Overall I think these joint exercises have a history of East and North competing for who has the better soldiers (which is exactly where the rivalry between Olivier and Roy comes from). So at the same time we have the Mustgang/east group that are just as much dumbasses as those at Briggs, so it would be a big mess.

There were fireworks after that. The kind that belonged on a soap opera and Danny wished he had popcorn for it. Unfortunately he was stuck disrespecting physics for the time being.

Episode 8 review (long af)

I want to start this by saying that I will include some talk-points I saw in other posts and that I don't hate the people who made them just the opinions and that we shouldn't fight each other but try to reach the company for improvements. Let's go! This includes spoilers btw.

The episode itself was pretty bad just because the premise was... I guess childish. From the moment I finished Ep 7 and saw the preview for Ep 8 I thought about a moment from HSL, specifically Ep 12 where Candy (Lynn) spies on Lysander to see his back tattoo. When I played that episode I was a teen and I thought it was exciting. Our Candy was also a teen so we can say that what she did was more justifiable since teenagers do crazy stuff all the time. Plus, Lynn's intention was pretty innocent, she just was curious about this boy's tattoo that happened to be on his back. Here is completely different. I am not a teen anymore, and neither are Ysaline or her co-workers. They're probably in their late 20s (at least some). I find this scenario a bit too much for a bunch of adults. I don't care that they're friends, friends should respect each other's boundaries. A good friend wouldn't pull this kind of shit. They all acted as if they were going so see a magic trick or a concert or a famous person, not their friend naked. Why would you want to see that? Just because he "implied" that he's fine with it? What did they expect would happen? Did they though he would laugh out and be like "Haha, you got me" fully naked? This feels like what a bunch of bullies would plan to do with someone. The rest of the episode was ok-ish but having all around this weird stuff it makes me hard to like anything about it. I must admit that there were moments when we would talk about other stuff and it was truly ok and nice, but this is like finding the needle in the haystack.

This goes back to what BV originally planned for this season, to be set in high school. I bet this was a concept for an episode when that was still going. Would be more ok if these people were teens? Maybe... or maybe not. Do you know why? Because most of us are adults and that's why BV made a game with mostly adults having adult life with jobs and stuff and let's not forget... NSFW. And as an adult, I know better than spying on a naked man is creepy and illegal.

Now let's talk about the characters.

Let's start with Roy. He was very nice in the whole episode. He tried to play along but it really looked like he was uncomfortable at some point. And I bet if he could, he would tell others more firmly to stop but he's just such a sweet guy and probably endures for the sake of his friends. He's always sweet and even when he pulled the prank on everyone he even had the idea for all to play with water guns. He acted so nice. We love you, Roy! <3

Speaking of his BFF Devon who just disappointed me. I really thought he would be the first to speak up against this, not the one who started it. I get you're like bros and stuff but AGAIN, do you want to see your bro naked? And if yes, why? Do you have something to confess? What's so funny about embarrassing someone? I didn't get a good look at this route so I can't tell how he is with Candy, but this is not ok. Please, make this better BV.

Thomas. He was an absolute menace. Going from childish remarks to planning all of this to acting like he's in a spy movie (I didn't mind that part but CONTEXT). As I get to know him more and more I realize that he's more of a villain. Knows stuff about people and uses that against them. I get that he's like Mr Robot, but at least in his case, he did what he did because he thought he was doing something good. Thomas just likes to fuck with people. I get it, his moment was pretty cute and moments with him and Candy are cute generally, but let's not sweep this thing under the rug. He likes to lie, remember? I really hope this was a one-time thing. Pls BV. Like he has based moments and this runs it.

Amanda did really grow on me in this episode. Like if before I couldn't stand her now I'm on her side. Whatever you need girl, I'm here for you. She was the first one to step in and say no which was nice. She also said some other nice stuff to us proving she's a girl's girl. I hope this is not a one-time thing because if she goes back to her bad attitude the next episode I'll just hate her again. Sorry!

Jason was very himself this episode. Nothing to note. I liked his moment but I hate how Candy went overboard and basically imagined them making out. What? Is this how you develop feelings for a person? By fantasizing about kissing them? That came out of nowhere. I mean yeah, she could talk about how he makes her feel and stuff but straight up imagining a fanfic on the spot? And I hate the direction his route goes. Candy always being in distress and vulnerable, and this gentleman shows up to save her. Cool, but when do we have a mature moment... and not that kind of mature. I guess we have to wait and I hope it's worth it. I want to know about him more. What's with his dad and mom, his family in general, his past, you know. So let's stop doing weird shit and start exploring these characters BV.

Girl 1 and 2 were very not nice. They just went along with the plan, especially Elenda, who... let's just say I don't like how she's presented most of the time. I get she's s fun bubbly girl, but idk... it's just the situation that makes it worse not her as a person. Brune... You're asking what's wrong with Roy? What's wrong with you?

The illustrations were fire. I must admit, I love them. I see a lot of improvements. The lighting and colors blend very well. Props to the artist/(s?). My favorite is, you guessed, Thomas'. Yeah, he always has nice illustrations. Although, I don't get the whole going naked with him on the beach. Like, we barely know the guy. Same for the others, except Amanda, because she's a girl.

Now, let's talk about the community response. I feel like, at first, everyone was pretty upset, and rightfully and some were just "We're not that upset because it's just a game guys, shut up. You're just hating". Well, of course, some are going to exaggerate but most of us have valid reasons to be upset. Saying that this is just a game and we should leave if we don't like it it's just straight up BS arguments. I've seen this argument everywhere and I am sick and tired of that. I won't leave no matter what because not only do I love this game, but I also love the community and everything that makes it. It's not just a game, it's something I invested time and money and I won't let that go to waste. Also, I can use the same arguments against those people. Most of us here want to just enjoy this game and chat about it. Stuff like this will appear all the time. Let's just say what we have to see and hope the game gets better. And you're lucky I don't remember every single one of these people's arguments because I would said more. Also, WE KNOW that MCL is not representative of reality or that is has some sort of educational purpose. We're not asking for realism, we're asking for a decent plot. It's that so hard to do?

