New writer's reblog game:
In a reblog or reply, post a set of song lyrics that you most associate with your current writing work, (even if it thematically has nothing to do with the actual plot) :D

what do you like to listen to when writing
My main requirement for stuff to listen to while writing is no words. I'll listen to songs with lyrics to gear up for writing, stuff that matches the characters and/or the vibe, but once I hit the keyboard I don't want words from outside my head mixing it up with the ones inside.
So yeah, I listen to a lot of instrumentals. Classical, chamber, new age, ambient ... and nature sounds are also good. If it happens to be raining, I'll open my window a little and listen to that. 馃槉鉀堬笍

Hi! So I was listening to this song called Dandelions by Ruth B. and it reminds me of Stephen and perhaps a reader who is his soulmate...
Here are a few lyrics:
And I've heard of a love that comes once in a lifetime And I'm pretty sure that you are that love of mine
And I see forever in your eyes I feel okay, when I see you smile, smile
Wishing on dandelions all of the time Praying to God that one day you'll be mine Wishing on dandelions all of the time, all of the time
It's the longing that does it for me and reminds me of the love Stephen yearns for and deserves.
I just listened to it, and it's lovely! I misted up thinking of our Stephen, and how he lives that yearning for a once in a lifetime love, quietly in his heart every day. That's what I see, and I know you see it too. It's more than a reflection of the same yearning that we both feel; it calls us to somehow give him exactly that when we write him.

And I've seen you capture that eloquently, especially when you infuse your work with your hearfelt emotions. I like to think--when I've gotten it right--that I manage it from time to time too. Thank you for sharing it with me--and for your discernment that I'd understand exactly what it means.馃グ馃グ

I cannot stand the parodies of modern major general, they're overdone and simply not as good as the original. They've done them about everything, whatever topic, big or small.
And when i notice one of them my eyes will always start to roll.
The diction's always slurry when they rush the complicated words, and adding many fricatives will turn it so cacophonous. The slanted rhymes are silly and they keep just making more and more, please someone stop the parodies of modern major general.
The scanning of the lyrics in the meter is unbearable, they emphazise the syllables in ways that are untenable, in short in matters musical, prosodic and ephemeral, i cannot stand the parodies of modern major general!

this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.
good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.
sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.
so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.
one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.

worried that thing you put in your art or writing or game or music is too self-indulgent, too self-referential, too niche for anyone but yourself? fear not! you can do whatever you want forever. and you should.

Hey this is neat. I now have little guys!
Anyway, does anyone have playlist they use for writing?
My current personal playlist is literally just the album "declaration" by the band "Red" but it highly depends on your personal music tastes! I will sometimes make a playlist for specific fics or story ideas, but in this case I saw this band had a (New to me, it's over a year old at this point) album I hadn't listened to before and decided to just open it up on youtube and play it on repeat while writing XD
So, I guess it really depends, what genre are you writing and are you looking for purely instrumental music that sets a mood in the background without distraction, or music with lyrics?
if anyone has playlists to share, feel free!

HETEROSEXUAL CIS-PEOPLE LOOK HERE
Tumblr media
Snaps my fingers at you as you scroll past this post
Look at me. Listen.
I'm not the best at serious posts, but that article up there reminded me of how important it is that people like you stand up for us. So hold on while I try to get this out of my mushy end-of-work-day brain.
We could fight this fight ourselves for decades trying to reach the equal laws, gender affirming trans healthcare that doesn't have a 2-5+ soul-eating years of waiting time, medical care with equal knowledge of lgbtqia+ bodies, and, what is often forgotten, inclusion in the little everyday areas of life like our way of speaking or things being set up or designed with the existence of queer people in mind.
But you joining in could get us there so much faster.
The power you have as a hetero cis person is that you set the standard for what is seen as the average way of treating us among other hetero cis people. You have been given the power of deciding what's "normal" and I'm begging you to use it.
Richard Green is a great example of to what extent your actions can help our situation, and smaller ways of support still add up to a great impact on society, and could make the days of the queer people you interact with.
Educate yourself before you speak up, but don't be silent.
