for each of the games that you’ve played/enjoyed, which guys do you think a) have the healthiest relationship with the mc and b) are most likely to break up with their mc?

ooh this is such an interesting question! i’m assuming this means within each game, but i’ve played so many that it’s hard to go through them all and there are some where i only played one or two charas max so i’m just gonna pick a few that i’m more familiar with overall (and/or have played more than two charas) if that’s okay with you! (also sorry it took so long to answer haha)

healthiest: rei. maybe the ONLY healthy relationship in the entire game?? (i haven’t played ryogo yet tho) rei is maybe one of the most perfect voltage men ever created and the only times he and his mc ever have any unhealthy disagreements is when the mc is being an idiot

likely to break up: probably takane bc they still have some issues to work out. definitely not araya bc even though it seems like they may still have issues here and there, araya will literally cling onto this relationship with every fiber of his body

her love in the force

healthiest: surprisingly....... kaga? maybe? imo goto still has some things to work out about his insecurities and fear of losing partners. kaga and his mc were so different from the start that they’ve already overcome most of their biggest problems together. they’re close to each other’s families, they basically know all of each other’s secrets. also, kaga actually treats her really well. despite how it may seem through their language, they actually have a really balanced relationship, to the point where i would argue that they actually understand each other the best out of all the hlitf couples. the fact that they can speak to each other the way they do is testament to how well they know each other by this point. yes, they had some issues in his battlefield but honestly that was maybe the last big issue they would have needed to work through. maybe that’s why kaga’s trial is taking so long to be released bc i feel like at this point in time, there is no problem that they can’t work out together. because kaga is so prickly and so BAD at saying nice things, his mc trusts him completely and understands him even when he just says one word. and throughout the seasons, she’s also proved herself as invaluable to him, and as someone he can rely on as a lover and a partner. i truly believe that kaga and his mc have the strongest, closest and most mutually trusting relationship out of everyone in hlitf and i genuinely don’t know how they’re going to top what we’ve already seen between the two of them and i CAN’T WAIT TO FIND OUT!!!

likely to break up: i mean i wouldn’t have guessed ishigami before his battlefield but...... there it is. do i think they’re going to break up again? no, but they definitely still have a lot to work through. anyway the most likely to break up at this point in time imo is toru and his mc bc of obvious reasons (those reasons being toru’s issues lol).

likely to break up: as of now, probably kamiki rei bc i love him so much but the mc kind of needs a back brace from carrying their relationship and i think we need to see rei working harder for the rship, esp when things get tough and he’s used to just doing things his own way

healthiest: yuzu, the only valid masquerader.

likely to break up: everyone except yuzu. kazuomi bc i still don’t think he’s at a stage where he’s truly committed and fully dedicated to her - not above the other things in his life anyway. kei bc he still has some stuff to work through and i honestly think the power relation between them is super unhealthy and maybe more of a coping mechanism for his trauma (rather than as a way of healing) and honestly he literally ghosted her that time and i really think he’d do it again.

MC was in the break room finishing up a coffee, when Natsume had just arrived and he decided to join her. It had been awhile since the childhood friends had engaged in a personal conversation, and MC was enjoying catching up and hearing about the latest happenings with some of their old classmates. She didn’t even realize that Toshiaki (also known as her boyfriend outside of the office) had been watching them and he suddenly stormed up to their table. “MC, I need speak to you regarding the General Motor Account,” he informed her firmly as his eyes were narrowed, “I’m afraid the matter is rather urgent, and it simply can’t wait.”

Standing up, MC adjusted her skirt, and bowed her head in response, “I understand Mr. Kijima.” Without another word, Toshiaki turned around to leave, and MC started to follow him. “You’re in trouble now,” Natsume chuckled under his breath to her before she had left the break room. MC knew this had to be an excuse to meet because there was nothing left for them to finish on the General Motor Account but confronting her when she was with someone else was bold for Toshiaki. She was lost in her thoughts, when she felt Toshiaki grab her hand and usher her inside one of the supply closets. Startled, MC shot a questioning look to her boyfriend, who had now dropped the stern executive act, and was blushing.