Lastly, BV made a pr response on the forum where they said that they saw the backlash and that they can't do anything about the episode or the other episodes but that will improve in the future. I.. I want to believe them. Truly. So, please, for the love of God, don't pull this sort of stuff again. Ok? Please.

The main reason I don't connect at all with having been younger is because my personality shifts are especially extreme and my autism was not well managed and I had no helpful adults in my life for a long time so I was in a really bad place for a really bad time. The only part of my life I feel anything but intense cringe or regret for starts in 2020.

I feel like I didn't experience manhood mostly because of that autism. I had zero friends and did nothing offline until high school, when I had one who was also kinna an outcast. He had a bunch of friends who weren't me but were mostly girls, idk if that reflects anything about him. The people I spent the most time with were my cousins who never treated me in an especially gendered way. I feel like my most masculine experiences were not getting to keep my hair long or play with Barbies.

Of course, logically speaking, I did probably benefit over an AFAB child at some point because I was thought to be a boy, but being thought to be a boy was itself damaging, so it overall was an L for both of us. Lotta damage to a lotta people in a lotta ways in this society.

Yet even still, I have so many masculine interests. Shonen anime shaped not just my life, but my personality. That's another way I feel a kinship with transmasc fujoshis, who look at men in anime and say "I want that for myself." I'm not a man but I understand being a girl and seeing that appeal. One might say that in my case it's just hitting it's target audience, it's normal for boys to model themselves after boys media, but idk! I'm not a boy! I, however, unlike other AMAB trans women who should never have to describe themselves this way if they don't want, am male. I am a male woman. I think a lot of transmasc people, who see themselves as female men or are non-binary,* can understand finding how a sense of "maleness" and womanhood can both fit together.

And it is specifically anime. Lately I've been more down with having a lot of body hair because I think it's hot for me as a male woman to have body hair, but I still hate facial hair aesthetically and think it's immensely uncomfortable to have for reasons that don't even have anything to do with gender. If I hadn't ever been into Dragon Ball specifically I probably wouldn't want to be buff, either. But how can I not, with this being the very peak of childish coolness to me?

Most of the non-Dragon Ball men I wanted to model myself after still got called fags by philistines. Even Toriyama's style wasn't quite like Araki's early stuff, where men were huge hulking bricks of solid testosterone, because Toriyama's faces always had a soft cartoonishness to them. Now when people want to draw me I specify I want to be visibly AMAB but the two examples I use are a really clocky cis woman and icon of raw masculinity Chris Motionless.

So that's my experience growing up with a socially reinforced gender assignment.

Caboose is easily the most naive and childish of team blue. It's what's made it easy for him to make friends. To him, you and Church were his best friends!

Yet to you... you found him an annoyance.

At times he was cute, yes, but you were often tired of catering to him. You'd much rather go and talk with someone else. Like Church... a "friend" of yours...

Yet it appears you had to cater to him too.

"Look, is it so wrong for me to not like him?" Church scoffs as you glare him from behind your visor.

"You act like I can't just speak to people, Church. I can speak to Tucker, I can speak to Caboose, and I'm not having you throw a fit about it!" You bark back, only to see Church cross his arms.

"A fit!? I'm not-!" Church fires back before you both hear someone call your name. There's a long pause between you both before you let out a groan. You know that voice...

It's Caboose, looking for you once again to hang out.

"Alright, well, Church..." You start, looking back st the other blue soldier. "I really don't want to deal with Caboose right now. He's just going to pull me into another little game of his."

"And?" Church urges you to continue.

"Could you distract him for me? Just so I can go hide?" You plead. Church grumbles under his breath before slowly nodding, appearing to think about something in his head. You take this as confirmation and run off.

You probably should've expected Church wouldn't help you like you asked. Especially after the argument you last had. Yet... it's wishful thinking.

As the two got closer you could hear Caboose whining to Church. You can hear the annoyance in Church's voice and the desperation of Caboose. Church seemed to be struggling to have the younger soldier leave him alone. You feel bad for ignoring the kid... but you can only take so much.

You quickly peak from your hiding spot to see if they were gone. Unfortunately... you meet Church's eyes. You swore you could've sensed him smirking underneath his helmet.

"Oh, Caboose! I think I see them right over there!" Church exclaims in a teasing tone before gesturing to your spot. Your heart stops...

Rage bubbles in you.

"Oh my Gosh! Hi, friend! I missed you, where were you!?" Caboose greets you with a hug before you pry him off you with a groan. You try to walk away from him yet he follows you like a lost dog.

"Not interested, Caboose." You try to say but he only continues babbling. You once again try to walk away but Caboose mentions a game he wants to play before dragging you off with insane strength.

However... you catch Church trying to leave the area.

You could almost taste the revenge....

"Caboose!" You call, the younger blue soldier looking towards you with glee.

"Yes, friend?" He tilts his head and you make eye contact with Church.

"How about you invite Church? After all... we're all friends, aren't we?" You offer and Caboose looks towards Church. You catch Church shaking his head but Caboose bounds over to drag him too.

You laugh to yourself softly... if Church is going to make you suffer... you're taking him down with you.

You're then sat beside Church in front of Caboose. You two don't look at each other... only the soldier in front of you. Said soldier was still bouncing in place... incredibly eager.

"Okay! I'm going to prepare the game... stay right here! I'll be right back!" Caboose coos before running off.

It's then Church snaps to you.

"Why the Hell did you drag me into this!?" Church yells at you, you only scoff.

"Well you sold me out!" You snarl back. Church groans, his frustration building.

"Uh huh... well maybe if you stopped talking to other guys, I would have sided with you!" Church yells back, catching you off guard.

"What?"

"Yeah, you know what? Maybe this is a good thing for you and me. Maybe Caboose is just being matchmaker?" Church continues... you start to come to a dreaded realization.

"Church... you didn't-"

"Oh yeah, you know what? This was planned." Church huffs. "Caboose cares about you, I love you, it's a win-win. Although I'd much rather us be alone... I'll settle for this."

