Gifts and Cake
Emperor Geta x Reader
Summary: Your marriage was arranged but your love for each other was not.
Marrying him was not in your favour.
He took a liking to you at one of your father's parties and now, you were his wife.
Emperor Geta truly showed his other side to you.
While people saw a raging crazy man, he was kind and sweet with you.
An unmerciful ruler, but a kind husband.
He always made sure you had everything you wanted.Â
And as your birthday approached, he came to you during the day.
Bursting into the room you currently sat, reading and eating fruit.
"Tomorrow is your birthday, My Darling Wife, I wish to know what it is that your heart desires?"Â his question was so sudden you froze for a moment.
"I believe I have everything because I have you, My Husband. But I do know you and you mean gifts, I simply wish for cake, you know my love for sweets and if it's not too much a new pet." you ended up saying.
"A pet? What kind? A tiger or lion perhaps?"
"No, nothing like that, I simply wish for a healthy kitten."Â
"A kitten. Why a cat if I may I ask?" you watched as his face filled with confusion.
"I adore them, and I wish for a small companion to be with me when you can't." His eyes lit up at your words and a smile spread on his lips..Â
"My Sweet Darling!" he kissed your hand before darting out of the room you smiled at his actions.Â
He left just as he arrived.
â-
The next morning came, you woke up to your husband missing from his side of your bed, but soon, he entered with servants.
All carried presents for you.
"My Love! This day is special, we celebrate your birth after all! To show my love for you, these are all presents from me."Â
"Thank you!" you smiled as the servants placed all gifts around you and left, leaving you and your husband who eagerly watched you and waited for your reaction.
You began with a smaller box, it had a beautiful new ring inside.
"To match my own." Geta spoke up and you looked at him, seeing his hand you noticed the same ring on his pinky.Â
"I really like it. Thank you."
You looked at all the presents which included a lot of different jewellery, dresses and sweet things.
"I really liked everything, Geta. Thank you." you smiled as he waved a finger at you.
"Not everything. Of course, we will hold a party tonight, there will be cake as I promised and I still have one gift for you."Â
The entire day went by pretty usual.
During the evening as promised, there was a party held in your honour.
You had so many sweets and enjoyed the songs. Your husband was there as you laughed and enjoyed yourself.
Caracalla was another pleasant surprise with his lovely gift. He arranged for you and Geta a lovely bath in a popular bathhouse.
But most importantly, your husband finally gave you your last gift.Â
"As promised, My Empress, your new pet. Name him as you please." a beautiful white kitten sat in Geta's arms. Such a small and gentle being.
You stood up from your seat and your husband handed you the kitten.
"Thank you, My Love. I'm very happy. Today has been the happiest." you said with a smile and a kiss to your husband's lips.
"It is only the beginning, we still have much wine to drink and we will head to our chambers." he whispered the last part into your ears, and you smiled at him once more.
"I truly love you, Geta."
"And I love you, My Empress."Â
You sealed your love with a kiss.

Sonic X Shadow Takeover Analyzer (Part 1)
I was so excited to hear this Takeover since it is only Sonic and Shadow talking to each other and answering question. It is one of those times where you get to see their dynamic without anyone else's input.
Since I feel like I could write an essay about these two, I decided to instead put all my thoughts into bullet points, this being Part 1 of my list:
First of, congratulations to Shadow for hosting the Takeover! Shadow sounds so proud of having managed to take over the channel and having gotten a whole year for himself. At least until Sonic reminds him that he is also there.
Why does Sonic's mind immediately jump to ''marriage'' when he hears the word proposal? Is he still bummed over the fact that he didn't think of proposing to Shadow?
I never thought I'd live the day to hear Shadow saying ''Sonic x Shadow''. I know it's referring to the game, but shippers are going to have a field day with this.
Shadow finally got his #AskShadow. Sonic is not happy to lose to him.
The best way for Sonic to annoy Shadow is to just be around him, with Sonic adding how he'd slowly take his time when they're racing and drag it out, much to Shadow's chagrin. God, I love how Sonic trolls Shadow.
Sonic doesn't know about Doom Wing... and he forgot about Black Doom! X3
I love how Sonic's idea in a body swap scenario with Shadow is to brag about himself, while Shadow's idea is to tell everyone how Sonic is stupid... and more importantly, telling that to Amy. Sonic sounds really flustered, and while I get the Sonamy joke... I'm pretty sure they threw that in because they knew the Sonadow fans will go wild over this.
There you have it folks! Shadow doesn't hate Tails, but he will beat him up if he stands in his way. I also love how Sonic immediately jumps to Tails' defense - big brother gotta protect his little brother.
Sonic loves the journey, while Shadow points out how you need to learn from the experience to not make the same mistakes. I love their philosophy, since they mesh so well together... and it also feels as if Sonic wants to go on a journey with Shadow.
I love the scenario of Sonic and Shadow babysitting Cream and them arguing over their methods (Sonic, the twelve scoop ice-cream cone scenario is really specific).
Did Sonic just invite Shadow on an ice-cream date? As Cream's babysitters, but nonetheless, it is a date. And he also knows what Shadow's favorite ice-cream flavour is.
Okay, start the counter for how many times Sonic attempts to convince Shadow to go out with him.
I love how Sonic knows how to challenge Shadow and Shadow falls for it despite his reservations, even if it's something silly like a thumb war. Sonic knows exactly how to get under his skin and Shadow just goes along with it, much to his chagrin. X3
Sonic, Shadow and Silver have a Big Brother, Little Brother relationship! Love how they're ready to help him at any point of time and how Shadow respects Silver.
So, Sonic forgot about Elise? To note Sonic 06 technically did happen, but the universe did get reset.
I adore that Shadow acts like he doesn't care whether he's Sonic's biggest rival, but the moment Sonic starts trolling him by placing him between Zavok and... Dodon Pa? (What?) - Shadow gets irritated. It's obvious that Shadow wants the recognition of being Sonic's main rival, and knows Sonic is messing with him.
Did Shadow just laugh at the Joe Mama joke?
Shadow correcting Sonic's Macarena bit is hilarious, especially since neither of them know the lyrics. Also, obligatory Macarena singing is obligatory.
I love how Shadow shares Omega's ''enthusiasm for blowing things up''. We saw him enjoying himself blowing up G.U.N. property alongside Omega and Rouge in Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings, so I'm not surprised. Sonic then immediately figures he also needs to hang out more with Omega,... perhaps in hopes to get closer to Shadow?
Shadow pointing out how Tails is the reason why Sonic's always in trouble is not wrong. These two can be a disaster when together as siblings tend to do.
''Shadow, have you ever given Sonic a present on his birthday?'' ''No, my presence is more than enough.'' There are several things to discuss here:
Shadow is willing to buy Amy a present in The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, but couldn't bother get anything for Sonic, which is hilarious. Especially since we know that it was Rouge who convinced him to go to Sonic's birthday by promising him a rocket.
Shadow arrived at Sonic's birthday just after he was traumatized by watching Gerald and Maria return to their own timeline, knowing this was the last time he saw them again. I doubt getting a present for Sonic was on his mind at that time.
Shadow claims his presence is enough of a birthday present. I interpret this as him claiming that he is Sonic's birthday present and you can't stop me.
Sonic teasing Shadow about the Hot Honey concert is so hilarious... until Shadow reveals they're going on another concert, and Sonic's mood drops. Honestly, Sonic, if you want to go to a concert with Shadow, ask him out!
Sonic being so intrigued and even saying that he's jealous over Shadow smiling in Big's presence, and then suggests a fishing trip with all three of them. Not only does he want to see Shadow smile again, but he is still persistent about getting his date.
Shadow chooses to save Sonic from danger because he knows Sonic will get himself into trouble, so he needs keep an eye on him. This is completely out of Sonic Prime and I'm loving it! It really shows that Shadow cares about Sonic.
Sonic isn't too enthusiastic about going with Amy on shopping trips. Shadow, on the other hand, just buys what he needs, which is understandable... Sonic then immediately uses this as an opportunity to invite him on a shopping date, even saying how he'll make it fun. Shadow immediately accepts the moment Sonic turns it into a race.
They mention the matching outfits (possible reference to Sonic Speed Simulator)! Sonic believes they have similar tastes, Shadow calls it a coincidence and insists it means nothing, which Sonic doesn't buy at all.
''But if we do ever go to a party, you know I'm picking the outfits.'' Sonic is still desperately trying to get that date and Shadow is not budging. These two sound like a married couple.
I love how Shadow respects Sonic enough to refuse beating him in a swimming competition, even if he reasons that it's because Sonic would drown, so he wouldn't be able to see the look of the defeat on his face.
Sonic immediately mentions a ''plummeting to Earth contest'', which is just... woah! I didn't expect him to go that far. Shadow gets an UNO Reverse on him by teasing him about needing floaties. Go Shadow!
Sonic keeps his chest fur short to stay aerodynamic and run laps around Shadow. You guys do know that hedgehogs circle around each other in order to court?
Frontiers!Sonic voice is back! Shadow sounds baffled. X3
So, Classic Sonic is just chilling in the room. Shadow likes him because he's silent, though. I suppose Modern Sonic is taking notes... or not.

