It became a bit of a habit to talk to Danny.
The family had come together and created a bit of a shrine to the lost- Martha and Thomas Wayne, John and Mary Grayson, Catherine Todd, Janet Drake, Falafel the Spider, and many other faces. At the center of it all was Danny.
Danny, a brother they had never known. Damian loved him. Together, the family told stories of their lost ones. Together, they stopped ignoring the pain and started to move on.
It wasn’t an easy process. Dick couldn’t look at the pictures of his parents for weeks at first. Tim had complicated feelings about his mother. Bruce would brood until his kids dragged him out of it.
After a while, they got into the habit of sending a prayer to their lost ones, and occasionally a prayer to Danny.
After all, Danny would hear them.
—/—\—
Danny was patrolling the edges of the zone, idly listening to the conversation one of Damian’s brothers were having with his grave.
“I hope my parents are happy in the afterlife. Maybe you know them… not that every ghost knows eachother, but it would be real neat if my family got along in the afterlife. All of my family.”
Danny stopped. There wasn’t anything major he had to deal with today. Maybe it would be nice to meet his extended family.
-//-\\-
Dick opened the glowing letter addressed to him.
Hey there,
I’m bad at writing letters. Sorry in advance.
I met your parents. They taught me how to do flips and stuff. It took a while to find them, cause the infinite realms are infinite.
They’re very proud of you! They don’t know all the details about your life, but word travels around. They know you were Robin, they know how you saved people for years, and they know they love you.
They’re still acrobats too. They teach young ghosts how to fly effectively. They’re not strong, but they’re fast and slippery. Enclose the space, and target large areas. It’s nearly impossible if you use precision shots, believe me I tried. Frostbite says theyre spirits of the autumn wind. Makes sense. Sometimes they smell like pumpkin spice. Usually they Echo the circus.
I performed with them last week. They’re really impressive. It’s kinda fun to choreograph stuff ahead of time, rather than come up with plans on the spot. They got to perform with some of my friends! People really enjoyed our show. I left you the poster.
So yeah, your parents are happy.
Please tell your family not to bother me this week. I’m very busy with things. Ghost things. Important ghost things.
- Danny
Dick unrolled the poster. Bold font in a language he didn’t understand was written all over. In the center was Danny, his hands glowing green, and a menacing smile across his face.
Around it in panels were other acts: a rabbit man magician pulling a skeleton out of a hat, a guitarist with flaming hair, a genie, a teen on a motorcycle, a girl covered in tattoos, a man pulling a flaming sword out of his mouth, and an army of ghost clowns.
And, in the last corner, were two smiling figures zipping through the air- two faces that Dick recognized. The flying Graysons.
It wasn’t supposed to be a secret.
If you died while with the league, you will no longer be acknowledged to have existed, especially if you died during a mission. A disappointment will not be remembered.
The bats and birds don’t like speaking about the people they have lost, so they don’t. If someone ask about the dead, they will tell the person they don’t talk about that.
So how was Damian supposed to know that he should have told his father about his dead brother?

(Drop a 🏳️🌈 in my inbox and I’ll respond with a queer media recommendation!)
Magical Girl Friendship Squad was a short SyFy animated series that dropped in 2020 and never got much attention. The basic premise is that two broke millennial women are granted magical girl superpowers by a cosmic red panda, and have to navigate broke bitch life on top of their new magical destiny.
There are multiple campy queer characters, the main characters get their magical girl abilities from a birth control case and a bong, and it's fucking hilarious. I don't understand why so many people disliked it, and I think more people ought to go watch it. According to Wikipedia it even got some critical praise, but I don't think I've seen anyone talk about it, aside from a single tumblr mutual who posted about it in passing and convinced me to watch it.
It's sadly gotten hard to find. I watched it on Tubi, but it seems to have been taken down. The only places I can find it legally are some service called Fubo, and the SyFy official site that redirects to some place called Spectrum. If you can find it, though, it's only got six episodes, all shorter than 15 minutes, and is worth a watch.
Like, genuinely, I think more people should track down and watch this series just so it doesn't become lost media. I will be fucking devastated if it does.
Here's a couple clips:

Hi! Referencing your post a while back about how killing eve would have been loved more on tumblr if it was about men, I totally agree. I was wondering if you had any recs that were about lesbians (or at least women) that were similar in genre to the “dark” shows like KE, Hannibal, supernatural, etc? I’ve been looking for a long time (and like u said in your post and the comments) it’s really disappointing how little there is. I will take any crumbs possible lol
I do have one recommendation, im not sure if you have seen it but it’s a tv show called van helsing. It was on SyFy for a while and there’s a canon wlw couple/main character in it, but I haven’t finished watching the show
Ohhhh my god yes!! So sorry i just saw this ask… if you like Hannibal i’m BEGGING you to watch Yellowjackets. It’s got lesbians, angst, CANNIBALISM!! it’s amazing. I also recommend The Wilds, I am not Okay With This, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Haunting of Hill House, and the Haunting of Bly Manor. That’s all i can think of off the top of my head! Let me know if you’d like movies as well 🤗
As for Van Helsing, i haven’t seen it but i’ll have to check it out, thank you so much!