"There's no way." You're at a loss of words. "Church, you-"

sam and penny... dumping a lot of headcanon thoughts about them under the cut. mostly musing about their relationship and how compatible/incompatible they are, and what i see the trajectory of an attempted relationship being like.

ljskldgjlj wondering if with penny-sam if it'd be more like. this one-sided thing? sam not being disinterested per se, but certainly not being as invested. (he never even talks about her or comments if you marry her.) but he apparently was at a point with her where he lifted her up into a tree???? (according to vincent's dialogue during penny's 8-heart event.) and they do hang out… i have a feeling that it was like… penny feeling stuck and boxed in and like she doesn't have many prospects, romantically or otherwise? but that she's ashamed of her living situation and wants something more. plus, she really, really wants kids. and sam's family situation is complicated, but he's not a complicated person, and he's nice and he talks to her and engages with her, even if he's a little childish. and at first that wouldn't bother her, because she likes children. and he forces her to break out of being so traditional at times, even if she's uncertain if they'd be compatible. but i think she'd really grow tired of things if they got married and he wouldn't help out with things around the house. he'd help with kids, but not really anything else. and she'd feel like he's just one more person she has to mother. outside of children, i have trouble seeing them have much overlap interest-wise, too.

on sam's end… he loves to talk to people and sometimes sebastian has cranky days where he doesn't wanna hang out, and he doesn't totally get it but that's fine. that's just how sebastian is. he'll chat with anyone, especially if he gets starved for socialization. he'd talk to penny at first because of vincent, and then he'd chat her up when he'd see her around sometimes. eventually she'd start approaching him. she's bad with conversation so he mostly carries it, even if they don't have much in common other than vincent. and he's way more spontaneous than she is, but she's bad at saying no, so she comes along, even if he proposes something a little outside her comfort zone (climbing a tree together by his house for some privacy). she's someone to talk to, and she's pretty. and she's responsible in ways he isn't, and maybe that's something he likes about her?

so i think it's somewhat one-sided (mostly in their mismatched intensity about it), but sam would just be faintly interested back. stuff like the flower dance… i have a feeling he'd be pretty amiable about it, because at least she's friendly with him, so it makes things less awkward. but i think his interest only being faint explains why he just never talks about her, and why he stops hanging out with her once he gets interested in the farmer, instead. he's always been bad with his focus, anyway. shifting from one thing to another. forgetting things.

penny at least comments if you marry sam, but nothing else. he doesn't do the same for if you marry her. so that also feels like an indicator of disinterest on some level.

Oh god Anon, I hope you haven't been waiting for too long, legit didn't get any notifications for this on my inbox!! I will be putting this under a read more too!! Cause it got a bit long lmao

Okay now about Richas' personality (I might forget some stuff cause I do have really bad memory, so if anyone wants to add stuff please feel free too!!) the most basic things about him is that he is a very energetic kid, always jumping around and writing a lot of signs (his parents often complain about how hard it is to take pictures of him sometimes, cause he refuses to stop moving, I'm almost sure that he canonically has adhd) is a pretty artsy kid, he paints a lot and likes to paint stuff for the people he likes (like yesterday, he painted some stuff for Foolish) he is also a bit jealous of his dads (probably due to being afraid of being left alone after so many of his parents being taken in front of him, for awhile he refused to take pictures without his dads too)

He is also very playful, always coming up with play pretend character to mess around with his dads (like pescados from mexico, zé caveira, dotovo) so he can say that he likes to act, and he also adapts easily to the person who he is with, being a lot more playful and childish with tazercraft for example while with Cellbit he tends to be more of a little detective, by helping with theories, enigmas and things like that.

Now, about his lore with Romero Richas, as far as we know that's the only character he does that is not a play pretend, it's legit something he cannot control and that scares him a lot (like on that day with Talullah, he was terrified of the painting) it's a thing that started around the time that Cellbit came back from the feds I believe (a bit before the guapoduo wedding) and it stopped from awhile with the whole elections arc, mostly what seems to happen when romero richas takes over (also we do not know exactly what romero richas is, mostly it seems to be an entity, like a ghost or a demon) is that he paints some stuff (mostly on the brazilian painter "Romero Britto" style, it's where the name came from) and leaves messages behind in english, usually on Richas' room at Cellbit's castle, currently the entity seems to be asleep, we are not sure if they will return or not.

But mostly I would say that Richas is very playful, energetic and likes adventure (one of the ways Forever would ground him for not wearing armor back in the day was by forbidding him to go exploring with Forever, since that's something Richas really likes to do) and he acts like a pretty independent egg, always going back and forth between the people he likes to spend time with when his dads are not online (like Bad or Foolish)

Teachers:

Korosensei

This one is really contravertial because everyone loves him so much but I don't really get the hype. In my AU, he's more human like and is less of a perfect teacher but more like a really informed, fun teacher that makes learning fun, tells jokes and seems to know everything. He loves telling jokes, is always there to talk to and is the more approachable teacher. He always had a passion for teaching and helping people and longed for something more than his assassin life (also he's known as the grim reaper for being a quick, cutthroat assassin, not the best one). He starts teaching during one of his jobs and enjoys it so much he starts to live a double life. One of his students (Grim reaper 2.0) feel he is too professional and cold (which he is in this point in time due to his job) and finds out about his life, then sells him out. When experimented on, he's angry, but mostly disappointed he couldn't teach more until Aguri steps in. She teaches him how to be fun. When she dies, she hands over her class and Korosensei realises while teaching them that he doesn't want to die, he wants to keep teaching.

Karasuma Tadaomi

Serious, strict and proffessionl teacher that gets stuff done and is very practical and organised. Although he started off distant, he starts to care for the students nad grows closer to both Irina and his students over time. He might not be as friendly as Korosensei or Irina, but you can always trust him to listen and make the right call.

Irina Yelavić

Younger teacher that know the gossip, plays matchmaker, knows the lingo and how to sound like a native speaker in a new language. A bit of a diva and trashy y2k lover. Grew up oversexualised so doesn't understand why that's wrong until she realises that what she went through wasn't normal and she wouldn't want her students to experience that. She then starts a journey of healing her past trauma and gets a happy ending with Karasuma (and their adopted child, Karma).

