Jazz wasn't crazy. People might argue that burning her childhood home to the ground with her parents still inside would be an indicator of insanity. But how else was she supposed to react after coming back home from college to find out her parents had brutally killed her brother via vivisection?
Dying her hair blonde wasn't crazy either before anyone asked. Plenty of girls dyed their hair when they needed a change. Besides, she could never live with herself if she kept the same hair color as that vile woman.
Admittedly Jazz would have to secede moving to Gotham had been a little crazy but it was the perfect place to start fresh and blend in despite her "quirks". She had even picked out a nice new identity for herself.
Clearly Jazz was not crazy as she had managed to land a job at Arkham Asylum as a psychiatrist. If she were really insane would they have ever hired her? No they wouldn't have.
Jazz was not crazy. She was very much sane. Just like her precious Mr. J.

Y'all are going to have to explain to me: if cis men cannot be victims of misogyny, and misandry isn't real, then what was it when my father was bullied by his coworkers for taking his full parental leave to take care of baby me after I was born? What is it when he is mocked by his family because he is the one who cleaned the house and cooked the food? What is it when he is called "a well trained man" and my mother is complimented for that when he always had a love of cooking and cleaning and she had no influence on that?
Because I'm fucking tired of seeing y'all argue that cis men are the only one exempt from misogyny, but also argue that misandry isn't real. I think y'all have forgotten that the patriarchy doesn't love men and harms them deeply, even tho they get privileges. That, actually, there have been women who benefited from the patriarchy, while most people, every gender alike, were suffering. If the patriarchy loved men, they wouldn't bash them the moment they are being themselves and happy.
#feminism#transgender#transandrophobia#I guess people that argue against both are also transandrophobic most of the time#some of y'all need to read gender studies by actual scholars instead of theories from randos and it shows#it's not as black and white as some of y'all are making it#btw my father's coworkers were NOT bullying him for not working we are french they went on strike so many times#they were bullying him because he wanted to take care of his newborn more than my mother

Experimenting with different visual cues to show that a character is not quite fluent in a language yet. Commentary and extras below the cut. (the other language is kalaallisut, a real language spoken in greenland, albeit machine translated and probs not 100% accurate)
1. Blurred bits
I feel like this one isn't very visually pleasing, but it speaks to me more regarding how learning a language feels. You don't quite make out what the words are, and slowly pick up bits from what is being said. This also adds room for uncertainty on the character's POV, the speech bubble wouldn't be theirs, but what you read off it would be their thoughts regarding whats being said. The blur also helps keeping things incomprehensible even if you speak the other language being spoken.
2. Bits in multiple languages
This one adds room for out of the speech bubble commentary. It doesn't make misunderstandings as easy as with the blurred speech, and with an agglutinative language like kalaallisut it might end up being confusing to organise or break the sentence's syntax. It looks cleaner than the blurred bits though, and it still makes the other language incomprehensible (if you dont speak kalaallisut, that is). Colour coding would help indicate whats being understood by the main character and what isnt, and the texts would slowly be fully red across the chapters.
3. Faded colour to indicate not understanding
This makes the reader able to understand everything, and relies on the reader memorising that faded = not understood by the character. Other than that, colour coding would indicate a change of languages.
I like the reader only understanding what the character can understand and I like the types that leave kalaallisut still visible. Though option 3 might be cleaner and easier to manange.
4. Faded colour + blur
This is something I thought after posting it earlier on patreon. Blurring the parts the main character wouldn't understand can be a way for the brain to quickly skip through the missed text, in hopes that at least the first reading will match what the character is understanding.
Also, for the enjoyment of my 4 greenlandic followers, heres the machine translated kalaallisut version I used for 1 & 2. I had to use a double way translation tool and an annotation tool to be sure the words were somewhat related to what I wanted them to be. I can't really fact check it though, so I hope that whichever way the translator messed up is at least worth a chuckle.
If you'd like to see more of this kinda stuff, please consider supporting me on patreon
#comic#marangatu#language learning#brart#brazilian artist#latino artists#brazilian artists#greenland#if i were to make this a big project id hire a translator btw#and fool myself into learning a 7th language probably#the more languages you learn the less you care about how many people speak it or how profitable it'd be#sometimes the most dellicious languages to study are hidden in a 800km range area#also its amazing to see how many different ways there are out there to structure words and make sentences. i love languages#kalaallisut#comics

