This might be controversial but…like the vindication I've felt when Mu Qing and Feng Xin spelled it out for Xie Lian that Hua Cheng is creepy as hell in book 6? I was thinking the same since the start and I felt like I was the only one. Unreliable narrator and toxic shipping are fun but genuinely everyone seems to think that HuaLian is like a "goalsss" kind of relationship in the fandom, super cute and romantic but uh? If it wasn't the main ship, everyone would likely hate Hua Cheng for being a creep, let's be real. I felt like I was living in a bizarro world until those two finally spoke about it. Not that I had any doubt he would not turn creepy. I have believed since the start that Hua Cheng picked the colour red so he could use all his red flags as clothes lol He was always so... icky.

Every time I see someone questioning "why Mu Qing was do resentful of Xie Lian" and coming to some fantastic conclusion I have to grit my teeth, because the answer is obvious.

Mu Qing came from poverty. How could he not resent Xie Lian, even if he wished to be friends with him?

He was in a drastically different situation than Feng Xin, who was sure in his position as the prince's bodyguard - it was guaranteed that he'll become someone of importance when XL ascends to the throne.

Mu Qing was a low-born servant - his whole life was at XL's whim. XL being a "good person" didn't mean shit - it's easy being good when you have everything going for you. It's easy to say you want to help the "common people" when you have the means to do so and little awareness of how complex life outside of the palace is.

From MQ's point of view (because he didn't have insight into XL's mind) XL was playing a hero (like the French royalty playing the simple cottage life) because he could and people loved him for it.

There was jealousy there, sure, but MQ wasn't jealous of how good XL was - he was jealous of how XL came from conditions that allowed him to "be good" and how XL was praised for it when it really cost hims very little.

Xie Lian could have been the best person in the world, and Mu Qing would still side-eye him, because someone with so much power over you is never just "a friend". Friendship means standing on a level field, and no matter how Xie Lian felt about Mu Qing, they have never seen eye to eye when they were humans.

VERSION 1.

Lang Qianqiu ascends alone and, later, has a very awkward conversation with his Guoshi about maybe choosing his master (and uncle Hua Cheng) as Middle Court officials...? Guoshi? uh. why not?

XL: yeah so im a banished god. twice banished. for reasons! don't worry about it

HC: it might be possibly more awkard if you make me a Middle Court official

VERSION 2.

the three of them ascend together — the event is very destructive! Heaven ah. breaks? a little! but there's three of them, so that's. that's an explanation. for that.

it's a such lovely story — the crown prince of Yong'an, has ascended together with his two mentors after defeating the Green Ghost Qi Rong!

Xie Lian does not take off the mask. he just. doesn't! he means to, he thinks about it, he intends to do it, but enough time passes that it becomes awkward — Feng Xin and Mu Qing have introduced themselves to him! it would be just weird at this point...

Hua Cheng supports this wholly. Feng Xin and Mu Qing have no idea why this one guy in red hates them — well, there is that one guy in red who hates them, but there's no way in hell he ascended to Heaven!

Jun Wu realizes who Xie Lian is imidateley. he and Xie Lian have a conversation in which he agrees to allow for Xie Lian's stay in Heaven to remain anonymous — though he is a little preoccupied with stopping Heaven from falling down to really have time for plotting

a great opportunity for fun logistics-of-how-was-heaven-made-actually worldbuilding!

Jun Wu does not know who Hua Cheng is. Xie Lian doesn't tell him. it's funnier this way

He Xuan does know who, exactly, has ascended (again) and struggles not to laugh. he is one of the very few people well-informed enough to know how fucking hilarous this is

Lang Qianqiu is just happy his two mentors have ascended with him, really! very happy. Heaven seems to have been a little. uh. damaged. he'd hate to need to deal with it on his own!

Qi Rong points out there is a fucking Devastation right there isn't he plotting things also?

Hua Cheng magic girl transformation into ghost king regalia, says some things about Xianle/Yong'an relations, and being a soldier while he was alive that mostly boil down to listen to what your Guoshi teaches, he's a wonderful amazing person the best in the world, the smartest, the most beautiful —

Lang Qianqiu finds that reassuring because that's just how Hua Cheng normaly acts, see, he's clearly here because he has a crush on Guoshi! it's not about revange or Yong'an at all, the man is just in love

Lang Qianqiu has some sort of a hero speech, very serious vow to be a good king and a good person and follow Guoshi's teachings! Xie Lian is very proud

they defeat Qi Rong with the power of friendship — and then the three of them fucking ascend

Xie Lian wants to leave, so bad — it feels like this situation would become a whole lot simpler if he and Hua Cheng weren't there, but he can't just leave Lang Qianqiu to this mess....

if Xie Lian leaves, so will Lang Qianqiu, really, if Heaven is to good for such an honorabile and good and just person as his Guoshi then maybe there is something wrong with Heaven (Hua Cheng is so proud)

plot happens: heaven might fall down so we should deal with that! dealing with that is mostly a logistics thing. also, a war between realms might be around the corner.

