"Again with the cats?" Monokid groans. "What's your deal? I don't want the damn cat."

"So you say," Monotaro retorts before turning back to you to answer, himself. "Hm... I suppose it depends on the breed. It has to be cool looking, but also be able to hold its own. In that sense, I guess I like wild cats more. Lynxes and the like."

"I don't understand why someone would want such an animal for a domesticated pet," Monosuke says with a sigh. "They don't really do much. They're like platypi."

"They're alright. I like to photograph them sometimes, but I feel bad for all the poor little strays..." Nanokuma remarks, flipping through the images in his camera where he got good shots of the stray cats where they live. "Trapped outside... either rain, snow, sleet, shine, or storm... Imagine how many die just because nobody cared enough to save them..." And with that, his eyes begin to tear up.

"I want one!" Monodam says with a rare smile. He likes anything cute because it manages to keep his mind off of all the issues in his life, if only for a little while.

"Hmm..." Monophanie hums for a moment inquisitively, before thinking of a good way to word her answer. "Cute, but I don't think I could have one. It might interfere with my career too much."

"Sorry, cat lovers. They ain't for me," Kurokuma says simply, taking a puff off his cigar. "That's not to say I mind 'em, I just wouldn't go out of my way to get one."

"Kitties are so cute and deserve to be protected!" Shirokuma beams, thrilled to be asked such a cutesy question about sweet animals.

"Hm... While I would prefer something that can better hold their own, I don't think I would let one die. If I had the opportunity to rescue a kitten, of course, it would be coming home with me... regardless of Kurokuma's views," Ball replies matter-of-factly.

"If my children could all agree that they wanted one— or at least turn out a majority vote— we could get one. Any kind they wanted. Hell, I wouldn't mind getting more than one. And I don't doubt their responsibility... most of them, anyway... but they have difficulty agreeing as is," Motherkuma explains gently.

"A foreigner? Oh, what's that like?!" Shirokuma exclaims, bursting with joy at that. Japanese people are gaga over American and European cultures, and they're typically ecstatic to meet foreigners who aren't Asian.

Motherkuma seems to share in Shirokuma's delight, as well, looking awed over meeting a foreigner, herself. "And you're a servant to royalty?! Royalty from Europe is in Japan right now?! That's so exciting!" Even Ball looks slightly enthused, but she's not going to let on that she, too, is excited.

A Promo stained in blood.

*You were going on about your business until you came across a Television giving a gruesome news report. The scene is at a PizzaHut Restaurant.*

News Reporter: “We are here at PizzaHut where a horrific scene has occurred. The murder of all the restaurant’s staff along with many of it’s customers in a horrific massacre. Only three survivors were found at the scene. A young man with two little kids by his side. We are about to question him on the scene now.” *The camera moves over to a boy with red and blonde hair. He had an eye patch, a facial scar, and a purple eye. He was wrapped in some bandages as two kids was seen hugging him while whimpering.* “Tell us, young man. What is your name?”

“B-Bastion. I’m telling you man, i-It was horrible, man. W-We just came in to enjoy some pizza when suddenly some deranged maniac came in and started killing everyone! All because the employee had the wrong toppings on their pizza! It’s madness! Scared the hell out of my siblings and I. I did my best to stop the killer, but-” *The young man grown in pain as he grips his stomach. A red stain appears on the bandages.*

“BIG BRO!” *The two kids were on the verge of tears as Bastion fell over, with the doctors coming over to tend to his wounds.*

News Reporter: “Such a brave young man. We’ll have more to tell as the story unfolds. Back to you, Ken.”

Ken: “Thanks Barbie. As of this moment, no clues have arrived pointing to the identity of the murderer in question nor their whereabouts. So for now, stay vigilant and be careful. If you find any clues regarding any potential suspects, please inform the police immediately. We’ll have more after his commercial break.” *The report ends there as it goes to a random commercial. Someone stands next to you, looking at the screen.*

“Bloody Lance.” *Hm? Does he know something about the crime scene? Do you question him about it?*

Alright, so, today on Bandit does analysis, we're gonna talk about this scene right here:

Where the Monokubs screwed up and didn't change any of these kids' costumes or download their first memory and do any brain rewriting and so they all woke up as still themselves in a scene that definitely wasn't supposed to happen at all, nuh-uh, nope.

Except.

I wanna talk about this.

This right here.

Tsumugi having a normie outfit.

