing so he can glance at you every few minutes loving the view. He gives you the bowl with a chaste kiss to the forehead, he doesnât wear a mask. No need considering youâve seen his body and heâs seen yours.
For the next few weeks he lingers around you, showering you with affection and taking you on dates. Itâs only then he realizes how unaware you are when it comes to love when someone tries to hit on you as the man pays for your coffee (and Königâs unknowingly).
âHey, Iâm Jacob. I thought you were cute hereâs my number. Call me sometime yeah?â
âUm okay?â
You toss it in the trash absentmindedly a few minutes later when the guy walked away. König just smiles to himself at that and squeezes your thigh as he drives you both to work. Knowing that you would never cheat on him, never get the hints people left in conversation alluding to an interest in you.
No, you would be his as long as he treated you good and kept you happy.
I Think Hypmic's Portrayal of Gender Roles is Kinda Refreshing: An Essay A.K.A. I'm Procrastinating on a Weekend Deadline :)
Hypmic's talking points on gender are hamfisted, corny, and melodramatic. "Maybe...we shouldn't have a wage gap," is not the hottest of takes. However, like most things in Hypmic, the writers have a lot more to say about gender and gender roles in the framing of the story itself that's much more nuanced. And honestly? It's kinda refreshing.
It's also something that went way over my head when I first became a Hypmic fan. Sure, I read manga and played Japanese video games--usually translated into English first--but I didn't have enough exposure to hundreds or thousands of pieces of untranslated Japanese media. I'm going to guess that most Hypmic fans don't either, which is totally fine and normal. We all exist within our respective cultural communities wherein we're bombarded with messages constantly telling us how to act, think, and speak. We tend to absorb these messages on subconscious levels and reflect them in the art we create and stories we tell, either by reinforcing them or challenging them. Thus, our stories don't exist in a vacuum, and divorcing stories from their cultural backgrounds can suggest the artist is the original thinker of a larger concept or hide their specific point of criticism. That is, if I wrote a story about a man who chooses to not catch fish, drink beer, and drive a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, we should be aware that I'm not the person who conceptualized the stereotype of dudes who catch fish, drink beer, and drive pick-ups. I wouldn't deserve the credit for dreaming up that exact image, and at the same time, it would be incorrect to read that as me targeting those three things randomly. The choice to not drive a Dodge Ram pick-up is not a commentary on Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. It's a stand-in for the notion of masculinity.
Thing is, we're hit with messages about masculinity, femininity, and other gender-related concepts on a daily basis. No matter where you live or what language you speak, every person on Earth is inundated with messages saying, "This is what you are, and consequently, this is how you should act." Our relation to these messages is complicated, and this complexity is compounded by different cultural communities preaching different messages in their stories, marketing, and human interactions. For instance, the US's massive global cultural influence means that those outside the US can still easily recognize what I mean by catching fish, drinking beer, and driving enormous American pick-up trucks. But the location and cultural differences may add or subtract nuances. A person living in, say, Munich is unlikely to have Dodge pick-ups advertised to them the way a person in rural Texas would. Our fictional Munich person does not feel the same social pressures to buy a Dodge and represent their masculinity with a Dodge the way our imaginary Texan would. In turn, the Munich person likely sees a Dodge with an element of absurdity--who the hell needs such a big truck in a European city?--and foreign Americanness. The Texan wouldn't have that concern--why worry about navigating your enormous truck down narrow streets when you live in the countryside?--and sees Americanness as their local default, thus removing any element of foreignness.
That is to say, gendered messages aimed at people (especially women) who live in Japan don't affect me the same way as they impact those who do live in Japan. Like, it's not my dog in the fight, and there are plenty of people who are directly affected who write their own stories and commentaries on gender roles in Japan. Japanese women don't need a random guy in the US to stand up and say, "Damn, your gender roles are fucked!" 1) They already know. 2) They're already saying it. So I come at this from an angle of someone who already has deep, primary frustration with the gendered messaging in my culture and secondary frustrations when similar messages appear in other cultures. I don't have a bone to pick with Japanese media in particular. Plain and simple, reading and working on hundreds of pieces of Japanese media is what I do for a living. It's in my face constantly, and as a result, I am also perpetually bombarded by messages about gender roles in Japanese media.
It's not a hot take to say that Japanese media, like the media of every single other culture around the globe, has a lot to say about gender. There's a lot of slotting people into boxes and telling people what to do. It's chafing, as we see all across history in art produced in reaction to gender roles. In the past couple of decades, global shifts in gender roles have caused media to shift the messages they're pushing, but it's not controversial to say that Japan has lagged behind other countries like the US.
Many, many stories push arbitrary notions of how to be a girl or how to be a boy that don't necessarily come from the author themselves. The authors probably aren't even fully conscious that they're making these choices. If an author writes a story about a library and makes every female character a romance fan and every male character an action fan, it's likely a reflection of endless messaging that says action is for boys, romance is for girls. In turn, this story becomes yet another reinforcing message. If no fictional girls like action, and no fictional boys like romance, it becomes alienating for real girls and boys who don't follow these same rules. These rules are everywhere and have so much to say about gender that it's hard to know where to begin. Girls must like cute things. Boys can't like sweet food. Women must not express sexual desire. Men can't be shy. On and on and on.
Which is why, when there's a relative lack of this in Hypmic, it's kind of a breath of fresh air.
Wrong Ways to Be a Man
Actually, Hypmic does have a few moments where characters claim there are certain things men or women should do, but the writing always frames these messages as incorrect.
Take Samatoki, for instance. After Kuukou and Sasara leave MCD, Samatoki tells Ichirou, "Men shouldn't cry when they lose their friends. Men should only cry when they lose a family member."
(TDD chapter 10)
This line usually appears via Ichirou's perspective. In the stage play, it's told during a song Ichirou narrates, and as shown above in panel 3, the manga frames the line from the angle at which Ichirou sees it. In such moments, the audience is meant to read this as a cool line from a strong mentor figure to Ichirou. That's how Ichirou sees it, and he's a seventeen-year-old with too much on his shoulders who idolizes Samatoki. He is incapable of seeing how much pain Samatoki struggles with.
However, when the manga focuses on more intimate moments of Samatoki's life, we see that Samatoki does struggle quite a lot.
(BB/MTC+ chapter 6)
This isn't a cool, attractive figure meant to be idolized. While Samatoki's cigarette usage and aggressiveness are often framed as sexy or enticing, the juxtaposition with dirty laundry, overflowing ashtrays, and empty bottles make him a sympathetic and struggling figure. Therefore, we should understand that his notion that men don't cry is flawed. It's a means to distract himself from emotions he doesn't want to feel.
Later, as Samatoki begins to process his emotions and open up to his teammates, the unhealthy coping mechanisms recede. Samatoki is more confident, mature, and happier as a result of being more emotionally vulnerable.
We see a similar transformation with Kuukou. As a teen, Kuukou is reluctant to accept help or truly let anyone in. In a conversation with Hitoya, he says (and I am still completely unable to take this seriously), "A man's got to wipe his own ass."
(DH/BAT chapter 4)
However, over the course of his character arc, Kuukou learns that he cannot exist as a good leader or individual without the teamwork of his newfound "family." Only rejecting this classical and toxic notion of masculinity brings Kuukou joy.
