Supongo que es la edad

Un día me obsesioné con los bollitos al vapor, por un lado porque TDAH, pero también vegana, y hay muy pocos alimentos callejeros que pueda comprar, y me hizo muy feliz toparme con un personaje de anime que disfrutó tanto como yo ese descubrimiento.

Últimamente me he encontrado consumiendo animes que no tienen la típica estructura de "conflicto por resolver" o "relación que consumar". El escenario y los personajes se mueven en un amplio rango: magos, godínez, villanos, extraterrestres, asesinos a sueldo, preparatorianos, yakuzas, escritores, gatos... El punto es que en estas historias no hay nudo, tampoco desenlace, creo que las llaman slice of life. Siempre que comenzaba una, dudaba mucho en seguir viéndola, incluso cuando terminaba me quedaba un poco decepcionada, y creo que el problema era lo que esperaba de la serie, lo confirmo cuando leo comentarios de personas que las abandonan por lo aburridas que les terminan pareciendo.

La clave es ésta: el valor de cada uno de los episodios radica en los detalles, la cotidianidad retratada de tal manera que ir al 7-eleven a comprarte un bollito es una alegoría sobre las formas en las que puedes compensarte por el gran trabajo que haces cada día; todo el background que hay cuando una persona desconocida te hace una recomendación, la belleza en las interacciones casuales, lo sublime que puede ser cocinar, algo tan simple como picar las verduras, para después degustar cada bocado. En resumen, estas series son una visión mindfulness de la vida, y verlas me parece equiparable a una práctica estoica, como cuando estoy meditando y al retomar mis actividades es más fácil notar la belleza que me rodea a cada instante en la trivialidad de mi existencia.

Aquí les dejo algunas de las que más me han gustado, no las consideren precisamente recomendaciones porque son radicalmente distintas tanto en temática como en calidad, las hay con un increíble desarrollo de personajes, otras tocan temas muy fuertes, o también te pueden dar un coma diabético, en fin, sólo quería compartirles este otro lado del anime que estoy disfrutando enormemente.

Nota: pongo los títulos en las etiquetas, me hace mucha gracia es tendencia a nombrarlas con frases larguísimas aunque me dificulta horriblemente memorizarlas. xD

Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider series

She's smart, she's strong, she's witty, and she's hot. What else is there? I loved the Tomb Raider games as a kid. I used to make her do flips and swan dives and play around with her outfits (most relevant in Anniversary and Legend). She was so so cool. I'm not as big a fan of the reboot Lara, other than they made her queer, but :)

Anna the Huntress from Dead by Daylight

My wife. The game lore did her kinda dirty, but that's what headcanon is for. She's a big strong tall Russian lady who lives in the woods and hunts people. She kidnaps little girls from villages so she can take care of them in her little cabin and give them toys. She kills nazis. She sings. I'm so, so in love with her.

Ellen Ripley from the Alien series

Sigourney Weaver in general... but Ripley in particular. Brave, adaptable, intelligent. A girlboss if there ever was one. She's one of my favorite Final Girls (topped only by Nancy from the original Nightmare on Elm Street). Everything Ripley ever says is 100% correct and for some reason nobody wants to listen to her.

Leia Organa from Star Wars

A princess. A general. A rebel leader. And a badass bitch. Leia was one of the earliest examples of a good, strong-willed and fearless female character I had as a kid. Even if she needs rescue from time to time, she does plenty of rescuing others herself. She takes no guff from scoundrels like Han Solo or fascists like Grand Moff Tarkin. Her parents would be so, so proud of her.

Nani Pelekai from Lilo and Stitch

The relationship between Nani and her little sister Lilo reminded me a lot of my mom and me. And it takes a lot to raise a little kid on your own (especially one that is a little special needs like me and Lilo both were), working a crappy job, having no time for a social life, and having to fight against Child Protective Services. Being poor + indigenous + a broken family fucking sucks. But Nani held it together, just like my mom did. I can't forget a character like that.

