INTRODUCTION
Content marketing has become an essential aspect of modern marketing strategies. From small businesses to large corporations, companies are utilizing content to connect with their target audience and drive business success. In today’s digital age, where consumers are bombarded with advertisements and promotions, content marketing offers a unique approach to engage with customers and build long-lasting relationships.
What is Content Marketing?
At its core, content marketing is the creation and sharing of valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience. It involves using various forms of media such as blogs, videos, social media posts, infographics, podcasts, etc., to provide informative or entertaining content that resonates with your target audience. The goal of content marketing is not to explicitly promote a product or service but rather establish credibility and trust with potential customers.
Why is Content Marketing Important?
The power of content marketing lies in its ability to create meaningful connections between brands and consumers. By providing valuable information or entertainment through your content, you can establish yourself as an industry expert and build trust among your target audience. This trust translates into brand loyalty and increased sales in the long run.
Moreover, traditional advertising methods have become less effective due to the rise of ad blockers and consumer skepticism towards traditional ads. On the other hand, quality content that is genuinely helpful or entertaining can break through this noise and capture the attention of potential customers.
– EXPLANATION OF WHAT CONTENT MARKETING IS
Content marketing is a powerful tool for businesses to attract and engage with their target audience. It involves creating valuable and relevant content that addresses the needs and interests of your target market. This content can take various forms such as blog posts, videos, infographics, social media posts, podcasts, e-books, webinars, and more.
At its core, content marketing is about building trust and credibility with your audience by providing them with valuable information rather than constantly promoting your products or services. It aims to educate and inform rather than sell directly. By consistently delivering high-quality content, businesses can establish themselves as thought leaders in their industry and earn the trust of their potential customers.
One of the key elements of successful content marketing is understanding your target audience. You need to have a clear understanding of who they are, what they care about, where they spend their time online, what kind of content resonates with them, and what motivates them to take action.
Once you have a solid understanding of your target audience, you can create a comprehensive content strategy that aligns with their interests and needs while also supporting your business goals. Your strategy should include defining the types of content you will create (e.g., blog posts vs. videos), the platforms you will use (e.g., website vs. social media), how often you will publish new content, and how you will measure success.
IMPORTANCE AND BENEFITS OF CONTENT MARKETING FOR BUSINESSES
Content marketing has become an essential tool for businesses looking to establish a strong online presence and drive conversions. It involves creating and sharing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined target audience. In today’s digital landscape, where consumers are bombarded with advertisements and promotions, content marketing offers a more subtle approach to building brand awareness and credibility.
The importance of content marketing for businesses cannot be overstated. Here are some key benefits that make it an indispensable part of any marketing strategy:
1. Establishes brand authority and credibility: By consistently publishing high-quality content that addresses the pain points of your target audience, you can position yourself as an expert in your industry. This helps build trust with potential customers, making them more likely to choose your products or services over competitors.
2. Boosts search engine rankings: Search engines like Google value fresh, relevant content when ranking websites. By regularly updating your website with valuable blog posts, videos, infographics, etc., you can improve your search engine optimization (SEO) efforts and increase your visibility online.
3. Drives traffic to your website: Quality content attracts visitors to your website who would not have found you otherwise. When people find helpful information on your site that meets their needs, they are more likely to explore other pages on your site and potentially convert into customers.
IDENTIFYING YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE
Before diving into the world of content marketing, it is crucial to first identify your target audience. The success of your content marketing strategy heavily relies on understanding and catering to the needs and preferences of your target audience. By identifying your target audience, you can create content that resonates with them, captures their attention, and ultimately drives conversions.
In this section, we will discuss some key steps to help you identify your target audience:
1. Define Your Product or Service: The first step in identifying your target audience is to clearly define what product or service you are offering. This will help you understand the type of people who would be interested in what you have to offer.
2. Conduct Market Research: Once you have defined your product or service, it’s time to conduct market research. This involves gathering data about your potential customers such as their demographics (age, gender, income), interests, behavior patterns, and purchase habits.
3. Analyze Your Current Customers: Another helpful way to identify your target audience is by analyzing your current customer base. Look at who is already buying from you and try to find common characteristics among them.
4. Create Buyer Personas: A buyer persona is a semi-fictional representation of your ideal customer based on market research and real data about existing customers. It helps put a face and personality behind the demographics and behaviors of your target audience.
– WHY KNOWING YOUR AUDIENCE IS CRUCIAL FOR SUCCESSFUL CONTENT MARKETING
Knowing your audience is one of the key elements for successful content marketing. In today’s fast-paced digital world, it is not enough to simply create and distribute content without understanding who your target audience is. With so much noise and clutter on the internet, it is crucial for businesses to tailor their content specifically to their target market in order to stand out and effectively communicate their message.