How to Write Emotional Dialogue Without Being "Cringy"
Did you ever want to write an emotional scene between characters but suddenly felt so conflicted because you're worried it might seem cringe? I, for one, have (and still do) worried about this! So today, I'll share some tips on how to make your dialogue LESS cringy and MORE emotional!
But for starters, what exactly makes something "cringe"?
Our media actually plays a big part in shaping what we find to be cringe, so certain words or phrases tend to stick out to us as "cringe". But when it comes to writing, it depends mainly on the context given.
So, with that being said, something that's meant to be emotional might seem cringy and awkward because the scene falls flat. Now that you understand the base cause of this, let's explore some ways to avoid it!
>>> OMIT, DON'T SAY
If you ever found yourself writing out a line that, no matter what, still seems awkward, then the problem may lie in the line itself. Sometimes it's unnecessary to say everything; your readers are smarter than you might think! There's a lot you can omit in dialogue while still maintaining a natural feel, whether it be through body language or hidden meanings behind certain words!
EX:
Prompt: "You're so fake, you think you can hide from the world, but you can't. What if someone finds out the real you?"
"I'll just put on another mask."
V.S
"What do you think?"
Regardless of whether you find the first response cringe or not, you can also see that the alternative response hints at a similar answer despite not confirming or denying anything!
>>> BE BRIEF
Unless your character is ranting or you're strategically elongating their dialogue, try to keep their lines concise. Many people will speak briefer as a result of uncomfortableness, sadness, and/or anger.
If a piece of longer dialogue looks odd to you in a certain situation, that might be because your character seems to be trying to explain something too much when it wasn't your intention to create that effect. Filler words (uh, um, oh,) are fine because they're a part of natural speech, but sometimes it's better to get straight to the point!
>>> FILLERS
Speaking of filler words, they can become really useful when writing emotional dialogue because they can portray a variety of emotions! (They can depict feelings of anxiousness, sadness, and more.) Additionally, stutters and ellipsis are helpful for the same reason! Overall, these incorporations really spice things up! Unnaturalness can be a cause for cringiness, and fillers assist in making dialogue feel more natural!
>>> ITALICS FOR RANTS
Okay, but what about rants and purposefully long dialogue? How do we make these more meaningful when essentially, we're just talking about big blobs of text?
Here, it's important to add dynamic to catch the reader's attention. When we read, it's like a voice is talking in our heads, and the voice is ultimately determined by subtleties like italics!
So, with that being said, use italics (I suggest incorporating them regularly, actually) when writing LONG texts! It creates a flow and rhythm for our reading, and most importantly, adds emotional weight to certain words/phrases, which highlights what your character prioritizes and cares about most!
EX: "I-I thought we promised! You said you wouldn't leave--so why are you leaving now? Was it my mistake? I'll change, I swear! (etc...)"
V.S
"I-I thought we promised! You said you wouldn't leave--so why are you leaving now? Was it my mistake? I'll change, I swear! (etc...)"
See? With just a few italicizes here and there (although you do want to be strategic about which ones you italicize), the simple dialogue quickly grew more weighted!
>>> DON'T RE-READ TOO SOON
In the end, the most effective way to tell whether something is cringy or not is to have someone else read it and tell you! But if you don't like the sound of that and prefer to check on your own, I suggest to not re-read your dialogue over and over. Instead, give it some time!
When we re-read our work too soon, we already know what to expect, which influences our decision making and opinions. By approaching it after you refreshed your brain, it'll feel more like you're reading it for the first time; and therefore, you'll form more effective ideas!
***
Still, it's also important to keep in mind that something that's cringe to you won't be cringe to someone else and vice versa! It's ultimately based on the readers, which we have no choice but to accept. However, if you were concerned about your writing because of such reasons, I hope this has helped!
Happy writing~