“Toshiaki,” MC was the first to break the silence, “Um, what are we doing in the closet?” She didn’t think it was possible, but Toshiaki had turned redder than an apple, and he shyly avoided her gaze. “You were talking to Asaoka and I didn’t like it,” he muttered under his breath, “He was sitting very close to you.” MC tried not to giggle when she saw how cute Toshiaki looked when he was jealous. Very rarely did she ever have the opportunity to see him with a pout on his face. Wanting to reassure him, MC took a step closer to him, and wrapped her arms around him for an embrace. “Don’t worry Toshiaki,” she softly promised him, “You’re the only man I could ever love.” Toshiaki leaned down to give her a kiss that started to turn intensify, until they both remembered where they were at.

He was the first to break their embrace with each other, and he quickly straightened up his tie, before putting his hand on the doorknob. “I’m sorry,” he offered a sincere apology, “It’s not fair MC. You’re just so cute, and it’s hard for me to control myself.” MC fixed her bangs and Toshiaki grabbed her free hand with his to shake it. “Let’s continue what we started later tonight,” he said and exited through the door. She smiled as she now felt motivated to finish her workday, knowing that her boyfriend would be waiting for you right after.

Thank you so much for tagging me @cherrymousse !! My replies are based on prologues and main story episode 1 mainly LOL. I only got to play Shunichiro Tachibana (irresistible mistakes) and Kyohei Rikudoh (scandal in the spotlight) until the end because Voltage was nice enough to let us play their stories for free HAHAHA.

FIRST CHARACTER I FELL IN LOVE WITH: I believe it was Kota Igarashi from “Scandal in the spotlight”, don’t ask me why... it just happened!!! CHARACTER I NEVER EXPECTED TO LOVE AS MUCH AS I DO NOW: Haruichi Mamiya!! He didn’t caught my attention at first but I think the more MC interacted with him, the more I liked him. He is indeed intelligent, polite, and more importantly a gentlemen until the end (unlike the other liars who forces MC or beg her not to leave etc). I believe he truly loves MC. Plus, he is a hottie!! Hottie with glasses! Even though he would look 100 more hotter w/o glasses imo. Ladies, please give him some love! (PS: my heart still belongs to Itaru tho) CHARACTER EVERYBODY LOVES, BUT I DON’T: Idk if everybody loves Eisuke but yeah Eisuke Ichinomiya (kbtbb) because I can’t really stand him. He is just too much for me. I can’t. My apologies, people. CHARACTER I LOVE, BUT EVERYBODY HATES: I can’t think of anyone? CHARACTER I WOULD MARRY: Ayato Hidaka (my last first kiss), Natsume Asaoka (irresistible mistakes). I probably have a thing for childhood friends... more like I really do. They are both super caring and always there for MC. Too bad, I don’t have any childhood friends LMAO CHARACTER I WOULD KILL: Mr. Kunio Muroi. The first part

Summary: Shortly after returning from US, Melyssa has once again to feel how stressful her field of work can get. Thankfully, her boyfriend - Shun - is always ready to take care of her.

Melyssa put the pillow on her face, trying to get rid of the light and the noise. A sudden touch on her neck made her uncover her face for a second. Meanwhile, Shun put their coffee on the bedside.

"It's already half a year since your return. Didn't you adjust to the time here? Is jet lag still bothering you?" the man asked while tickling her bare skin. When he touched a sensitive part, the pillow in Melyssa's hands flew straight into his face.

The girl lifted herself a little while the covers went down her bare body. She didn't care what her perfect chest did to her boyfriend's heart. Instead, Melyssa rubbed her eyes and ran her finger into her hair to understand in what state it was.