So why exactly is knowing your audience so important for successful content marketing? Let’s delve into some of the reasons:
1. Targeted messaging: By understanding your audience, you can create more targeted and relevant messaging that resonates with them. This means taking into account factors such as demographics, interests, pain points, and values of your target market. By crafting messages that are specific to their needs and preferences, you are more likely to capture their attention and engage them with your content.
2. Higher conversion rates: When your content speaks directly to your audience’s needs or problems, they are more likely to take action on it. This could mean making a purchase, signing up for a service, or subscribing to your newsletter. By addressing their pain points and offering solutions through your content, you establish trust with your audience which can lead to higher conversion rates.
METHODS FOR IDENTIFYING AND UNDERSTANDING YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE
When it comes to content marketing, one of the key factors for success is understanding and effectively targeting your audience. Without a clear understanding of your target audience, your content may not resonate with them and fail to drive engagement or conversions. This is why it is crucial to use methods that can help you identify and understand your target audience.
1. Conduct thorough market research: The first step in identifying and understanding your target audience is conducting thorough market research. This involves gathering data on demographics, interests, behaviors, preferences and pain points of potential customers. Market research can be done through surveys, focus groups, interviews, or by analyzing data from online tools like Google Analytics.
2. Utilize social media analytics: Social media platforms are a goldmine for valuable insights about your target audience. By using analytics tools provided by various social media platforms such as Facebook Insights or Twitter Analytics, you can gain valuable information about your followers such as their age, gender, location, interests and more.
3. Monitor website traffic: Your website visitors can also provide valuable insights into your target audience. Tools like Google Analytics can track the behavior of visitors on your website including pages they visit most frequently, time spent on each page and their journey before leaving the site. This information can help you understand what type of content resonates with them.
SETTING GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
In order to have a successful content marketing strategy, it is crucial to set clear and specific goals and objectives. These will serve as the foundation for your entire content marketing plan and guide you towards achieving success.
1. Identify Your Overall Marketing Objectives: The first step in setting goals for your content marketing is to identify your overall marketing objectives. This could include increasing brand awareness, generating leads, driving website traffic, or boosting sales. Having a clear understanding of what you want to achieve through your content will help you create more targeted and effective campaigns.
2. Make Your Goals SMART: Once you have identified your overall objectives, it is important to make them SMART – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound. This will give you a clear roadmap for what needs to be done and when it should be accomplished by.
3. Define Your Target Audience: In order for your content marketing efforts to be effective, they need to resonate with your target audience. Take the time to define who your ideal customers are – their age, interests, pain points, etc. This will help you create content that speaks directly to them and encourages engagement.
– ESTABLISHING CLEAR GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR YOUR CONTENT MARKETING STRATEGY
When it comes to content marketing, having a clear set of goals and objectives is crucial for creating an effective strategy. Without a solid understanding of what you want to achieve with your content, it can be difficult to measure success and make necessary adjustments. In this section, we will discuss the importance of establishing clear goals and objectives for your content marketing strategy and how to do so effectively.
1. Define Your Target Audience: The first step in setting up any successful marketing strategy is identifying your target audience. This includes understanding their demographics, interests, pain points, and behaviors. By clearly defining your target audience, you can create content that resonates with them and addresses their specific needs.
2. Identify Your Objectives: Once you have a clear understanding of who you are targeting with your content, it’s time to establish the objectives you want to achieve through your content marketing efforts. These objectives could include increasing brand awareness, driving website traffic or leads, improving customer engagement and retention, or showcasing thought leadership within your industry.
3. Set SMART Goals: A great way to ensure that your goals are realistic and achievable is by following the SMART criteria – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound. This means setting specific targets such as increasing website traffic by 20% in the next six months or generating 50 new leads per month through content.
– HOW TO MEASURE SUCCESS AND TRACK PROGRESS TOWARDS YOUR GOALS
Measuring success and tracking progress towards your goals is a crucial aspect of any content marketing strategy. Without proper tracking, it can be difficult to determine if your efforts are effective or if you need to make adjustments. In this section, we will discuss some key steps for measuring success and tracking progress towards your content marketing goals.
1. Determine Your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The first step in measuring success is to identify the key metrics that will help you track progress towards your goals. These metrics, also known as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), should align with your overall business objectives and provide insight into the performance of your content marketing efforts.
Some common KPIs for content marketing include website traffic, conversion rates, email subscribers, social media engagement, and lead generation. Depending on your specific goals, you may have different KPIs that are more relevant to your business.