In fact, most of the first-line characters have very similar arcs. At the start of the story, Ichirou is insistent on doing everything himself. He has to learn to be able to rely on other people (Kuukou, Samatoki, Ichirou and Jirou) to be happier and unlock his true strength. See below, his final attack and Ability use in the 2nd DRB, which is only possible when his brothers figuratively and literally support him through it.
(BB/MTC+ chapter 25)
Sasara struggles with emotional honesty and trust in favor of using humor to gloss over discomfort. It takes multiple heart-to-hearts with Roshou before he can let humor take a backseat and say how he really feels. Ramuda has difficulty trusting other people and being honest with his emotions when faced with stressful scenarios. Only through Fling Posse is he able to open up and ask for help instead of driving people away when the problems are too big for him to face alone. Jakurai struggles to connect with other people, work through and acknowledge his complicated feelings, and not place himself on a pedestal. Through Matenrou, Jakurai is able to ask for help, be more open, and ultimately be less hard on himself.
The second- and third-line characters follow similar arcs, and this repetition creates a core message for Hypmic: Trust and rely other people. Be open with your feelings. There's a wrong way to be a man, and that's to hurt yourself and other people.
Right Ways to Be a Man...Are Infinite!
But with that being said, there is a surprising lack of commentary on how else to be a man. Hypmic as a whole doesn't do much to constrain the male characters in terms of gender roles.
Sure, some characters do fit into more traditionally masculine roles--Ichirou, Samatoki, Riou, etc. The messaging makes it clear that it isn't wrong to play into masculinity provided it doesn't become toxic. (See above.)
Even then, however, these especially masculine characters are associated with less masculine traits that are either portrayed positively or not portrayed as a joke. Riou is an avid cook, but the joke is never that he wears an apron and knows his way around an outdoor kitchen (tee-hee, men don't cook!). It's that he cooks with horrifying ingredients. Samatoki is a fashionista, but the joke is framed as a counterpart to Ichirou's nerdiness.
(DoD chapter 1)
Here, it's funny that neither of them can shut up (the ăă©ăă©/blah blah SFX, the long bubbles filled with lots of text that's cut to indicate they kept going for longer), but the object of their attention--a model toy and a pair of jeans--are treated in the same neutral light. It's very common for stories to touch on, even defensively, the social taboo of men being into clothes. Hypmic doesn't even acknowledge that such a taboo could exist.
This is subtle but extraordinarily effective in giving characters the same consideration and weight. The more feminine characters are always treated just as sincerely (or, if there's a joke to be made, irreverently) as the more masculine characters. Take Ramuda, for instance. In Japanese media, a love of sweets is often characterized as feminine and will often be remarked upon, even in LGBT+ media, as atypical for men. Again, there's zero acknowledgement of such a thing in Hypmic. Whenever other characters talk about Ramuda's food intake, it's always framed as a concern about the lack of nutrition.
(FP/M chapter 11... I don't have the source lying around on my computer, so here's the old-ass scanlation lol)
It's also given the exact same weight as anyone else's junk food habits. Here, MCD goes out for burgers (a neutral to masculine-coded food due to the meat and high calorie count) while Ramuda opts to try a sugary Starbucks-esque drink. The parallelism in the comic's framing suggests that the two objects are functionally the same, and there is no comment that a sugary drink is feminine and therefore "inappropriate" for Ramuda. There's also no indication that MCD's preferences are in any way better. They simply happen to be the characters' personal preferences. The punchline is two groups splitting up, only to awkwardly run into each other again moments later.
(DoD volume 4 bonus comic)
Similarly, Ramuda's interest in clothes or fashion is never treated negatively--in fact, the discussions of clothes as a means to find identity and happiness make it a positive!
In ARB cards and promotional materials, Ramuda sometimes wears dresses. It's, again, portrayed in parallel to other characters wearing more masculine clothes and is never commented on as something "unusual." It's just who Ramuda is.
Hifumi is another interesting case. Like Ramuda, his playful personality often doesn't as stereotypically masculine. (To be clear, I read much of this as "gender neutral with a strong emphasis on youth" versus "feminine" in a way that I'm not sure has a good US equivalent...metrosexual/yuppie men's fashion, maybe? In the sense that it's a youth subculture that defies some masculine gender roles but is still focused mainly on men. I wish I was more well-versed in Japanese men's fashion and could give an exact term, but I'm what I'm thinking of is definitely an established thing--young, trendy dudes whose styles focus on poppiness vs. the rugged manly man or "idk, I'm just some guy" subcultures. It's a thing that pisses off old Japanese conservative men in the same fashion as people getting up in arms about "the gayz!!!1!" and their androgynous clothing lol.) Their personalities are often the butt of jokes, but only in the same way that Dice or Doppo are--that is, that they're exaggerated and over the top. There's no commentary on masculinity or lack thereof.
There are also moments when Hifumi, Gentarou, or other characters play feminine characters in roleplay moments, which is usually (but not always) not the sole joke. The audience is supposed to find it funny, but the humor is almost always centered on the absurdity of the scene as a whole. For instance, in a moment where Hifumi and Doppo are pretending to be two drunk karaoke-goers, the humor comes from the composite set-up of Hifumi's hair twirl, Doppo's untucked shirt and tie, Doppo and Hifumi's exaggeratedly flirtatious poses, the spotlights and sparkles, and the same font as used on classic karaoke machines.
(FP/M+ September 2022 oneshot)
Hifumi and Doppo do not perform traditional gender roles in their homelife, and while it's easy to see and often commented on in the English-speaking fanbase when it comes to Hifumi, I find it just as prevalent on Doppo. It's true that Hifumi is taking a feminine role by doing the majority of the household's cooking and cleaning, but if we were to assume Doppo has the masculine role in the household, he would have the breadwinner duty. However, he isn't the main source of income for their household, and he's just as unassertive in finding a (female) romantic partner as Hifumi is. Japanese men are bombarded with media messages stressing the importance of taking an active role in career and romance. That Doppo does not would, in many stories, make him the butt of a joke for not living up to masculine gender roles. But he isn't; instead, Hypmic portrays him as a sympathetic character. It's tough, Hypmic says, for people to get good jobs and maintain friendships/relationships as an adult.
Similarly, it's noteworthy that Hifumi's self-appointed term "Gigolo" is consistently portrayed as a good thing in Hypmic. The meaning of the English term aside, the Japanese word ăžăŽă (jigoro) is almost always used as an insult for a man who is financially dependent on one or multiple women. In the strictest sense of the term, Hifumi is a jigoro in that his income derives from his female clients. However, there is never any shame associated with that, and as a whole, Hifumi's career as a host is shown to be a positive thing. I can't express enough how rare that is in any sort of semi-serious media. Certainly, Hypmic acknowledges that his job requires too much drinking (Doppo's verse in Hoodstar), but the overall portrayal is overwhelmingly positive. Hifumi and his coworkers are never treated as uneducated, boorish, or pathetic for "failing" to find other work that does not require flirting with and entertaining women. (This is partially due to the overlapping judgment with sex work.)
All the various harmless preferences and personality traits of the male characters are treated equally with no judgement over what's masculine or non-masculine. Within the broader context of Japanese media, this absence of judgment stands out and reinforces one of Hypmic's core themes: Differences make us better, not worse. In the end, Hypmic suggests, there's no one right way to be a man.