Like.

Why does this even exist.

If everyone was supposed to show up already in their new costumes with their new memories intact, then why does Tsumugi have a normie costume?

If this is a mistake, Tsumugi should be showing up in her Ultimate Cosplayer costume ready to go because everyone else should also be showing up as Ultimates. In fact, there's no reason for Tsumugi to not show up in her Ultimate costume. Even in the case of a mistake (as the Monokubs are assumed to have made), all of these kids are going to have their minds wiped anyway, so they won't remember Tsumugi was already in her costume.

There is no reason for Tsumugi to have this outfit.

Unless.

This scene was always supposed to be here.

The only people who Tsumugi would need to wear this costume for are the viewers, which means that this scene was definitely plotted, the kids were all definitely supposed to do this, and the viewers were meant to see it to set up for the reveal later on.

Which would mean that the reveal was always intended - at least by Tsumugi, even if not by Team Danganronpa themselves.

(It is entirely possible that Tsumugi has cobbled this outfit together from her personal cosplay; I think it was @funishment-time who pointed out that this looks extremely similar to Haruhi's sailor outfit, which would definitely keep it from being something the costuming department was aware of or made. The colors are different, but like. Tsumugi's a cosplayer; she's got the skills to change all that.)

OR.

Tsumugi's a normal student who had her mind rewritten just like everyone else in the Game did.

The Monokubs did screw up, and Tsumugi really wasn't writing any of this until she's well into the Game (and then they've downloaded what she needs to improv as she goes. and programmed Motherkuma to listen to her voice. ahead of time. somehow (seeing all the other stuff they're able to do, this probably isn't actually a stretch, just incredibly creepy)).

Tsumugi's just a normie like everyone else. Everything - everything - is fake, including Tsumugi herself.

Like, there is literally no other reason for Tsumugi to have that costume and show up in this scene wearing it. At least none that I can think of, although I'm sure someone else can/will, and I'm. super looking forward to that, actually! Because I look forward to other opinions!

But. Yeah. Analysis done. For now.

could they rebuild him? maybe? all i want is a reunion with keebo and the survivors (VERY small survivor pool this time btw)

i'm going to be thinking about keebo nonstop for days fyi

guys, i gotta be real with you. this was the most unsatisfying horseshit. it felt like nothing mattered, and honestly it felt like they were making a mockery of us for enjoying the previous games and content. i didn't like it. and honestly it felt...lazy? like i had been speculating so much about how this would connect with the rest of the danganronpa plot and how this would build upon the already established story and characters. like you should've seen the theories i had in my head (one of my best ones: tsumugi was a rogue hope's peak student who idolized junko and wanted to do a killing game in her honor. keebo was a plant from makoto and the future foundation/academy to guide the others and eventually help lead to their rescue - that would've been a great plotline tbh). but no, none of that happened, it didn't build on the story, it didn't add to it, it wasn't part of the same story. it was just............nothing. it didn't lead anywhere, it didn't build up to anything. it just went nowhere and did nothing, it wasn't connected. it felt like all the investigating i did to find out the truth was a waste of time, and all the plot twists and turns that happened and all the choices the characters made had no fucking payoff. it was so frustrating. there are so many creative choices they could've made to build on the story in the danganronpa world but...that meta bullshit was not it.

in other news, i have already started writing a fanfiction: an alternate version of v3 that actually takes place in-universe, therefore making all the games connected! and i think what i've thought up is pretty good, ngl. it might be related to that theory i mentioned above. if you're interested in reading, lmk and i'll work to write it faster!

and thus officially concludes my v3 gameplay commentary! i might post here and there about my experiences in the bonus modes as i do them

Not to spoil too much, but do you think that the mastermind of V3 had to take certain steps to keep the blood pink?

Given the Future Arc of the DR3 anime, that is something I genuinely wonder about.

There are two times in the franchise where blood is depicted as normal. The first is the room where the school council killing was carried out in DR1. These bloodstains are over a year old and are presented in all their dried out brownness. So apparently pink blood dries to the same color as red.

The second is Future Arc. It's never explained why the blood in Future Arc is red. I, personally, believe it's meant to be symbolic. The Final Killing Game is the only one that features no involvement from Junko whatsoever. It's all Tengan orchestrating a false flag attack.

Since Junko isn't involved, the psychopop goes with her. Thus explaining why everything in Future Arc is ugly grays and boring dimly-lit corridors.