2. Set Realistic Goals
Before you can measure success, you need to establish clear and realistic goals for your content marketing strategy. These goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound (SMART).
For example, if one of your main objectives is to increase website traffic through content marketing by 20% in the next six months, this goal meets all the criteria of being SMART. Having well-defined goals will not only help you focus on what matters but also make it easier to track progress towards achieving them.
CREATING HIGH-QUALITY CONTENT
Creating high-quality content is essential for any successful content marketing strategy. In a sea of information and competition, it is crucial to produce content that stands out and engages your target audience. High-quality content not only helps to attract potential customers but also builds trust and credibility with your existing audience.
Here are some key factors to keep in mind when creating high-quality content:
1. Know Your Audience Before you start creating any type of content, it is important to have a deep understanding of your target audience. This includes knowing their demographics, interests, pain points, and preferred communication channels. By understanding your audience’s needs and preferences, you can tailor your content to effectively resonate with them.
2. Provide Valuable Information One of the main reasons people consume online content is to gain knowledge or solve a problem. Therefore, it is vital to provide valuable information in your content that addresses the needs or interests of your audience. This could include industry insights, how-to guides, informative articles or case studies.
3. Use Engaging Formats Content comes in various formats such as text, images, videos, infographics etc., and using different formats can make your content more engaging and appealing to different types of audiences. For instance, visual learners may prefer infographics while others may prefer video tutorials or podcasts.
– TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL CONTENT MARKETING:
1. Know your target audience: Before creating any content, it is important to understand who your target audience is. Conduct market research and create buyer personas to get a better understanding of their needs, preferences, and behaviors. This will help you tailor your content to meet their specific needs.
2. Create high-quality and relevant content: Quality is key when it comes to content marketing. Your content should be informative, engaging, and valuable to your target audience. It should also be relevant to their interests and pain points, in order to capture their attention and keep them engaged.
3. Use different types of content: To appeal to a wider audience and keep them interested, use a variety of content formats such as blog posts, videos, infographics, podcasts, and social media posts. This will not only make your content more visually appealing but also cater to different learning styles.
4. Consistency is key: In order for your content marketing efforts to be successful, consistency is crucial. Develop a consistent posting schedule so that your audience knows when they can expect new content from you.
5. Incorporate SEO best practices: Utilize search engine optimization (SEO) techniques in your blog posts or website pages by including relevant keywords in your headlines, subheadings, and throughout the body of the text. This will make it easier for search engines like Google to find and rank your content.
CONCLUSION
In today’s digital age, content marketing has become a powerful tool for businesses looking to engage with their target audience and drive conversions. By implementing the strategies discussed in this article, you can effectively create and distribute valuable content that resonates with your audience and drives results.

I realize a lot of the current fandom came to the game after several patches or several *years* since release. So a lot of you might not know the history and how things used to be different.
Now, I personally have very strong feelings about the direction in which FFXV was taken post-launch, but this isn't the point of this post.
The point is to maybe make some newer people in the fandom realize that things used to be very different and hopefully make some of you guys learn something cool about a game you love.
FFXV had several core philosophies that were new, and brave, and really cool, and some of them ended up backfiring really badly. It endeavored to be a multimedia project (the multitude of associated media wasn't just "they weren't able to fit it in the game"!). It was intended to be a live service game (which feels very disconnected from the meaning of that term now, but it was already pretty weird at the time. Tabata, the game's director, seemed to have a very different idea of what it meant from the rest of the world, and to him it meant free monthly updates for multiple years alongside paid DLC). It also was intended to take the players' feedback into account in order to become the best game it could be. That's why we got a huge poll asking for what to add to the game, and that's why a ton of changes were made to the game's main story and content after release. That's also why the original experience is nearly lost to time now.
The initial few patches were mostly a continuation of the game's development. Stuff the devs hadn't managed to do in time or that they thought needed to be better. As time went on, though, more and more updates were made that changed the game's identity in significant ways.
One of the major ideas behind FFXV's storytelling was that it was always intended to be subjective. The main game was Noct's story. You had main characters leaving, you had a lot of things not being explained, a lot of stuff you had to piece together from scraps of info. You were intended to experience the story the way Noctis did. The DLC and other media were supposed to fill those gaps for you. What happened in Insomnia while we were gone? What did the other party members get up to while they weren't with us? You were supposed to get this information from different narrators, different viewpoints.
Think about it. Noctis is only twenty, he was never explicitly told what his destiny would involve, he was never taught how to do this. He's confused, he's terrified, he's just trying to keep going one step at a time through most of the game. It was immersive and impactful when you shared some of those feelings as a player.