Hope this was helpful 💕

Micaaaaaa I am in need of a good TV show. IWTV left me craving for some good writing, please help 💙 I know some of your all-time favourites are Black Sails and The Wire, I gave them a try, but I'm afraid they're a bit too bleak for me :(( Any good recs?
Bestie this is a great question and im honestly a terrible person to direct it to because the truth is I really don't watch a ton of tv! But I'm gonna do my best!
Beneath the cut find a list of shows I think are particularly well written, divided into vague and confusing categories based on how similar to iwtv they might seem?
<3 <3 <3
(Totally get Black Sails and the Wire feeling too heavy. The wire in particular is imo the single most upsetting thing thats ever been put on television so I completely get not being up for it. But if anyone else is looking for shows I think are really well written those would be good places to start! Black Sails would be my first rec for iwtv fans tbh)
Dramas with syfy/fantasy elements:
Russian Doll: for literally anyone other than you (who's already watched it!) this would be my number one rec. One of the best (and specifically best written) shows of all time, has those spec fic surrealist elements, combines comedy and drama, just love it.
Andor: I know, I was surprised too. But despite being a star wars tv show it actually has writers that do a? good? job? And Diego Luna is spectacular. (If black sails was too grim this might also feel that way given our knowledge of the main character's fate, but it might be worth checking out anyway)
I forgot what i was going to put here
Not sf:
Reservation Dogs: Taika Watiti can be hit or miss for me, but this show is the best of his particular combination of humor and pathos. Also he's just really good at writing kids? (I would be remiss if I didn't point out that he has been (rightfully!) criticized for the antiblackness of couple of minor characters who appropriate black culture pretty egregiously, iirc they don't feature after season 1? But it is a flaw to be aware of). Why didn't I put this with the sitcoms? My mind is mysterious even to me
Bad Sisters: great 1 season irish show about a group of sisters trying to murder their sister's abusive husband. Again a really strong writing combo of humor and genuine emotion!
The Get Down: still not over this cancellation it hurt me in ways I can't even begin to explain... anyway a great show about the birth of rap in 70s nyc with beautifully thought out costumes, music, writing, visual style <3
The Americans: two russian spys undercover as an american suburban couple in the 80s is actually a vehicle for a probing exploration of marriage and intimacy. Also pretty grim (the cold war. yeah.) so idk if it would be for you.
The Knick: nobody ever watches this when I rec it because it's too gorey but I don't care! I love it! Period drama about a public hospital in early 1900s new york.
Sitcoms!: (sorry I know you've watched half of these just wanted to include them in case anyone else looked at this list!)
Derry Girls: this show is just hit after hit. Best written show about teens in the world!
We Are Lady Parts: See this entire blog. Genuinely one of the best shows ever made
American Vandal: Ok technically this is more of a mockumentary than a sitcom but i wasn't sure where else to put it. Season one in particular is some of the best tv show writing I've ever watched it is perfect in every way!
MASH: 70s sitcom about a US military field hospital during the Korean War. At its best it's hysterically funny, absurdist, and bitingly furiously anti-war. (At its worst it's racist, sexist, and boring. It was the 70s) This show was a cultural phenomenon, but it has literally over 200 episodes so I would recommend just googling for a best-of list and watching a handful to see if it works for you.
Atlanta: Donald Glover's surrealist sitcom about trying to manage his cousin's rap career in Atlanta. That's such a bad explanation of what this show is about i'm sorry but I'm not sure how to do better.
Shows I've watched between 1 episode and 1 season of, thought to myself "wow! this show is amazing!" but can't in good conscience recommend because I never really watched enough of them to qualify as an expert:
The Sopranos: everyone says it's the best tv show of all time and i watched season one, said wow they're right! and still haven't managed to get back to it! The pilot itself is so fucking funny like... mobster goes to therapy for his anxiety had to have been the pitch of all time
Station eleven: LOVED the book, heard really good things about the tv show, thought the pilot was amazing, got busy and couldn't finish it.
Babylon Berlin: this has the darkly romantic, opulent qualities of iwtv so it might be for you! Unfortunately I've seen less than half of it so I can't promise it doesn't go off the rails.
Breaking Bad: people are right! it's good! It's also (at least in season one, the only season I've watched so far) like someone made a slapstick comedy about a man cooking meth. In a good way!
You might want to just watch a couple gothic romances to scratch that iwtv itch! Check out an adaptation of Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights!