Absolutely insane metaphor to use, Xie Lian. "Sworn brothers together forevermore" is exactly what you two are and what you could use to describe the shattering of a poetic ideal.

But you, with your princely education of thousands of works of literature...you go "I'm the hero and Mu Qing is the beauty in a match made in heaven and yet we have parted and it's not for a cool reason."

I JUST....?!?!?!!! What are you TALKING about?!?? Like I get that Xie Lian is gay (maybe bi), but it's hard to read this as anything but him thinking, at the VERY LEAST, "Mu Qing is beautiful" ?! Like "yes I could use brothers in arms as a metaphor but Mu Qing is very pretty so-"?!

So is it that he was like "Mu Qing is so pretty. If he was a lady he'd be a real beauty and I could marry him :) haha. But we're both men. And we've taken vows. :) but that is my go-to metaphor for us, the first thing that springs to mind."

The most simple explanation is that he has a crush on Mu Qing but is too fucking dumb to realize (the true queer experience).

I also want an explanation for the "I'll break up with you" conversation with Feng Xin. Is this some kind of common phrase that doesn't translate well? Or is it as fucking gay as it seems?

TGCF Avatar Au

Okay guys bear with me here. Just sharing some loose thoughts on a Heaven Official's Blessing Avatar universe coupled with excerpts from our Sketchbook.

Okay so first of all, obviously Xie Lian is the Avatar because the avatars are loved and hated by the people they safe etc. But I thought for this, it's more of an idea where the avatar has to roam the Earth until they fulfill "their purpose" so Xie Lian has been partaking in different cultures as different men (Fang Xin style) for over a hundred years trying to find what he is here for.

Of course one day, he meets the last dragon that has survived all this time by taking the form of a man. Cheesy? I don't care.

They can bond over being hoarders and being centuries old/hunted by humanity.

Hua Cheng would definitely start off cheeky and "dangerous" but you know Xie Lian - he sees right through it.

Okay so yes I have a whole plot in mind that involves Pei Ming and Wudu and spirits and whatnot but that's not what we are here for today. Let's just skip to Feng Xin(Fire Bender) and Mu Qing(Water Bender) : basically, Feng Xin's family line has been entrusted with watching over and caring for a temple dedicated to the avatar/ the avatar's return but as time went on people stopped believing in the avatar but Feng Xin kept watching over the temple anyway - waiting. Mu Qing, on the other hand, believes spirituality is leaving their world and that man needs to fight for himself and not depend on heroes and legends.

Side note: I can't remember if it's a head canon or legit because im delusional but I like to pretend the Northern Water Tribe is so high and mighty and looks down on the Southern Water Tribe. Anyway, Mu Qing is def from the South but pretends to be from the North.

Okay while I'm here, I also want to mention that I loved Nan Feng and Fu Yao so much that in every AU I make, Nan Feng is Feng Xin's little brother and likewise with Fu Yao and Mu Qing. Because like... them as big brothers on top of everything else they have to deal with? Cry my eyes out.

Feng Xin curses himself - he got distracted and now the god usually seated across of him is gone. He watched him intensely the whole evening and spotted how slurry his words began to be, how heavier his lids got, stupid giggles leaving his mouth more and more often. He's pretty sure his drink has been spiked. It was shitty but manageable as long as he's around - Feng Xin would walk him home safely and the next day they would argue and he would promise to just leave him there drugged and vulnerable next time.

But when someone actually snitches him away Feng Xin is running around the heavenly capital, like a dog sniffing air. It is foolish to expect a kidnapper to lead his victim down main streets, so he dives into small alleys between houses, lighting his way with a small ball of spiritual energy.

He quickly spots a flick of a long ponytail and gives it a chase.

The man next to Mu Qing has no face. After countless attempts on the god's life, such details were no longer meaningful, but there was no need to worry that he would go unpunished - Feng Xin's fists would leave a legible signature.

He breathes heavily, wipes the sweat from his forehead, and spits on the ground where the battered body lies. Bastard.

My Qing is staying next to him slightly swaying. He's wearing a sheepish smile and had been glowing ever since Feng Xin had snatched him from Middle Court deity's hands, rejoicing either at the appearance of the general or at the spilled blood.