The information was there. In other media (Kingsglaive, Brotherhood, A Kings's Tale, Parting Ways, Platinum Demo, eventually all the DLC), but also in little scraps around the game's world. Radio transmissions, Cosmogony books, scraps of newspapers and documents, the environmental storytelling of the nights creeping into your days, the ruined walls of Zegnautus Keep. It was in the context. The subtext. The cross-referencing and theory crafting we, the fandom, did.
You would be surprised just how much of the lore added in DLC and updates elicited no reaction from us back then. It was "duh". It was things we already knew. Things we'd pieced together, discussed, and written fics for months in advance.
Then the Internet did its thing and the loudest voices the devs could hear were the people who didn't love the game, who didn't want to put in the effort, who didn't want to think about it too hard. And instead of only affecting the subsequent content, it also changed the game we used to know.
The random interactable lore dumps they added to many locations with no explanation or reason to be there. The bestiary and character infos (which is a great feature but contributes to making players wait for lore to be fed to them rather than think for themselves). The horrible, disgusting powerpoint presentation they inserted into the middle of the Shiva conversation on the train that just pauses mid-dialogue to offer you an extensive infodump and then continues as if that never happened. There's a lot of things like this.
Did you know the original Ch13 was a horror game? The Ring's spells were tuned in such a way that they incentivised sneaking. It wasn't even mandatory then, you could still bruteforce your way through just by learning the simple counter timing for the Ring. But until you did, you got a precious few minutes of feeling terrified of the MTs patrolling the corridors. People complained that it "took you out of the action" and "interrupted the pace". Oh, do you mean how Noctis was INTERRUPTED by suddenly being all alone, in an unknown, hostile place, trying to rush to save his friend but not get himself killed? It was impactful. It was memorable. Now ch13 feels like a bad joke, Ardyn's attempts at taunts triggering a minute late when you've already moved on from the corpses of the MTs he's warning you about.
Do you know how it felt when Insomnia was a quarter of its current game size and had barely any content? It was rushed, yes. But that was the tragedy of it. The reason why it was so successful at conveying how this felt to Noctis, to the others who'd been waiting for him for a decade. To be reunited only to die. To be robbed of all your freedom in favor of playing the role you were meant for.
Did you realize the entire boss rush at the end is a Royal Edition addition? It's too long. It feels disjointed and at odds with the mood of the story. You're supposed to feel helpless. You're supposed to despair. Instead you get each party member delivering an over-the-top finisher move while yelling extremely cheesy and out of character lines about how much they love their friend. We always knew how much they loved him. It was in their presence. In their willingness to die for him. In the way they didn't look away when they knew they were about to lose him. In the stilted dialogue and awkward attempts at humor, trying to recapture their lost innocence.
This game used to punch you in the gut as it ended. It used to make you feel like you were watching a dear friend walk to his death and had to live with that, with the knowledge that for all its injustice and cruelty, this was "for the best".
Go out. Get the 1.0 mod (which I was consulted for as the person who actually played the old versions and resident modding community grandma but did not touch any of the actual mod making). Get an old disk copy for your console. See this game at its strongest. Experience the version of the story that forces you to grapple with the tragedy and doesn't sugarcoat or distract you from the ugly parts.

Crack Ship of the Week back again with another post! (After nearly an entire month) Lately I've been working a lot of 10+ hour shifts at my current job, along with helping out at my family's restaurant, updating my résumé, and searching for other jobs to advance my culinary career, so I've been really busy, sorry for not posting in quite a while. On the plus side, I've managed to network with some industry professionals higher up the ladder, and I was recently contracted by a personal chef agency!
