Mississippi Has Nation’s Worst Health Outcomes
The Mississippi State Department of Health’s Maternal and Infant Health Bureau hosted the maternal health conference to prioritize maternal health, spread solutions and educate health-care workers.
MSDH recognizes September as National Infant Mortality Awareness Month to bring awareness to infant deaths that happen from birth until one year of age. Mississippi’s infant death rate was 9.2 per 1,000 births, MSDH reported in 2022, the most recent year of data collection.
Neither MSDH nor national organizations recognize a maternal mortality awareness month, though. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has chosen Jan. 23, 2025, as Maternal Health Awareness Day.
“Focusing on maternal and infant deaths had to be a top priority of the agency coming out of the pandemic because they’re the most egregious deaths, I would say. Out of all the deaths, … I think none more are more tragic than our preventable maternal and infant deaths,” Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Daniel Edney said at the conference on Sept. 20.

“Layers of inadequate oversight and enforcement” by state and federal agencies contributed to a water crisis in Mississippi’s capital city that left tens of thousands of people without safe drinking water for weeks in 2021 and 2022, a watchdog agency says. The Mississippi State Department of Health did not consistently document deficiencies in the Jackson water system or notify city officials about significant problems after the department conducted sanitary surveys and annual inspections from 2015 through 2021, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Inspector General said in a report issued Monday. “The MSDH oversight failures obscured Jackson’s long-standing challenges, allowed issues to compound over time, and contributed to the system’s eventual failure,” said the inspector general, an independent group inside the EPA that began investigating Jackson’s water woes in September 2022.

I am not a soldier.
I am terrified for my future. For some reason, some god forsaken reason, gun control is not something that is happening in the United States right now. Instead, in the wake of YET ANOTHER school shooting, there are people pushing for eductors to be issued guns. I don't want a gun. I don't want to feel like I need one. I want to feel safe in my profession. I want my future students to feel safe going to school. I want to nurture musicality and growth in an environment that doesn't need military grade protection. I am so proud of the survivors of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for taking such a traumatic experience and using their pain and anger to push for change. They don't want thoughts and prayers, they want change. They want for this to never happen again. Like normal people. I did not sign up to be a soldier, I signed up to be a teacher.
I leave you with this real gif of me and Congress.

S2 date
The release date for the S2 is still unknown. Looking back on S1, the first time Netflix mentioned the show (on the muynetflix IG) was December 15, 2020. Then on January 2 we got to know the release date, and on January 7 they released the trailer and then the show premiered January 20. By the looks of it, they start to promote one month prior to the premiere.

Recently Oka Giner (Elena) was talking about her upcoming projects (which MSDH is one of them) and when they might air. She said that La Venganza de las Juanas is the last one of her projects that’ll air this year, so, based on that s2 will probably air next year. So if Netflix follow the same template as last time I’d guess we’ll get a date in mid or late December and then it’ll air around a month after.
Paulina and Ludwika were also doing some post production work a couple of days ago. I’m unsure of how long the process takes and probably vary a lot depending on what production it is etc etc. In any case it seems like they’re in the final stretch of finalizing everything. And please don’t fall for the “soon”s and “ya se viene”s lol they’ve been saying it since April.

Speaking of the post production content, here’s some completely useless info for yalls. It seems like Mariana will wear the same dress from 1x08 in 2x08.
———————————— ‼️‼️UPDATE‼️‼️ ———————————— WELL SCRAP ALL OF THAT APPARENTLY SEASON 2 AIRS IN NOVEMBER??? SO WE MIGHT GET SOME NEWS THIS MONTH?? AHHHH!

by Alex Rozier Mississippi Today The state Department of Health announced Wednesday that all of its appointments to administer vaccines are booked and no additional doses are available at this time. "The Mississippi State Department of Health had a vaccine distribution plan in place that has been significantly altered in the last few days – especially in the last 24 hours," MSDH said in the notice. "Neither the county health department drive-through sites, nor the UMMC vaccine scheduling website was designed to accommodate the monumental surge we are currently experiencing. At this time, we have no additional vaccine, and every appointment is tied to an actual vaccination." The notice went on to say that MSDH hopes to receive a large shipment of vaccine in mid-February. A MSDH spokesperson clarified that the announcement only refers to the department's availability and that private clinics and hospitals schedule their own vaccinations. READ MORE: Frequently asked questions about COVID-19 vaccines in Mississippi On its Facebook page, the University of Mississippi Medical Center, which is handling the state's vaccine scheduling system, said its "site and server were not prepared for the surge of page visits brought on by the announcement yesterday of vaccine availability for all Mississippians 65 and older and those in younger age ranges with underlying conditions." After initially making doses available for healthcare workers and long-term care center residents and staff, Gov. Tate Reeves announced last week the roll-out was moving ahead of schedule by opening of appointments for those 75 and older. On Tuesday, the state then expanded eligibility to those 65 and older, as well as those with pre-existing conditions, groups which were initially slated to become eligible in February. As of Wednesday, the state had administered 73,931 vaccines out of the 264,650 doses it had distributed; about 90,000 of those doses, or 34%, went through the federal pharmacy partnership with CVS and Walgreens. During a press conference Tuesday, Reeves lamented the slow rollout in hospitals, where less than half of their distributed doses had been administered, as well as at LTCs, where pharmacies attribute the issue to a "lack of personnel."