last night i got home kind of tipsy and very much in tears and my mother told me the force you exert to keep someone in your life is proportional to the force with which they will leave your life. if you have to fight tooth and claw to keep them, their leaving will be just as hard, just as harsh, and just as definite.
#she said it like a law. its just momentum.#also she told me to get a therapist and start archery ASAP bc i need to get it together#and also she said even granting that this person u were in love w was So Special . as in hot motorcycle-riding iranian masc lesbian in ldn#they arent the only one on earth and that once i start my proper adult life outside of studies etc etc i will probably no longer live in th#UK. she said most non straight iranians u would like have left the country anyway . where do you think they went? theyre out there#and also she asked me to imagine how many hot gay iranians there may be in italy or amsterdam or smth and i was like ok points 😭 maybe#ur right. anyway i was having a feeling of dread bc crying into the arms of ur strict asian mother while buzzed usually results in#death chaos destruction etc in the next few days but actually i think maybe she has genuinely changed as a person and the fear is#unwarranted#anyway i need to eat breakfast and study w the date person i met yesterday#they are so nice ??? genuinely so so sweet i dont feel attracted to them at all omg i genuinely think i have a thing for hot evil ppl 😭#but we could b besties . theyre a lot more romantic than the ex situationship person too like generally . ugh they should be perfect but#alas it appears i am shallow as fuck or potentially a lesbian actually#OH THEY MIGHT ALSO BE POTENTIALLY A LESBIAN BTW#i think i just tend to not date cis ppl entirely by accident#....feel free to rb if u want btw sorry for the rant

You know, I think my favorite thing about Gale's whole "watching you in battle makes me horny" scene is like. He's not wrong. A brush with danger does in fact increase one's desire for "other forms of stimulation". Studies have shown that being in situations that cause a rush of adrenaline, be that going on a roller coaster, seeing a scary movie, walking across a swinging suspension bridge, or something else, increase feelings of attraction. It's literally a Known Thing that adventurous stuff is great to do on a date because it will most likely make you more into each other.
Idk, I just love that his come-on is not only extremely nerdy, but also scientifically accurate. Feels correct and I'm glad they did it lol
#gale dekarios#gale of waterdeep#meta#i would pull up the studies about it but frankly it's nearly midnight and i'm halfway through a bottle of wine#and i do not feel like looking them up right now lol#sorry to get all couples therapist on main i was just going through that scene again and it really tickles me#like yes please have my sweet nerdy man hit on me with only the most research-backed of statements please and thank you#for those curious btw it's thought the reason for this is because physically speaking all arousal is basically the same#whether it's fear or horniness or excitement or whatever it's all an adrenaline response#so our brains use context clues to determine which emotion to pair with the sensation#and if you pair something scary/thrilling with a possible romantic interest your brain can get its wires crossed#and decide that instead of feeling this way because of the scary thing you feel this way because your hot for the person you're with

Summoner potential is endless. You get an influencer who has perpetual tiktok voice and everyone considers it to be an accent (it... could be considered one?). And maybe with the right combination of magic and machinery (from Reginn's homeland) they can continue to do what they do. You get a Christian missionary who considers it "Part of His Plan" that they've arrived here to "Do The Lord's work and spread the good word" (this probably has extreme political repercussions whether they are well-meaning or deeply evil using this as a revenue for power/control. It's a whole ass historical domino effect). You get a conspiracy theorist with an INCREDIBLY skewed perception of the world, so whenever any Hero asks Anything about that Summoner's world, you're just getting bunk information. Net-negative information. Summoner, who when the Miriel FBs took place, believes the moon landing was faked and that the earth is flat. You get an evil politician and the Order just kills them within a week and goes back to the drawing board (self indulgent scenario. More compelling hypothetical would be the Order being forced to work with that guy, much like the fallen Heroes, becomes a whole ass political drama. Also might depend on how evil the politician is though, sometimes you do just have to make it look like an accident). You get the opposite end of political radicalization where this Summoner is disenfranchised and among many things is anti-monarchy, making all the royals and nobles within the Order's ranks a bit uncomfortable. You get Jerma985
#fire emblem#feh#this isn't me starting any discussion of any politics mentioned in the post. btw. this is just me goofing off LMFAO#but like yes isekai is a wish fulfillment genre in most cases (and like! i'm def not immune LMFAO)#so it's easy to see why you get blank slates or 'everyman' types (said everyman just being a reflection of the target demographic)#not saying any of that is inherently bad and not even saying that it's always true! but broadly speaking ect ect#all that in mind. i think there's a wealth of untapped potential. for things to either get#one really silly two go HORRIBLY WRONG or three just be fascinating to watch unfold.#honestly i think it could be really fascinating to see an isekai type story where the protag is a missionary.#a lot. of ways for that to go wrong depending on the beliefs of the person writing it.#but as a comedy and study into the mindset of it and the political ramifications. would be fascinating.#but even if it is blatant propaganda then you have a whole other study/think piece on your hands#these ideas are extremely funny to me as concepts but unfortunately not something i'd feel compelled to pursue LMFAO#but i do think about it as a concept. and the concept is just extremely funny to me#summoner oc#? if. you want. feel free to take any of these concepts and run LMFAOO#fe kiran#the representative of the summoners. ceo of summoners. adjacent enough to file this under here#fe summoner