Without further ado, let's bring out
This Week's Crackship:
Party Poison (Danger Days) × Johnny Silverhand (Cyberpunk)
Ship Name(s):
Poison Hand, Dim Mak (see notes below for explanation), Rockerboys, Ronin (see notes below for explanation)
Why It's Crack:
No interactions (separate canons)
Why It's Cracked:
Canons share many similarities. Both are cyberpunk series set in an alternate universe California in the near future (now partially set in the near past, as well), following a war or series of wars that negatively impacted the United States' geopolitical power, costing it territory that would be filled in by an independent city-state (Battery City in Danger Days, and Night City in Cyberpunk) and the resultant power vacuum being filled in by megacorporations (Better Living Industries in Danger Days and Arasaka in Cyberpunk. Like Arasaka, Better Living also seems to be a multinational corporation with at least some notable amount of presence in Japan, hence Better Living having had a .jp domain during the Danger Days album's promotional period, as well as using both English and Japanese writing in much of its content). Crossover potential abounds
Both fill very similar niches in their respective stories (renegade rockers who rebel against corporate overreach with the power of punk rock, and occasionally this gun they found. They both became the exemplar of their respective series' spin on the "rebel with a cause" archetype [Killjoys in Danger Days, and Rockerboys in Cyberpunk])
Both lived and operated in similar timeframes, not taking into account Johnny's engram whom stars in Cyberpunk 2077. Party was active in the 2010s up until his death in 2019, and Johnny was active throughout the 2000s up until his death in 2023)
Both may also be war veterans (Johnny is a confirmed war veteran who deserted the US Military in protest of the government's corruption and purposeful destabilization of Central and South America. Party Poison may have been one of the many Killjoys to take part in the Analog Wars, though this isn't confirmed iirc)
Both died a similar death, to somewhat similar people, for similar reasons. Both raided the main HQ of their respective antagonistic megacorps in order to rescue an abducted loved one (surrogate little sister "The Girl" in Party's case, and former lover Alt Cunningham in Johnny's case), during which they were brutally gunned down by their corporate foes' bald and sociopathic enforcer (Korse and Adam Smasher, respectively)
Both dye their hair. Party Poison's hair is dyed red (natural color unknown afaik), and Johnny Silverhand dyes his hair black, with it being naturally blond.
Notes
"Dim Mak", also known as "Poison Hand" or "Touch of Death" is a purported system of acupressure-based martial arts said to have originated in ancient China and been culturally imported to Japan. Count Juan Raphael Dante, an eccentric martial arts practitioner who taught karate in the 60s and 70s, also claimed to be able to teach Dim Mak to prospective students, infamously advertising this alleged service in the back page ad spaces in Marvel comic books of the time. This likely was seen at times by Gerard Way, an avid comic fan, as he titled one of the songs in the wider Danger Days multimedia project as Black Dragon Fighting Society, which shares an identical name with the martial arts organization founded by Count Dante. "Dim Mak" is also the name of a record label founded by Steve Aoki, who made a remix of the famous My Chemical Romance song "Welcome to the Black Parade". This fact is also relevant to the ship as Dim Mak distributes punk rock music, with punk rock being the primary genre performed by both Party Poison and Johnny Silverhand.
"Ronin" was chosen a ship name due to their shared status as outlaw warriors, similar to (but generally less shitty towards bystanders than) the ronin of Sengoku and early Edo-period Japan. Party is an outlaw vigilante who fights against BLI, whereas Johnny is a former US soldier who deserted and fled prosecution by moving to Night City. In addition, this name was chosen in reference to Johnny's band, Samurai. Keanu Reeves, who portrays Johnny in Cyberpunk 2077, also starred in the 2013 American remake of The 47 Ronin (unfortunately)

The SWG Hosts Tolkien Fanworks
Fandom creators may be looking for alternative and additional archives, in light of the multiple critiques currently being made of the OTW and AO3.
This is not intended as commentary on the many issues raised about the OTW and AO3 in recent weeks, although an unofficial position of our organization (as a small archive) has always been that it is ideal to archive your fanworks across multiple sites, and multiple options for archiving should exist. Rather, this post will provide information about who we are and the fanworks we accept so that Tolkien fanworks creators can decide if our archive is a viable option for them.
What is the SWG?
The Silmarillion Writers' Guild was founded in 2005 by @dawnfelagund, and our archive opened in 2007. Our mission is to provide an online archive and community for anyone interested in The Silmarillion that values civility and openness in discussing and making fanworks about Tolkien's legendarium. You can read the SWG's complete mission here.
We currently archive just over 5,000 fanworks by 414 creators. In addition, we offer monthly creative challenges, publish a weekly newsletter that features research by our members, maintain a reference library and beta-reader directory, compile a listing of Tolkien fandom events, and host events such as live readings, fanfiction book clubs, and collaborative creative sessions on our Discord.
What fanworks does the SWG accept?
The SWG is an archive for Silmarillion-based fanworks. We try to define the term "Silmarillion-based" as broadly and inclusively as possible so that we can welcome as many fanworks on our site as possible while maintaining our purpose as a Silmarillion group. Significant use of a source, character or character group, location, or time period featured in The Silmarillion, as long as it is not also covered in detail in The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings, qualifies a work for our site. Our detailed FAQ on how we define "Silmworks" can be found here.
We accept crossover, alternate universe (AU), and multi-age fanworks, as long as a significant component meets the "Silm fanwork" definition above.
Non-Silmarillion Tolkien Fanworks. We recently added a section to our site called Beyond the Silmarillion, which accepts all fanworks based on Tolkien's writings or Tolkien-based adaptations (films, shows, games, etc.) SWG members become eligible to post in this section once they have archived five fanworks or 10,000 words with us, whichever comes first.