As Feng Xin walks to him he leans over a wall behind him and looks up at his face.

"Oh so you've beaten up some baaaad guys. My hero! Do you want me to kiss you like some saved beauty?" he slurs, his sarcasm suddenly sounding playful.

Feng Xin is exasperated "Shut up. Wha-"

Mu Qing sways again and warm lips are pressed into his. It's chaste and it doesn't last long but it leaves him breathless, head spinning. Wow. Is the shit he was spiked with that strong?

Mu Qing's arm rests on his chest right above his heart. God leans in tiredly and rests his cheek against it too. "I'm dizzy" he mutters against the other's body.

Hesitantly Feng Xin lifts his hand to stroke god's hair soothingly.

"Let's get you home, general."

This is just me explaining some things that is in the description of the book/story.

Let me get you guys straight. This a basically Hercules x tgcf au and the owner of the au is @purplew who let me write about this story and it very happy that I'm making this and I have been looking forward for this story and some of the characters will out of character to fit or some of the characters won't have to be out of character but some will...I think.

I watched the movie for the idea and what I think it will be good for it and whole bunch of things and I'm writing this at night on my phone! So that's even more great!

I'm really excited about this! It been over a month that I got permission to do this but I never a have an idea for it until now! I'm happy that I'm finally able to type it for you guys so you can all read it! I'm very grateful for this!

But anyways let begin our story!

A story about Lang Qiu qian as Hercules!

And his adventures and how he save his home and the people he loves from Jun wu! Let's the story begin!

"Long ago in the land of Ancient China there was a golden age of powerful gods and extraordinary hero's across the lands of China. The greatest and strongest of them all was Lang Qiu Qian! But what is the measure of a true hero?  That's what our story is—." The narrator was stopped mid sentence by a muse."Will you listen to him?" Said a man with long beautiful hair that is up in the tight bun with some bangs on the side of his face and will have an annoyed face with his arms crossed over his chest. The person next to him has long hair just like him but with a high ponytail but some of his hair is out of the ponytail and has bangs across his face. There is another person as well. He has long hair that is up in a bun and the rest of it loose and he has his fan in his hand with a hand on his hip. Last but not least is another guy who has the most beautiful black hair , a very high ponytail and one long bang on the right side of his face.

"His making the story sound like some tragedy!" Said Shi Qingxuan while putting one of his hands on his hip and the other one on his forehead and let out a dramatic sigh. "Light up dude." Mu Qing said then uncrossed his arms. "We take it from here darling~." Shi Qingxuan said smiling softly and now he has his hands on his hips. "You go boys." The narrator said with his deep and monologue voice in existence. (A/N: just imagine groovy music playing in the background.) "We are the Muses." Mu Qing said while the rest of them posed next to him and while he raised his arms in a pose. "Gods of the arts and proclaimers of heroes." Feng Xin continued from Mu Qing words.

"Hero's like Lang Qiu Qian." Xuan said while removing his arms across from his chest and walked next to the rest of them. "You mean Lang-QiuQian!" Shi Qingxuan said dramatically while fanning his fan back in and forth with his left hand. Then he walked towards a painting of Lang Qiu Qian and stood next to it. "Oooo~ I would like to make some sweet music with~." He says with a smile coming from his lips. Then Feng Xin glances at him while saying. "Our story actually began long before Lang Qiu Qian." "Many eons ago.." He Xuan continued off from Feng Xin. "Ooh!" Shi Qingxuan sang in a high tone. "Back when the world was new." Mu Qing sang and went towards others and formed a line. "The plant earth was down on its luck." He Xuan sang and Shi Qingxuan followed them in the line and began to walk with them in a line and while they walked in the line there were paintings of gods and goddesses.

"And everywhere gigantic brutes called titans ran up!" Shi Qingxuan sang and the rest of them walked towards a painting of the titans and they were moving and they were throwing stones and rocks and ruining the earth. "It was a nasty place." He Xzan explained in a singing voice. "There was a mess whatever you stepped!" He Xuan continued to explain while singing. "Where chaos reigned." Mu Qing sang after He Xuan while continuing the story. "And the earthquakes and volcanoes never slept." Feng Xin continued after him while still singing. "Woo! Say it girlfriend!" Shi Qingxuan explained.