Class parents/ leaders:

Megu Kataoka

Class rep #1. Ordered, likes rules and organised. Has a lot on her plate. Her grades dropped when she had too much on her plate so grades weren't her top priority. She learns to balance her work load and look after herself.

Yuuma Isogai

Class rep #2. Friendly, approachable, kind and calm. Very warm and although he always seems to be under pressure/stressed, he is a strong, thoughtful leader that is very condiserate and humble. Can be passive aggressive and 'fake.'

Sumire Hara

Class mom with a big purse instead of a schoolbag. Has a comical amount of supplies in there and a medkit. Does many scoldings and even Karma will listen to them. Comfort eats and bakes so will often randomly come to school with cookies made at 3:00am.

Toka Yada

Pretty, entitled girl who learnt how to get away with things. Learns to take responsibility for her actions via Megu and realises she doesn't actually like men, just what they can do for her (lets go lesbians). Fell to E-Class due to failing to manipulate boys to do her work. Learns that manipulation is bad and to be herself/childish. Looks up to Miss Bitch.

Yukiko Kanzaki

Gamer girl that seems more refined than she is. Likes RPGs to cutomise avatars and likes to be the 'leader' in groups/be in control because she feels like she isn't in control of her own life. Can be really really passive aggressive but after learning how to accept her flaws, she becomes more chill. Likes Sugino and his devotion to her.

Asano Gakushu

This isn't a personality change, just an appearance change.

Do you think toh needs a reboot? There's lots of things that I don't like how were handled in the show but it's also painful to give up on them when you think of the better ways they could've worked out, characters, backstory, plot, everything in general.

I wouldn't mind a reboot tbh, but then again you mentioned that the show isn't quite concious of it's own identity. So I guess unless they work with better writers, it won't make a big difference even with the time needed.

The short version of this is that TOH's inherent flaws mean that… No. A reboot won't help it, it'd be a nightmare to try and adapt or reboot in general and it's never going to see one in animation that could improve much on the version we got except for cleaning up mistakes made because the writers weren't thinking about the consequences of their character's actions.

And this mostly has to do with its crises of identity being a very core part of its image at this point. If you try to refine it into an adventure series, into a school drama, into a more traditional fantasy story or one of the half dozen identities you could place on TOH, it becomes effectively a different show. It's going to feel different, it's going to be different, etc. like that.

So the first problem with even conceptualizing a reboot is you have all these disparate, clashing elements that barely interact and never were enabled to properly interact in the show so… What do you emphasize, what do you de-emphasize? Because no matter what, you're pissing SOMEONE off. If you lean into the childish nature of S1 then you annoy people who prefer the darker, more serious tone to S2. If you lean into the school stuff, Eda's plotline with her sister becomes more neglected and S1 doesn't feel as coherent while Belos feels like even less of a figure than he already does. If you lean more into the Owl Family, you lose as much time with Amity so her character arc is going to suffer, Lumity takes longer to happen naturally and you probably get called racist because people already call the show racist for how little it cares about Gus and Willow.

Quick note for another blog: I don't think race had literally anything to do with Gus and Willow's treatment. They simply stop having a place in the narrative post S1, even arguably after Luz becomes friends with Amity. They look the way they do for design variance and demographic numbers and that's probably it.

Anyways: No matter what, you cannot fix the conceptual problem of TOH being everything that Dana wanted to say and do alongside throwing in the kitchen sink. The only way to smooth out The Owl House is to literally smooth it out. Just flatten it into five or more seasons so it has the time to breathe and actually explore EVERY concept and even then… Yeah, that definitely gets into needing better writers than TOH has who can follow through on the ideas they have. After all, just because they would have more time doesn't mean they have the skill.

And you would need that promise from go so the writers could plan that out properly and… That's never going to happen. Especially not for serialized content like The Owl House, not in the current media landscape that we have. This isn't even because the show is bad. Quality has VERY little to do with whether something gets renewed nowadays. And if you want to get renewed consistently beyond three seasons (and iffy on even that) you need to hit one of two different options.

The first is for broadcast television where ease of programming, cheapness, and advertising is king. This is where you get why Teen Titans Go has two movies and a billions episodes. That show is entirely episodic and thus very easy to break up, throw into a hole in your broadcast schedule, easy to make marathons because you can just slap a bunch together without care, etc. like that. The animation is also incredibly simply and the show in general is probably very cheap to produce. Its writing style of literally anything goes adds to this fact. Cartoon Network can probably make five episodes of Teen Titans Go with the budget Disney gives for ONE Owl House episode and it works better for the company's goals monetarily.

And yes, Teen Titans Go is bad. It's WAY worse than The Owl House. But quality doesn't matter here. What matters is that it's easy, it's cheap, it has brand identity and is easy to merchandise. It is profitable, safe and people see it as easy to sit their child in front of for when they need the television to babysit.

The other option is streaming services and you're not going to get a 100 episode contract for a streaming service. Yes, they want cliffhangers and serialization to make sure you binge and continue subscribing even between seasons but that's also why streaming services are all or nothing. You either are so big that you will continue to pull people for months after your release or they don't care about your small squad of dedicated fans.

And TOH… Didn't become a cultural phenomenon. It was genuinely nothing special to most people, if they'd even heard of it, until Grom. Outside of that, it was just known that it had above average animation when it launched and… That's literally all I ever heard about TOH until I joined the fandom inbetween S1 and 2. And by then Netflix would have cancelled the show most likely.

