responsible - november 16th - just general marauders shenanigans - @stag-microfic - word count: 232
"So," McGonagall muttered, sitting at her desk and massaging her temples tiredly with her hands, "care to explain who's responsible?"
Four pairs of eyes blinked back at her before all of the boys began talking all at once, a mile a minute.
"Well, I think it was Sirius's idea, really, he's such a genius-"
"-said, 'Oh, wouldn't it be so funny if we-?'"
"-of course, then Remus reminded us of that spell you taught us in class last year, remember the one where-"
"- James learned how to do it in about five minutes flat, so smart-"
"-and then Pete, sneaking to Hogsmeade for-"
"-and of course James did amazing with distracting, so-"
"-so useful."
But McGonagall could only look on with an amused expression. "You now you're supposed to deny what you did, right?" she asked, despite herself.
James Potter just gave a little laugh, though. "Professor, we've been going here for five years. I think you know by now that any half-decent prank came from us. Plus," he exchanged glances with his friends, "we worked hard on it. Might as well get the credit we deserve."
And as she took in his grin, McGonagall just sighed, holding back her own smile. "Detentions for all of you tomorrow at seven."
"Aye, aye, captain!" Sirius Black said with a smile and a salute as they all stood and walked toward the door.

in response to your latest reblog re: popular fics, are there any lesser known fics you'd recommend? I feel like every tiktok or tumblr rec list is full of the same stuff now... preferably on the medium to long side (90k+)
oh, hi, nonnie! love this ask because I love yapping about fics! it feels like my moment! let's see, 90k+ directly from my very messy bookmarks that are, in my opinion, highly underrated:
(The yapping got too long, sorry)
Precious Love by AdrianManwaring: Remus and Sirius, upon moving to a new city, are called to become foster parents. Really lovely story about family and finding a place in the world. (kid fic-adoption. established wolfstar. 188k.)
call it fate, call it karma by veridity: Sirius wants to make an entire corrupt empire fall down and recruits Remus, a journalism student with a big sense for justice and his sworn enemy since, probably, day 1. A personal favourite, highly highly recommended. (university au. journalism. 103k)
Harry Potter and the Dog and The Wolf Series by thewholeofthemoon (on-going, main story finished): The Full Moon doesn't fall during the Shack reunion, so Peter never escapes and things adjust according to it. I always recommend this series for a reason. One of my favourite wolfstar. I've reread it several times. (fix-it/canon rewrite. 605k)
Second Generation Series by @languagelessonswolfstar: Teddy is found in a broom closet with his boyfriend, Leo, who happens to be Sirius' kid. When their parents are called into school, things get a bit awkward, considering they are exes. Completely obsessed with this fic and this dynamic and the pain.
Glorified Foresight by irrelevanttous: Remus comes back to England with the promise of Wolfsbane and has to face his previous life, very pissed off with him ex lover included. This fic is such a fucking rollercoaster. It also has one of my favourite magical battle scenes so !! (kinda enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers again! and a mystery! canon divergence. 157k)
How Long 'Til My Sould Gets It Right by @severedreamerfox: Remus and Sirius try to build a life together while they stay at Grimmauld Place. But destiny has its surprises, ones better than others. If you know me, you know how much I love krabapple's fics, but this will probably always be my favourite, not only of hers but of any fic ever. Highly recommended. (bring back black. mpreg. 88k)
The World Is Waiting For You by thechanchanman: Lily and Remus participate in a reality show around the world. Their main rivals happen to become more than that at quick speed, but first, they need to win the race. Very light funny and lovely story if you need fluff in your life. (amazing race au. 92k)
couple more, this time shorter:
Ullswater by @eyra: Winter term at the Ullswater Institute. Lots of classical music, pining and just, so lovely. (university au. 30k)
Let Me Get What I Want (This Time) by Sierra_Sitruc: Teen Sirius starts having visions that seem from a different life. Personal favourite, right at the top and brilliant concept. (canon divergence/fix-it. 69k)
The Adventures of Captain Sirius Black and His Most Excellent Dragon Padfoot by OptimisticDinosaur: Sirius is a pirate who, somehow, gets adopted by a lovely dragon and fights a war alongside a very grumpy Remus. They fall in love while on it. THE DRAGONS !!!! THE ACTION !!! just so good (historical fantasy. 37k)
The Killing Time (unwillingly mine) by @kaaaaaaarf: Sirius loves getting engaged to lame and insufficient men, so Remus takes matters into his own hands. I love this fic so much I went down a rabbit hole of making all my friends read it, so trust my delirium. (murder husbands. 17k)
9 Months by @billspaid: Lily is expecting, and these are the nine months of her journey. Such an amazing and heartwarming fic from such an amazing and talented friend. Any of her works is brilliant, but this one will always be my favourite. (pregnancy fic. 32k.)
Blood Sugar Sex Moony by @emeryhall: Sirius and Remus from 1981 London are magically deposited in 1995 Sunnydale High, with its cliques and a bit of murder. The concept of this fic is the coolest thing ever I devoured it in a day !! (canon divergence. 63k)
Step & Repeat by @theresthesnitch: In which Remus accepts to be famous actor Sirius' fake boyfriend, they platonically share bed and live in a lovely denial. I want to remark not only the amazing writing and story but also the media content used in the fic, because it is such a brilliant work it needs to be addressed. (fake dating au. 62k)
Best Friend's Wedding by amberlink: Sirius is in love with James. But James is marrying Lily. So Sirius has a plan to get James back, and it involves Remus. What can go wrong? An absolute masterpiece of pining and bad decisions. (fake dating au. 61k)
drop your recs too if you want!!