Here's my official guide on how to make this a (potentially holiday-themed) minigame for the game you're already playing, using your extant characters.
If your gaming system allows for spending character-build resources on things you can reasonably argue are equivalent to ART, SKILL, or CRAFT, and your character has that, then you assign the modifiers as normal, PLUS an additional +1 to each category that your character has stuff for.
So if you were already playing as an interior decorator (ART) who trained as a handyman (SKILL) and is good at coming up with arguments for why X counts as Y (CRAFT) -- and more importantly, either the build for your character reflects that, or you're playing with a system that lets certain things establish future proficiency -- then your modifier spread would basically be 0, +1, +2, since that's the normal modifiers, with +1 to each of them because you're good with all those things. And if your character has zero artistic ability and no experience in putting up decorations, but you've put as many ranks into social skills as possible, then arrange the base modifiers as desired, and then add one to your modifier for CRAFT.
You will note that this can lead to "imbalanced" characters in a single group, because not everybody will have chosen to spec into "building stuff" or "designing stuff" or "convincing people of stuff". This is intentional. A minigame will by its nature reward characters who had already specialized into things relevant to that minigame. Plus there's only a minor mechanical difference here between "character who was made for this" and "character who was made for fighting dragons".
Now, if your game DOESN'T allow for spending character-build resources on things that would apply to here, or if simply nobody in your group has done that, then there's no conversion needed (or possible, for that matter). Everyone just decides on their own which of those three things their character would be better at and which they'd be worse at, for assigning modifiers.
For reference, CRAFT here is used as in "crafty", not "handicrafts".
200 Word RPGs 2024
Each November, some people try to write a novel. Others would prefer to do as little writing as possible. For those who wish to challenge their ability to not write, we offer this alternative: producing a complete, playable roleplaying game in two hundred words or fewer.
This is the submission thread for the 2024 event, running from November 1st, 2024 through November 30th, 2024. Submission guidelines can be found in this blog's pinned post, here.

Thereâs a theory going around (what with DATV shut out of the game awards) that the writing sucks so hard because EA or BioWare forced an AI rewrite after firing a chunk of the writing staff. I wonât say I fully beleive it, but I will admit that quite a lot of the dialogue in Veilguard feelsâŠoff. Itâs hard to really describe.
I know EA had mentioned wanting to use AI writing in their games, but I figured that meant future games. Any thoughts on this?
this is devastating to me but i hate to say... i can see it. and feel it, more importantly, which i think is the key with AI. a few things that make this seem plausible to me are that bluesky post from epler that has since been deleted talking about how he agreed with the biggest criticism of veilguard (without specifying what he was referencing) was something he agreed with, and trick and another dev chimed in and added that not only did they all agree, but they tried to fight it and lost. we are never going to know exactly what this was referencing, but i think it does allow us to infer that there was a significant amount of friction between EA and bioware. the kotaku article on vg's development from 2019 also has a rather telling couple of lines: "I kept hearing one interesting sentiment from current and former BioWare staff: They felt like the weirdos in EAâs portfolio, the guys and gals who made nerdy role-playing games as opposed to explosive shooters and big sports franchises. BioWare games never sold quite as well as the FIFAs and Battlefields of the world, so it never felt like they could get quite as many resources as their colleagues at other studios. High-ranking BioWare staff openly wondered: Did EAâs executives really care about narrative? Did they really care about RPGs? Those questions have always lingered, and still do today." so... yeah. that feels relevant to me with this.
the second is the datamined dialogue people have been finding that reveal what is frankly a far better written game and more in-depth dialogue. some of it is still cheesy and marvel-esque, but theres so much MORE of it that shows a much more coherent vision for the plot that for some reason is just.... gone? and i have no clue why. idk if we will ever know this for sure, and it is genuinely difficult to pick out AI from any other kind of profit-focused corporate writing other than just.... intuition. you can often feel the lack of humanity within it. and considering we know what bioware writing feels like and its the reason so many of us are here on this website yapping about their stories and characters... and how veilguard feels like something is just missing... yeah. i dont think its outside of the realm of possibility