Right Ways to Be a Woman...Are Just as Infinite!
But what about women? This series is, after all, marketed mainly towards women, and while female audience members can no doubt extrapolate the lessons learned from the male characters, it's worth taking a look at the female characters too.
The female characters do receive much less screen time than the men and are not the focus in the series; I'd argue that's less an issue of overt sexism and more that they fall out of focus in the story the writers want to tell. (There's a broader discussion to be had about inherent sexism in the writers' focus which goes hand-in-hand with rap industries across the globe favoring men and rap being an example of exaggerated masculinity, but that's a topic for another day.)
Even so, the framing of the female characters is interesting in a couple key respects. The individual character arcs and motivations of the main female characters are, in my opinion, some of the weakest parts of Hypmic--many times, Otome and Ichijiku do things because the plot demands them to, making them look incompetent or needlessly cruel for characters we're supposed to sympathize with. Nemu's story seems to be handled with more care and takes an interesting twist, wherein she openly acknowledges that she's disenfranchised as a woman in modern Japan but rejects the notion that she needs to find strength on either Ichirou or Samatoki's (male) terms. By choosing to be strong in "her own way" (whatever that means...it's not well-defined), the authors are using Nemu to reject the notion that strength and power are inherently masculine.
What I find to be far more interesting is the character design for the Chuuouku women, both in what is said and what is not said.
To begin with, the characters and their portrayals run the gambit from highly sexualized to completely non-sexual. Some characters (especially Ichijku and Honobono) have conventionally attractive, curvy body types and are often drawn in ways that highlight their bodies.
(FP/M+ chapter 4)
(FP/M+ chapter 14)
In some cases, especially Honobono's, the enticing nature of the illustrations is framed as the character's choice; in the above, her words indicate that she wants to seduce the off-screen listeners. The images included above are largely representative of these characters' raps, regardless of illustrator.
But on the flip side, other characters with large breasts or hips are never drawn in a sexual fashion. By way of comparison, here are two shots of Nemu rapping.
(BB/MTC+ chapter 12)
Even in shots with dynamic poses, no attention is drawn to Nemu's figure in any sort of provocative sense. Nemu touches her chest, drawing the reader's eye there, but the artist does not emphasize the size of her chest--they're allowing a chest touch to be no more than an emphasis of the self. At the same time, Nemu's body isn't downplayed. We can see in panel 2 on page 2 that Nemu has a small waist and wider hips, but once again, she isn't being sexualized. The action lines draw the reader's eye to Samatoki and thus put the action first and foremost. This creates the idea that not only can characters portray themselves sexually, but they can just as easily choose not to.
We see similar with Otome, who does not wear any sort of revealing clothing and is never shown in a sexual fashion. However, Hypmic doesn't equate revealing clothing to sexual portrayals either! While I wouldn't call Tsumabira's outfit revealing, she does have more visible cleavage than most Chuuouku figures. However, her bare chest is never sexualized like Ichijiku's.
(BB/MTC+ chapter 4)
Compare the non-emphasis on the chest and the power stance to any of the many shots of Ichijuku where her breasts are front and center in the camera. Speaking of power stance, Tsumabira remains confident in her power stance without being sexy--that is, no stepping on the camera and showing her whole leg.
Which isn't to say that Tsumabira is a sexless character. She's drawn visibly turned on by the male characters in such a way that is cartoonish but not, in turn, overly sexual. Were this supposed to be titillating to the reader, I would have expected to see a larger close-up on her face and tongue. However, the artist (who is no stranger to focusing on tongues!) devotes the majority of the panel to Tsumabira's body language (which, again, doesn't absurdly exaggerate any of her proportions or focus on her chest) and covers part of the mouth with text bubbles. Tsumabira is drawn as engaging in sexual behavior without being sexualized for reader entertainment.
(FP/M+ chapter 4)
The juxtaposition of such different views with little to no judgement attached to any of them suggests that it's perfectly okay to want to be sexy or not, to wear revealing clothing or not, to be involved in sexual situations without being the object of sexual interest, or to simply exist with an attractive body type without sex ever coming into the equation. Just as some characters choose to tie bodies to sexiness, some don't whatsoever--and either is perfectly fine!
The former idea ("I can choose to be sexy") may not sound especially revolutionary to US audiences, where sexuality is thrust upon women willingly or otherwise, but I find it fascinating because it lets the main characters embrace this idea without associated slut shaming. So much of Japanese media insists that women should be sexy but are also wrong for wanting to indulge in their own sexuality. Therefore, having characters who run virtually every iteration of take on the topic (I want to engage in sexuality and be sexualized, I want to engage in sexuality without being sexualized, I don't want to engage in either) with multiple body types (ie, Tsumabira isn't automatically not sexualized because she has a smaller chest; Nemu isn't automatically sexualized because she has a bigger chest) and no judgement involved feels like another breath of fresh air to me.
As a whole, I find the diversity of the Chuuouku uniforms and character appearances quite interesting. They're undeniably all feminine and relatively militaristic, but different characters wear entirely different wardrobes. Skirts vs pants, blouses vs dresses, high heels vs boots... Since every character has her own take on the common theme, it once again feeds into the idea that each character is her own individual and perfectly valid for defining femininity in her own way.
Haircuts, too, range from longer and more feminine hairstyles to pixie cut-esque looks.
(BB/MTC+ chapter 16)
Again, nothing of the framing suggests this short-haired woman is in any way different from her longer-haired counterparts on the edges of this screenshot.
Finally, while most Chuuouku women are conventionally attractive, I find it extremely compelling that Haebaru is a stereotype of an unattractive Japanese woman. To be extremely clear, I do not think these stereotypes should have weight, but the combination of chubby and/or muscular build, freckles, rounded nose, and non-glossy hair is often used as a visual shorthand for unattractive or otherwise undesirable women.
Sure, it's not fantastic that Haebaru is a scheming, two-bit villain. However, so is virtually every other female character in the series, and in particular, Haebaru is (the conventionally attractive) Tsumabira's counterpart. Both are treated with the same respect or lack thereof, suggesting that one's appearance has nothing to do with your ability to be a no-good baddie. Ha ha ha.
It would be lovely if the female characters were fleshed out further and given intelligent choices and diversity outside of the realms of physical appearance. However, I do think the writers' choices are limited by virtue of all women automatically being antagonistic side characters (which, again, is another discussion altogether). What the writers can and have accomplished is further reinforcing a celebration of differences. Just as there's no one right way to be a man, there's an infinite number of ways to be a scheming snake of a woman HAHA.
Intersection with LGBT+ Topics
Unfortunately, this is a very binary look at gender and gender roles, which, while largely representative of the current state of Japanese media, can be disappointing.
Hypmic appears to want to steer shy of LGBT+ topics as a whole, which is a bit of a shame. In a story so focused on gender and acceptance of diversity, it seems the natural next step to explore the notion of those who experiences don't align with a strict gender binary. Such stories are growing in popularity in Japanese media but have yet to be anywhere near the mainstream acceptance in US media (which is still in a fledgling stage at best). I would imagine Hypmic's writers are unable or unwilling to take a definite stance on these topics in the work due to fears of financial or career backlash. If nothing else, the sexuality of the main characters needs to remain in a limbo in order to have plausible deniability for both self-shipping and shipping with other characters. (Some deniability may be more plausible than others.)