WOW this is too hard. Just watch supernatural i guess
#i know im gonna post this and think of like 10 more lmao#NO idea if any of this is what you're looking for it is completely incoherent as a list#also i didn't even include any kdramas!#also best written list is different from faves list. or even best tv shows list. i think all of these shows have stand out writing specific#but who knows#like i said. incoherent <3

what would say is you’re favorite or least favorite adaptation(s)?
My favorite is 51 and Alice’s Wonderland Bakery(yes both at once)
My least favorite is tricky because there’s so many I don’t like I can’t exactly pinpoint which one is the ultimate least favorite so I’ll just give like a couple
This one is a really easy pick but 2010 Burton. It’s just So boring to me. I’m not really a fan of AIW adaptations where they’re like Alice is a grown up and she back to Wonderland but it’s all fucked up now and she has to save and there’s also a resistance where either Hatter Caterpillar or both are important to and this is like the barest bone take of that trope. I like the 2016 TTLG movie mainly because it’s much more engaging as a movie to me. 2010 also has the audacity to have the ugliest color palette I’ve ever laid upon. I do like some characters mainly just the animals but even then it’s mostly just I like my interpretation of them rather than solely liking how they’re portrayed in movie
The UK tour version of Wonderland is not only bad as a Wonderland the Musical production but also as an adaptation of AIW. Some of the ugliest costumes I’ve ever laid upon, the characterization is dog shit, and it has no heart whatsoever. Erasing Gato’s latinidad and then butchering his character not just as Gato but as a Cheshire Cat period and then having the nerve to reduce their leftover character of color as a “wise guru”. I fucking hate it I’m glad the Austrian production is considering itself as the European premiere production, I hope this tour is but a footnote in Wonderland’s history as a show
1931 is also one I wasn’t a really big fan of. Mainly cause of whole The White Rabbit and The Duchess are in love with each other. Kinda soured the whole experience for me(which I already wasn’t enjoying I was like really sleepy and counting down how long it will take to finish the movie). I like Cheshire tho
What’s the Matter with Hatter. I don’t need to really explain. Bad animation, obnoxious characters, Hattice, boring plot. Just kinda of a given
1987 TTLG also has the same issue as WMH. The songs in it are so bad, one of them is just the Tweedles saying stuff normally while music plays in the background I’m not joking. I hate the jester character I found him annoying
Syfy Alice. 3 hours of my life I’ll never get back. Cheshire gets reduced to evil cat that appears for 2 seconds. Hatter and Alice are romantically involved with the shittiest development to a relationship. Like they just bicker and bicker and suddenly kiss at the end. Boring aesthetic, most of the characters are bland except for the White Knight, world building didn’t make a lick of sense even tho the stupid liquid emotions is really important to the plot. Just so bad would not recommend in the slightest

New here and new to the rainbow community, I’ve heard of clexa, but who are the others, im looking for wlw shows and new ships. Will you help?
Welcome to the party !
There's a lot of cool wlw ships out there! Here's some of my favorites:
Korrasami is from Avatar the Legend of Korra, and it's a cartoon from Nickelodeon that aired from 20... Something something, until 2015, I think. Millennials out there remember! I totally recommend the show, though it has a teen vibe. You can find it on Netflix. It's not as explicit as it could be about the lesbian relationship because Nickelodeon was a total jerk back then.
Wayhaught is from Wynonna Earp, a show from SYFY (also on Netflix last time I checked), and it's completed! sci-fi demons meet cowboys, guns, and pew-pew! Not a kids show.
Okay, this one is wlw in fanfiction only, but it's worth mentioning: Supercorp (Supergirl on Netflix). The show is okay with LGBT representation, but Supercorp is not canon. Interesting show if you like the vibe! Amazing fandom, though 😏
Avatrice in Warrior Nun (Netflix, cancelled, but there's some hub hub going on for it to keep going somewhere else. If anyone have updates, please share). Nuns falling in love? End of the world angel/demons duels? Super-powerful-goofy-lesbian crushing on a super-skilled-ninja-nun? The tension! The jokes! The punches! the tension! (I mean sexual tension now)
CaitVi is from Arcane on Netflix. Amazing show; the direction and art is to die for. Really, it's a masterpiece. Story is good too. Slow burn though, and there's just one season out, so get ready!
Ellie x Dina in the last of us part 2 (PS4 game). I'm familiar with it, I ship it like crazy, so definitely worth the mention.
Bumbleby in RWBY (Rooster teeth - they have their own website). Are you into jock-bimbo/nerdy couples? Those girls are for you. And the fandom has a side of Whiterose, so lots of gayness around. Animation, teen focused, slow burn (literally 10 years and counting), but amazing fighting scenes.
Catradora is from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix. Also teen vibes, but a really good animation show. Hybrid-cat-girl with a dark past plus chosen-bimbo-warrior with a darker past? Yeah, sign me up.