Ok lemme talk about this season of Arcane, the ending, and most importantly, Sevika. If you don't want spoilers, back away now but I'm leaving this open because people have a tendency to not open or read my posts with read more cuts after them đ
[SPOILERS BELOW]
[SPOILERS BELOW]
[SPOILERS BELOW]
[SPOILERS BELOW]
[SPOILERS BELOW]
First off, I will say that I like Arcane a lot. Like a LOT. I've watched the first season 4 times (rarely do I watch anything more than once) and I think it's a masterclass in adult animation. Fortiche really put everything into this series.
That being said...
While I did like season 2, I don't think it was enough. Animation wise it was phenomenal, writing wise...I think it could have been better. As I've learned through doing research for my Sevika fics, the League of Legends universe, lore, and worldbuilding is fucking MASSIVE and even if I don't give two shits about that community or game, I have to give it props in that department because they really put a ton of work into it to make it feel alive. Maps? Short stories? Timelines? Race and culture? Apex could never...
That ofc is why it's hard for me to say that the writing is amazing. We had far too many characters to keep track of in season 2 with far too many plot threads to finish in two seasons. I think ideally, this series should have been 3 seasons instead of 2. Acts 1 and 2 could have been its own season, and Act 3 could have been its own season. If not that, then at least one more episode per act would have helped a lot. Things just progressed and wrapped up far too quickly for my liking.
Also not a huge fan of how quickly video game related media tends to dip into the whole timeline and multidimensional business. It def works well for some games but here? Idk I guess it was bound to happen given some League character's abilities, but the stakes just elevated far too quickly for me. Not a fan of Viktor becoming one of the main antagonists at all, and DEFINITELY not a fan of the conflict between Piltover and Zaun being sidelined for an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" thing with the war against the Noxians. It makes sense, I just wish "war with the Noxians" came at a later date so we could focus on the twin cities.
And speaking of the generational conflict between Piltover and Zaun, let's talk about Sevika.
As I said before, Sevika is the most qualified person to become the leader of Zaun and I stand by that even after the ending. But first....what about her found family? Isha sacrificed herself and Sevika gets no on-screen reaction? The last two episodes just progressed SOOOO FAST that we and some of the characters didn't even have time to breathe. Did Sevika even get time to mourn for Isha? What about Jinx, who is now gone? Sevika barely even encountered Vander! I would have loved to see some of the aftermath there because I think season 1 did a better job of allowing characters time to process their emotions and grief, even if the pacing was still kinda fast. It was acceptable!
I am sad af she didn't get more lines, but remember, Sevika has always been a side character in this series. An important side character but a side character no less. The promo shot of her now feels like...what was the point? (more on that in a sec) but considering how many characters and plot points and plot threads they had to account for, I am not surprised she didn't get more screen time. Hell, Vi and Caitlyn didn't even get a chance to have a full conversation on eveything that happened and Caitlyn didn't even apologize on screen. The fuck bro.
Now about Sevika's ending....I am very happy she isn't dead. Like dawg, you have no fucking idea how happy I am about it. SHE FUCKING LIVED. But....
I am seeing some people saying they're not happy or they're confused or that her ending doesn't make sense. And I just disagree with those points. Let me explain why.
I posted something earlier today about it, but again, as people don't open my read mores, I'll repost it here:
We absolutely do not know how much time passed between the war and the final few shots of the season. So Sevika joins the council. I DO NOT THINK she would do this unless there's a good reason for it, and that's why I'm guessing she will be Zaun's ambassador on the council. That war probably significantly changed the relationship between Piltover and Zaun and while old wounds will take more than a fucking war to heal, her being on the council now means she directly has a say in Zaun's future. Remember, the council was literally about to hand Zaun their independence before Jinx blew it up, and Mel was in support of it. As I said before, Sevika is respected down there at a bare minimum with all the factions. She would know better than anyone how to lead Zaun at this point. So yeah I get the hesitation, but it makes sense in my eyes. And it makes it likely that Sevika could show up again in a future League animation, if not become a whole champion.
I like her ending. I am sorry but it just makes fucking sense. Sevika is extremely loyal to her home and her people of Zaun. We've seen that time and time again. She was willing to go to war and die for those people not just against Piltover but also the Noxians, so why on fucking earth would anyone believe she's making a bad choice here?
She is now in the best possible position anyone in Zaun could be to advocate for their independence and support their growth. She knows the chem barons and brought them to peace, she gained the respect of the Firelights with Scar leading them in Ekko's absence, and she even got the Jinxers together with them before the Noxian attack on Zaun. Sevika has experience, she has the ear of the people, she knows what it's like down there, she is made to lead and help advocate for them!!!!
Believe me I get that whole "changing things from the inside" angle doesn't work more often than not, but this doesn't feel like "changing from the inside," it feels like "let me advocate for my people's actual independence so we have a starting point to become self sufficient." Again, Piltover was literally about to let Zaun gain their independence, and while none of the previous council members that agreed to it are there, Mel is/was. Who's to say she didn't help negotiate for Sevika to sit on the council and start (or complete!) the Zaun independence process before she left for Noxus? I can't imagine Sevika would just show up to the table and sit there if she didn't have a damn good reason. Like come on now. This woman has seen first-hand what Piltover is capable of and does not like them nor looks like she wants to be there. But she's seen what Piltover has done to her people first-hand, and after learning from both Vander and Silco, this is how she feels she can best protect her people.
She IS the new leader of Zaun and their ambassador at the council.
And lastly, we've been told that some characters will be returning in future League animations. Mel seems like an absolute given, but what about Sevika? Zaun's story is only just beginning, and yeah they said they'd like to branch out to other regions, that doesn't mean a cameo or maybe another medium can't be used to continue that story (a book, perhaps??).
Anyway yeah those are my thoughts...

Meta: Louis went to the tattoo parlor very late Friday night/very early Saturday morning (August 9/10). He went with Eleanor, Zayn, Liam, Liamâs mother and several other people. Zayn also has the âBus 1â tattoo (as does their bus driver). It is interesting to note that the heart on the band may be turned toward Louis intentionally as the club and spade face outward. The diamond makes it difficult to tell.

October 11, 2013:
Pacman Tattoo (Louis) - Unknown Auckland, NZ [Louis' 28th tattoo]

Spider web (Louis) - Unknown [Louis' 29th tattoo]
January 11, 2014*:Â
Anchor (Harry) - Unknown L.A. [Harry's 44th tattoo]
Meta: [Just with the 2 swallows he got on November 8, 2012, which covered up his "LOVE banner", the anchor was Harry's 2nd cover-up. It now covers his "I CAN'T CHANGE..." tattoo (his 5th, first seen on July 27, 2012), which many suspect he got in place of the tattered Leeds Festival 2011 bracelet. (He went to Leeds 2011 festival with Louis and still wore the festival bracelet until long after)]
The anchor is yet another tattoo from this website [link no longer active], which is nothing definitive but something to file away because wow, thatâs a lot of tattoos coming from the same website that Harry & Louis both have.
Most anchor tattoos are done with a rope, but Harryâs doesnât have a rope. Guess who has a rope... In the same mirrored position on the opposite wrist. Yes. This is real life.
To add insult to injury, the first time we saw Louis in England in 2014 was miraculously the same day we first saw Harry with the anchor tattoo (there is cause to believe Louis was in LA the previous week).
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, Louis showed up in England wearing a shirt with a giant anchor on it (much like when he wore the âit is what it isâ shirt after he got that tattoo in 2013, but before we could tell what the tattoo said).
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WHY.
And here is more meta on how the "It is what it is" and the butterfly were 2 designs from the same flash design sheet by Liam Sparkes:
January 16, 2014*:Â
Holy Bible/Book (Harry) - Unknown L.A. [Harry's 45th tattoo]
[Meta: This is Harry's 3rd cover up, covering his "Things I can't", which we had first seen on October 12, 2012. It's interesting that the "can't" was still left somewhat visible.]
February 18, 2014:
Anatomical heart (Harry) - LS [Harry's 46th tattoo]
[Meta: It's interesting to note that the heart is mirrored, as if it's not his own heart, but the heart of someone he's embracing/standing opposite him.]
Laurels (Harry) - LS [Harry's 47th tattoo]
Meta: [This is Harry's 4th cover up, covering up his "Might as well..." tattoo which we had seen first on October 18, 2012.]
I put the laurels here on the same day as the anatomical heart, because we know Harry was at Liamâs shop that day and got the heart. Liam recently posted this image on his instagram of laurels he did..