The few instances in which Hypmic does wander into this territory are usually clumsy. I am no fan of the handful of scenes where male/male attraction is supposed to be funny purely by virtue of being male/male.
The inclusion of Urumi, the one minor character explicitly LGBT+, is not stellar either. I am hesitant to apply any definite label to her, as the real-life people her stereotype portrays self-identify as everything from trans women to cis men--or refuse to use these English labels at all! Still, we know from her profession (proprietor of a bar heavily implied to be a gay bar by the neighborhood it's in), appearance (poofy permed hair, exaggerated make-up), and demeanor (feminine speech style, a bit flirtatious) that she's AMAB and choosing to present herself in a feminine fashion. By writing Jirou to ask, "Aren't you a man?" in an exasperated fashion, the writers have put her gender presentation in a boke role--suggesting she's over-the-top, exaggerated, comedic. It's not great. I completely understand why readers find it offensive (and it is) even while I don't think the writers intended it that way. Ultimately, it would have been great to see other explicitly LGBT+ characters portrayed without the joking angle.
With that said, I'm not entirely unhappy with her character. She is a stereotype, but the authors have chosen to take only the visual elements of the stereotype and leave the rest on the cutting room floor. In other works of fiction, characters like Urumi are often hypersexual to the point of being in-universe creepy, especially towards underage boys. Other times, characters like her may be eccentric or off-putting in other ways. However, that's not at all the case here. Urumi seems to play a helpful big sister/aunt role in Jirou's life, and he's clearly comfortable enough with her to spend the night at her bar.
(BB/MTC+ chapter 17. "Sorry, but can I shack up here again tonight?" "Of course you can.")
While she seems to engage in some sort of a bohemian lifestyle, as evidenced by the alcohol and smoking, it isn't anything outside of what many of the other characters do. Additionally, while she isn't drawn in a flattering fashion in scenes where she's playing up her persona (which is par for the course with any character in this series, regardless of gender), there are plenty of neutral shots of her being serious. Finally, the art is never outright rude--that is, she isn't drawn exaggeratedly masculine or flamboyantly...snakey? I don't know how to describe this to anyone who's lucky enough to have never seen this--clearly LGBT+ AMAB characters drawn with noodly limbs and huge, overblown lips winding around male characters.
Maybe because I see so much worse continuing to be produced in this day and age, I feel like Hypmic could have done a much, much worse job with this character. She overall plays a positive role and is treated with much the same care as other side characters. It's unfortunate, then, that the writers have chosen to make her gender presentation the subject of a joke.
In other frustrations, I heavily dislike the unnecessary gender divide in background characters. All punks and other background baddies are male, whereas all adoring fans are female. (But Rhyme Anima has done an interesting job of subverting this!) The vast majority of other background figures fall into strict gender roles, which is likewise disappointing. It appears that diversity may be an accepted trait for none but a lucky few that form the main Hypmic cast.
All in all, I don't think Hypmic's portrayal of gender roles is groundbreaking, nor do I think it's fair to suggest that all Japanese pop culture plays into strict gender roles. There are certainly many Japanese works, popular or otherwise, with much more interesting things to say about gender. However, when compared to the vast majority of the titles that cross my desk on a regular basis, I notice and appreciate the level of care put in to Hypmic's commentary on gender roles. The work consistently reinforces the notion that it's okay to be your own individual, no matter how that plays into your gender, and I find that freeing. That's a message we could all do to hear more often, regardless of culture and language.
TL;DR: Oh no, my rapidly approaching deadline. :)
AHAHHAHAHSHSHHD I HAVE A REQUESTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT IF YOU DON'T MIND BUT CAN YOU DO A HUSBAND ALASTOR X CRYBABY READER
Good evening my dear! Indeed I can!
I'm on a songfic fix at the moment so hopefully you don't mind me turning this into one, if you do just let me know and I can write a proper oneshot, drabble or headcanons
Crybaby
Warnings:
Murder, Alastor being weird, mild angst, OOC, the ending is a bit muddled because lack of motivation hit me like a TRUCK.
The song I chose for obvious reasons
You seem to replace your brain with your heart, You take things so hard and then you fall apart
You always had what one would call a bleeding heart, tears would overflow at the slightest instance, you fell onto the ground? Tears, you saw a rabbit munching on a carrot? Tears fell because it was just SO cute, you sobbed as you stabbed a guy to death, blubbering out apologies saying you wouldn't have to do it if he had JUST kept his mouth shut and didn't say those awful, awful things.
You try to explain, but before you can start
You met Alastor when the two of you were alive, he was an aspiring radio host at the time and well, your father ran a rather popular radio station.
Those "Cry baby" tears come out of the dark
You were considered the favorite child, (or the only child depending on the route you go) and Alastor knew that, he wasn't above using people to climb up the social ladder.
Someone's turning the handle to that faucet in your eyes
Everything was planned out, like how the two of you met, he found out what places you frequented, choosing a cafe to be the place to run into you.
You had accidentally poured warm coffee on his clothes, you cried out apologies as you patted him dry with napkins, offering to pay for drycleaning.
You pour it out where everyone can see
And that was it, it started with him charming you, asking you out for coffee, lunch, dinners and eventually he had you hooked.
Your heart's too big for your body, it's why it won't fit inside
Him eventually catching feelings for you was just the icing on the cake, a bonus, you and him felt similarly to certain affections.
His mother quite liked you as well asking him to bring you by again when you met her the first time.
You pour it out where everyone can see
As the relationship grew, he became a prominent radio personality, eventually proposing to you leading to marriage.
They call you cry baby, cry baby
Alastor was supposed to be working late that night, you weren't expecting him to come home as you washed the blood off of your hands, blood stained the bathroom sink, dried tears leaving faint streaks on your face.
But you don't fucking care
"Mon Ă©toile?"
You slowly turned around as if you were in a horror movie, the one person you didn't want to see you like this.
Cry baby, cry baby
You burst into tears falling onto the ground, not even trying to explain yourself, Alastor grinned and moved next to you, gently wiping away your tears taking silent joy from them.
So you laugh through your tears
You laughed as Alastor gave a light smooch onto your face.
Cry baby, cry baby
And that begun a new era of your relationship,
You'd act as bait luring in the folks you and Alastor felt like taking away their living privileges.
'Cause you don't fucking care
You lived like that for years, taking many lives, shedding many tears, a killer couple.
Tears fall to the ground
Unfortunately all good things come to an end.
You'll just let them drown
Alastor went to dispose of a body while you cleaned up the aftermath.
You'll just let them drown
The police showing up and breaking the news to you that your dearest Alastor was shot in the head and attacked by dogs shattered you.
Cry baby, cry baby
You spent your days crying, barely being able to organize a funeral that no one other then you attended, after all who would attend the funeral of a murderer.
You're all on your own and you lost all your friends
You were alone now, sure your family urged you to move back home, you were still a sweetheart with a bleeding heart to them, you just fell for Alastor's schemes, that no one saw coming.
You spent your days crying, clinging on to any remnants of Alastor, your social life took a huge hit.
You told yourself that it's not you, it's them
They whispered behind your back, theorizing if you were apart of the murders or not, if you knew, if you were truly innocent.