"Are you trying to romance me?" Shun asked playfully, with his fingers now under his girlfriend's chin.

"If I wake up and continue that project, I can present it to Mr. Tachibana by noon. While I search for ideas, I can make a scheme for that new one. The project with Addison Creative is near its end, so I have only to tell the trainee to call the actress and then ask them the answer. "So, Asaoka is Natsume and I am Mr. Tachibana for you?" Shun teased Melyssa, squeezing her face in between his hands.

Shun smiled. Instead of answering, he captured Melyssa's lips in his. His kiss was better than any coffee. The man felt his girlfriend's hands around his neck. Even if he wanted to prolong this feeling for as long as possible, he had heard her schedule. None of them could afford to take any longer. Melyssa dreamed about clearing her schedule as fast as possible to sleep longer. Shun wanted the same thing because the weight of the velvet box in his jacket gave him heart problems.

Just as she said that morning, Melyssa was in Mr. Tachibana's office by noon. From the look on her face and the state her makeup was on, Shun could tell that the mental schedule he had heard earlier wasn't as packed as her real one. Before giving his verdict, the man searched for something in his drawers. Taking out a pack of makeup remover wipes he asked Melyssa to come nearer. The sleep-deprived planner didn't have enough time to understand what was happening before Shun wiped away a few black stains under her eyes.

"I heard from our colleagues from States that you left a good impression there. I know that everyone expects the best from you, but you're also a human. Give you a little credit and stop stressing so much."

Melyssa let her boyfriend take care of her destroyed makeup. Yet, inside of her was a hurricane of unsaid words. All the challenging projects with the shortest deadlines were on her from the moment she returned. Her title of rising start grew into the one of a genius.

Everyone, from her colleagues to the clients, expected only the best from her. She couldn't let anyone down. Melyssa returned from the states with enormous popularity. So, she had to show everyone that she deserved that title. Melyssa also remembered Shunichiro's last words before her departure. He had said that he would officially make her his. She knew when it happened that rumors about her being unworthy of all the praises she got would arise from everywhere. So, she had to do everything possible not to give anyone a reason to think like this. And the only way to do it was to work, work, and work: smart and hard. Shunichiro was right about the importance of taking it easy. Yet, Melyssa didn't have the time for such a luxury.

The planner's thoughts were interrupted by her boss' words. "Lack of originality. Doesn't catch attention. Repetitive. Unworthy." There weren't the words that left Mr. Tachibana's lips. Yet, this was what Melyssa heard. Maybe her boyfriend used a friendlier way to express himself. But she didn't need anyone's friendliness. She needed to work. The company and the client chose her because they had faith that she would make a masterpiece in the shortest time. So, Melyssa had to do it. She returned as an executive director. She had to show everyone that she deserved it.

After Melyssa returned to her desk, the trainee in charge of the casting ran toward her to announce that the actress didn't want to take the work that wouldn't make her more popular. The planner was in the industry long enough to know that the success of the casting ran hand in hand with the person who was calling. Even if she didn't want to admit it, Melyssa's name weight more than the trainee's. So, she took the deal into her hands. In less than half an hour, the girl talked with all the actress' managers. Though, when she finally reached its destination, one of the most humbling experiences in the last years occurred:

"Do you know with whom are you talking, girl? Why do you even have my number? God, can you get rid of it? I don't want to have anything with you. What have you ever done in your life? Told a few inexperienced models how to smile with a bottle of sake in their hands? Don't call me ever again. Continue working in your dark and dusty office without any recognition."

Melyssa frowned. After the actress hung up, she called for the trainee and asked them to put that name on the dark list. She didn't want anyone to experience the same harsh words, especially when the list of suitable actresses was longer than her to-do list.

The planner let her head rest on the desk for a while. She didn't know how long it lasted. The thing that made her stay straight again was Kiriya's pile of documents that appeared in the closest proximity to her ear.

