Sam Wilson x Bucky Barnes - Star Wars AU.

It’s the quiet that makes Sam draw up short, when he slides into the shadows and darkness of the hanger. Settling into lean against the durasteel wall, he presses his hand more firmly against his side — where his Commander’s blaster shot had skimmed him — and lets himself settle. Waiting, watching, to ensure none of his troopers had followed after him.

He goes to take a break, but finds a sob catching in his throat when the force — normally a soft, soothing lullaby of light and love and peace — twists with screams of agony and fear and pain.

His men had turned on him.

Which meant, his brothers and sisters, his family's men had turned on them as well.

Oh, he thinks, his eyes welling up with tears, that’s what he was feeling.

Their deaths.

Oh.

Squeezing his eyes shut, he presses his palm against the burning of his wound, and gives himself just a moment longer to feel the anguish and loss, before taking a breath and centering himself to release his feelings into the force.

There would be time later to properly mourn their passing, the loss of his people — of his entire culture's loss — but that time would come later. Once he was off Coruscant. When he was far away from the inner core, and this, this new Empire.

“Sam?”

Startling violently, Sam let out a hiss as he pulled at his wound, but didn’t let that stop him as he called his lightsaber to his free hand, igniting it as he moved into a defensive stance. It was only then, that he took in who was standing before him, staring like he didn’t understand what was happening.

It’s Bucky. He’s safe. He hasn’t been found by anyone he didn’t want.

“Sam?” Bucky calls, strangled and high pitch as his eyes adjust to the darkness and he sees the state the other is in. “ E chu ta !” He spits out, anger and worry twisting his face into a deep frown as he rushes forward. Gently, he presses his hand over Sam’s and lets out a low growl of anger. “Kriff, Sam, what happened to you?” he asks, as he moves his other hand up, to curl around the side of Sam’s neck, thumb pressing gently against the pulse point.

As if he needed to feel, to know, Sam's heart was still beating. Still thrumming with life.

“My, my men,” he murmurs out, words catching around the hard lump suddenly in his throat but cuts himself off. The words seemingly too much to speak into existence, even after living through what had happened. Instead, he swallows thickly, he tries to continue on haltingly. “I need to. I. I need to,” Sam cuts himself off with a low moan of pain, as he squeezes his eyes shut. He takes a moment, as long as he dares, before adding on, “Need, need to get off planet.”

Opening his eyes, he peers, pleads really, at Bucky, before quietly asking, “Will you help me?”.

Bucky stares, almost dumbfounded, before answering hoarsely, “Or course. Of course, Sam,” his tone laced with durasteel. “You don’t even need to ask. You know that.”

Arboreal: Songbird protocol moodboard

This is the sweetest, perfect fluff and hurt/comfort fic set in the AVAC universe that I can’t sing high praises enough. If you want to give yourself a treat, you should definitely read it! You can find it on Ao3 here.

Steve Rogers x Tony Stark - 1872, AU.

He wakes to the ghost of feeling snouts brushing along his torso. To the sounds of snorts and snuffles, muffled by full mouths cloth and skin. To the feel of teeth and tongues along his body.

Shooting up, blankets pooling around his hips, Steve scrambles to clutch at his chest, desperately trying to suck in a breath his body can’t seem to take in. Eyes roaming wildly, he flinches at sudden movement next to him, at the feel of something grazing against his skin. Flailing, he tumbles out of bed, shuffling back until he can press against the wall.

Taking fistful of his own hair, he sucks in a shuddering breath and squeezes his eyes closed tight. It’s not real, it’s not. It’s just a bad dream. Just a nightmare of a memory that’s better left in the past.

It takes a long while before he comes back to himself, before he knows where he is. Before he knows who’s supposed to be here with him. Head snapping up, Steve eyes Tony, who’s kneeling on the bed still nearest him, murmuring gentle reassurances to him.

“To-Tony,” he croaks, voice breaking but it’s enough to have the other man scrambling off the bed — getting tangled up in their sheets as he does — and towards him. He would wince at the way Tony’s knees slammed into the hardwood of their bedroom floor, if he were in his right mind, but he’s not. All Steve can do is let himself be pulled into Tony, burrowing into the warmth and safety of his lover.

“It’s alright, sweetheart, it’s alright. It’s just, just a bad dream, a bad memory,” Tony murmurs, lips brushing against Steve’s forehead as he talks. “Okay? Just, just a bad memory. You’re okay now, okay. Whole and hale and alive.”

Steve lets out a half choked sob, pressing his face into the crock of Tony’s neck and wraps around him. He’s not sure how long they stay like that, wrapped around one another, as Steve lets the memory fade. “Sorry,” he rumbles low and hoarse. “’m sorry ‘bout this.”

“No, no, Steve. No,” Tony chides softly, pulling back so they can look one another in the eye. “No, you don’t get to apologize for this. To me, for your nightmares.” Untangling from Steve, Tony moves to cup his cheek, thumb brushing gently back and forth. “You don’t let me apologize for my nightmares, so you don’t get to apologize for yours.”

“Tony-” Steve tries to argue, more half heartedly than anything.

“Nope,” he cuts in firm, lips quirking up at the side, eyes crinkling at the corners. “Can’t beat me about this one, Sheriff,” he quips with a wide smile. Leaning in, he presses a gentle kiss to the corner of Steve’s mouth, before resting their foreheads together. “How about we get back in bed, sweetheart? Don’t have to go back to sleep, but bed's a might more comfortable on these old knees, than this floor is.”

Letting out a wet huff, Steve nods and lets Tong go, so they can pick themselves up and move back to their bed.

Then everything goes black and Bucky knows no more.

Or: Maybe finishing that MTH fill fic would go faster if you didn't spend so much time getting yourself put on watchlists with all that research on explosions... caused by interactions with an entirely fictional chemical.

A few fun facts about Mesquite Regional Scrapyard and chemistry.

One. While still nominally a public waste site, the railway and equipment at Mesquite were all legally owned and maintained by CyberLife.

Two. Thirium, while generally poorly studied and largely inert, could be sublimated to a short-lived plasmodic state via the rapid introduction of kinetic energy in the form of heat.

Three. Thirium plasma could be used to jump-start a cascading synthesis of functionalized mesoporous silica, an artificial form of common silica.

Four. This specialized form of silica was known to be highly explosive.

And, five. The most common mineral found in Mesquite’s sand is silica-based feldspar.

The other day I posted the earrings I finished for Marvel Trumps Hate, and stated they were my third and last offering for 2019. Which they are, but I realized I had not yet posted these because I have not yet sent them to their forever home. lol

@Issa was the high bidder for my fingerless gloves and asked for Cap gloves, but asked me to hang on to them until it was cool in her part of the world. Consequently I hadn’t posted them yet. Since that was pointed out to me, I figure I’d better post them while I’m thinking about it or else I will def forget.