Because TOH didn't break any records. It didn't light the world on fire. It didn't even cause some giant discourse that rattled through the internet on all fronts. And that means streaming services would probably rather invest in another attempt at a new Walking Dead or Game of Throne rather than continue the show. It's those record breaking numbers that got Velma and Wednesday renewed after all, not their quality or anything like that. (This isn't me condoning these practices btw. I think it's a real problem like everyone else and that it has to do with a lot of focus on short term gain rather than long term retention but I'm rambling enough as is)

And The Owl House never had that clout. Ever. I mean, how many people always had to add caveats to what made The Owl House special like "On Disney" or "in a prime time kid's show" rather than the show actually being special on its own merits? Especially now? There is one last option and that's of course a reboot that doesn't happen in the next five years but instead is closer to 20 when enough time has passed that radical changes might be allowed. That's the Voltron and She-Ra method effectively. Except... That's where we get the fact that Voltron and She-Ra were big properties at their time, never truly forgotten and have strong nostalgia attached to them. They pushed toys, they pushed consumers and those IPs had a real value to them, even to the current day but to revive them took a delicate touch because cartoons are different now. And TOH just doesn't have that power. That impact and care. And there is a LOT to be said about how it's much harder for shows to have that sort of impact nowadays but that's beyond the scope of this blog. The main point is that in 20 years, why would a studio choose to give TOH that much love and attention versus any of the other cancelled animation projects around this time? Especially something that did get to do its full run like Amphibia?

So… Is there a way The Owl House could get the time it needs to explore its whole identity and possibly become better? Yes? In a webcomic, manga or book. Animation is simply too expensive a medium and not regarded well enough that it's going to get the time but things like webcomics, manga and books are known for being more drawn out, able to do more with that space and more independent because the overheads are a LOT less than other mediums. After all, you only have to pay one writer and maybe a couple editors for a book.

But… I don't think Dana has the skill or attention span for any of those mediums. Not if she's working solo. If you look at her solo episodes in TOH, they have some really powerful moments and statements in them… And also some of the most meh B plots, some of the larger narrative cheats, show blatant disregard for her own world building and even at times had to have major plot points in them retconned by future writers because Dana wrote the show into a corner while trying to be clever. It shows someone who would be much better on an anthology series or an episodic series than ANYTHING serialized.

Remember, Dana wrote Reaching Out, where everyone just forgets that being a Wild Witch is met with the death penalty and is not just equivalent to college, which is how Amity and Alador treat it, let alone the twins celebrating becoming outlaws like they just joined a special club.

So in general, I don't think The Owl House is going to see a revival or the like. I think the best thing that could happen to The Owl House's legacy is that people figure out which parts they like the best and go on to make media inspired by those parts of TOH. Because I feel bad for anyone who tries to adopt TOH as a whole.

Because I just don't think it's possible to capture TOH's essence without also bringing along its crises of identity. The two are too intertwined and that was always going to hold the show back.

Céfiro is the Spanish version of the name Zephyr which means west wind. I wanted his name to be flighty, I can't explain it well. But I wanted it to be fluid in a way but not relating to water. So, wind!

It's actually kind of unfortunate cause the Destan-Mixtio kids don't actually exist in a lot of my ad vitam aus?? So I haven't thought of very many!!

Céfiro has an unfortunate amount of nightmares about his and Araceli's time on the streets. Céf always made a point to protect 'celi, even if she didn't know it. And as a result he's seen/experienced a lot of things he doesn't talk about, they tend to haunt him.

Nah Céfiro has stayed mostly the same.. Though I've fleshed out the differences between when we meet him as a teenager and how he is as an adult, but that's not really changing that's just.. growing up lmao?

Céfiro loooves tattoos.. It's why he becomes a tattoo artist lol

He's a jokester, he lovesss pranks too! His laugh is loud, it always gets others laughing too.

Okay.. Lol. Amelia Johnson is her name and I chose it because it sounded really stereotypical white eng american.

Being Alee's biological child but not Vesper's makes her feel a tad odd sometimes.. She overcompensates in a way by spending a lot of time doing stuff with Vesper! She's learned how to clean weapons, how to help xem if xyr motorcycle breaks down, and she has a bunch of fun mixology books based on games/books/movies/ect.

Marilla means 'Shining Sea' and this is because I wanted a water based name to match River! Her middle name is based off of Cirino's name cause she isss named after him.

She originally started as Alee and Vesper's adopted daughter in Criminal Minds au before becoming their first bio kid in canon. She used to not like them at all cause of being overprotective of River in that au

Her relationship with River is really sweet. She loves them dearly. She's protective of them and she'll do anything to keep them safe. Especially safe from what their respective clans expect from them. Hence her taking on the Mixtio mantle.

I am about to write soo much bullshit just because my heart was in disturbed state. Now I don't know whether I should continue or stop. The later cause I am mostly lazy to do everything now.

"Ah, it's not a big deal anymore. It hasn't happened in months."

Despite how boisterous he could be, the Oni was being surprisingly quiet all things considered. It was likely out of respect for Kyokai, since the other male was blind and the Oni was aware of the other senses being increased due to the loss of one sense. Or, so he read, anyway.

"It's alright, Kyo. I'm not worried about it, I've not done anything to warrant being attacked by beans."

He'd not really been in Hanamizuka for some time now, which wasn't too shocking since he'd been out and about with his gang. They'd been helping some of the areas that had been hit hard by Kairagi and Treasure Hoarders. While his boys couldn't really do much in the way of fighting, they were good at distracting the groups so the Oni and Shinobu could dispatch the enemies. Sure, it didn't pay much but they were typically given small baskets of produce, even if more than half of it was typically bruised. They didn't really care it was food and it could be cooked.

"Yeah, I know there's a few there but they're not too common, unless a storm is coming or recently hit. Or so I hear..."

He went a bit quieter mostly because he'd spotted one of the people who liked harassing him, which likely meant his friends were around. He'd inadvertently grip Kyokai's hand tighter but it would only be for a moment before the Oni's hold would return to how it'd been while he was relaxed and leading Kyokai to the kimono shop. He'd given the smaller male his word, he was an Oni of his word, therefore the other male was going to get to the kimono shop safely, then find something to eat while waiting for it to be repaired.

"Most of the time we don't even do anything bad, Kyo. It's just harmless fun and we don't steal anythin'. Not anymore, we didn't have much of a choice in the past though... not my proudest moments for sure."