So, V3's in an interesting spot in this regard. It's a LARP, but also Junko is present. Tsumugi cosplays as Junko when she meets with Motherkuma which implies a role for Junko in her script.

So, did they have to, like, inject all the middle-reality actors with food coloring to make the pink blood happen? Or do people in the middle-reality conveniently also have pink blood? Or did Junko's Junko-ness bring on the psychopop and make the blood pink by sheer force of personality? It's hard to say.

I'll Call the Shots

A Danganronpa short story I'm probably not going to finish, so I'll just put a chunk of it here. I'll consider it practice. ^^

Prompt: Cue the typical AU where Shuichi commits murder instead of Kaede. In this setting, Shuichi finds out about Kaede's plan (and then confronts her about it), but then kills the "Mastermind," in a different trap set in the same library. I was originally going to have them catch the real mastermind too, but I think that idea should be scrapped, given that Motherkuma over there sniTchiNg everything to Tsumugi, so... yeah. Pfpft. ヽ(´▽`)/✨

It all started when Kaede was lining up the bookcases along the top shelf of the library.

..No. It started even before then, just a day ago and perhaps even the day before. He should have noticed that something was off- how finicky and secretive she had seemed to have been. Shuichi might have only known her for a couple of days at best, but he thought that the characteristics of the pianist he had come to know in a short span had been a bit out of character- or maybe it was just him imagining things. Earlier, when they were in the warehouse she had hurriedly hid and stuffed something into her bag when he had approached her after searching for any cameras that they could use.

At first, Shuichi thought that it might have been some feminine hygiene products that she didn't want him to see, which was perfectly normal, so he had pretended not to notice. But the more he thought about it, it was strange to the detective that she had took anything in the particular area that held nothing but track field equipment. He doubled back to the Warehouse to confirm his suspicions that yes, there was nothing remotely close by that should have been of interest… not to mention that Kaede seemed not to be the type to be flustered by such things, but he couldn't be too sure.

So what was she hiding? The only things close that could possibly fit in the bag in the section was the shotput balls, strength pulling ropes, and some weights. It could of been that she was interested in building muscles for defense. It wouldn't be too far fetched, given what kind of game they were forced to participate in. But that shouldn't have been a reason for her to shove any of those items in.

He had been contemplating why when the traitorous thought had crossed him.

Was Kaede.. plotting a murder?

Although he had only known the pianist for a few days, denial was at the forefront of his mind, venomously denying that such an upbeat, sweet girl would ever think of committing murder, especially since the pianist had been super insistent on stopping the killing game. She stood up to Monokuma defyingly, staring down at him with an ambitious glare.

But then why would she do it? She didn't seem the type to plan out a murder out of malicious intent, or to even plan out an escape for herself. He could only draw a few conclusions, but the most prominent stuck out to him, seeing that she had indeed set up a ramp upon the library's shelves.

When he had mentioned the possibility of a mastermind to her, that they could potentially enter into the hidden room when the timer ran out… when she had said that she was going to end this killing game, maybe she was planning on stopping it by killing the mastermind. Not capturing- "killing", because what else was she going to do with a shotput ball with a ramp in the library? It was his fault that Kaede had even spurred any of her actions to plan a murder.

He thought about.... confronting her about it in private. Would she deny it? Would she pretend to be persuaded by him to not go through with it, but then find another way to go through with her plan? There was still the slight possibility that his assumption wrong, (he still was an apprentice after all), but the evidence he had observed so far was damning. His heart felt heavy at the mere thought of raising an accusing finger at her, someone who had essentially taken him under her wing in a place like this.

And when she cusped his hand in hers in the classroom after listening to him offering her support, the words that he had wanted to say to Kaede had nearly on his lips.

He… yesterday night, when he was in the library, he had put up the vent grate again and even blocked the ramp for good measure. Even if he said nothing, Kaede would have no way to follow through with her plan. She shouldn't… have to shoulder the weight of something like that. Her hands would remain clean.

He looked at her from underneath the brim of his hat. She sat there across from him with a gentle smile on her face, the light from the room bouncing off her eyes.

He… still couldn't believe that Kaede out of all people was planning on committing murder. He just had to ask the question. He could say it. He could ask her. He just needed to gather his words. He took a breath.

"Ah… Kaede, just one more thing. I need to ask- …no, tell you something important."