TIMELINE: TATTOOS TO DATE
This is organized by date. All tattoos are linked to photos, unless they are major tattoos I want to talk about, in which case I have inserted the photos into the post. (Special thanks to thelegohouselove and their wonderful tattoo masterposts with pictures)
Dates are dates I believe they actually got the tattoos. If I canât find a date they got the tattoo, I have indicated it with a â*â which is the first date we saw the tattoo.Â
Before we begin, fun facts that might blow your mind:
Harry has 56 tattoos that we know of.
Louis 38 tattoos that we know of.Â
Harry got 30 of his 56 tattoos between June and October 2012. Thatâs, on average, about 8/month.
Louis got 10 of his 37 between October and December 2012. Thatâs, on average, about 5/month.
The most Harry ever got on one day is 4. He got 13 in a 7 day period in October 2012. The most Louis ever got on one day was 5 on February 25 of 2013.
Artist counts for Harry: Tom Atkins (10); Liam Sparkes (10); Freddy Negrete (8); Kevin Paul (3).Â
Artist counts for Louis: Skunx (7); Liam Sparkes (4); Freddy Negrete (4).
Some of this stuff isnât an exact science. Some of it is me making an educated guess, especially involving some of Harryâs tattoos in October and Louisâ âThe Rogueâ vs. âIt is what it isâ and Harryâs 3 Nails. So bear that in mind.Â
Over all, this should give you a good idea of just how much the tattoos seem to be an outlet during highly-closeted and stressful times (Harryâs June-October spree that gave way to the birds, ship & compass and butterfly and Louisâ October-December Haylor spree), not only in date alone, but also in the subject of the tattoo.
Thank you to Kerry, Jess & awesomeanonfriend for the cheerleading and fact-checking and Angela for her insight.Â
Letâs do this.

What do uou think about Tabi after the final episode? Just curious.
Well...
spoliers undercut + character analysis
Tabi just became more interesting to me as a character, it had been clear that she had lost her trust, I might rewatch it again to confirm or deny if it was one person or a lot but I definitely think it's many many people who made her lose her trust whether it's by words or actions
She cannot trust.
And that's what interests, Tabi has gone so long without trusting and some random guy decides to be best friends, having an unreasonable amount of trust in her
How could she not be suspicious, she doesn't know what's going in Evbo's mind, for all she could know it was just a facade.
But after a while, she knows he's genuine about it
And that's what terrifying
This rando keeps on following, keeps on saving, he keeps coming back for her and most importantly, he keeps trusting
Tabi knows she'll betray him eventually, and she knows she can't feel remorse about it, not now, not ever
Because that's who she is. she cannot trust
I am actually in love with her story, I wanna know more, I wanna know why, I just want to know.
Tabi is a character I wanna see more about, I feel like she doesn't have enough time (or maybe that's just me) but she's wonderful and I absolutely adore her

I've been thinking in a Cumplane friendship idea.--
You see, everyone seems to believe SQQ and SQH can't stand each other. Quite the opposite, really. When it's only the two of them they don't feel the need to keep up the pretence. It's so easy to relax, to put the mask aside.
They aren't peak lords nor cultivators. They're just two dudes in their mid tweenties trying to survive in this forsaken world.
SY knows he might not be the kindest nor the most loving of friends, (he spent so many years alone in a cold, hospital room, he's not good at socializing) but he does care for Airplane. A lot. He will never say it out loud because it's embarrasing but that stupid author is his best friend.
So, that's why when the news of Qinghua's disappearance finally reach him (two weeks, it took two full weeks before someone decided to tell him--- )they absolutely destroys him.
He seems calm at fisrt. Not truly procesing the news. LBG makes a few comments about something Mobei told him (you fucking knew and didn't tell me, how dare you, husband?! )
Gone, SQH? No, that's dumb. He couldn't be gone. He's a peak lord, he has responsabilities, a bunch of little ones to teach. He even takes care of the north. And most importantly why would he leave Mobei? It makes no sense, not fucking sense.
SQH wouldn't leave like that. He... he wouldn't leave SY behind.
He can feel sob building up in his throat. That... stupid, idiot--HACK AUTHOR!
His crying fit is so strong and sudden that sends LBG and his whole demon staff into a panic.
"Shizun?!" He says looking for visible injuries-
"Don't touch me!" He screams and LBG looks at him with hurt.
"Husband? Have... have this disciple done something wrong?"
SQQ just turns and walks to his chambers ordering LBG not to follow him. His husband is left feeling distressed and cries for very different reasons.
Later that night they talk. SQQ feeling tired and sad finally calls for his husband to comfort him. He explains to him why he is angry at him and LBG apologizes.
"This one thought you hated Shang-shibo and that Shizun wouldn't care about his dissapereance." He says in a small, careful voice. "Mobei jun came to the palace days ago to beg for help in his search... "
"You turned him away... " SY says, sounding very tired.
"Yes. But this husband will make it right, Shizun. I will find your friend for you, promise."
SY sighs and hugs his husband, hiding his face in his chest.
..
Idk 'm all over the place but the idea is that the system is glitching and took SQH and is kind of keeping him hostage? Like, in between worlds. Not the mordern universe, not PIDW.
I imagine LBG having a very hard time accepting his shizun worries and loves others and not just him (??? why??? I'm more than enough you need NO ONE else shizun). He's too possesive and would like very much just to lock his shizun away, but that would break him and he never wants to see him cry like that ever again. Even if that means he has to share his attention.
MBJ is very broken in this one fiding himself lost without SQH. they had just finally stablished their relationship so he's between angry and scared. Also his trust and loyalty to LBG has taken a blown since he refused to help him find his lover. Didn't he help LBG when everyone turned his back on him as he clinged to his dead shizun's body?
While they work together (before they can even figure out where sqh is) LBG slowly realizes he might have fucked up a bit and ??? misses Mobei ??? are they friends???!!
SY tries his fucking best to keep it together. Really, he loves Binghe but that man can be so dense.
They find where SQH is being kept. The place is like a limbo. Cold, and vast where no time passes. In order to get him back LBG, MBJ and SQQ work together to reforge Xin Mo and travel there. There's a cool fighting montage, tears, hugs and everyone is happy at the end
Yeah that's all i got so far. I'll be going back to work now--

Last Response Before the Matter is Put To bed. Hermitcraft/Vault Hunters.
First of all, to everyone being calm and rational about the whole situation, let me say that I am proud of you. I know for many this has been a tough blow. But keeping your head on your shoulders and being patient and waiting for more information? Good job, take a breath. Now lets get onto the main issue. I did look through the documents thanks to folks making them easier to access for those of us (Me in this case) who don't have Twitter. I've always been a firm believer to stay on the fence and wait until statements are made, receipts here and there (doesn't need to be detailed but providing evidence is always helpful). And more importantly, do not ignore the victim. You never know until you hear everything and see it all. It's a lesson I learned the hard way. I'm also looking at character study and who is involved. Which is why I was quick to halt any work that involved the subject at hand until I had everything in my hands. Obviously, and this should go without saying, it is all real, the screenshots are real, not fabricated and the victims of this are real. I've been with Hermitcraft for a long time, I've been with Minecraft for even longer than that. So when all of this came out, it stung. I'd like to think with years of experience it would jade me enough. But I suppose when this hits pretty close to home? It's hard to say. I met my dearest friends through Hermitcraft. And I've had acquaintances where were Iskall fans. Obviously no longer. With that in mind, let me say this. To the victims of his actions, I wish you well and healing. I hope that you can find peace with everything that has happened. Good luck for wherever life may take to.