Of course, the Oni and his gang never took ALL the food when they stole stuff, they'd take enough to eat a meal, then they'd scrounge through the various boxes and stuff scattered around the area they were staying in. Sometimes they got a good haul, other times, not so much. They all also learned how to fish which made eating that much easier. He'd once again lift his free hand and then slide it through as much of his hair as he could. He wasn't going to pick up the pace so they could evade the bean throwers, since he'd not done anything he hoped they'd just leave him alone.

"As for your eyes? They kind of remind me of what the ocean looks like at night during a storm, they're grey but there's also a slight bit of pink in there too."

The Oni's face would once more flush and if Kuki was watching him, she'd be seeing all his flustered reactions to Kyokai's words. He'd wind up rubbing the back of his neck and chuckling softly. He was more certainly NOT used to compliments, and if Kyokai could see him? He'd know that without question.

"You.. you uh, like my name huh? Thanks. Nobody other than Granny Oni has ever told me they liked my name, or described it like that really..."

He knew he was strong, he was an Oni, they were known for their strength, but he'd never been told his name sounded kindhearted before, it made his heart feel funny, though it only lasted a moment, not anything more than that. At least his hands weren't getting sweaty, because that would be HARD to explain. Mostly because the Oni wouldn't have any idea WHY it happened in the first place.

"Oh yeah, I know this is kinda out of the blue and all, but do you happen to have a place to crash at? Cause if not, my gang and I will happily let you stay with us!"

The Oni would swing their joined hands for a moment before he stopped, mostly because he wasn't sure why he'd done the action in the first place at all. It seemed almost childish, but not quite? He wasn't too sure how to describe it or think about it. Not at all. It was fine though, he could ask Kuki later. She'd know, she was one of the smartest people he knew after all. She knew a LOT and he had a feeling she'd know what caused him to do such a thing.

"Well, if there's somethin' you wanna try let me know and I can take you to the best place to get it!"

He'd be grinning again, though his cheeks would still be awash with quite a pretty shade of pink that had darkened to almost be akin to the markings on his cheeks. It was probably a good thing Kyokai couldn't see his face, but also maybe not?

"There's a place you can get a drink called 'Dango Milk' and I've heard it's good. Never tried it though, y'know, bean allergy and all that. It's made with soy milk I think. I'd rather not risk it."

He'd chuckle, still set on completely ignoring the people likely whispering behind the two, about how they were going to attack the Oni with a lot of beans to 'make up for lost time'. He'd never once retaliated, not as a kid, a teen, or young adult either. There was no reason for him to do so. He lived among the humans as a Crimson Oni after all.

"There's also a place you can sit down and enjoy some nice dishes, it's call Uyuu Restaurant. They serve various rice dishes, vegetable dishes, meat dishes. If you can think of it, they likely have it on the menu. They even have some Liyue dishes, only reason I know that is because I went there a few months ago. Shortly after the Sakoku Decree was lifted. It was great!"

His eyes widened, he knew Oni’s were allergic to beans but he didn’t know some people would throw some at the Oni, it was cruel…to see how far people’s prejudice goes it was sad to hear that it goes to a cruel level. People can be cruel to those they know nothing about or hardly understand…if only they’d open their minds just to see that what they misunderstood. His words still stand…it’s why kyo doesn’t really care about what people tell him…and those who give him their true kindness? They are more valuable and worth his more of his time than assholes really

“How cruel….to think they’d go that far as to take advantage of your allergy…that goes way too far…”

He says as he frowned softly, it was cruel, he does hope they were arrested for such crimes, it could kill him one day if no one stops this cruelty. The poor Oni was so nice going out of his way to help him to the city and even saved his life…! Why would people go this far is beyond him and saddening

He tilts his head once Itto starts talking about the Naku Weeds, now that he mentions it he does often times hear buzzing along with the concentration of electro in the air, that must be what’s making the vibrations so confusing for his senses

“Naku Weeds? So that’s the buzzing I keep hearing! Definitely does a good job messing with my sense of direction I’ll give it that, oh? My eyes? Out of curiosity what do blind eyes look like? No ones ever told me”

He asked curiously, Itto says he may not be smartest around but so far Kyo is thinking otherwise, to know how to tell when someone’s blind and to know what Naku Weed does to someone who’s senses are sensitive? He doubts the average person would know that, Kyo didn’t and it almost costed him.

The albino smiles softly, as he held his hand walking on their way as he gave a nod,

“Yes I have, and that’s what I thought honestly, just harmless people having some fun and trying to get others to have fun as well…I don’t see that as troublesome really….ive seen troublesome mischief and that dear Itto, isn’t it…”

He told him with a smile on his face, what he says is true, troublesome mischief is more so reckless pranks and sometimes making fun of someone. Sometimes people get hurt from that, for example if someone replaced someone’s shampoo with hair dye or an apple with a painted fake item for people to buy, that’s troublesome mischief in Kyo’s eyes. And from what he hears? Itto just wants people to have fun around him and have a good time…

His eyes widens as he hears Itto saying he likes his name, it made his heart buzzing with joy as it’s a name someone important to his life gave him, and he went by that name abandoning his birthgiven name and surname

“That makes me happy to hear, honestly I don’t mind if you call me Kyo, I’m just glad you like my name, you have a nice name too you know…strong sounding and yet so kindhearted”

He told him as he thinks about food like Itto mentioned, he was hungry but he still wants to treat Itto a thank you for what he’s done and what he’s doing, he doesn’t wanna let the Oni go without a thank you at all

“I heard the food is amazing there, honestly, I tried the food at Ritou and it was really good! So I’m excited to try some at inazuma city”

Headcanons of them from when they were young!

Sun Wukong used to have golden hair while Macaque's was white, like the 2009 version!

Wukong's hair was very puffy and messy because of all the crazy stunts he was always pulling. I think he had rather fluffy fur because he had to be warm to survive in the mountain, and his body found a way to not die of the cold

Macaque was rather thin, and even if his fur was really soft, it wasn't as fluffy as Sun Wukong's. That's the main reason why he mostly wore clothes or at least something to cover himself, along with the fact that he thinks the look pretty (they, in fact, do)

Wukong was pretty shy and didn't talk to anyone when he was first born. He was kind of an outcast. His looks always favoured him because he was considered one of the prettiest monkeys (he met everyone's standards lmao), but no one wanted to be near him because he was born from a stone. Isn't that abnormal?