Other shows to consider: Killing Eve (drama), DC's legends of tomorrow (Avalance, super hero pew-pew - dig in if you like Supergirl)... People, help with more recs! (Please)
And if you like books... Oh boy, that deserves a post of its own! Lots of cool lesbian fantasy out there!
#okay#ask the owl#wlw pairs#wlw fanfic#all these fandoms are very active on ao3#you'll find everything in different tags#feel free to check my bookmarks there for a peek#fanfiction#fandoms#avatrice#bumbleby#rwby#wayhaught#avalance#supercorp#korrasami#CaitVi#clexa#catradora#Whiterose#ellie x dina#for books#the burning kingdoms#is a series based on Indian empire culture#the magic of the lost#is also a great series#book two is about to come out#the locked tomb has some good stuff too#just beware of the fandom#we're just as weird as the book

THE ARK?
I discovered a sci-fi show that’s already in its second season and I didn’t know it existed. That’s one problem with all the independent streaming services - it hard to know about everything that’s available. The show is “The Ark” and it’s on the Syfy channel (which I no longer get) but I found it on the Peacock streaming service which I get free.
I’m not recommending it per se, at this point I’m just sharing that it exists.
As you might guess by its title, it’s about a ship from Earth ship traveling to Alpha Centauri (just like the Jupiter 2). I thought the first episode started well… a cold open where the ship suffers a disaster and one of the units containing cryo chambers is damaged and torn away. In another cryo chamber, the passengers awaken and are able to escape into the main part of the ship. The command crew and most of the senior staff are dead. The surviving crew are younger and less experienced
I thought the design of the ship looked good, and effects and editing were better than you might expect from a TV budget. So I decided to watch some more.
The bulk of the cast looks to be between 20 and 30, emphasizing the idea that they are inexperienced. I like the main character - Lt. Sharon Garnet played by Christie Burke. Garnet young but shes one of the highest ranking officers left alive. Apparently Burke played Renesmee Cullen in the Twilight movies.
There are also two other lieutenants: Lt. Lane (Reece Ritchie). He far too unlikable, argumentative and wants to be in charge. The other is Lt. Brice (Richard Fleeshman). He’s the more laid back and tries to be useful. I like the Brice but Lane should be thrown out an airlock.
And of course there the over-worked doctor who resorts to taking drugs to stay alert. (Another over used trope.)
A few years ago there was a show that was part of the Stargate franchise - Stargate Universe . It involve a bunch of random character stuck on a ship traveling between galaxies. It had a nerd who was a genius at solving things - in every episode. Well - the Ark has two of those nerds - a girl nerd (Alicia played by Stacey Read). And a boy nerd (Angus played by Ryan Adams). If they had a nerd-off competition - Alicia would win hands down because she’s nerdy and perky at the same time. Alicia and Angus take turns every other episode solving the latest disaster. Neither of them irritates me as much as the nerd from Stargate Universe but the genius nerd trope is wearing thin.
After episode 4 I started skipping or fast forwarding scenes. There were too many episodes where a part of the ship malfunctions and they need to solve it immediately. Then there’s the problem with scientific inaccuracy….
In a season 2 episode, they need more fuel and conveniently discover a star system in between Earth and Alpha Centauri. But Alpha Centauri is the nearest star to Earth! UGH! That kind of lame research has no place in a 21st Century sci-fi show!
I stopped that episode and skipped to one where they encounter a parallel version of their ship. Truthfully, it’s the best episode of the ones I’ve seen (even tho, with all my skipping around I didn’t know all the characters). But… dammit! The girl nerd immediately says she would try and untangle the quantum entanglement. Apparently nerds are how writers can solve anything, any time, any where!

My TV Watchlist
Over the years, I have had a ridiculously long backlog with regards to the shows I have yet to watch. As the ultra nerd who is into all kinds of random stuff, this can be hard to keep track of. So I thought I'd log a few of them here on Tumblr and perhaps I'll discuss them as I go. It's not even a fraction of the backlog but rather shows I have decided to prioritise.
1
Star Trek: The Next Generation.
I have had Star Trek on the watchlist for quite some time. I did attempt The Original Series but I wasn't overly into it as an introduction to the franchise. I suspect I'll get more into it if and when I go back. But my dad has always raved about Star Trek. While I grew up on Star Wars, dad was into Star Trek from childhood up till now. So I've always been curious about the franchise. So I figured I'd check out the series that everyone seems to adore. Watching the first episode as I type, I'm quite liking it and have enjoyed the random episodes of the show I've seen on SyFy over the last couple of years.
2
Charmed.
Strictly speaking I have already started Charmed, about a year ago. I quite liked what I saw, but didn't get chance to fully get into it. The general premise is lovely and it's just a cute little show. It did, however, get me hooked on the song Torn in the short time I spent with it. 90s fantasy stuff that teens were into is generally just a delight. Not overly optimistic about later seasons as I know drama led to a cast change, but such is the way of things.