You're one of a kind and no one understands
You were found dead in your home, alone.
But those "Cry baby" tears keep coming back again
You woke up in hell, you knew you probably weren't going to heaven but still!
Someone's turning the handle to that faucet in your eyes
Tears swelled up in your eyes but you wiped them away before they could fall deciding to look around and assess your situation.
You pour it out where everyone can see
Wandering around you passed by a shop with a radio present in it, reminding you of your dear Alastor.
Your heart's too big for your body, it's why it won't fit inside
The tears started pouring, and before you could do anything else, someone touches your shoulder.
You pour it out where everyone can see
You've been down below for who knew how long now, bring found by Mimzy of all people, a good friend of yours, and Alastor's.
They call you cry baby, cry baby
Mimzy showed up at Alastor's home banging on the front door, you stood a few feet away from her, He opened it displeased at the sudden visit but he smiled wide nonetheless.
"Mimzy dear, pray tell why you are banging on my door at this unholy hour?" He asked, simply hearing his voice the waterworks began as Mimzy pulled you out from where you stood.
But you don't fucking care
Alastor's eyes ever so slightly widened, it hadn't been that long since he died, he suspected you would follow suit eventually but not this quickly.
Cry baby, cry baby
"I believe this one is yours, they've been crying on and off, it's driving me crazy" Mimzy said shoving you into Alastor as you grinned up at him through blurry eyes
So you laugh through your tears
"I missed you." You said as Alastor touched your face, brushing a claw over it, you, much like him and every other sinner looked different from when you were alive, you had permanent gold tear streaks stitched into your face, how ironic.
Cry baby, cry baby
Alastor simply grinned, wiping away a tear.
"You haven't changed a bit, Mon Ă©toile."
'Cause you don't fucking care
"You can pay me back for reunitin' ya lovebirds later!"
Mimzy laughed before running off to do who knows what, making a swift exit for plot convenience.
Tears fall to the ground
And that was that, you were finally reunited.
You'll just let them drown
While Alastor was given the name of The Radio demon you were referred to as the Crying demon,
How original.
Cry baby, cry baby
While Alastor stuck fear with a smile, hearing you wail in the distance stuck fear into others, you'd apologize as you ripped sinners apart just like you did in life.
You'll just let them drown
You watched as Alastor developed a cannibalistic taste for sinners, he opted to bring you sinner hearts as a token of affection,
You teared up from how sweet the extremely messed up act was.
Cry baby, cry baby
You also watched as Alastor's personal hygiene got worse, to the point where you'd chase him down with a sponge and a bucket of water, or before bed with a toothbrush and some toothpaste.
Much to his chagrin he was never able to escape you chasing him.
You'll just let them drown
Alastor's more sadistic tendencies were revealed in full force, with him biting and pinching your cheeks just hard enough to make you cry.
It wasn't a deal breaker but it did weird you out at first.
I look at you and I see myself
Alastor brought you to the Hazbin hotel after Husk and Niffty were pulled from wherever,
You quickly gained an affection for the hotel and it's residents, Alastor may have been using the hotel for his own entertainment but you genuinely believed in Charlie's dream of redeeming sinners.
And I know you better than anyone else
Becoming another parental figure for the princess you showered her with advice and familial affection, saying if you had a child you'd want them to be just like her.
And I have the same faucet in my eyes
Vaggie wasn't spared from the parental affection either, Alastor might not have been fond of her but you were.
So your tears are mine
You eventually became like the hotels therapist, a very prone to crying therapist but a therapist none the less.
You and Charlie tended to cry together especially if the two of you decided to put a emotionally charged movie on for movie nights
They call me cry baby, cry baby
You cried when extermination day happened, taking out exorcists left and right, your tears were filled with anger as you witnessed what happened to Sir Pentious.
But I don't fucking care
You cried tears of joy when the hotel was rebuilt and when Alastor came back from wherever he was.
Cry baby, cry baby
"You are an complete and utter MORON,"
"Mon Ă©toile, WÌŽÌÍÌÍÌÌÌÌÍÌÌÍÌ©Ìčh̶ÌÍÌČaÌ”ÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌ„ÍÌ„ÍÍt̶ÍÌÍÌÍÌÍÍÌÌÍÍÍ̧̧̊ ÌžÍÌÍÌÌÌÌÌÌ°dÌ·ÌÌÍÌÌÍÍÍÍ
ÍÍÍÌÌÌÌ̱ÌȘÍÌ"
"Don't pull that radio demon bullshit with me right now Alastor! How hard was it to arm yourself? You aren't invincible to ANGELIC WEAPONS!"
You shouted at Alastor as you paced around your newly restored shared room, first aid kit open, bandages wrapped around, angry tears in your eyes.
If you were anyone else, you would be dead for rubbing salt into the still aching wound.
Alastor sighed and swung one leg over the other, crossing his arms intending to wait until your 'temper tantrum' was over.
I laugh through my tears
Normally he rather liked your tears, in a Alastor way, but they were annoying to him in this instance.
Cry baby, cry baby
You grabbed his face, locking your eyes with his,
"You could've died, You would've left me again."
"Dearest,"
"Al,"
"I won't leave you again."
"Promise?"
You asked dropping your hands from his face only for him to hold them in his hands.
"Promise."
'Cause I don't fucking care, Tears fall to the ground
With the hotel rebuilt, bigger, more grand then before, sinners began to trickle in.
Wanting to give redemption a shot,
Some wanted to see someone they knew that more then likely ended up going above, some had nothing left to lose, some just wanted to change, hating what they've become since they fell below.
I just let them drown, Cry baby, cry baby
You quite liked how things were developing, seeing Charlie's face light up when hotel residents improved, getting clean from addiction, proving to be better.
I just let them drown, Cry baby, cry baby
Alastor originally got involved in this place for his own entertainment or otherwise, bringing you with him, he didn't think that his darling crybaby of a wife would get attached.
But maybe he was getting attached too, not that he would ever admit it even to you.
You'll just let them drown, They call you cry baby, cry baby
You and Alastor sat comfortably on the couch in his radio tower, with you laying on his shoulder, his arm gingerly wrapped around you.
I just let them drown
"Al, look how cute they are!"
You said as you held your phone to Alastor, you had to remove a few qualities in order to keep the phone, you didn't mind since you mostly used it to communicate with the hotel residents or look at animal videos on the Internet anyways.
He simply hummed as he grimaced at the phone, you were trying to show him a group of hellborn kittens,
"We should get a cat,"
"We already have a cat."
"Husk doesn't count."
You said frowning as Alastor moved his hand to your cheek, pinching it until tears swelled up in your eyes.
Cry baby, cry baby
You were sobbing at the red creature you held in your arms,
"It's adorable!" You sobbed out holding the catlike creature that you found on the side of the road much to Alastor's displeasure you wanted a cat, and you got a cat thingy
"It looks like Alastor."
"Exactly!"
Alastor squinted at the cat thing you were crying with pride over, he would throw the damned thing out the window but unfortunately you were already attached, and he preferred you to cry over literally anything else other then the failed clone of his.