Types of Fanwork We Archive. The SWG currently accepts the following types of fanwork: writing (fiction, nonfiction, plays/screenplays, and poetry), artwork, audio, video, link collections, playlists, series, and multimedia fanworks that include two or more of the formats above. If you need to archive a fanwork that doesn't match any of the above, the site moderators will help you archive your work with us, if it's possible to do so. With the exception of video, we host all fanworks on our server. (Videos must be posted to a video hosting site.)
Ratings and Adult Content. We accept all ratings of fanwork. The only adult-rated fanworks we cannot accept are images or videos that include "graphic depictions of sexual activity, sexualized nudity, and any representation of an underage character in a sexual situation" because these fanworks violate the Terms of Service of our webhost.
AI-Generated Fanworks. We do not accept fanworks entirely or partially produced through prompting an AI generator. Our AI policy can be found here.
What are the conduct expectations for SWG members?
Simply put, the SWG "is a positive-focused, open-minded space." We require civility in all interactions conducted on our archive and affiliated social sites. The SWG is a moderated site and community, so we do hold our members to our expectations. You can read our complete Site Etiquette and Terms of Service here.
How is the SWG governed?
The SWG was founded and is currently run by Dawn Felagund, assisted by a team of moderators. Active moderators are Russandol, Grundy, Lyra, Saelind, and Janeways; they make the ultimate decisions concerning the archive. Other volunteers aid other tasks needed to run the site and community and may contribute to decision-making as well.
The SWG is not a democracy in that we do not hold formal elections and there are certain aspects of our mission that we are unwilling to change, even under majority preference. However, we consider member feedback as part of our decision-making process whenever possible—especially with regard to decisions on controversial or impactful issues—and some of the policies and features we've implemented over the years have come about by member request.
Members who need assistance, have a concern, or wish to make a suggestion can contact the moderators directly or use the #town-hall channel in the SWG's Discord.
We aim (and are generally able) to reply to all communications from members within twenty-four hours.
Because we are a small organization with relatively few decision makers, we can generally implement change relatively quickly. Our recent AI policy offers a good example of how governance in our group works. The issue of AI-generated fanworks was raised in a discussion among the site and Discord moderators on May 5. In this discussion, the moderators shared information and came to a consensus on how they wanted AI-generated fanworks handled on the SWG. Dawn drafted an AI policy, which was put before the other moderators for feedback on May 9. By May 13, the site admins had researched and implemented a block on AI scraper bots using all known strategies. Also on May 13, the AI policy was opened for public comment through May 26, during which time members and other interested parties shared suggestions via email with the moderators and in discussion in the #town-hall channel on Discord. During this time, the draft policy was revised twice using those suggestions. On May 28, the finalized policy was announced on the SWG's site and social networks, and relevant documents on the site were updated to reflect and link to the new policy.
How does the SWG handle racism and other attacks on groups that have been historically marginalized in fandom and beyond?
As stated in our Site Etiquette, as an organization, we recognize that fandom and the Tolkien fandom specifically has historically been and continues to be hostile to and dismissive of fans from marginalized groups, including fans who are Black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC); women; LGBTQIA+; and fans with disabilities. We believe strongly that, as a fandom organization that has benefited from the status quo, we must also be part of the solution to ensure that these inequities do not persist.
Specific solutions we have implemented on our group include:
Our Site Etiquette and Terms of Service strictly forbids "[a]ttacks on other members based on personal characteristics (such as race, color, religion, ethnicity, nationality, age, sexuality, gender identity or expression, disability, or medical condition)" and states that "[a]busive or derogatory behavior will not be tolerated at any time or in any part of the SWG. We do not welcome or allow any content in our group that is designed to be hurtful or insulting." While we generally observe a three-strike policy for rule violations, "[i]f moderators feel that someone is acting deliberately to harm SWG and/or its members … we reserve the right to suspend that person's account without prior warning." Our hope with this policy is to allow members who mess up the opportunity to improve while also having the ability to remove bad actors immediately.
We currently require fanworks on our site to be correctly labeled with warnings, including fanworks that include "in-universe intolerance," such as racism, homophobia, and misogyny. Creators have the option of labeling a fanwork as "Choose Not to Warn" if they do not want to label their fanwork. Our ratings and warnings policy is here.
We maintain an inclusivity focus group that we consult on policies and issues related to inclusivity or that may have a disproportionate impact on some groups of fans. Any SWG member who is part of a group historically marginalized in fandom is welcome to join this focus group and participate when and how they feel comfortable. Any member can request the input of the inclusivity focus group on a moderator decision.
If I want to archive my work with you, what is the best way to do this?
