Astris Mudd is a former Lady of House Mudd. She was the youngest child of Tomas Mudd and Arliss Butterwell with three older brothers, Tristifer, Merrick, and Ardan.

Astris was sent to court by her father following Robert’s Rebellion after she declared her love for the stable master’s son. Her brother Merrick escorted her to King’s Landing where he was knighted against his father’s wishes.

While in King’s Landing Astris befriended Tyrion Lannister despite their fathers’ ill impression of each other. She also brought along her childhood friend and handmaiden Nella.

House Mudd was nearly wiped out generations before and had slowly been rebuilding ever since. Tomas was very passionate about restoring the family name. Arliss Mudd died young, when Astris was only five. Not long after her death Tomas began considering potential suitors for his only daughter.

While in King’s Landing Astris made it her goal to strike a friendship with The Hound after hearing stories from the other girls about how frightening he was, and with enough patience and persistence met her goal. This eventually developed into a secret relationship. As her father grew impatient with her refusals of any suitors she concocted a plan with Royhan Coldwater, seventh son of Lord Royce Coldwater of Coldwater Burn. Royhan has been carrying on a secret relationship with Nella, and the two agreed that the best way to appease their families and be able to continue their relationships would be to marry one another for convenience.

Astris frequently spoke of leaving King’s Landing and settling somewhere quiet in the Riverlands, far away from the fuss of highborn society. Sandor brushed this off and a silly day dream best not to dwell on. Regardless, she remained ready to run at any time, and it paid off the night of The Battle of The Black Water when Sandor decided to leave King’s Landing.
