I drew this on July 7th. Summer has started, on June 21 to be precise, and it's certainly time for sports, and this year the Olympic Games are coming and it's time for games and sports. I started with basketball, more precisely with basketball 3x3, where it is played in three players as one team and I drew my favorite characters that would surely play as good basketball players as one team. Louie Duck, Gosalyn Mallard and Max Goof as teenagers are great at basketball and seemed like a team in my version and that's why I drew them. Yeah, I haven't drawn Max Goof in a long time so I drew him combining from Goof Troop and a Goofy Movie and where he's pretty tall and the same age as Louie Duck and Gosalyn I drew in my Quack Pack version. My only apology is that it turned out a little bad, I was in a hurry. And that I drew them all together to have blue eyes, even though I know Gosalyn has green eyes. I did it for my own reasons. I hope you like it.

Humans and Boredom I

Humans love games. There is almost nothing they won't turn into a game or competition. Nothing.

On our permanent embassy station, one day we noticed some repeating but indiscernible kinetic activity around one of Saturn's moons. Two research stations were exhibiting this odd energy discharge interchangeably. Thinking it would be inappropriate to pry further without permission, we asked, and later added their answer to the ever growing list of concerning behavior:

"We're playing Tic Tac Toe during our off time. Sample analysis and exotic material delivery is taking for-e-ver, so we figured we may as well get some manual practice with our new kinetic beam rays.

The operators on our neighboring station, Gliding Rhubarb, are in a similar spot, so we naturally decided to have a little competition.

In turn we pick out a small enough rock from Saturn's rings and fling it into a suborbital trajectory at the moon Tethys so it crashes in a predetermined 3x3 grid. If you miss, or hit an already marked spot, you auto-lose and buy everyone's drinks during the next movie night.

We started with a 9 square kilometer grid, but it turns out these beams are real accurate even without computer assistance, so we've narrowed it down to a 30x30m grid. I think we could go smaller, but there are a few kinks in these beam that' we're compiling a bug report on, plus it gets real difficult to pick out things less than 20cm across when you're a few thousand km away.

We're thinking of adding an extra rule where you can try to knock out a rock that's already been sent out with one that is at least ten times smaller, but that's for the next set. Currently we're on a best of 7, 0-2 our advantage, but their next shift operator is pretty good. Our internal clocks are off-sync, so I'll be up against her for the first two hours.

What did you do today? - “Mainly, training. This afternoon I had treatment”

Fandom Bingo: The Martian

For July, we're heading into space with Martian Bingo! I read the The Martian and watched the movie several years ago and recently got hooked back into it. I still like it just as much, so I figured I might as well do something useful with my obsession while it's there. If you haven't read or watched it, I definitely recommend giving it a try.

But as per usual, this event is multifandom, so you don't need to know the source material, and you can sign up no matter what fandom you want to write for.

Do you make your bed? A freshly decrumbed, stuffed animal arranged and dirty clothes removed bed feels great. How often do I do this? We mustn't ask (like once or twice a month) that's all making the bed entails for me, I just have a fitted then normal sheet and blankets

Favorite Number? 4 4 4 4 4! I've loved four my entire life she is like a goddess to me. 2+2 2*2 2^2, divides into halves twice. can only compete with sixteen, whose status and 2^4 and 4^2 is nice, but not as symmetric. 37 and 73 have a place in my heart as the 12th and 21st primes, but not a large place compared to 4

What's your job? What do I get paid for? undergrad lab TA, what do I do? grad research in low energy nuclear physics

If you could go back to school, would you? In school technically still. Would I rewind time to experience school again? highschool no college yes. would I go back for another college degree? I could be convinced if it would be cheap and unobtrusive to my current schooling. Was always torn between physics and linguistics. I made the right choice but I always wonder what if.

Can you Parallel Park? I have done it, on the driving test, like four or five years ago. I think I could do it again, but not too confident

Do you think Aliens are real? Eh, probably in a 'the observable universe 9.3e+9 ly across, it must have happened more than once' kinda way, but not in a 'they've been feeding us tech for thousands of years or are visiting us' kinda way.