3
Supernatural.
I should know better than to mention this show here. I'm well aware of the opinions of people on this show and the culture surrounding it, my second favourite show and another show in the early 2010s. Whatever that was all about, I'm really not interested. What I'm into is the recontextualization of old tales. Myths and legends brought into the modern day with a decent cast. Will I get that with Supernatural? Who knows. But a friend of mine was really into the show so I'm gonna trust her judgement as she is now piling through Buffy, my favourite show of all time, following a recommendation from me on the night we met. So I'm gonna guess that we've got similar enough taste that I'm going to at least find the show pleasurable enough to watch. Whether I'll like it more or less than Shadowhunters, be that the books, the film or the show, remains to be seen.
4
Stargate SG-1.
Stargate is one weird show. I didn't even KNOW it was a show when I first came across a Stargate. See, in a Star Wars Jedi Academy mod there is a map called Stargate and I had initially assumed it to be a random creation of someone added because the aesthetics kind of fit. But as it happens that is not quite the case. Turns out it was a movie turned show with multiple spin offs. It seems to be the kind of thing many sci fi nerds get into. Similarly to Star Trek, I have actually seen some of this show. I tend to leave SyFy on at night and fall asleep watching Stargate so I've seen some weird stuff. The general premise of the show is appealing, what more can I say? I'm excited to that.
5
Teen Wolf.
If I'm being honest, I don't even know why I've bothered putting this show on the list. The person who spent years recommending it to me is no longer part of my life and I don't particularly trust their perspective on anything enough to sit down and watch several series of a show. But having said that, werewolves plus teenage life sounds rather appealing. Fantasy works best when put at odds with teenage life in my opinion. It's why Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my favourite show of all time. But the balance is vital and if this show doesn't have it right, then I may have some issues with it. But when I DO go into this show, I shall do so with an open mind. Regardless of where the idea to watch it originally came from all those years ago
6
Red Dwarf.
Lastly, we've got another one from my dad. He once gave me a USB with 6 episodes of the show on it which regrettably I never watched. Thankfully, I am British and it is on iPlayer. I've heard from various sources over the years how good this one is, as a Sci-Fi comedy. Really looking forward to diving into it for that reason. I may wind up doing this one in between another show once I finish watching Sherlock, which really should not have taken 8 years given the show is 4 series long. In any case, one good day with that show should knock it out and open up the secondary show slot given I'm down to the last 3 episodes. Red Dwarf will be a nice change of pace as most of the "new" stuff I watch atm is a lot more high energy given I'm running out of comedies that actually interest me.
Anyways, that's the 6 shows that I've currently got resting towards the top of the backlog. That doesn't necessarily mean things won't get queue jumped. I mean, Hunger Games jumped the queue so I could try to bond with someone so I'm not above bumping shows up for other reasons than actual interest but that's how they sit at the moment. And given Firefly was supposed to be next, around a year ago, I've pretty much proven I have absolutely no rules as to what goes where. As I have no idea if I even WILL watch Firefly any time soon. Another show I only have any perception of because of that Jedi Academy mod, given the presence of the Serenity in it. Likewise, Dollhouse found itself dropping from top priority to "meh, when I get back around to it".

Mosaic Haiku, Chapter 13
Welcome! I'm writing a series of haiku about the Mosaic! Disclaimer, I don't own any of these images (they're from the TV series adapted from Lev Grossman's series, The Magicians, which aired on SyFy). I'm just writing about them, ekphrastic style (seeing the image is an important reference when reading the poem, so I wanted to group them together). To read more about the project, the form, my author's notes (including a few more haiku), and to eventually see the paintings and drawings I'm making of these scenes (often with greater visibility/lighting or other small changes), please visit the page for this chapter at AO3 (link below). Note: I'm slowly making the art, so please stay tuned for that as each piece is done! Either way, I hope you'll enjoy these reflections on the best episode of TV (The Magicians, Season 3, Episode 5, “A Life in the Day”) and my favorite ship, Quentin Coldwater/Eliot Waugh!

getting to know you meme
tagged by @aragarna -- thanks!
Tag someone you want to know better!
Favorite color: I'm in a purple and green phase now -- inspired by lavender fields. I even painted my walls a soft lilac. Next will probably be ocean blues and greens
Last song: Can't Stop the Feeling -- I have an idea for a Murderbot story and for inspiration I went searching for "stormtroopers dancing" videos and that's where I landed
Last movie: Red, White & Royal Blue as the most recent, and Barbie as the most recent in a movie theater. I'd recommend both of them. Barbie kind of blew my mind -- I want to write fic for it, and I also feel like I need to watch it at least once more to even begin to do it justice. And just for fun, I'll add in Sherwood, as the last live play I saw -- lots of swashbuckling that's waiting to find its way into a fic
Currently watching: Very little, at the moment. I cut back recently on streaming to make more time for writing & reading. @edupunkn00b introduced me to the Sanders Sides videos, and I'm about half-way through those
Other stuff I watched this year: Good Omens S2, Syfy's The Ark, Quantum Leap reboot, The Winchesters, The Traitors, and a cooking show called Fast Foodies.