"Are you alive?" the copywriter asked, gently swinging her chair. "I was just meditating," Melyssa hummed in response.

"Are you trying to reach the inner Melyssa who has better ideas than you?" the teasing continued.

Usually, the planner would give an equally mischievous replay. Yet, in her state, Kiriya's words resonated with her insecurities. The fast glance toward her colleague wrist watch made her jerk. She had to talk with Mr. Araki. The CEO of Addison Creative was waiting for her, and Melyssa knew it. However, another thing she knew was that out of all the people in the building, Jun was the harshest. Was she in the right state of mind to face him? She knew better than to answer affirmatively at this question. So, Melyssa tried everything to postpone their meeting. It worked till it didn't.

The next day, even before the planner reached her desk, Mr. Araki was there. Melyssa bumped into the glass wall when she turned back to avoid him. Yet, the worried cries of her colleagues caught Mr. Araki's attention. And there they were, face to face. The man didn't have to say a thing for Melyssa to understand that everything was worse than she had thought. A heavy roll of documents hit her chest.

"I expected more from you. You are worse than you were when you left."

And Mr. Araki left. The documents that he gave Melyssa nearly reached the floor. However, an elegant long hand caught them. Shun placed them on his girlfriend's desk and patted her, encouraging Melyssa to walk towards her place. The gentle pat on her back made the planner bite her lip. A strained smile appeared on her face.

"It's okay," Mr. Tachibana whispered into Melyssa's ear. "Let's drink a coffee together," he offered.

The man didn't let his girlfriend use the excuse of just beginning the workday. He nearly kidnapped her from her department and took her to the roof.

"Spill it," when Melyssa avoided looking into his eyes, Shun continued. "Your heart. Spill everything that is bothering your heart. I am here to listen to how harsh your colleagues are and how you don't want to work with Araki on the nearest two thousand projects. I will be near you and nod on every word you let out," he continued to encourage his girlfriend with a hand on her head.

At first, Melyssa chose to stay silent. Then, an avalanche of words threatened to escape her lips.

"I don't want to let anyone down. But I have so much on my plate. Clients and colleagues expect me to do everything perfectly from the start. But I can't. I don't know how to be perfect. I know how to work hard. Why can't I be like you? I don't want to let you down and hear how people say that I'm not worthy by your side."

Shun didn't do as he promised. The words Melyssa said were too harsh to be accepted. Instead, he hugged her tightly against his chest. What if her mascara remained on his snow-white shirt? He didn't care. Mr. Tachibana was ready not to be considered perfect if that made his girlfriend happy. He didn't even understand why she thought of him so highly. It was her who was fantastic. So what if she made a few mistakes? It was perfectly normal.

"Wanna remember school and run away from work?" he said jokingly, with her face between his hands, already knowing the answer.

Melyssa shook her head. She had work to do and couldn't afford to let the tomorrow Melyssa suffer even more. Yet, Shunichiro's words made her smile.

"Let's go home earlier today. What do you think?"

Again, Melyssa shook her head.

"I can't go earlier. But I can work only an hour more. What do you think if I work an hour over the schedule and we go home?"

Shun smiled. At least it wasn't an all-nighter. The man nodded and kissed his girlfriend's forehead. They had ten more hours till cuddling together.

However, Shun's plans were destroyed again. After ten hours, Melyssa wasn't cuddling with him. With messed-up makeup, bags under her eyes, and a pouty face, she was still irresistible.

The Walk of… Shame?

Now, this is a welcome change! You know how most otome games err terribly on the side of chastity? Well, not this one. This one starts with a supremely drunk and perfectly ill-advised one night stand. I love the premise. Obviously, the MC is beyond embarrassed by her own behavior, and since the other party must be someone from work, she is also mortified because she will a) see this person again and b) totally not remember who it was. Which is hilarious, since she comes across all the possible candidates, and, not knowing who she slept with, doesn’t know what to do with herself around them.