You'll just let them drown
decode | rafe cameron | part three
summary: grace knew the outer banks were full of dangerous currents, but she never expected rafe cameron to be one of them.
warnings: violence, slight mentions of abuse, mentions of blood.
note: the friendly neighborhood kook is here :)
⧠listen to: seventeen going under by sam fender + affection by between friends â§
the summer heat still clung to the air even as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting an orange glow over the outdoor movie screen. the weekly movie night was a staple in obx during the summer, drawing crowds from all over the island. the grass was packed with kids sprawled on blankets, cheap folding chairs, and the occasional truck bed. laughter and the hum of idle conversation filled the air, blending with the speakers that announced the movie was about to start.
we decided to come tonight because sarah and john b were having dinner at sarah's house with her dad, ward. hopefully, theyâd be able to get the maps without anyone noticing. this was also known as, the first step to getting the gold. kie and sarah hadnât exactly mended their rift, but they agreed to be civil for now.
i stood in line at the concession stand, tapping my foot against the uneven gravel. kie had asked for a bag of popcorn, and jj and pope wanted sodas. i was debating whether or not to grab myself an ice cream when i felt someone step up behind me. my skin prickled. i didnât need to turn around to know who it was.
âhey grace, whatâs up?â rafeâs voice carried over, laced with a grin i could practically hear. pulling at my focus while setting me on edge. it wasnât fair, the way it could make me feel, like the ground wasnât steady beneath me.
âugh- you again?â i asked, crossing my arms and turning to face him. heat was rushing to my face. i hated how he could do that.
âtopper and kelce know what pope and jj did,â he said, his tone quiet but heavy.
my frown deepened. âwhat are you talking about?â
rafeâs jaw tightened, his gaze flickering over the crowd before locking back on me. âthe boat,â he said. âthey know.â
his words hit like a splash of cold water, leaving me blinking as i tried to process. the boat? what boat? a knot of dread began forming in my stomach, and for a split second, i thought about pushing him for more details.
"i seriously don't know what you're talking aboutâ i admitted, my voice quieter now. i searched his face for answers, but he didnât give me any. instead, he just shook his head, his lips pressing into a thin line, and walked away. his broad shoulders, tensed and rigid, disappeared into the crowd. it was infuriating, the way he could drop something like that and disappear.
my hands felt clammy as i grabbed the drinks and popcorn, the flimsy cups trembling in my grip. i hurried back to our blanket, nearly spilling jjâs coke on a toddler who darted in front of me. when i finally dropped onto the grass beside kie, she gave me a weird look.
what the fuck did you do?â i demanded, my voice harsher than i intended. i turned to jj and pope, who both froze mid-sip of their drinks.
âuh, what?â jj asked, feigning innocence as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.
ârafe just told me that topper and kelce know what you did,â i said, narrowing my eyes. âthe boat? what the hell did you do?â
pope winced, and jj let out a nervous laugh.
âokay, so maybe we⊠kinda sunk topper's boat,â jj admitted, shrugging as if it were no big deal.
âyou what?â kie hissed, her head snapping toward him.
âit was popeâs idea,â jj said, throwing up his hands. âtheyâve been terrorizing us for years. it was payback!â
âhey, donât pin it all on me,â pope shot back, glaring at jj. âyou were the one who said, and i quote, âletâs see if topper can swim!ââ
kie groaned, burying her face in her hands. âyou two are actual idiots.â
âidiots with a cause,â jj said, smirking as he reached for his soda. âyouâre welcome.â
âyeah, thanks for painting a giant target on our backs,â i muttered, rubbing my temples. my pulse was already racing, and i had a sinking feeling this night was about to get a lot worse.
âoh, come on,â jj said, leaning back on his elbows. âwhatâs the worst that could happen? topper tries to fight us again?"
"yes that's exactly what could happen." i corrected him. i understood why they did it, but they got caught so easily, and what annoyed me the most was that they didn't tell us.
about fifteen minutes later, jj and pope stood up, muttering something about needing to "wring it out". they disappeared behind the massive movie screen, leaving kie and me to exchange annoyed glances. i couldnât shake the tension building in my chest. something felt off.
voices. raised, sharp, and cutting through the noise of the movie and the chatter around us.
kieâs head snapped toward the screen. âdo you hear that?"
i didnât answer. i was already on my feet, my heart pounding as we ran toward the sound. we rounded the screen just in time to see kelce and jj going at each other, fists flying. topper was on the ground, choking pope, his hands wrapped around his throat.
get off him!â kie screamed, rushing toward them.
kie was already trying to pull kelce off jj, but he shoved her away. i threw myself at topper, clawing at his arms to get him off pope, with a snarl, he shoved me back so hard i hit the ground, pain exploding in my head as it smacked against the ground.
for a split second, my vision blurred, and i was back in a moment, my fatherâs rough hands pushing me to the ground, anger simmering behind his eyes. the memory hit me like a tidal wave, but it was gone as quickly as it came.
i barely had time to process what was happening when rafe appeared out of nowhere, grabbing topper by the collar and yanking him off pope. he didnât hesitate, landing a punch square on topperâs jaw.
rafeâs voice cut through again, his words a furious growl, âwhat the fuck did I tell you, topper?â but even as he yelled, i could barely process it, my head spinning and my body aching from the fall. the anger in his voice seemed distant, too far away to grasp. all i could do was try to steady myself, feeling the world tilt and spin around me.
as i pushed myself up, my hands shaking. the chaos around me felt muted, distant, like i was underwater. my head throbbed, and when i reached up to touch my forehead, my fingers came away sticky with blood.
my body was on autopilot, moving without thought as I tried to make sense of what was happening. the fight was spiraling out of control. jj and kelce were still at it, and rafe was right there, caught in the madness. but all I could think about was stopping it, somehow.
then I saw itâkiaraâs bag on the ground, tossed carelessly as the fight raged on. without thinking, i ran to it, my hands trembling as i fumbled to grab the lighter from inside. the small object felt strangely heavy in my palm, the idea hit me. my pulse was loud in my ears as i flicked the lighter to life, the flame shooting up in the dark.
with shaky hands, i held it close to the edge of the movie screen and watched as the flames crept along the fabric. they caught quickly, and within moments, the screen was alight, the orange glow lighting up the area around us.
âjesus!â someone yelled. âwhat the hell?!â
the fighting stopped immediately, everyone frozen in place, staring at the flames that had started to eat through the movie screen. the crackle of the fire filled the air, and the smell of burning fabric made me cough. my eyes darted between my friends, each of them looking stunned, some still catching their breath from the fight.
i felt a mix of panic and relief, my hands still shaking as I watched the fire burn. it was done. the fight was over. i glanced over my shoulder, I saw topper and kelce scrambling away.
âhey!â jjâs voice echoed âgrace, let's go!â
i turned around just in time to see him, pope, and kie running toward her car. but i wasn't done, just yet. i was already moving toward rafe.
"what the fuck was that?â i said, my voice full of anger.
âi didnât know they were gonna do that,â rafe shot back, his frustration matching mine. âi told youâtopper knew about the boat, but i had no idea he was gonna come after you guys again.â
i stared at him, disbelief lacing my words. âthatâs why you told me they knew? because they were going to come after us again?â
he looked away, running a hand through his hair, before locking eyes with me again. âi thought i could stop it. i thought it wouldnât go this far.â
âwell, you were wrong,â i snapped, trying to keep my voice steady. âseems like youâre always trying, it's like your favorite word lately.â
rafeâs face hardened for a moment, but his gaze shifted to my hand, smeared with blood. the anger drained from him in an instant, replaced by something softer. something like concern. âyouâre bleeding.â
i quickly wiped at my face, trying to ignore it, but it was obvious.