Shows I dropped this year/didn’t finish: The Company You Keep. It wasn't horrible, it just wasn't what I was in the mood to watch
Currently reading: The Secret Service of Tea and Treason by India Holton and the Tinkered Stars series by Gail Carriger
Currently listening to: See currently reading. I'm really into audiobooks these days. Also the sleep stories on the Calm app have become part of my nightly routine to unwind.
Currently working on: So many things! Short fics across many fandoms for Flufftober, a longer fic for the White Collar fandom inspired by Oceans 8, and then it's back to a reworking of a novel I wrote -- I intend to split it into a series of short stories
Current obsession: White Collar has been going strong as an obsession for exactly ten years as of this month -- that's when I posted my first fanfic. Murderbot is creeping back in, with my excitement over the next book being available soon. And after reading one of the Toshikazu Kawaguchi's time travel stories, I've placed several more on hold -- this could certainly become an obsession for a while. Forecasting obsessions -- who knew?
Okay, who else wants to play? Consider yourself tagged. Especially if you're @edupunkn00b or @silbrith or @cultofsappho -- no pressure, but I'd love to hear your answers if you have the time

for the reverse unpopular opinion – 12 Monkeys and Star Trek Enterprise? (thought i'd give you one easy one and one hard one)
for this ask game: Reverse Unpopular Opinion meme
Let's start with something hard:
Star Trek Enterprise:
This is... going to be interesting. I'm not a fan of this show and it has alienated me from the first time I've watched it.
But I will give this the good old College Try.
Things I like about Enterprise: I appreciate that as a show, it was trying a new thing and that it was experimental. They tried to distance itself from the Star Trek franchise by not using 'Star Trek' at first, but they returned to it.
I appreciate NX-01's sparse interiors that gave it a more submarine look showing it's one of the first ships out in space. It reminded me a bit of SeaQuest but for space.
I appreciate seeing an Asian woman in space! I wish there was more of Hoshi just like I wish there was more of Toshi Sato on Torchwood. But also there are more Japanese surnames than Sato.
T'Pol was really interesting and I appreciate T'Pol and Trip's love story and how hard it is for them as the first Vulcan/Human pairing. Jolene Blalock is also a good actress.
Braga and Berman handed-off the show to Manny Coto who did a really good job for season 4. Only good things can come from that except for the finale.
Phlox is a fun character.
Now for the easy one!
12 Monkeys
"Death Can be Undone. But Love cannot."
I wish 12 Monkeys was more popular than it is.
It's so damned good. 12 Monkeys has a really great cast of characters, I love the awesome women.
I love how everyone is so complicated and messy. The first season, admittedly, is slow because it was building blocks for what will happen but also if you watched the last season and the first season -- it legit blew my mind because it contextualized a lot of moments in season 1.
Season 2 is when 12 Monkeys becomes the show it wanted to be from the start. (SyFy forced Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett to rebrand their show idea from something original to 12 Monkeys).
IMO, 12 Monkeys is the best Time Travel show I've ever watched. It also had such a great soundtrack!
It is also such a romantic show, in every sense of the word. The whole beating heart of why the characters do what they do. Right or wrong and right and wrong. Because of love.
Cassandra Railly
Goes through a journey from the beginning to the end -- she starts thrown into the middle of a time travel story. She cares so much for people but ends up hardened and cynical.
She always, always is about owning her own agency. (Season 3 starting episodes are rough because of that). Right or wrong, she owns her decisions and she doesn't want anyone to take that from her.
Jennifer Goines
The Artist Currently Known As Primary! Jennifer started out very lost in season 1 and first half of season 2, she's had a tragic childhood but when she finally knows who she is in this 'verse and what she can do, she slowly gains power.
And, essentially, Jennifer is the most Important Person on this 'verse
Dr. Katarina Jones
She's the leader of the Splinter program. Katarina Jones is like Kathryn Janeway except a lot more morally gray and more willing to be ruthless. She will do whatever it takes to fulfill her goal.
And she starts off unlikable (but I actually liked her from the jump). She is complicated and thorny. And she has hubris for days.
And, of course just like Janeway -- she has a moment when Jones meets her past self and it's just as fun when Past and Present/Future Janeway meet!
In the beginning, Team Splinter didn't even like each other much but by the end of the series they are a family.