Now, again, we have the sticky issue of consent, or, more to the point, its absence in this story. Reader, I am aware, as mentioned here. At this stage, I guess, if you’re into otome games at all, you will have resigned yourself to the circumstance that consent just isn’t a thing that’s gonna happen here. As did I. Apparently, the MC did have a good time, though, so, er, okay.

It’s also funny that she worries quite a bit about what the men in question might think of her. You know, those men who did the exact same thing she did? Nice double standard you’ve got there, Voltage/Japan/world.

What’s the Story?

The MC works at an important advertising company, the number two in the country. She loves working there; when she was young, she saw a commercial, written by the impressive Mr. Tachibana, that touched her so deeply, she decided she wanted to go into advertising and make a similar impact on people.

One night, when celebrating with her company at a bar, she gets exceedingly drunk. The next morning, she wakes up in a hotel room she doesn’t recognize, with clothing generously strewn about, and a man who, at present, is taking a shower. She vaguely remembers having had sex – presumably with the person in the shower – but she has no idea who that could have been. Mortified, she gets dressed and flees the scene before she has to deal with the man in question.

Things being as they are, she has no time to go home and get changed, so she hurries to work in her slightly disheveled state. Throughout the day, she comes across most of her possible paramours.

Now, apparently the prologue was changed to accommodate the addition of Dr. Maki to the cast. What remains is the MC’s panic every time one of the men makes a suggestive comment in her general vicinity.

The Guys

Tachibana Shunichiro is the MC’s superior at the advertising firm. It’s one of his early commercials that inspired the MC to choose a career in advertising in the first place. He is a superstar, people are in awe of him; could he possibly have taken an interest in the MC, a simple employee? He is good friends with Toshiaki and Maki, with whom he hangs out on the rooftop.

Kijima Toshiaki is cold as ice. His behaviour is professional and distant at all times. He is the head of Accounting. It is unthinkable that he would lose his composure and have a one-night-stand.

Kiriya Toma is the hot shot copywriter. Young, talented, and aloof, he knows that a base one-night-stand can never lead to true love. He seems to know Taku from earlier in his life. The two have a weird rivalry going on.

Asaoka Natsume is the MC’s childhood friend. He is very dependable. He also turns into an old lady at the drop of a hat, admonishing the MC on how to behave in her personal life.

Okubo Go is the cute and very young bartender at the joint where the MC got so unbelievably drunk. Could it be…?

Hayama Taku is a regular at that same bar. He appears to know the MC somehow, but she cannot recall having met him before. Surely she wouldn’t bed a total stranger?

Maki Yukihisa is the in-house doctor at the advertising firm. He is friends with Shunichiro and Toshiaki. His route is also very new, so I basically have no idea his deal is.

Why would I date you?

FINALLY a premise where the MC gets some action right up front! I believe this title was even rated 17 and up in the English version, due to all the sex. Spoiler: there is ALL the sex in some of the routes, but really not all. While the MC has her usual bouts of embarrassment, they are not for the usual reasons, and I enjoyed that. I mean, of course she is discomfited when she has to share an elevator with the stone-faced Toshi the morning after, but wouldn’t we all be?

I choose you!

My first was Toshi, because I love thawing the hearts of stone-cold men. His story is touching, even if the source of his reluctance is a trope as old as time. Shunichiro’s story is surprisingly engaging. It’s also the one with all the sex. Toma was a bit weird, but that’s because the character is a bit weird. In Natsume’s story, the MC did not actually have the ONS with Natsume, because that would have been a little bit icky. The story is not predictable, precisely, but a bit tame. There’s only one guy who doesn’t interest me in the least, and that’s Taku. He comes across as fairly creepy in Toma’s story, so I decided to give him a wide berth. I haven’t purchased Go’s route, but I might.��I have recently acquired Yukihisa’s route, and I can’t wait to find out who that guy is! I’ll keep you posted.