âjesus,â rafe muttered under his breath, taking a small step closer. âyouâre hurt. let me see.â
i tried to back away, but he followed, his eyes too focused, too intense. i couldnât keep avoiding himânot now.
âgrace,â rafe said softly, his voice lower, almost like he was afraid of scaring me. i didnât give him a chance to say more before his hand was at the back of my head, gently tilting it as he examined the cut on my forehead.
his touch was so careful, so unexpectedly tender. it threw me off. i froze, not knowing what to do, what to feel. everything was already too much, and this wasnât helping.
âthat's pretty bad,â rafe murmured, his voice almost a whisper. i wanted to tell him i was fine, but the words felt like they were stuck in my throat.
âiâm fine,â i muttered quickly, stepping back, but my hands were shaking too much. damn it, i hated this. my heart raced, but for an entirely different reason now. i didnât know what he was doing to me.
âdonât give me that bullshit,â rafe said, a little more firmly. âlet me help.â
i shook my head, stepping back again, trying to get space between us. my breath was shallow, still feeling the rush of the fight. but his eyes never left mine. they were too intense, too much.
âi need to go,â i said, the words cracking in my throat.
without waiting for a response, i walked off, refusing to look back this time.
we stumbled into the chĂąteau, the screen door slamming behind us. john b and sarah were sitting on the couch, laughing about something, but their faces froze when they looked up and saw us.
âwhat the hell happened?â john b shot to his feet, his eyes scanning the bruises and blood on all of us.
âtopper and kelce happened,â kie said, dropping her bag onto the table with a thud.
âagain?â sarah asked, her arms crossing tightly.
jj leaned against the wall, a cocky grin tugging at his busted lip. âYeah, but this time, we really gave them something to cry about.â
âjjâŠâ john bâs voice had that warning tone, and jj just shrugged.
âwe sunk topperâs boat,â he said nonchalantly like he was reporting the weather.
âyou what?â sarahâs voice shot up an octave, and john b looked like he might combust on the spot.
âyouâre welcome!â jj said, throwing his arms out. âno need to thank us all at once.â
john b groaned, rubbing his temples. âare you kidding me? why the hell would you do that?â
âbecause they wouldnât leave us alone!â pope cut in, his voice defensive. âweâve tried everything else. this was the only way to get revenge.â
âoh, yeah, genius plan,â sarah shot back. âbecause obviously, sinking their boat totally de-escalated the situation.â
âobviously not,â jj said, sarcasm dripping from his voice. âwhich is why they jumped us. you're catching on, sarah. gold star.â
âjj.â i muttered, shooting him a look.
âwhat?â he asked, feigning innocence. âiâm just saying, if anyoneâs getting a âmost dramatic reaction to a sunken boatâ award, itâs definitely topper. his family are millionaires, there will probably be a new one in the water by tomorrow.â
ânot helping,â kie snapped.
john b threw his hands up. âyou didnât think maybe we should talk about it first?â
âtalk about what?â jj retorted. âoh, hey, guys, letâs have a civilized chat about how topperâs been terrorizing us for weeks. maybe weâll bake him a cake while weâre at it.â
âjesus christ, jj.â john b muttered, shaking his head.
âlook,â pope cut in, trying to bring some sense to the conversation. âwe didnât expect this to happen, okay? and you know what else? i definitely didnât expect rafe to show up and save my ass.â
âwhat?â sarah asked, her eyebrows furrowing.
ârafe,â pope repeated. âhe pulled topper off me. took him down, too.â
john bâs jaw tightened. ârafe helped you?â
âfor once, yeah,â kie said, crossing her arms. âif he hadnât shown up, it wouldâve been a lot worse.â
sarah looked skeptical. âand youâre sure he wasnât in on it?â
âdonât care why he was there,â jj said, flopping onto the couch with a wince. âall i know is, he threw one hell of a punch. kinda satisfying, honestly.â
âhe wasnât in on it,â i cut in. everyone turned to look at me, the room going quiet for a moment. i folded my arms, ignoring the sting in my scraped-up elbows. ârafe. he didnât know topper and kelce were going to jump us, he was trying to stop it. he told me that.â
kie raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical. âand you believe him?â
i hesitated, my gaze dropping to the floor for a second. âyeah, i do,â i said finally, meeting her eyes again. âhe didnât have to show up at all, but he did. and he helped. whether we like it or not.â
âdonât give rafe all the credit,â jj said, a grin spreading across his face as he glanced at me. âgrace, nice job lighting the screen on fire. honestly, one of my favorite things you've ever done.â he lifted his hand for a high five, wincing slightly as he shifted on the couch.
i stared at him for a moment before finally slapping his hand. âthanks, jj. glad my moment of sheer panic entertained you.â
âentertained? that was genius,â he said, leaning back with a smirk.
john b was still pacing, clearly trying to digest everything. "so let me get this straightâtopper and kelce come after us because you guys sank their boat, rafe shows up out of nowhere to help, and then grace pulls off a fire stunt to distract them."
âyup,â jj said, his grin widening.
john b dropped his hands to his hips, shaking his head. "god, what a mess. next time, weâre talking things through before we do anything this reckless."
ânext time,â sarah said, sounding a little exasperated, âmaybe we keep the boat-sinking plans to a minimum, huh?â
âdeal,â jj and pope replied in sync.
the room started to feel lighter as the tension faded, and i let out a breath i hadnât realized iâd been holding. but my mind kept drifting back to rafe, how he had appeared out of nowhere, pulling topper off pope like it was nothing.
i thought i hated him, but in that moment, i couldnât shake the feeling there was more to him than i realized. then there was that touchâhis hand brushing my face, wiping the blood away. i hated how it made my heart race, but it also made me rethink everything. and now, with my friends seeing that rafe had helped us, i felt a small, unexpected relief. maybe there was more to him than the reckless, asshole guy iâd always thought he was. for the first time, i didnât feel guilty for wondering if iâd been wrong about him. maybe he wasnât such a bad person after all.
did you guys get the maps?â i asked, trying to shift my focus from rafe.
sarah let out a frustrated sigh, shaking her head. âno. my dad's office was locked, and i couldnât find the key.â she glanced at john b, her tone a little apologetic. âweâll have to go back in a day or two, when ward and rose leave for the day. but⊠i was thinking maybe someone other than john b should come with me this time.â
john b raised an eyebrow. âwhat, you donât trust me?â
âi trust you,â sarah said quickly. âbut itâs just... it might be better if itâs someone else this time. someone my dad doesn't know.â
she had a point. none of us wanted to take the risk of running into trouble again.