semantics come from linguistic convention, basically words mean what they do because we agree they do out of customary usage.
every word has an etymology, or origin, but semantic change is a constant of language. so etymology is insufficient to explain a word's meaning. the word "sake" (as in, "for god's sake!") meant "thing", now it doesn't. "vagina" meant sheath, now it doesn't.
depending on what demographic, community, you may have different conceptual systems for the same terms, even during the same period of time. nowadays, some are cross-cultural and cross-linguistic with the advent of multinational 'internet culture', so it is harder to keep track of these things.
"sentience v sapience v sophonce" actually is an interesting elaboration, a three-tiered distinction over the two-tiered distinction if you collapse any possible distinction between sapience/sophonce.
sophonce is a neologism with a greek root, although it is latinate, coined by a collaborative worldbuilding project called Orion's Arm, and "a project by nerds" doesn't quite translate it. it's a sci-fi fictional setting and their webpage is a bit old styled but it still includes thousands of articles expanding history, culture, 'galactography', etc, for tens of thousands of years into the future. it is a treasure trove of interesting ideas, some very original and philosophically relevant now with the development of AI.
many deal with a branch of philosophy called "noology", the study of the mind, thought, and knowledge.
they have developed terms like hypersophont too and tiers of possible levels of super-human intelligence based on what makes human intelligence different from animal intelligence, including the intuition that this is not like a linear ascension.
so the three-tiered distinction conveys something like this
sentient = could include literally invertebrates, sensory functions, but not necessarily able to form thoughts. subjective experience can go from vivid and detailed to very rudimentary (like a jelly that only "notices" light and dark)
sapient = intelligence, but not at the level of human intelligence. canids, felids, corvids. more importantly, primates, great apes. because there are currently important ethical questions that ponder what "personhood" and non-human personhood in particular is. is an ape that knows itself is itself and can do sign language* a person? maybe not, but they're not just sentient like a grasshopper is.
(*animals can sign, althought it's not really 'language' because animals can't really do grammar/syntax)
the current best estimate for that threshold, scientifically, is self-awareness btw. self-awareness is the ability to have, in one's mind, the notion of self. self-awareness is also called "autoscience". some non-human animals are able to do this.
sophonce or whatever word you wanna call it, would imply something more, something currently only humans possess. metacognition is not just self-awareness.
but metacognition takes it a step further, it implies associations around that, the ability to form knowledge about oneself, to turn oneself into a concept, and think about it.
this conversation would reveal someone is self-aware:
+hey you spilled your coffee -ah right, i see the spot, i hadn't noticed. i wondered why suddenly my knee felt hot. the fact they can associate an internal feeling (hot, cold) with the experience observed by someone else, as happening to them- that requires a concept of the self as the thing that experiences things. but only this conversation would reveal someone is metacognizant: +hey you spilled your coffee -oh fuck, i actually love coffee, now i have to get another one +do you really love coffee, though? -hm i guess you're right, i actually have a caffeine addiction, but i don't want to say it because i feel bad about it. only humans can form knowledge about the self and know things about the self, and have "recurrence" in thoughts. they aren't just thinking about coffee, they're thinking about what they're thinking about coffee (they're reflecting on the fact their euphemism reveals an avoidance to admit a problem).
that's what is so far human-only in terms of intelligence.
i am on my knees tears running down my face knuckles raw and bleeding and BEGGING people to learn the difference between sentient and sapient
#amateur linguist#here#descriptivism not prescriptivism!!#also long post but i think its interesting#philosophy of mind#noology

helloo! back to humbly ask for more content for him hehe but this time I wanna add for his brother as well!đ
how they'd react to their s/o sacrificing themselves to save them/for their sake? how they are in their last moments together and how they handle the aftermath? I love the Uchiha boys being soft but i cant resist the angst sometimes đ«Ł
thank you again! adore your work as always!
author's note: I am in an angsty mood right now, so I literally RUSHED to my drafts, so I can finish this request! Thank you so much for sending it and I really hope I did it justice! <3
†Sasuke
The death of his s/o would be one of the two things: either the birth of the greatest villain to ever exist or the end of the 'ninja path' for Sasuke Uchiha.
It really depends on WHY did they sacrificed themselves for him or more importantly WHO took their life.
I think no matter when Sasuke has met them (before or after the war), he would take them as granted. He didn't even want to think about a scenario where they would not exist or be part of his life, let alone accept it.
So when they fell in front of him, a giant hole in their chest, his immediate reaction was shock.
This could not be happening... This should NOT be hapenning!
His whole body would be frozen and he would stay in place for at least a few minutes, till your weak attempt to mutter his name brings him back to reality. He immediately rush by their side, cradling their face in his hands while he kept muttering the same words over and over again.
"No, no, no... Don't close your eyes, you are fine! Don't... don't do this! Please!"
(the first and last time he ever said the word "please" to his s/o)
Once the realisation that there was still a battle going on hits him, his rage would erupt like a volcano. He would make sure that whoever is responsible for his s/o being gone would suffer not only painful, but also a gruesome death.
Now like I said above, why did his s/o sacrifice themselves for him and who was on the other side of the attack would be KEY details in shaping Sasuke's future.
I think if it happens way after the war (let's say 10 years+) and his s/o sacrifices themselves for him during mission or during an attack by foreign ninjas, he would most likely retire as a shinobi and seek quiet life somewhere outside Konoha.
(he not only looks like John Wick, but he also follows a similar path... đ)
He would no doubt contribute their death to him being a ninja and I don't think he can accept the idea of continuing being one, knowing it has costed him so much. He lost EVERYTHING to that lifestyle and now all he had left were memories.
If his s/o, however, died during the war or shortly after, and have the fate to be killed by a Leaf Shinobi there is NO GOING BACK for Sasuke.
Full 100% Villain Mode!
I have no doubt that he will put all his effort, time and energy in avenging his s/o or even worse - try everything to bring them back to life!
Would wage a fifth and even a sixth world war if it means that he will finally find a way to destroy the villages, especially Konoha once and for all.
†Itachi
The idea of death never scared Itachi.
He was responsible for countless deaths, including the ones of his own parents, and he himself was clearly seeing the upcoming end of his own life.
Yet the idea of his s/o dying was not one that ever crossed his mind. He has always imagined that they would live many, many years after him, having a beautiful family with someone who can give them everything he could not.
I imagine his s/o would die either during the fight with Sasuke or shortly after.
Just like Sasuke he would be in disbelief and shock at first, but instead of just staying frozen to the place, he would rush toward his s/o and catch them before they hit the ground.
"No... What have you done? You should've stayed away, you should've listened to me!"
Itachi is usually calm and collected, but this may be one of the few times he actually loses control (or maybe even the only one?).
If his s/o was killed before that battle by some other enemy, he would kill his enemy the same way as Sasuke - slow and gruesome, leaving the battlefield a bloody reminder of what an Uchiha is capable of in the name of love.
If Sasuke was the one that took his s/o life, he would not hold back and unleash all his power, despite his weakened state.
He would forget all his initial goals and feelings when it comes to his little brother, and would use every attack in his arsenal with the sole purpose to kill.
However, in that instance, I do think there will be a moment where he will get some clarity before the end of the fight and he is immediately filled with guilt.
If his s/o has never met him, they would still be alive. The fault was not Sasuke's - it was only his.
This would be the key moment when he loses all determination to fight and let's his younger brother take his life.
With his s/o gone, he actually looks forward death. Because maybe someday, somewhere, in another life, he would have a chance to make things right.
That moment when Zabuza died next to Haku... yep, that is Itachi next to his s/o.
He would use the last remaining energy in his body to crawl over to them and slip his hand in their cold one.
(I think I may have made myself accidentally cry with this one... :( )

