i keep getting hung up on this line for some reason. something about Klavier saying he "deserved that much" is so heartbreaking to me. he's right- he does deserve a brother that actually cares about him. he does deserve a brother who won't use and manipulate him. he's not asking for much- just for his big brother to even attempt to meet him in the middle. and he's realizing that will never happen. and he's saying to Kristophs face- 'I deserved better. you were supposed to be a better brother'

No spoilers please because I’ve just started the sequel, but: the Hans/Henry fight at the start of KCD2 is so fucking good, it’s such a believable fight. Like despite the fact that they’ve just saved each other’s lives and we’ve just been shown how they really care about each other, once they’re out of immediate danger, they start getting on each other’s nerves and lashing out at one another. It’s so real.

When their lives are in danger, Hans carries a half-dead Henry to safety while Henry is having PTSD flashbacks- and fights off a bandit, nearly getting killed in the process. That’s incredibly brave, dedicated, and selfless of him. But after he gets literal shit thrown on him, and is repeatedly disrespected and mocked, it’s incredibly in-character for Hans to grasp for a remaining sense of status by refusing to help Henry with any work and by flexing his superiority in the tavern. He’s trying to retain some semblance of pride and nobility after probably some of the worst days of his life, and is exerting it over Henry to do so.

But it also makes sense that this would piss Henry off! He’s had to work his whole life, and it’s such a reminder of who Hans was when they first met- someone who looked down on him, who treated him poorly, and who called him a coward. In Henry’s view, they’re both in a bad situation and Hans is refusing to help him deal with it, even though he’s been nothing but loyal to Hans and has done everything Hans asks of him every step of the way. On top of that, they’re both frustrated at each other over the deaths of their comrades- Henry at Hans for not taking everything more seriously to start, and Hans at Henry for drawing attention to them (which I also wonder might have something to do with a perception that Henry placed the safety of a stranger over his?)

The way it culminates in the stockades with them insulting each other- depending on your choices, it’s so brutal. I think Hans calling Henry a coward and mentioning him running away would be a particularly harsh blow, but the things you can say to Hans about no one being proud of him clearly really hit him hard, as well. You can really understand how they both got to this point, and why they’d be driven to say such terrible hurtful things to each other, despite still really caring about one another.

This is why I love this series. Believable characters with depth, that act in understandable, sympathetic ways that make sense for who they are.

still thinking about how Taash is the only companion written by Trick Weekes and apparently her Deluxe Edition weapon is labeled Grief and in the promo picture with the whole gang she was the only one looking at the camera and how out of all the companions she is the one we know the most little about. no chapter in Tevinter Nights. no cameo in the comics. just enigmatic silence.

friends i am deep in the dandadan brainrot and it just occurred to me (i have not read the manga yet so idk but ok):

so. Okarun doesn't actually know why Momo calls him Okarun, right?

And I was thinking about this whole thing about the names. How the names they choose to call each other is the reflection of how much they accept the love they have for each other, which is all nice and cute but.

What if Okarun thinks the reason Momo doesn't call him Ken/Ken Takakura is that she thinks it's SO INCREDIBLY EMBARASSING that he is named after an old famous actor?

and it would be so true to form that they hold onto this misconception and that they get confused by it once they get to talk about the love confession (yes THAT love confession)

like imagine Momo grills him for never calling her by her name and Okarun argues back like "well you're no one to talk! MISS AYASE. you're so embarrassed of my name being the same as some dumb actor that you had to give me a nickname!"

"come again??? :D ..."

"You're embarrassed that my name is like that one actor Ken Takakura! >:( why else would you never want me to say my name! >:'((("

and then momo is stuck with the mortifying ordeal of explaining that she has this HUGE crush on beloved 20th century actor ken takakura like "nonono you got it all wrong okar—sorry hnnggg k e n. i. had a crush. on ken takakura :l "

"????? I'm Ken Takakura."

"i know :l so is Ken Takakura."

"so. you. you have a crush. on Ken Takakura. the actor. You couldn’t say my name because you had the hots for Ken Takakura."

"I do. I do have the hots for Ken Takakura."

"no. The real one."

and once okarun's brain restarts and momo asks him why he'd never call her by her name either, he just goes like "i have a crush on momo ayase. 💀 i am an awkward fellow after all 💀"

Canela: "Anyways, I was sent off to study at a special school to improve my culinary skills...y'know, in BAKING. It was a really prestigious school out in the city, full of students that were just so...dedicated to their craft. Being over there was, uhm, interesting...."

The Braixen has been preparing the lemon bars as she recounts her story. Her movements seem to have slowed down, and she blinks hard as if trying to wake herself up.

Canela: "I had to put a pause in my studies a few weeks ago so I could help out my family though! It's good to help your parents..."

Her head droops a bit and she squints in concentration, trying to make the drizzle look just as nice as the other time she made these squares.

Canela: "Bone AA-YAWN-pple tea!"

Dish's Profile: Sour and tarty lemon curd, with a buttery shortbread crust. The added topping adds a little, flavorful kick to every bite. Oddly enough, these squares seem to leave a buzzing feeling in your mouth. This stinging sensation travels through your tongue only to settle down in the pit of your stomach. You feel uneasiness jolt through you, and it leaves just as quickly as it came.