Can you drive a manual car? Never tried, hubris tell me yes, anxiety with even normal cars tells me I'd probably fuck up the transmission while trying to leave the driveway. gonna say yeag

Guilty Pleasure? I think like cheesy childhood disney live action movies?, generally I'm pretty full chested about the things I enjoy

Favorite Type of Music? yeah, hard, a lot of vocaloid, which isn't reallly a genre, a lot of edm genres from like old school monstercat, a lot of jrock by way of anime OP's of show's I've never watched then finding other songs by those artists. some rock music though that genre is also extremely expansive and I'm not sure how I'd categorize a lot of it. Generally my music consumption consists of a group of maybe five songs completely unrelated on repeat for months at a time and genre is not a huge factor in that

Do you like puzzles? twisty puzzles like rubik's cube type puzzles are really fun working, towards doing a 3x3 blindfolded but challenging, I used to do jigsaw's with my mom but over the course of a very long time because we'd get frustrated. crosswords, but I'm no good at them

Favorite Childhood Sport? Soccerrrr. Wish I'd stayed with it, but there were only a couple more years before there wasn't a league for my age group anyway, been trying to get back into it recreationally

Do you talk to yourself? I do, but as if I'm talking to someone else. I prefer not to do it because I'm not content with my voice atm, but I find myself doing it a lot especially when getting stuck on research stuff trying to talk it out or I will say a comment to someone I disagree with outloud rather than typing it and posting it. A lot of this is to my reflection which is probably part of the reason it feels like someone else lol

Tea or Coffee? tea all the way. drank iced sweet black tea my entire childhood and started drinking it hot with milk in college. I was the kind of person that disliking coffee was a sort of pillar of my tastes, but then a few years ago made it with like half milk and a lot of sugar and like it, lotta people wouldn't call that coffee, but eh.

First thing you wanted to be when you grew up? The actual first thing was everything. I would amalgamate like all the stereotypes of things kids want to be into one so a firefighter-astronaut-whatever else. When I got a better sense of my interests, inventor, so I guess like product designer, but what that meant to me was I got to sit around and think of neat gadgets and items then figure out how to make them like freeze ray, time machine, clone gun, that kind of thing lol. the first practical idea of a job I wanted was theoretical physicist in like middle school, which I kinda am now so success I guess

What Movies do you Adore? not much of a movie person, but like to watch movies other people are interested in with them, love castle in the sky, LOTR, howl's moving castle, your name, probably others in those categories I don't know about yet or have forgotten and I have a strong soft spot for childhood halloween movies like twitches and halloweentown

During the Minecraft Live event today they talked about the design philosophy of the movie and it just confirms one of the biggest issues people have with it.

Blocks are supposed to be 3x3 feet large and… that is just “too big” for regular sized humans to walk around in. So that’s why there are various sized blocks. To make it easier for humans to walk around in. Now I disagree 3x3 is too big because you could’ve used the fact it’s harder to traverse the environment that way as a story element, but they choose instead to be lazy and just make it easier to walk around in.

BUT… that also explains why all the elements and ingots are so fucking SMALL. They need to be able to be held in your hands and placed on a crafting table grid. So you have this massive incongruity already with the environment being large blocks that shrink into extremely tiny blocks built in to the movie because you’re trying to solve a problem that ONLY arises when you turn it live action.

I’m pretty sure someone on YouTube speculated about this when they saw the trailer and were laughing at how bad that decision was, and yeah… I agree. It doesn’t look good. It introduces inconsistencies where none existed before. It’s an interesting design challenge, but it’s not fucking MINECRAFT.

To the people who say 3 brothers x 3 sisters is such a cliche:

1. Name literally any other book/movie/show/biography where that has happened

2. the definition of cliche is something that is overused and betrays lack of original thought. If you cannot name a different piece of literature with 3x3 brothers/sisters... is that not an indication it is not overused and therefore not cliche?

3. Perhaps your reading comprehension betrays you. No worries. I think you mean 3x3 is too convenient.

In which case, yes that is true. It would've been crazy for that to happen... if SJM wasn't basing the entire books on the Koschei 3 Wizards tale.

Also, knowing her obsessions with the number 3, I would go as far to say this is a theme of her books. It makes more sense for it to be 3x3 than anything else, based on how much this woman loves patterns.

And that is exactly what this is. Feysand getting together was the beginning. Nessian getting together was the next puzzle piece. And elriel getting together will be the final pattern that makes everything clear.

It's not a cliche, it's a pattern. It's a repeated theme.

If the order had been Feysand, then Elriel- would you still say Nessian shouldn't get together because it's too "cliche"? Or would you be more accepting of the pattern then?

It's simple pattern recognition, people.

Sister 1/3 gets a book, sister 2/3 gets a book.... logically the next book will be the 3/3 sister.

Sister 1/3 gets with her LI, Sister 2/3 gets with his brother... logically sister 3/3 gets with the last brother.

What's so hard to grasp? I thought it was obvious.