First, review the Site Etiquette and Terms of Service, and if you believe our group is a good fit for you and your work, register for an SWG account.
A moderator will approve your account before you can begin posting or commenting on the site. We aim to approve new accounts within twenty-four hours of registration; typically, it takes much less time than that to be approved.
Once you are approved, you can begin posting your fanworks! We do ask that new members who are archiving many older works with us to backdate these fanworks and exclude them from the Most Recent list to allow creators posting new work to have that spotlight.
Questions on how to use the site, SWG policies, or how best to archive past works with us are welcome via the site's contact form, by emailing the moderators at [email protected], or reaching out to the mods via any of the SWG's social media.

there's an interesting disconnect between the user experience for a pokemon game and the way they're developed
the end user for a pokemon game is unlikely to view pokemon as unique in the way that the game wants the user to interact with it - to a user, all pokemon are nonunique, your beldum is no different to any other wild beldum, and if you were to do another playthrough where you captured another beldum, the gameplay experience would be largely the same
the games try to manage this with a few things, personalities and IVs come to mind especially, but these generally don't impact the average user's experience very much (the actual performance of most pokemon in game is absolutely sufficient to win the game, they're pretty easy games) and largely serves to frustrate high level players, user created content, or extreme challenges
Pokemon, as a corporately owned multimedia franchise, probably doesn't particularly want this issue to exist - after all, subscription services such as Pokemon Home exist specifically to allow the saving of specific pokemon, but, realistically, not enough is actually done to solve this problem, if they were to actually try to
any attempt to would absolutely ruin the user experience, don't get me wrong, but it would absolutely be possible to address this issue to some extent, though, with how the series has developed into now having over 1 kilopokemon, such methods are likely to lead to an issue where some pokemon are prioritised over others - especially with the strict deadlines and rushed nature of recent media that are largely representative of growing issues with the nature of such a multimedia franchise as it grows larger and larger
ultimately, I suspect that Pokemon won't ever find a way around this problem, and hope that it never tries to, but yeah, it's just an interesting observation

Measuring success and tracking progress towards your goals is a crucial aspect of any content marketing strategy. Without proper tracking, it can be difficult to determine if your efforts are effective or if you need to make adjustments.

In this article, you will learn about the impact of audio description, and how enhancing video accessibility helps to people with visual impairment.
For many with visual impairments, this can lead to disconnection as they miss out on the crucial visual elements that bring a story to their life.
This is where the power of audio description steps in.
Audio description is a groundbreaking technology that provides a spoken narration of the visual elements in movies and TV shows.

What Is an Audio Description?
Audio description provides a spoken narration of visual elements in media, including movies, television shows, and live performances. This service helps blind or visually impaired individuals better understand and enjoy the content, enhancing their overall experience.
It vividly portrays actions, images, gestures, and settings, enabling visually impaired viewers to follow the flow of events, grasp the emotional character undertones, and appreciate the storyline nuances.
Besides, adding audio descriptions also benefits distracted viewers or viewers who find it difficult to focus on the film’s visual aspects. The additional narrative context and richness enhance the viewing experience for a broader audience, making it an indispensable tool for truly inclusive media.
Understanding the Types of Audio Description for Visual Media
Audio description comes in various forms, each tailored to different types of content and specific viewing needs.
1. Standard Audio Description
This is the most widely used format. It delivers concise narrations of key visual elements during natural pauses in dialogue. It ensures a seamless and uninterrupted viewing experience, allowing the narrative to flow smoothly without disrupting the content’s rhythm.
2. Extended Audio Description
Extended audio descriptions offer a more detailed description and narration for intricate visuals or fast-paced action. It goes beyond the basics, providing in-depth explanations of the setting, characters, and actions to give viewers a fuller understanding of the visual subtleties crucial to the storyline.
3. Internet and Interactive Media Audio Description
These descriptions make web pages and multimedia content accessible by covering visual elements such as images and graphics. They thus make digital content more inclusive for users who are blind or use screen readers or other assistive technologies.
They ensure fully accessible pre-recorded multimedia content by meeting essential accessibility standards like the W3C WCAG, Section 508, and EU regulations.
4. Live Audio Description
These descriptions are more in real-time settings like theater performances or live sports events, offering detailed costumes and scene changes or field actions. Like sports commentators, trained narrators describe actions on stage or the field, focusing more on visual details.
The live audio description brings immediacy and engagement to live events for those who might otherwise miss out on the visual aspects.
Each audio description type plays a vital role in making content accessible and enhancing the viewing experience for visually impaired audiences.