It's a serious show but 12 Monkeys also has time for levity and fun, a fun time travel heist in the 80s is one that comes to mind. Or when some team member gets stuck in the past and has to find a way to earn some money.
Or when the team realized they had to steal from their past selves.
Anyway, I highly recommend this show:
"Iniate:"
"Splinter Sequence."

Hi I did read the first 4? I think that’s the number magisterium books as they were coming out I don’t remember a lot of them but I remember the general vibe as being Cassandra Clare and Holly Black co wrote Syfy’s the magicians fan fiction but for middle schoolers. Also I tried to figure out what happened in the last book from fan reactions and only sort of understood it, so I can ask you what are your feelings about the resolution of the romance plot? :D (also Hi I’m S I like just followed you but I love your blog from what I’ve seen)
I PROMISE IT'S BETTER THAN SYFY'S THE MAGICIANS. I PROMISE. i would highly recommend finishing reading the series, i also only read the first 4 as the came out and tbh i don't think when 5 came out i was in the right mental space to appreciate it but years later i think it can slay.... the mental and emotional buildup makes it better i think, which is good because at the end of the day the golden tower was um. not a good book. to me. it was insane of course, i still think you should read it, it's a crazy book... my problem with it is not just because of the romance subplot but iDO have a little beef with the romance subplot.... and we MUST get into it..... also. hi, i realize i did not open this with a greeting i just went straight into talking, but yeah hi hello it's lovely to have u here <3
ANYWAY. so as we all know from the Posting i have been doing, i am a big fan of call and tamara's weird little thing. but i don't entirely like the way it was resolved in book 5? like. there's nothing bad about it i guess. it's more that i feel like tamara as a charcater had to be put on the backburner for this book so that tamara as a love interest could come through. it felt like every time she was in a scene it was always about how call liked her and was worried she didn't like him back and etc etc and they can't kiss because aaron's in his head blah blah blah. it was like can we go back to talking about how cool tamara is. can we have her suggest making a bomb again. where was her slay in this book, where was her freakswag. again, it was never truly like, Bad, but it also wasn't great. and furthermore. they didn't give the same freak realness once they were actually romantic interests as they did during the buildup, which is always SO LAME. like. tamara saving call from alex at the end of the bronze key instead of aaron even though "aaron is the good one" will ALWAYS be more insane and crazy than them kissing or whatever. you know how it is.
on the other hand though, i LOVED jasper and gwenda. that was peak side character romance there.... wish gwenda had been a bigger character in the earlier books but oh well i guess i can't have everything. they kinda had a little lake and felix love victor swag..... but i can't get into that or i'll scream. also loved the way everyone got coupled off but aaron. literally his schrodinger's gay character realness..... cassie and holly were REFUSING to confirm or deny that boy's romantic inclinatons!! kind of a 2010s queerbait slay. although i would literally never accuse cassie or holly of queerbaiting, that would be like, so insane and would would so rudely diminish the actual insanely progressive work they've done for gay representation. you know. so. aaron was not queerbaiting he was like. well. veronica lodge voice it was saving the world... in a way. he's like a character that's obviously queer coded but needs to be censored for some reason. and that reason is literally just that this series is way too short to be getting into the complexities of aaron being gay and in love with call. he was relegated to subtext for time reasons, happens to the best of us <3
#also the series ends ith all of them planning to go to magic college together and i can only assume call and tamara will break up 3 times#over the course of their time there and alays get back together until they eventually get married.#hashtag toxic hets hashtag love wins#asks#🌀

Nell, I've followed you for years and years now (long enough that I don't want to think about it too much because the passage of time makes me feel old, and Merlin was SO long ago, oh god), and I trust your tastes. What shows can you recommend with canon wlw romance? The more central it is to the plot, the better!
I am honored to have your trust, and I'll see what I can do, though I feel like I so rarely watch shows these days! And like it's hard to find things with central f/f, but we'll see what I can spin up.
You know I have to mention Xena, if you've been around here that long. It is ... as canon as they would let it be in the late 90s/early 00s, but you cannot deny that it is INCREDIBLY central to the plot and the emotional throughlines of the characters.
Vagrant Queen only lasted one season on SyFy, but there's a sapphic romance between two of the three main characters and it's fairly central. There is a whole lot of violence and blood, so beware if that's not your thing.
Killjoys does have one canon f/f ship that is a major b-plot in season 3 and shows up throughout seasons 4 and 5 (though one member of the ship is played by the actress who also plays the main character, so as a consequence they are often separated).
I haven't actually watched Gentleman Jack, but if you enjoy a period drama, I suspect this may be the show for you, I hear delightful things and as a bonus you get some wild 1830s costumes.
I only watched the first season of Wynonna Earp because the plot wasn't my jam, but there's a major secondary f/f ship in that one in the first season and I believe that continues throughout the show.