Wicked (part 1) was a solid adaptation
Saw Wicked last night. Only seen the musical once and for a movie longer than both halves of the original combined, the extra added minutes arenât wasted. I can't exactly praise a movie for storytelling when its legwork was done near beat-for-beat already in the musical, and in the original book, but if you haven't or won't see anything except this film: Yes, it has a very good story.
But I want to talk about what I think is the best example of a âmaybe they werenât so terrible after allâ villain redemption retcon, of which Elphaba is kind of the poster child of this whole trend. Why she works, and why something like Cruella did not. Not specific to this version at all.
Quick synopsis: Wicked is an alternate telling of the events before The Wizard of Oz, the backstory of the Good Witch Glinda and the Wicked Witch of The West. It is not the story of how good triumphed over evil, how Elphaba devolved or perhaps was always mean and nasty and underdog Glinda saved the day.
Instead, itâs a deeply political (and whoo boy is it relevant today) smear campaign against the disenfranchised and the minority population of Ozâthe talking animals. Elphaba is the underdog, an up-and-coming bright-eyed sorceress taken under the wing of her magic schoolâs legendary professor, with hopes to one day meet the Great Wizard of Oz. There she meets mean-girl Galinda and for about half a classic mean-girl storyline, the two are enemies. Galinda makes amends, the two become friends, and they go together to Oz to meet the WizardâŠ
Who is an even worse man behind the curtain than in the â39 movie, a charlatan and a fraud, who, when Elphaba refuses to let him abuse her magic to scapegoat the talking animal community, launches said smear campaign, turning Elphaba into a pariah. Galinda (now Glinda) stays behind as the events of Wizard of Oz play out, using her socio-political savviness to help Elphaba where she can. Oh, and the melting? Well, the Wizard isnât the only master of illusions.
â
The ingredients are all there for a ridiculously base âgirl bossâ plot about this OP Mary Sue who just will not get taken seriously by the ugh âmenâ around her (and this is absolutely a feminist storyline screaming high notes from the rooftops) until she shows them all theyâre idiots and fools and sheâs amazing. The bullying classmates, Glindaâs narcissism, Elphabaâs unprecedented raw power with magic.
Except it has the one thing so many recent âgirl bossâ movies donât: You like Elphaba and sheâs not perfect, and, you like Glinda (eventually). Sheâs not arrogant and flawless. Sheâs introverted and can come off as rude and unfriendly but she just lacks foundational relationships to help her socialize, and in the face of the shallow dipshits at her school, she has every reason to be rude and unfriendly.
Glinda, too, is naĂŻve, but not cruel, save for one moment where she immediately owns up to it once she realizes how badly she screwed up, risking the thing she cares about mostâher reputation and popularity and likabilityâto help a girl who selflessly gave her the other thing she cares about most: The chance to also become a sorceress.
But most importantly: Elphaba is a victim, not the architect of so much of this story. Mary Sues do everything right without any effort, they donât struggle, they donât overcome any fears or prejudice or limitations. Elphaba isnât the one loudly and proudly demanding an audience with the Wizard. She isnât going around praising herself and her abilities. She has a lot of power, but never learned how to use it, and she doesnât luck into her story, sheâs explicitly, strategically manipulated into her role.
She'd be more of a Mary Sue if the Wizard's offer was genuine and he was actually a good person, then she really would have lucked her way into fortune by virtue of being inexplicably adept at magic. But she's not, and he's not.
The story manages to build her up without dragging everyone else down. Nor does she "turn evil" because the Wizard doesn't respect her for being green, or a woman, he doesn't give a shit, he just wants what she can do for him. She "turns evil" because they have deeply different philosophies and he's standing in her way and she has no other choice but to flee and become a fugitive. She chooses this, the Wizard doesn't kick her out.
But even before that, Elphaba does become popular, her shallow classmates do start to like her (disproving any notion about how the world will hate her no matter what she does, so fuck âem), Glinda does actually have a heart and she is smart, just in a very different school of thought from Elphaba. The influence of the Wizard is just so strong that of course theyâre going to believe his lies.
Itâs not a story about how âthis villain was actually the victim of a Tragic Backstory and you should feel bad for them because itâs even sadder than the heroâsâ itâs âthis villain was actually the victim of a smear campaign, and the heroes are still heroes, but hereâs the other side of who they were fightingâ.
But it also works because of the story that it is. Ignoring the actual Oz books (and there are many of them): Precedent already exists in the â39 movieâthe Wizard is already revealed to be a charlatan. Wicked doesnât rip up the old script, tell you youâre wrong, and then plop in a whole new story that fucks the continuity. Nor does it ask you to change your mind about a villain who doesnât really deserve redemption in the first place, like, say, one who skins puppies to wear their fur. Instead, it digs into the fissures that were already there and pulls up the rocks to reveal whatâs underneath.
And, Elphaba knows sheâs going to be seen as a villain, but sheâs not happily engaging in âvillainyâ. Sheâs doing what she thinks is right, something the audience should agree with, and is choosing to become a pariah to get her way. She never becomes a âvillainâ, just the antagonist to the heroâs journey, and I donât remember the â39 movie perfectly, but âthis little rat from another world dropped a house on my sister and is on her way to kill me, tooâ would make one justifiably upset.
But overall, itâs just a story with layers and nuance thatâs sorely missing in its contemporaries, and, like I said, deeply political without strawmanning either side (wellllllllll...). And, it respects the source material.
I also donât remember the first Maleficent that well, but I think that also did a good job? Back when the live-action remakes werenât all hot garbage.
So. Yeah. You want to write a powerful female character very explicitly being a feminist icon (and the consequences that come with it)? Elphaba is the perfect example.