Six Advantages of Audio Description Services
By providing detailed explanations of visual elements, audio description ensures that everyone can fully engage with and appreciate the content. Accessibility for visually impaired individuals prevents their exclusion from films, television, and other visual media.
Here are some critical advantages of audio description accessibility:
Enhanced Accessibility: Audio description significantly expands the reach of your content, making it accessible to a large audience of visually impaired individuals.
Increased Versatility: Audio descriptions add flexibility to how your content is consumed. Audiences can enjoy your material by listening while multitasking.
Improved Language Acquisition: Audio description helps with language development in individuals with autism. Linking words with visual elements enhances vocabulary, comprehension, and overall language skills.
Better Understanding of Social Cues: Audio description helps individuals with autism better understand the emotional and social cues conveyed through facial expressions and body language.
Enhanced Auditory Learning: For many, auditory learning helps absorb the essential visual elements that may be unknowingly missed. Audio description enhances the auditory learning experience, making it easier to retain information and grasp complex topics.
Legal Compliance: In many cases, audio description is legally needed to ensure content accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Failing to comply with these accessibility standards can lead to costly legal repercussions.
By incorporating audio description into your web content accessibility guidelines, you improve accessibility and affirm your commitment to diversity and equal opportunity for all.
How to Create Audio Description?
Creating audio descriptions is a meticulous process, and following these five essential steps helps truly enhance accessibility:
Step 1: Conduct a Comprehensive Content Analysis of All Visual Elements
Begin by thoroughly reviewing your video and identifying all significant visual elements that require explanation. This includes actions, facial expressions, scene transitions, on-screen text, sound effects, and other components contributing to the story or understanding.
Step 2: Draft a Clear and Concise Script
The next step is to craft an easy-to-understand script with a video description of important visual elements. It should seamlessly blend with the existing audio track without technical jargon. Use the present tense to create audio descriptions while maintaining a sense of immediacy. Break down complex scenes into smaller, digestible segments, and keep the script engaging and informative.
Step 3: Record the Audio with the Help of a Professional Voice Artist
Engage a skilled voice artist experienced in audio description to record your script. Their clear and articulate delivery and descriptive narration in the desired pace, tone, and style enhance the listening experience.
Step 4: Edit and Synchronize the Audio Description As Appropriate
Carefully edit the recorded audio description to align with the video timing and fit into the pauses in dialogue and background sounds. Review the extended description script for inconsistencies, errors, or unclear sections and make necessary adjustments for a smooth and coherent flow.
Step 5: Conduct Rigorous Quality Assurance
Evaluate the final audio description to ensure clarity, accuracy, and effectiveness in conveying information. Seek feedback from visually impaired individuals or consult accessibility experts to identify potential issues or missing essential visual audio elements. Revise as needed to guarantee that the audio description meets the highest standards of quality and accessibility.
The Evolution of Audio Description Technology
With the rapid advancement of technology, audio description has seen significant progress, enhancing its effectiveness and reach. Modern tools, innovative software, and refined methods have revolutionized how audio descriptions are created and delivered.
These technological advancements are not just about convenience—they enable individuals with visual impairments to engage with and participate in society.
Essential Tools for Creating High-Quality Audio Descriptions
A meticulously crafted script is the foundation of effective audio description. Some tools offer robust scriptwriting capabilities, including automatic formatting, collaboration features, and version control. These capabilities are indispensable for creating precise and accurate scripts and critical for delivering a seamless and engaging audio description experience.
Once the script is ready, record and refine the audio using tools to capture audio recording, editing, and mastering audio. These applications ensure the final audio description is clear, professional, and fully immersive, enhancing the viewer’s experience.
Accurate transcription is another crucial component of high-quality audio description, and some tools offer fast and reliable transcription services. This allows creators to focus on producing high-quality audio descriptions without wasting time on manual transcription, ensuring that every detail of entertainment audio description is captured accurately.
Future of Audio Description and Accessibility
The future of audio description is promising and evolving rapidly. As technology advances, the quality and accessibility of audio-described content are set to reach new heights. Innovations in AI and machine learning are paving the way for more efficient and accurate creation of audio descriptions, making it easier than ever to ensure that content is accessible to all.
These advancements mean that audio description will become an even more integral part of media creation. However, technology alone is not enough to achieve true accessibility. Collaboration is key. For audio description to reach its full potential, content creators, accessibility experts, and the visually impaired community must work together.
By sharing knowledge, expertise, and experiences, we can drive innovation and make media more inclusive for everyone. This collaborative effort is essential in ensuring that the audio description meets the technical requirements and resonates with the audience it serves.
Audio description is vital to inclusivity, making video content accessible to everyone. It allows visually impaired individuals to engage fully with films and television, fostering a sense of belonging and participation.