And to finish it off, Sense8 has a lot of main characters and thus a LOT going on, but there is a canon f/f pairing throughout the show, both characters are central to the plot, and their love clearly matters a lot to the showrunners.

I'm going book shopping, do you have any recommendations? Could be old books or new I don't mind 📚🍂
Sure :D
The Inheritance Cycle (There's a new ne coming out in Nov v excited for it) The books are good. The movie is... ok for a dragon movie of it's time and the audio book is enjoyable as long as you overlook the weird girly voices for the female characters and that all the dragons are doing Batman impressions for some bizarre reason.
The first four TVD books (The other vampire diaries books are ghost written and there are also a bunch written to go with the show that don't fit with the OG books. They're all pretty good but the first fur are my fav)
The Hobbit and LOTR (obvs lol)
Dracula
Frankenstein
The complete wizard of OZ collection (I just finished this and it's SO long. It look like over 90 hours to finish.)
The game of thrones books are good
The Adrian Mole collection is good but it's a bit weird if you're not British it's a lot of British humour?
War of the worlds, The first men on the moon, The time machine, the invisible man, the island of dr moreau all by HG Wells. They're all good.
Homer Illiad & Odyssey are god if you're into mythology
Lovecraft's monsters (Specifically the one put together by Neil Gaiman (Or features him? I'm not 100% clear on that but is SO SO good. It's my go to audiobook. 100% recommend if you're into spooky horror/syfy) I can't find a picture that Tumblr will let me load in of the cover but there's a link to it on amazon here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lovecrafts-Monsters-Neil-Gaiman/dp/161696121X
The once and future king is ok but the modern version of it has had science and historical events added into it which is majorly jarring
The Sandman by Neil Gaiman
Sherlock Holmes, any of the books (the collection is like a billion pounds tho)
Anne of Green Gables. I just finished this and it was really great I heard there was more books after it which i'm going to look into so I would recommend the first one for sure.
Good Omens was a good read. (I say read but I listened to the audiobook on a trek across my town to get to the dr office lol. Kept me distracted.)
Neil Gaiman's Norse mythology collection was good too I liked the way that they were compiled the book was very easy to read.
The Narnia books are good. I like the one about the chair, to be honest I did find them a bit boring last time I read them but the chair one was good. The one about the nephew was really confusing as far as I remember.
Grimm brother Fairytale collections. there are a few different ones But the ones that say they're by the brother's have loads of different versions of the tales which is so fascinating to me and some of the copies of the book break down and explain the differences which I like because I'm a fairytale nerd.
The Jeeves collection is pretty enjoyable though I would recommend the Stephen Fry audiobook more than the book because he makes it a lot less boring.
the Witcher is good (Do not get the audio book of amazon the man does accents for all the characters and by the end of the book they all have the exact same accent and you can't tell whose who.)
There are for sure more I could recommend but I've started packing to move house and also for some reason I've forgotten all the other books i've ever read.

hi! 2, 16, and/or 41 for the "get to know your fic writer" game?
2. Do you plan each chapter ahead or write as you go?
Little of column A, little of column B. I have the general shape of a story planned, and I write things like [introduce this character] or [insert action scene where they do this and that to set up this and that], but I keep it flexible because of the way the story can develop when writing it. For example, originally the Tara time loop was going to have different loops focused on pairing her with different members of the Team and Outsiders to get to know them more. As I wrote the story, I realized that didn't quite work logistically or motivationally. But the general themes are there.
16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?
For active WIPs, I have Tara Time Loop and Outlaws. I also have one where Khaji Da hacks phones in my WIP folder, and an AU where Gregor has powers.
For fic ideas, I've always wanted to write a New Krypton arc using the version of Kandor from Syfy's Krypton: Seg and Jayna essentially in charge of Kandor, having to rebuild it from the mess the Voice of Rao and Brainiac made of it while negotiating with Earth. Being a Zod, Jayna isn't really popular on Earth but she's learning to rebuild and to try and redefine the Zod legacy, while working through the toxic view of honor that has passed through the generations.
41. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?
I reread. God help me I reread @chancecraz Of Kings, Queens, and Pawns which is hundreds of thousands of words. I've rereade @championofnyx's Prince of Embers. @hedgiwithapen has Damn It Hedgi Day ficlets, one of which I reread an uncountable number of times to make fanart for. I can't think of a work of @parvumautomaton I haven't reread. I reread my own fics, both during writing and after putting them up. Part of it is sometimes I'm just not in the brainspace to go deep diving for something new and interesting, sometimes it's because I have a particular itch for a work and only one work will sooth that. (hence why I've reread pretty much every Brion focused fic on AO3, including @haveahearttinman's Unequal and Allies of Unknown Character).
Chances are, if I recommend a fic it's one I've reread or am willing to reread. And I didn't list all of my fav fic authors here.
