Emotional going on after 2 of my heroes, and commenting right after. . Just did Amanpour & Company live on CNNi, and it runs on PBS tonight. It starts with David Hogg, who was also stunning. . Hard to follow. I lost my composure. But honored. #parklandstrong (at CNN) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bt3-nVFn9qW/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=8f6e5kzq31jd

Even though everywhere I go, including my own room is a constant reminder of the shooting that killed my friend Nick and 16 of my classmates and teachers, I still love my home and my community so much. Parkland is so beautiful and so resilient 🧡

Ya know, wands from Harry Potter are like guns. Except a fictional book has a better system. They provided them with the object but taught them for 7 years how to properly use it. They also weren't allowed to use it outside of the school. And especially not around people who knew nothing about wands. You could only have one wand, as we found out in the Deathly Hallows; wands allegiances can be won over and you can be the owner of multiple wands. Just not legally. If you're a criminal, your wand could be suspended and/or revoked. They had people tracking the wands use during the educational period. And still had task forces that made sure there was no improper use. Many different departments, even. AND! It doesn't matter if someone else had a wand, the killing spell killed who it connected to first. Good guys with wands didn't stop bad guys with wands. In fact, in The Order of the Pheonix, more wands and improper training led to the needless death of one of their own. *cough* R.I.P Sirius Even in Harry Potter, with complex laws and regulations, there were still loop holes and criminals able to get away with crime. But fewer people were injured or hurt. They were even able to keep their society a secret because of how intricate they made their system! About the same amount of people died in Pulse as they did in the Battle of Hogwarts. Let that sink in. How many more shootings have we had since Pulse?   Wands have more than one use-- not just killing or injuring. Just putting that out there, too. And you know what else? You know what's REALLY the point? Most people were swayed by the media. One week Harry was a villain, the next he was a hero. Their judgement was clouded. Too much information, too many opinions. Sirius died by a wand, died because of chaos and improper training... but Harry was fed a lie and ate it up. It wasn't the real truth. And that led them in to more danger than any wand ever did. Remember that. Even tho their system was intricate, the Ministry still fell. It took over a year. There were lies fed. Friends and family turning on each other. Confusion. Fear. Denial. HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN? They asked. We asked. It's been happening, though. Secretly. Not secretly. And while you argue over what the TV says, what this "informational" meme said- you're ignoring the kids PLEADING FOR THEIR LIVES! Maybe it's time we listen to the observers. Maybe it's time we let young minds, brilliant minds, vocalize. Stay vigilant.Take a minute to process.

INDIE 5-0: 5 QUESTIONS FOR ALAN SCOTT
Tumblr media
Alan Scott is singer-songwriter from Washington, D.C. His music is a blend of pop, alternative rock, funk, and a splash of brit pop, featuring world-class musicianship and critically-acclaimed songwriting. His songs ultimately speak to the power of love, celebration, and compassion for all. We got to catch up with him following his latest release, “Colors In A Dream.”
1. Do you remember the moment you had the idea for the song, “Colors in a Dream”? Walk us through the process and how hard it was to write about.
Actually the longer I’ve been writing, the more simple my songs get. “Colors in a Dream” was written in wake of the Parkland shootings, and when children started being separated from their families and put in camps. Many families were destroyed by these events. That is something that horrified many people. Something words alone could not express. I wanted to write a song that kids would easily understand, with all the sentiments adults were feeling at the time. Also, the ethos of the collaborative effort was that the song and the video were symbiotic. Some of the more complex emotional reactions are generated by the video itself. This allows for each person to have their own reaction to the challenging themes of this video. I wanted to create an anthem of hope. And of change. Only our votes can change this.
2. You mention that the song is a “salute to Martin Luther King Jr.”, on the 50th anniversary of his passing. Why is his legacy so important to you, especially considering the climate of our country and today’s world?
Martin Luther King Jr was one of the greatest Americans in the history of our country. He was about unity and equality. Today, there is an effort to divide, demonize, and distort the narrative of those with the least power to defend themselves. There is a lot a fear and blame, but a conspicuous absence of moral clarity, truth, and courage. Martin Luther King Jr is the epitome of that courage. He stated he was allowed to see the mountain top. We have to find the courage as a country to climb to the top of that mountain. We have to earn it.
3. Your video for “Colors in a Dream” has so many incredible people involved and is layered with hope for social change, what was the hardest thing about filming this video?
I would say that one of the incredible people in this project is Manuel Oliver. He lost his son in the Parkland shooting.  He is the introduction to “Colors in a Dream”. Any parent will react strongly to his story. Manuel is a gifted artist in many disciplines. His experience has transformed him into an artistic lighting rod for change.I am in awe of him. On Oct 25 in Times Square there is a special unveiling. Look for it.
The hardest thing about filming is the emotional magnitude of the loss of life and the destruction of families. Seeing the notes of love and condolence from all the children to the families who lost their sons and daughters was extremely intense. It renewed my commitment to convey their reality in the video.
4. Your video touches topics like, destruction of lives through deportation, gun violence, and how important voting is, for someone who is not educated on the importance of voting, what advice would you give them?
Your vote is your voice. Your voice matters. Voting is a right. Nobody should be allowed to silence your voice, or suppress your vote. Or threaten you will jail time if you try to vote. This 2018 election is a chance to change the reality we are living in. That reality is a nightmare for many families. Stand with them. Stand with the 58,000 voters in Georgia who cannot vote due to voting laws targeting minorities. Only our votes can change that. Use your voice to raise their voice.
5. How does music help inspire change in you, and how does it keep you focused on a better, brighter future?
I believe there is a power in music to heal the soul. It allows you to examine your vulnerabilities, not as faults, but as part of a larger narrative. Every person I know who has walked through the fire in their life emerged stronger for having done so. Music is song of praise to the power and rarity of our existence. I believe it to be a reflection of a beauty beyond description.

As we mark 4 years since the mass shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School that ended 17 lives, forever changed dozens of victims' families, and left a tragic and permanent mark on our country, The Haggard Law Firm remains galvanized by the incredible survivors who take action against gun violence every day. The inspiring leadership and sleepless effort by the survivors and victims' families have carved a path to becoming part of this much-needed change. 🙏 ➡An average of 40,000 people die from gun violence each year in the United States. ➡No other country has had more mass shootings. ➡No country has more gun owners. It takes all of us to honor the victims of the Parkland shooting and their inspiring families. It takes all of us to push for a change to end mass shootings, the epidemic of our time, and curb all gun violence. #parkland #parklandstrong #EndGunViolence #endgunviolencenow #endgunviolencetogether (at Parkland, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ-Dc4rvZf7/?utm_medium=tumblr