Then they were not by the painting any more; they were in a different area of the room. There is a painting of Tai Yong'an.(A/N: Not his office name because we don't know his real name yet and same thing with his wife.) "Then along came Tai Yong'an!" They all sang in unison while pointing up at a painting of Tai Yong'an who is Lang Qiu Qian's father. Then the painting begins to move and it shows him aiming at the titans with his arrows and using his spirit energy with it together. "He hurled his arrows!" They continued to sing together. "He shot! Locked those suckers in a vault! They're trapped! And on his own stopped chaos on its tracks!" And now they are lined up next to each other with spaces between them and behind them is white wall.

"And that's gospel truth!" They sang with excitement. (A/N: Imagine upbeat music in the background.) "The guy was too type a to just relax!" They continue while they dance to the music while they sing. "And that's the world's first dish." He Xuan sang. (A/N: image the upbeat is now calm and more relaxed but have some upbeat to it but not that much.)  "Yeah baby!" Shi Qingxuan sang after him. "Tai Yong'an tamed the globe while still in his youth." Feng Cin sang but more calmly. "All though, honey it may seem impossible!" They all sang together again. (A/N: Upbeat music in the background again.) "That's the gospel truth!" They sang together while putting their left hand on their chest while the other one was raised in the air. Then they put their hands and arms down, then they pointed at a painting of Heaven and they sang. "On the Heavens life was neat!" They continued to sing.

"And smooth and sweet vermouth!" They ran in circles in the same area "Although honey, it may seem impossible!"  Then they spin and continue singing. "That's the gospel truth!" (A/N: Imagine upbeat and humming in the background.) Now if the sky is clear as day there are farms with animals eating grass or hay that their owners give them to eat and small towns and a house on a hill that have a lot of grass on it then there is the Heavens where gods and goddesses and officials work and live.

This is where our hero Lang Qiu Qian story begins! This is just the beginning of our hero! He will face many things in his life but will face them like a true hero his!

what if mu qing had saved hong hong'er instead?

my guy simply would not do that. that kid is falling to his death SO fast.

you think if xie lian, the darling prince, got in serious trouble and it was even suggested his actions would bring their kingdom bad luck, that mu qing would survive something like that?

most people already don't like him or trust him when he's doing nothing wrong, and he knows this. all of his actions and behaviour and emotional responses revolve around the fact that he knows this. central to his entire character is that he is practical and realistic and wants to succeed. He does not publicly do things he knows would endanger him to simply do a good deed.

he is the one who repeatedly suggests the gruesome sacrifices that all the characters with the luxury to be noble won't accept. he does all his good deeds in secret. even 800 years later.

the fact that it HAS to be xie lian who catches hong hong'er is what communicates the oppressive class system.

in the end, mu qing conforms a lot more to the system that oppressed him and rises to the top of it, while xie lian is cast out of it and struggles in poverty for many centuries - when he could have been saved from that if he hadn't resisted / insisted on his idealism. this is a lot more interesting and realistic exploration of class to me. being a hero was ultimately not a luxury either of them could afford.

i could get behind a version where mu qing already knows hong hong'er from the slums, though. brings him cherries? if hong hong'er still ends up in the palace and xie lian & co are trying to ask him questions mu qing is glaring at hong'er from the back telepathically communicating DON'T SAY ANYTHING

really starting to get tired of the checklist i have to go through when i'm interested in a new mxtx blog. like. are they normal about mxtx. what do they think of [insert overly woobified character here]. THE VILLAINS. the heroes. random side characters. why. like usually svsss fans are fine because they stick to their one fandom and if you like svsss that already disqualifies you from being weird about sex scenes (which is a huge precursor to a lot of other rancid discourse) lol, and i already follow enough mdzs blogs, so i'm really just talking about finding good tgcf blogs (ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE). and then i think i've found a good blog for one of them but it turns out they're absolutely unhinged, and not in a good way, about one or both of the other books, or worse, mxtx herself. genuinely pulling my hair out like. why. anyway this was a useless rant i just wanted to get it all out of my system somewhere lmao

I just don’t follow new mdzs blogs unless they’ve already been verified by a mutual, and I’ve completely checked out of fics unless it’s by an author I’ve already read and approved of. I feel like I’m already blocked by most mu qing stans and also don’t engage with tgcf’s fandom, anyways, and svsss’ annoys me usually for reasons outside of woobifying shen jiu (outside of that one fluke discourse, I don’t even think sj stans bother me like that, and i know some of his fans follow me). What I want is for other cnovels to get big so that people move on to the next fad and leave the mxtx fandoms to people who enjoy THE STORIES THE AUTHOR WROTE.

For Feng Xin, it disrupted his world in another way. Someone who had been a constant companion, despite their animosity, vanished. Mu Qing was missing. or: Dragonification AU with Mu Qing being the one to do the stupid thing. This comes from Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