The Grammys Celebrate 50 Years Of Hip-Hop

Sunday night The Grammys celebrated 50 years of hip-hop with a lineup of some of the most prominent rappers of the genre. Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel, Run DMC, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, Rakim, Mr. Scarface, Busta Rhymes, Too Short, Ice-T, Method Man, Lil Baby, GloRilla, LL Cool J and Public Enemy performed the compact tribute on the stage outfitted like 1520 Sedgwick Ave in the Bronx where DJ Kool Herc hosted the earliest hip-hop parties. Black Thought narrated the segment while The Roots provided the music. Questlove curated the evening and he, unfortunately, had to remove many artists because of time constraints.

There's a pair of Aether employees dropping mail off at the champion's mail box! What could it be? Aether branded items, such as an insulated water bottle, training gloves, and a sturdy backpack. Check it out, there's even a neat container for keeping berries from spoiling in your bag on a hot Alolan day. Lusamine believed in keeping good PR with the regional champion, even though she had no socialized with Satoshi beyond the occasional congratulatory email for professionalism.

what's satoshi's in alola is primarily the professors', so it's them that inform him of the package upon him returning from a training - packed afternoon. satoshi's relations with the aether president are by no means ... optimal. there's plenty of personal beef on the champion's part on behalf of friends. but two can play niceties. for appearances' sake.

satoshi's gotten quite good at pretending to like people. & he's never been one to throw aside a gift, especially one with utility, regardless of who it's from.

hmm, one can never have too many bottles for water, & liquids retaining temperature is a massive bonus, plus he's heard these are quite sturdy, which will be excellent for when he's back on the road. the material of the gloves feels good, texture rather similar to what he's already used to. he usually sticks to black gloves, any other color merely a cuff accent, & white wouldn't be his first choice, but his own gloves have begun to thin from actively guarding his palms & knuckles ... huh, they got his hand size exactly right. cool. definitely keeping these two. technically three, because, y'know... anyway.

the bag might be more suited for one of the professors, though. his backpack is as much tied to memories as a utility, so he's dragging that thing across the world until it can't be repaired any more.

all - in - all, a very well received package. satoshi might not check his own email, like, ever, & lusamine won't care either way, but he still asks rotom to send an acknowledgement of receiving the package, along with his thanks. mama raised him to do no less in this circumstance.

"Her drawings....?" Kariom echoes, eyebrows raising as he thinks on the question. He'd seen some of them---a lot of them, actually---but he knew that she had even more. She was always drawing and writing things down across multiple journals INCLUDING THE ONE SHE DIDN'T LET ANYONE ELSE LOOK AT, not even Kariom himself, and of course that's the one he's the most curious about.....

"....They're...nice, I guess." The star-reader huffs briefly, his gaze shifting to look over the immortal's shoulder---just in case---and then continues, "Okay fine...THEY'RE REALLY NICE. I don't get all of them, and some the things regarding the Tsourai are a little off sometimes but she's trying. Some of her stuff even reminds me of....." He trails off once more, his bout of unguarded honesty now tinged with apparent grief. Milosh. Milosh. Milosh. Milosh would've liked her drawings and notes for sure because he'd made them too. It made him worry about that bound journal of hers all the more, in a way. That sense of sharp unease he had about it refused to go away no matter how much time they spent together.

Enough. Enough, Stryhas dammit.

Now the star-reader forces out another breath, slower than the last, longer. Refocusing. Milosh had enjoyed his work and the Traveler was the same....weren't they? Shouldn't this be a happy question....?

"I'll have to ask her if she's drawn anything new once she gets back." The star-reader saying that he thought her drawings were nice wasn't a lie and Kariom was always excited to share such things with her, even if it was a struggle for him to admit it. "...and maybe I'LL SHOW HER HOW TO DRAW SOME NEW CONSTELLATIONS TOO."