have you ever heard of a cat having the genotype l/l but presenting short-furred?
So I downloaded the data from this genome analysis, where they DNA-tested 11,036 cats, and as far as i can tell, this is the full breed summary of the "genetically longhair" cats (those who carry at least 2 longhair alleles - since this study was made, there was one more longhair allele found, but including that would only make more longhairs, not less):
As you can see, there are a few explicitely shorthaired breeds here that we wouldn't expect to see on the list, but i don't know if those cats were mislabelled for breed, were false positive on the genetic tests, or actually presented shorthair with longhair genotype.
#ask and answer#cat genetics#fur types#sphynxes being genetically longhair is a bit funny to me for some reason#(but most of them weren't btw. there were more then 500 sphynxes in the study)

it seems like cesare being conventionally attractive has done damage to society because i'm sorry but like why am i getting the "he deserved better :((" type of tags under my gifsets as if he isn't the anti-hero whose narrative of the show is heavily biased in his favor and he never faced any consequences of his murders and betrayals and by the end of the show he had literally Everything he coveted and was at his pinnacle so like...how did he Exactly deserve better than all of this because i feel like we're watching different shows atp
#and like all of That makes him the anti hero of all time and not every lead has to be so sympathetic for them to be compelling#bro at the high of his glory and his father even told him that he has always planned for him to be his heir and forgave him for Everything#including killing his younger son and giving him the position that he had spent the entire show tweaking over juan for !!#like i gotta confess he lost his sob story once he started to act out on his selfishness and snakery which makes him more fascinating btw !#i only find tragedy when he's in the context of his relationship with lucrezia but i can't even feel sympathy for him outside of that ngl#even if he didn't have his father's affection back then...he still had his trust and he's pretty much the only one he confides in#idk perhaps i don't see what some fans see no matter how hard i tried#we need to study the overdehumanization of juan (the only one btwn the brothers who suffered the most and would never betray his brother)#and the oversympathization of cesare (for being the hot lead who's done 98% of juan's evil deeds but never gets clocked for them)#the borgias#tb text post

Coming Home
i. Shasta heard a story once—he could not remember where—in which two brothers lived on an island covered in gray soot. Everything on the island was colorless except the brothers, and every day they looked at each other to remind themselves what color looked like. Shasta didn’t remember how the story ended.
ii. “Home” was not a thing for which he had context. Neither was “Brother.” “Father” meant only cruelty and neglect. And yet, Shasta was home now. His brother pulled him into mischief by his elbow and his father asked after his studies at supper. It reminded him, now, of that story from long ago. He was trying to see the world in color, having known only gray soot all his life.
iii. Had he ever seen a violet like the alpine glow off the mountains at dusk?
iv. Shasta went out walking sometimes, trying to understand it. The grass withered and turned brown, and the frost came swiftly behind. It crunched underfoot the way sand did not.
iv. “Father,” Shasta would say, “What color do you say the ice is?” “What color do you think it is, my son,” the king would reply.
v. The ice was many colors. White snow on the ground. Blue where frozen lakes reflected the sky. Faintly green where it hung in icicles from his window. Gold when sunlight passed through it.
vi. Long ago, Shasta had been born the Crown Prince Cor. He’d been born to all of this, to home and father and brother, even if he’d never known of it till now. These were Cor’s tall green trees. These were his violet mountains. This was his family, and his colorless wind that nipped the nose whenever he stepped outside.
vii. And yet sometimes, even years on, Shasta would wake expecting to hear the sea.
viii. He asked Aravis once if she knew the story of the two brothers on the island. She nodded, “Of course. It is from a literary epic in which a bride cleverly tells her husband a story each night in order to postpone her own murder. But how,” here she raised an eyebrow, “did you hear of it?”
ix. Cor (Shasta) shrugged wordlessly, a little embarrassed. He made Aravis give him the name of the story, then turned and scurried off to find the court librarian. “Can you find a book for me?” he asked.
x. He was learning to read, you know. It was difficult. What a strange world, in which the illiterate sons of fishermen must learn to become kings.
xi. One day, during one of his walks as spring was arriving and all the ice was beginning to melt, Shasta (Cor) stood at the edge of a cliff and saw a rainbow arch across to the other side as though it were a bridge. It felt, obscurely, like a promise.
xii. Cor was clumsy-footed and uncertain, but Aslan kept him back from the ledge. He'd build a bridge for Shasta to cross into his verdant, mountainous home. The Great Lion stood fast at every cliff, to make certain that Cor would not fall.
xiii. Aravis found him in the library, struggling over the thick tome which contained the story of the two brothers and their colorless island. The language was more archaic than he was used to, and some of the letters were drawn with flourishes that got in the way of reading.
xiv. But then, Aravis sat down beside him and said, “Would you mind if I read aloud? I did so love that story as a girl.” She did not seem to be making fun of him, so Shasta handed her the book and settled in to listen.
xv. At the end of the story, the brothers escaped the island to a land where the sky was blue and grasses grew tall and green beyond the desert.
#part two of my 'revisiting old character studies before the inklings challenge' challenge#shamelessly based on a max lucado picture book#i am compiling these on ao3 btw. i honestly do not know how useful that is but there ya go#shasta my beloved#the most unfortunate boy#narnia and the north! hurrah!#narnia#leah stories#pontifications and creations