bonfire - @wolfstarmicrofic - 89 words
"Pads... what happened last night?"
bonfire night.
sparks flying.
casting lumos in the dark.
moony's eyes, reflecting the fire in front of him.
falling down into the grass.
tugging on moony's sweater, the patterned wool soft and warm.
kisses. oh, the kisses.
woods. trees. darkness.
moony's scars, shining in the moonlight.
throwing rocks into the lake. watching them splash.
feeling hands slide up his back. under his shirt.
darkness.
falling into bed, moony's warm body beside him.
sleep.
"I think we got lost in the forest, Remus, that's all."

They become really good friends, she and James.
She can't tell you when or how the friendship started exactly, probably that first meeting, but who knows about these things, really? There's never a definite starting point. There's just—every day of him unfailingly showing up at the end of her day, walking to the station and taking the train home together, sharing the same handrail. On the days their schedules don't match, he's always in the kitchen when she gets home, or on the porch steps of the apartment, asking her about her day or offering her grapes or chips or sour gummy worms or, that one weird time, little sprout hair clips. (He was already wearing a couple, baby plants wiggling up there on his head, in his perpetually toussled hair. It looked silly and stupid and made her laugh. She let him put some on her hair and they laughed together at Sirius's what the fuck face when he saw them. Then they chased him around to put some on his perpetually perfect hair.)
There's exams season with him at the cafe, Mary along sometimes, Sirius (who also did not enroll this semester, Lily has come to learn) and Remus offering support and entertainment and the best lattes in the city, no bias. James falls asleep on the table and she gently moves his head to remove his glasses. She falls asleep on the table and their friendship almost falls apart, because James fucking draws glasses on her face. Then she sits still and glares daggers at him while he carefully wipes it off, trying not to laugh and swearing that he knew one hundred per cent the marker was water-based, okay, and that it was going to come off without problem, and don't castrate me, Evans, I promise not to do it again. (You kinda look cute with glasses though.)
There's fruit stand stops on the walk home, befriending the auntie who sold the biggest, sweetest strawberries; late night convenience store trips for cup noodles; cheap canned beer nights on the rooftop—not to get drunk, just to help sleep, especially on days when she's homesick. There's memorizing each other's coffee orders, and how the orders change depending on their moods, the weather, and the company, because James doesn't order his lame sugary drinks when they're with what he and Sirius call outsiders (who are usually people Lily and Mary bring to the cafe for study sessions; research paper groupmates, lost freshmen, schoolwork partners, etcetera).
James Potter becomes a constant, reassuring presence; a comfortable silence she can work in, a laugh she can pick out from the crowd.
Which is why the first time he disappears sends her into a bit of a panic.
— the one with the trains and the grape police (ao3)

