i redid merlin characters depicted in stardew valley and i like this outcome much better

oh nothing, just thinking about s4 morgana taking a walk and seeing a patch of flowers. she picks one up, observing it, and a small smile dawns on her face. she’s reminded of when gwen would constantly gift her with flowers even if just a single one. when she was sad, happy, sick. if she was still in camelot today there’d no doubt be a small hand picked bouquet waiting for her in her chambers. morgana quickly drops the flower, her smile dropping with it as she stomps on the flower, feeling the petals crush beneath her boot. this was not the time to dwell on the past. especially on silly fantasies like this one.

Merlin rewatch -- S3E10: Queen of Hearts

I'm seriously considering if the writers secretly wanted to promote Morgana -> Arthur unrequited love...

That would make more sense of her actions in this ep, why she resented Gwen for taking "her throne" when she was after Arthur's throne this whole time.

Sure, it could merely mean that she couldn't bear to see a servant ascend to the position of power when she had the bloodline but wasn't acknowledged. The problem is that she was mortified when Arthur told her he would run away with Gwen.

It's the real reaction, not an act. If Morgana really just wanted the throne (and prevent Gwen become more powerful than her), Arthur and Gwen running away should have been a good thing.

So maybe they planned to come back, but surely they're easier killed in the woods without anyone noticing (presuming keeping a low profile was something she and Morgause cared about and the reason they hadn't succeeded in killing Arthur). Also with Arthur gone, Uther might actually considered Morgana as the alternative heir.

But apparently getting rid of Gwen was more important.

On a slightly unrelated (but sort of related) note, even though it's all act, Morgana did so much better with Arthur than with Gwen, for some reason.

With Gwen she couldn't conceal her hatred properly and speak like she was delivering a threat, even though at this point she didn't know Gwen was suspecting her.

With Arthur, it's their lovely s1 dynamic. Morgana's act was flawless, just the right amount and not over the top. Without context I can totally believe that's their normal interaction.

I wonder if Morgana's feelings towards the two played into each pair's dynamic...

Okay I get trying to kill uther hell even Merlin he did poison her but Morgana was 100% unprovoked when she decided to hurt Arthur and Gwen the two closest people to her all her life just because she suddenly discovered that she might have a claim on the throne it feels like it came out of nowhere that hate for them especially Arthur he did nothing to deserve this she's literally proving that she's uther's daughter

sometimes i like to fall asleep to the idea of every kingdom being scared of camelot because king arthur decided to lift the ban on magic and it’s revealed that emrys is his right hand man. like yes, wreak havoc and scare your enemies.

on the other side of this, the castle staff and knights have to bear witness to arthur and merlin’s shenanigans everyday. because tell me why arthur is chasing merlin around the castle with porridge stuck in his hair and a spoon raised in his hand while merlin is cackling, bumping into every surface ever.