Macaque was also an outcast at first. He's a demon monkey and not as good looking as SWK in monkey standards. Also, with his six ears, he didn't get to hang out with the monkeys that much because of how loud they were, since it made his ears hurt. A while after he came to life (i'm making it sound like he's some kind of Frankestein monster), the monkeys started to trust him a bit more since they saw that he wasn't going to attack them

At the time SWK was born (he was technically born older because he didn't have parents to take care of him. He hatched at an age where he could already survive on his own. Mac's body and mentality are the same as his. Kind of. SWK will ALWAYS be more childish than Mac fight me on this), Macaque was already considered trustworthy by everyone, so when he met this weird monkey and presented him to everyone else, they all trusted his judgement. Turns out he was right!

SWK used to hide behind Mac a lot. He was the first living being he ever met, and he was really shy around people he didn't know, so at first he stayed around Mac all the time until he finally warmed up to the others. This same thing happened every time they met new people

Even if SWK was pretty shy, he still was deadly honest (at least with his opinions). Meanwhile, Mac didn't really want to cause any trouble, so he usually stayed behind whenever his friend caused chaos (unless he invited him. Then you'd have two chaos creating monkeys)

Seriously, with how shy SWK is and how extroverted Mac is, you'd think the troublemaker wasn't the one who hid behind his friend every time he met someone new

Macaque is used to Sun Wukong being chaotic, so he didn't react much whenever he offended someone besides a exasperated look and a bit of scolding

Macaque was the one everyone trusted when it came to having a good reputation. Leave Wukong the beating people up stuff, please, he'll thank you for it with peaches

After getting over his shy stage, Sun Wukong was very talkative with Macaque. He always made sure to not talk too loud so that he wouldn't hurt his friend's ears, but still. Way too talkative

Sun Wukong was basically a sweetheart after meeting all the monkeys. Everybody loved him and how he shined. His light quickly blinded everyone more than Macaque's ever would (he wasn't mad or jealous about it, of course not. In fact, he was proud! And as long as they were still together, them he'd be fine) (too bad that didn't last lol)

Sometimes Macaque would take over Wukong's place by disguising himself as him just to save him from social interaction

Macaque: Isn't he sweet?

Macaque: *Manipulates people into doing what he wants, is a dark being who thrives on suffering*

Macaque and Wukong used to spar (play) a lot. After becoming so powerful the immortals feared him, Wukong had to hold back so that he wouldn't hurt Macaque too seriously

As Sun Wukong's anger grew, the more enemies he found, and the amount of people who attacked their home grew. In the present, Macaque resents him for not noticing

Sun Wukong never had a healthy way of letting go of his anger. Macaque never had a healthy way of letting go of his hatred. They bond

They call each other “Peaches” and “Plums” because they like peaches and plums. Macaque started it

They used to be sickeningly sweet. It was disgusting and adorable at the same time (“I swear it sometimes seemed like they wanted to live in eachother's skin,” Princess Iron Fan complains as MK writes down the information she's giving him)

They pulled a lot of pranks. A lot

Wukong was a great king! He just needed Macaque to actually send his orders because he got too nervous

When they grew apart, they mimicked a part of eachother's personalities because of how lonely they felt. That's why SWK seems so extroverted and Mac looks like he'd rather die before talking to anyone. Their dynamic is even more complicated now because of that haha. Blame the trauma

SWK genuinely believed that he was better than (almost) everyone else, except for Mac. Mac is the one who was the same as him

I'm leaning towards asexual penguin but I feel like aceflux would also work. if you don't know what aceflux is, it just means your sexual attraction fluctuates on the asexual spectrum

ik most iterations of penguin involve him actually liking birds, even being RAISED by penguins but i feel for gotham penguin, he probably wouldn't like to get birds. sure, he uses the name penguin but only because he found power and intimidation in using it but it's still connected to his trauma of being made fun of.

he's unlabeled cause 1. robin has stated that there's no confirmation that oswald is specifically gay. he's just not straight. 2. is because it makes sense for his character not to rlly give thought to his sexuality or to put a name on it, however i do think he only likes men just isn't labeled. if someone were to ask him his sexuality, he'd whip around and go "that's not of your concern!" and storm off or something pfft

he gets sick often, especially during his umbrella boy days. like imagine standing in the rain but you have to give your umbrella to fish mooney of all people because its what you get paid for. he'd get sick often cause of the cold murky weather of gotham. he's also unhygienic, at least in the start of gotham and constantly shouts so he'd probably get sick rlly often and has sore throat. cuts back to his mom always helping him with her tea and how he has a raspy voice!!

when ed switches over to riddler all oswald does is "ed ed ed ed come back baby im sorry"

him being domestic can range from childish innocent things like singing songs to each other and having picnics to tracking down people to kill <3

probably only got a dog cause he wanted loyalty and a dog is known for being loyal. hes seems more like a cat person to me

learns asl for martin, (and teaches him it if he doesn't already know how). oswald will literally ONLY shut up for martin, he won't speak when he's signing or when martin is (ed is kinda different but THIS ISNT ABOUT HIM *proceeds to write mostly riddlebird hcs*)

oswald buys martin antique toys and lame stuff, like jack in the boxes. ed buys him extremely hard puzzles and 'educational toys'. uncle zsasz buys him music-related things, headphones, radios, etc. barbara buys him more of what a kid would want, like an xbox. (ik this isnt just oswald but idc)

actually back on the cat person oswald, im going to state how cats are attracted to HIM. he probably tried to pet a cat when he was a kid and got scratched and sobbed to gertrude. he'll immediately become upset when a cat doesnt like him but he'll eventually learn how to gain a cat's trust and suddenly theres six following him around, he teaches them to bring dead animals to his enemies.