This is literally my last resort I read the first chapter of a fanfic once and I have never been able to find it again.
so it was an au on ao3, i think it gave regency vibes but there were phones. Remus was a tailor and Sirius and James were high society in some capacity. Sirius’s father just died and Sirius needed a new suit for the funeral. Remus’s father was the potters family tailor and had been for a long time. James recommended the business to Sirius. When Sirius got there, Remus had taken the business over or something. Sirius was super resistant to the lupins bc they were not typical high society business. I think Sirius is v rude to Remus when they first meet.
this is not the best description but it’s as much detail as I can put together. if you manage to find this I will owe you my first born AND a fruit basket istg. Thank youuuuu
Oh you’re very kind but please don’t give me a baby. I don’t know what to do with those. 😂
But! If this IS the fic you’re looking for, could you leave a comment for the author? I’m sure they’d appreciate knowing they left an impression on you. 🩷
Naked is the New Black by @leavesthatarebrown
He was Lord Sirius Black III, of the Noble and Most Ancient House, Duke of Sutherland, Marquess of Stafford, and Master of Godric Hall. He would not be sent into a tailspin by a simple tailor. He would not pine over a meagre suit. He was stunning, dripping in silver and black and deep shades of purple. It was him, his beauty, his body, not someone’s craft, that made him the powerful, imposing figure that commanded the attention of every insipid soul out there. More, they demanded. And he would be more. He would be everything.
After the death of his father, Sirius takes up his place at the head of Britain's most influential aristocratic family. And Sirius is absolutely fine with it. After all, he has the wealth, the titles, the huge estate - plus everything money can buy. What more could he possibly want?
If that is the fic, I also noticed that the author has another fic in the same AU:
Distraction by @leavesthatarebrown
Remus and Sirius have sex in front of the mirrors in Remus' atelier. That’s it, that’s the plot.
Set sometime after the last chapter of my fic naked is the new black - don’t worry no spoilers and you don’t need to have read it to enjoy the smut!

James's Amortentia
Hey guys! Someone requested I do some writing exploring the ways Amortentia can smell (that it doesn't always reflect romantic love) so I decided to so a series of microfics about it! I'm hoping to get a few of them done today.
Five
Fleamont had been a master potioneer since before James's conception, so James was raised around all types of potions. His father had taught him, when he'd deigned to be interested, about all different concoctions and their effects.
He'd smelled Amortentia for the first time when he was five.
He knew what it was and had a vague idea what it meant, so when he smelled the warm spices he associated with his mother's cooking and the deep mint that reminded him of his father's aftershave, he was only reassured. He loved his parents more than anything, after all. It made sense.
Twelve
Though he hadn't bothered to check how his Amortentia smelled as he grew, he wasn't shocked when he sniffed the colorless concoction and caught whiffs of the Quidditch Pitch and the Dorm and the Gryffindor Common Room. He cared deeply about his friends and, as he explained to Sirius, the depth one could love a friend was as deep or deeper than romantic or familial love.
So the swirls of the warm fire and the soil of the Pitch and warm spices and their messy Dorm and minty aftershave all mixed together, creating a wonderfully comforting scent.
Except for the one, poignant spike of lilies that was weaved throughout, sharp but somehow fleeting.
Fifteen
That scent of lilies drove him throughout the next few years. Every time he and his friends snuck a vial of Amortentia, he breathed in deeply checking to make sure the floral aroma was still there.
He became obsessed with the idea. That Lily Evans was his true love, that the potion deemed it so. Never mind that Lily Evans wore lavender perfume or used, according to Remus, vanilla-scented hair products. The potion knew best.
Seventeen
His entire worldview was changed in a single moment. The moment he found Regulus, newly escaped from Grimmauld Place, sitting silently on a bench in the Potter family garden, staring a thousand miles away.
And James felt his heart being pulled completely in the younger boy's direction.
"Alright?" he murmured, sitting next to him, wondering why he felt so compelled to be close.
"No," Regulus mumbled, not looking up.
But James just sent him a small, reassuring smile. "You will be," he whispered, reaching backward and grabbing a random flower off a stem and gently placing it into Regulus's hair.
It was only after he walked into the house, catching whiffs of his mother's cooking, that he realized, his mind zeroing in on the way the scent mixed with the floral one still wafting in from outside:
The flower he'd placed into Regulus's hair was a lily.