"iâm thinking grace should come with me,â sarah added, looking at me with a smile. âyouâre not really tied to my family, so itâll look less obvious if we get caught, and we could be in and out faster."
i nodded, realizing how solid her plan was. âi can do it,â i said, trying to sound confident even though i felt a little nervous. âweâll be in and out.â
kie, who had been listening, spoke up. âjust be careful, both of you. this whole thing is a lot more dangerous than it seems.â
âi know,â sarah replied.
i noticed it right away. there was no sarcasm in kieâs voice, no snappy remark. it wasnât like they were suddenly best friends or anything, but for the first time in a while, there was an understanding between them. it was small, but it was there. and it made me smile.
i didnât say anything about it, but i couldnât ignore that moment.
work had been exhausting, my feet ached, and the smell of food clung to my clothes, a stark reminder of the hours iâd spent hustling around marcy's. the sky was already dark as i locked up and made my way to my bike, ready to head home and crash for the night.
just as i swung my leg over the seat, my phone buzzed in my pocket. i pulled it out and saw kieâs name pop up on the screen.
kie: party tonight! perkins beach.
i paused, rereading the text. after everything that had gone down yesterday with topper, rafe, and the rest of the mess, i wasnât sure i had the energy for a party. but at the same time, maybe blowing off some steam wouldnât be the worst idea.
me: when?
her reply came almost instantly.
kie: now. please come!!!
the ride home was quick, and after a quick shower to rinse off the day, i threw on a fresh set of clothes. the possibility of seeing rafe crossed my mind. maybe it shouldnât have mattered, he was probably at every party on the island but after yesterday, the idea of seeing him made my chest flutter. i shook the thought away. it wasnât like we were friends, and whatever happened yesterday didnât mean anything. at least, thatâs what i kept telling myself.
the night air was warm, but the breeze from the water kept it bearable. the beach was alive with music, laughter, and the sounds of waves crashing against the shore. it was a mixed crowd of kooks and pogues, but the division didnât feel as stark. everyone was just here to have a good time, or at least thatâs what i told myself as i downed another drink, trying to ignore the guy who wouldnât stop talking to me.
i didnât even know his name, but he was persistent. his words were just a blur of nonsense as he babbled on about some party in the city or something. his hands moved all over the place as he talked, and i couldn't help but zone out, my eyes scanning the crowd.
thatâs when I saw him.
rafe stood at the edge of the group, leaning against a tree, half-heartedly nodding at whatever someone was saying to him. but the moment our eyes met, there was that smirk, half cocky, half amused, and i could feel heat flushing my cheeks. i quickly looked away, shaking my head at myself. the guy talking to me didnât notice, still going on about whatever pointless story he was telling.
âyeah, i-â the guy said, but i wasnât listening anymore. i was just thinking about that look from rafe.
i swigged the last of my drink, half expecting it to be a little stronger than it was, but it didnât matter. the buzz was creeping in, and the warmth in my chest was making me forget about the guy talking my ear off.
âalright, iâm gonna go check on my friends,â i interrupted him, and without waiting for a response, i pushed through the crowd and made my way toward the water, hoping to find some space to breathe.
i was standing at the edge of the water, my toes sinking into the cool sand as the gentle waves lapped over them. the noise of the party felt far away now, distant laughter and music blending into the hum of the ocean. the alcohol buzzed lightly in my veins, making the stars above seem brighter, the air softer.
i heard footsteps approaching and i already knew who it was.
âoh, look,â i said, lifting my drink with a sarcastic flourish. âour friendly neighborhood kook is here."
rafe actually laughed at that, shaking his as he stopped a few feet away. âfriendly? thatâs a stretch. but Iâll take it.â
i rolled my eyes, turning my gaze back to the water. âshouldnât you be off brooding in a corner somewhere or watching your friends terrorize someone?â
ânah,â he said, stepping closer. âbroodingâs overrated. and as for terrorizing, i thought iâd give you a break tonight.â
âhow considerate,â i shot back, glancing at him. âtruly, youâre a saint.â
âdonât push it,â he replied, grinning.
we stood there in silence for a moment, the sound of the waves crashing on the shore the only thing filling the air. i could feel his eyes on me, though, and it made my skin feel too warm.
he stopped beside me, his presence annoyingly magnetic. without a word, he tilted his head, studying me. his eyes lingered on the small bandage near my hairline, and before i could stop him, his hand reached up.
ârafe,â i warned, but he ignored me, his thumb gently tracing over the the bandage.
âi'm gonna kill topper. are you okay?â he said, his voice quieter now, almost thoughtful.
i swatted his hand away, but the touch had already sent a shiver down my spine. âiâm not fragile, rafe. iâm fine.â
he let out a low chuckle, stepping back just slightly, but his eyes didnât leave mine. âyeah? you have a hell of a way of showing it.â
i rolled my eyes. âand you have a hell of a way of just showing up wherever i go.â
âcan't help it,â he shot back, the smirk returning.
âright,â i said sarcastically.
âyou keep talking like that, grace, and people might think you donât like me.â
âoh, i donât,â i said, though my lips twitched with the faintest hint of a smile.
âyou sure about that?â his tone was teasing, but the way his gaze held mine made my stomach flip.
âpositive.â
the words barely left my mouth before the ground seemed to tilt under me. i swayed slightly, and rafeâs hand was on my arm in an instant.
âyouâre not fine,â he said firmly, his voice laced with something between frustration and concern.
âiâm just tired,â i muttered, trying to wave him off.
âgrace,â he said, his tone softening. âyouâve been drinking, and youâve definitely got a concussion. thatâs not tired. thatâs stupid.â
i opened my mouth to argue, but before i could get a word out, the dizziness overtook me completely. the last thing i saw was rafeâs face shifting from exasperation to alarm before everything went dark.
the first thing i felt was the rocking, the gentle sway of water under me. my head throbbed painfully, each pulse sending a sharp wave of dizziness through my skull. i groaned, trying to blink the fog away, but everything around me was unfamiliar.
where the hell was i?
i shot up in a panic, my heart hammering in my chest. the sudden movement made my head spin, and i clutched the side of the cushion i was on, trying to steady myself. i couldnât remember how iâd gotten here.
"easy," he said, his voice low and steady. "youâre okay."
rafe was sitting a few feet away, looking like heâd been there for a while. he stood up and came over to me, sitting at the end of the blanket must have placed over me when i was out cold.
"where am I?", i froze for a second, still trying to piece together what was happening.
"on my boat," rafe replied, his tone calm. "you passed out right in front of me. your phone was dead, and i didnât think youâd want me to call an ambulance. so, here we are."
i took a shaky breath, the tension in my chest slowly loosening. there was something oddly reassuring about the fact that he hadnât just left me alone or handed me off to someone else. heâd stayed. i barely knew him, but for some reason, his presence here, near me, made me feel safe.
"how long⊠how long have i been out?"
"a few hours," he answered, his eyes shifting to the water outside the boat, then back to me. "itâs almost sunrise."
rafe shifted in his seat, glancing over at me. "you good?"
i nodded, "yeah. just-" i hesitated for a moment, then looked at him again. "thanks for not just leaving me."
rafeâs expression softened, his gaze steady. "i wasnât about to leave you passed out on the beach, grace."
i wasnât sure what to say. instead, i just nodded.
"so," he continued, after a beat, "i think itâs safe to say you need to take it easy for a bit. howâre you feeling?"
"better," i replied, rubbing my forehead gently. "still kind of dizzy, but not as bad."
"good," he said, giving me a small smile. "just rest for now. i have no where to be."
i met his gaze, a quiet appreciation settling in. "i owe you one, huh?"
rafe smiled. "yeah, but iâll collect later."
this one is very long, but i wanted to make up for not posting for like a week :) ugh i love some flirty banter,, i hope you liked part three. stay tuned for part four soon <3