he treats his maids and house employees extremely well. like olga was the one to like oswald and not ed. why?? because he pays her good!

sadly probably mistakes olga as his mom, he catches himself right when "mother" slips out of his mouth, he feels embarrassed and ashamed, he doesn't get mad at olga but he excuses himself and runs to his room. olga doesnt get angry, she just feels bad :(

in MY gotham, oswald is still very close with ivy and other people like mr freeze and firefly.

he realizes how bad he was to them, apologizes and promises to be a better friend. everyone is skeptical besides ivy cuz she's naive but turns out he's not lying. he gets upset when ivy messes up or whatever but quickly apologizes and calms himself down, he learns to value his friends and their quirks as they have for him

he usually gets driven around by others but he owns his own car which is a hearse. yes, coffin car.

he dropped out of school probably when he was a teen and when he did have school, i'd like to think that he had straight A's.

not only did he get bullied a lot but oswald is smart. it's only a matter of time before he snaps, so i imagine he'd put his smarts to use and would start a business where he'd write people's essays and tutor them for tests (explains why he wasn't surprised when ed asked for oz to mentor him)

gertrude would have boyfriends when oswald was younger, but oswald being the clingy mama's boy he is, didn't like them. he'd put bugs in their pillows and coffee, and other fucked up shit to scare them off. eventually, they'd break up with gertrude and yell at her about how fucked up her kid is. gertrude would get rlly upset and explains how her little oswald could do no wrong. after a while, getrude would stop dating entirely, much to oswald's approval.

his favorite holiday is christmas and thanksgiving

hates the cold strangely, it reminds him of when he almost drowned, multiple times. he always has multiple layers on so when you see without all that or a suit in general its very 'woah'

he hates when people touch him, especially those who he does not trust. like did you see when sofia touched him that one time, EW. or when he first met ed, "you're standing too close", could be that he could strike at any moment but he also just doesnt like strangers

speaking of his touch aversion, oswald wouldn't trust ed to touch him after he, yknow tried to kill him. in s5, when oswald jumped to save ed was probably when he got over it and as we know they later hug (non-homosexually 😊)

ed is like the only one who can mention his mom (ofc in a good way) without oswald bursting out in tears or attacking them. partially because of their shared history, when ed nursed oswald back to health he used his mother's memory to gain his trust more.

when people insult him, depending on who you are he'll either dissociate or attack you. he's probably learnt to do that from when he was bullied as a kid

doesnt kiss ed unless ed goes in for the kiss first, hes afraid of somehow being rejected again, and also cause he's aceflux he doesn't crave a kiss like some ppl do but he does forehead kiss martin all the time. hes the parent who will drive martin in his limousine and be like 'wheres my hug 🥺🥺' before he gets out of the car to go to school

⭐Freddy hardly ever argues with you. He just doesn't really have it in him to bicker, even if something really, really bothers him. There's a chance he'll bring it up, but never in a way that's asking for a fight. He wants you to trust him and for your relationship to be built on a mutual understanding of one another.

⭐You can still tell when he's upset, though. Not mad, because it's nearly impossible to make Freddy genuinely angry, but definitely disappointed. His words are shorter, his tone more clipped, and he makes an obvious effort not to give you the attention you're seeking. ...He might be giving you the cold-shoulder. Just a little bit.

⭐He does eventually apologize. Even if he's upset, taking it out on you in such a childish way isn't fair. If he wants clear communication in a relationship, then he has to put in effort to get there, right? So, he hopes that by taking the first step, you'll follow suit. Out of everyone, his reaction is the healthiest, by far.

⭐There are a few things that Sun will argue with you about, but they're mostly related to his need to follow the rules and various other anxieties he deals with (the cleaning, the lights issue, etc etc). He can usually be talked down from his spirals if you handle things gently enough. But there are still some bad days.

⭐The more irritated he gets during an argument, the more he acts like a toddler throwing a tantrum. Stomping his foot, huffing and puffing, and if you make him mad enough he might even yell at you. By that point, he just makes the decision to "ban" you from the Daycare until he cools off again.

⭐No matter how bad your argument is, he always feels incredibly guilty about how he acted after--he should know better than that!!! And now you probably hate him, and you're never going to want to talk to him again and you'll probably want to leave and never come back and--!!! The guilt eats him up inside to the point that it Hurts.

🌙Moondrop + "Arguing With Their S/O:"🌙

⭐Moon is a lot more combative than he thinks. Of course, he's a stickler for the rules and stuff like that, but his jealous streak can also be a big issue. He's just so used to having control over most situations that having someone try to "challenge" that control immediately makes him defensive. Which, in turn, causes him to lash out.

⭐His immediate reaction whenever you argue is to try and intimidate you into backing down. Getting in your face, pinning you up against whatever surface you're closest to, and overall being a Grade-A Asshole. It's only once he realizes what he's done/doing does he resort to Option B: flee (like the big butthurt baby that he is).

⭐He spends a lot of time stuck in his own little pity party afterwards. He wouldn't blame you if you never wanted to see him again. It's probably better if you don't. Truthfully, Moon feels really bad about fighting with you and he really wants to tell you that he's sorry, but he just...doesn't know how. He's never had to, before now.

🐺Roxanne Wolf + "Arguing With Their S/O:"🐺

⭐Roxy knows that she tends to be the one who's picking fights when it comes to the two of you, but...she can't help it. There are just times when she starts beating herself up and then she gets sad, and then she gets mad, and then she lashes out at whoever's closest--and sometimes that person just so happens to be you.

⭐They're less of big arguments and more spur of the moment insults that she snaps without thinking. Only to realize what she's said the second it leaves her lips...and crumble at the realization that she really is nothing but a total loser. She couldn't even let the one person she loves the most close enough to comfort her. Why is she like this?

⭐She eventually just screams at you to "GET OUT!" and then spends a little bit of time avoiding you out of sheer guilt. It usually takes some pushing from Chica and/or Freddy to get her to finally approach you in order to make up, and she ends up breaking down again mid-apology. Wow, she can't even do this right!