As weâre facing the next COVID surge (brought on by holiday travel), I thought I might try a different kind of COVID post. You can skip to here for some easy to do tips and tricks you might have missed, or you can read down for my discussion of why this is important.
I have recently been writing and thinking a lot about why so many of my friends and familyâs actions on COVID are so different from mine. Namely why so many people I know no longer seem very interested in either preventing themselves from being sick or, importantly, not spreading sickness to anyone else.
In my own case, the experience of staying home to stop the spread in 2020 forced me to strongly reconsider my behavior up to that point. Why had I ever thought it was OK to go to work or ride the subway with the flu, unmasked and taking no precautions, knowing that the flu certainly hospitalizes and kills people each year? Even if the flu was no big deal for my body, my behavior had limited other peopleâparticularly disabled peopleâfrom comfortably being in public during flu season. I had knowingly spread around an illness. I radically reconsidered a lot of my behavior, and in particular, 2020 pushed me to focus more specifically on disability justice in my activism. A disability justice framework pushes us beyond thinking about individual access to consider how ableism limits us all from liberation.
Getting back to why this reconsideration didnât happen on a mass level, understanding disability justice also means understanding that ableism is the current social order. And if itâs the order of the day, like other oppressive ideologies, that means we are all drenched in it and it is impossible to avoid ever doing something ableist. Furthermore, most people are going to act in ableist ways, most of the time. None of this are exempt from this, but not even trying is definitely worse!
I am also well aware that good COVID information is hard to come by, especially if you are not on the regular lookout for it. And if you do go looking for it, it can quickly get overwhelming. So Iâd like to offer here a very short, distilled list of things people might have missed since 2020. (Iâve not taken the time to track down citations for all of these things; youâll have to trust me that I got them from trustworthy sources or you can verify on your own. Iâm happy to give more info on any of these too.)
Some of these things are easy enough to do. Iâm offering this list because from a âstop the spreadâ mindset, each specific thing you do is helpful. This list is not meant to be comprehensive, and itâs hopefully not overwhelming. You donât have to be perfect or avoid COVID 100% of the time or make this part of your identity, but Iâd like to ask everyone reading this to take one step up in your mitigations for the holiday season, since this is reliably a time with huge increases in virus transmission. With around a thousand people still dying every week from COVID in the US, you donât know whose life you may save by being a little more careful.
Masking This is the biggest bang for your buck, precaution-wise. If itâs hard for you to mask all the time in public, consider masking in places that disabled people really canât avoid, like the pharmacy, the grocery store, and on public transportation.
Iâd also suggest that if masks are uncomfortable, try different kinds of masks! The Aura is my favorite mask â itâs tight to my face so my glasses donât fog and head straps donât hurt my ears like ear straps do. Wellbefore sells masks in different sizes and colors, and Armbrust has sampler packs. Just try a bunch and see what works for you!
Finally, know that if at all possible, you should wear an N95 or KN95 mask. This is a change since spring 2020 because the current variants of COVID are more contagious.
Mouthwash Washing your mouth out with a mouthwash containing CPC (cetylpyridinium chloride) before or after seeing people, or just regularly, will kill some of the virus in your mouth and keep you below the threshold to get sick and/or shed the virus to others. This is a really easy one; CVS brand mouthwash has CPC.
Sip mask These valves will allow you to drink without breaking the seal of your mask. This is great for airplane travel, crowded conferences, or other risky spaces that you need to be in for an extended amount of time.
Airplane The most dangerous time on an airplane from a virus transmission standpoint is the time sitting on the runway (because of the way they circulate and filter the air onboard). Even if you donât mask up during the flight, this is the best time to mask. (And if you do mask, this is the worst time to have a snack or drink â try to keep your mask on for all of this period.)
Space out risky or crowded events Donât go to a wedding and a concert in the same weekend! Illness takes 3-5 days to develop after exposure, so give yourself time to know if you got sick from the last thing before potentially spreading that to the next thing.
Air purifiers work! This is a great one for places that you canât avoid, like school, work, or daycare. You can make your own Corsi-Rosenthal box, but thereâs also a variety of high quality air purifiers you can get for $70-100. You want to make sure it has a HEPA or Merv13+ filter on it, and check how quickly it changes out the air in a room. Since COVID is airborne, there can be COVID in a space even after the person has left it. Setting up air purifiers and/or opening windows until enough air has circulated before you remove your mask is a great way to make a space COVID safer
Test before going to events, even if you donât feel sick Rapid tests (the kind youâre used to getting from the government and at the drug store) False negatives from these are rampant but a positive test reliably means you have COVID. The accuracy of these tests also increases a LOT if you take two of them 48 hours apart.
Better home tests are now available Metrix and Pluslife are both testers you can buy that offer a similar level of accuracy to a PCR test (that is, very accurate!). These devices are expensive, but so is another COVID infection: think of the missed work, cost of Paxlovid, and potential for Long COVID to keep you down even longer.
Itâs a good idea to get an updated vaccine 2x a year too; like the flu shot, these vaccines are updated to try to fend off the particular variants that are circling. Be mindful though that vaccination will not necessarily stop transmission, especially of asymptomatic cases. Handwashing is also good for general prevention, but it doesnât really stop COVID transmission. In the early days of COVID, researchers guessed that it was spread by physical droplets. Thatâs why we were instructed to wash our hands and groceries. But now we know that COVID is airborne; it spreads more like cigarette smoke than spit!
Of course, no single thing works perfectly. The best model is still the Swiss cheese model, but that also means each thing you do helps. If youâre reading this, please consider doing *one more thing* to take care of yourselves and others. I love you