Can someone help me? I've been looking for a fic for a while. Remus never went to Hogwarts, but he's Lily's neighbor or something? Then James and Sirius go to her house for some reason, I don't remember why and Sirius sees Remus through the window of the knightbus. Then he suspects that Remus is a wizard because muggles can't see the knightbus, but not even Lily knows that Remus's magical. There's a scene towards the end when Snape outing Remus as a werewolf in the middle of the street. If anyone knows that fanfic, please tell me, because this is my last resort to find it 😭

@wolfstarmicrofic || 21st of November || The Tunnel to Hogsmeade || 457 words || ao3 post
It was fruitless. Remus knew it was, and he had told Dumbledore. Roaming the halls in search of Sirius Black, especially when he had been already able to escape unseen once, was stupid. Well, unseen if you didn't count poor Ron Weasley, who still looked a bit pale even a fortnight later.
There was no way Sirius was still in the castle, and he would be incredibly stupid if he tried to attack the tower again. And, well, the man could be an insane murderer, but he was also the smartest among them.
So, fruitless.
Still, Remus complied and agreed to walk the corridors he knew like the back of his hand. The objective was to find Sirius before he tried killing someone again, of course. Nothing else. Remus was just following orders. Always the soldier. The Dumbledore's Man. Protecting the castle, the students, Harry.
Or, that was what he told himself as he adjusted his robes, ignoring the hope building up in the middle of his chest with the idea of seeing Sirius just once again.
It was absolutely not there.
The third-floor corridor looked calm enough the fourth time Remus walked it, as expected a night in the middle of November. But, just as he was approaching the One-Eyed Witch once again, Remus saw it. It was just a second, a glimpse of orange fluff he remembered it belonged to a certain animal-pet. It disappeared behind the statue and, unless Hermione's missing cat was secretly a ghost, there was only one place it could have gone.
Well, fuck.
Remus took a deep breath, feeling a thick bead of sweat trailing down his back despite the freezing cold; his mouth went dry and his heartbeat quickened as he closed the distance in five long strides.
Murmuring the well-known spell he hadn't used in more than fifteen years, the Professor watched the statue open again and squirmed through the small gap, entering the passage.
The scent was familiar as always: chocolate, dampness and thick dust. It was safe, at first, until he caught what he had missed at first. Sweat, soil, smoke and sandalwood. It was different, thicker, more mature, but still too recognisable for his liking.
And then Remus saw him. He was still incredibly tall, his hair was longer than before, reaching a waist that looked too thin, his shoulders less broad, less firm. He turned around the nearest curve, with a fluffy orange cat on his feet and what Remus could swear was a cocked head in his direction, a familiar gesture. His voice was the same too, baritone, deep, hoarser than twelve years before but sending the same shiver down his spine it did back then.
"Oh, Moons. You came back to me."

magic - @wolfstarmicrofic - 81 words
magic, he whispered.
magic. what a funny word.
it was remus lupin's world, after all. it was what he grew up in, it was his life.
and when he started at hogwarts, it was a new world of magic, a world when magic wasn't just around him but in him.
but the real magic. oh, the real magic.
merlin, moony. you're magical.
the magic that sirius black was.
the magic that sirius black said he was.
now that was real magic.
