Athena really did just pick a family and go- that one’s mine. Like we know Odysseus and Telemachus already have ties to Athena, but it’s always not mentioned as much that in the Odyssey, Athena looks after Penelope as well! She blesses Penelope with sleep when she cries, and soothes her-
I like to think that it was really hard for Telemachus to consider Odysseus as his father despite all of the years he's been titling him as one. It's easier to trust that someone gone will come back, than to actually believe and envelope the fact that they're here.
I was further in my banjo practice that I currently am. My aunt grabbed my instrument and said, “Watch this!” before absolutely *shredding* the strings playing Cotton Eye Joe.
I’ve had Epic the Musical on repeat while drawing the Thirty Years AU comic, so here’s a very unserious Gravity Falls Odyssey AU where Ford thinks he’s Odysseus, the clever hero under divine guidance, but the real Odysseus is Nobody, aka Stan, the misfortunate man trying to get home. To Ford, Bill is Athena. To Stan, Bill is Polyphemus.
Absolutely OBSESSED with how (spoilers for the Wisdom Saga) in God Games, Aphrodite doesn't mention Odysseus's romantic love for Penelope (like I expected), but instead focus's on his mom's love for him. Aphrodite is so often portrayed as just a goddess of romantic love and it's so fucking cool to see her invested in other types of love, too.
