The sun had long set when the Lord of Suazo arrived at the gates of the Casa de León, alone on his tired horse. He didn't expect to see a lot of activity in the area, given the time and circumstances, but he didn't expect to find all in complete darkness either. No lights were on, no one was around, not even the keepers. He called for someone to take his horse, but no one answered. Víctor de León got down from his mount and walked slowly, calling to some of his servants, but he only got silence in return. The fact that the house was engulfed in total darkness filled him with dread and made his heart sank.

He made it to the stable, where he went to leave his horse. There was no one in the stables either, but the animals were still there. The horse of his eldest son Amílcar, Tercio; the horse of his youngest son Álvar, Aqueloo; the mares of his granddaughters, Atenea and Carol; the old horse that had served Victor himself for many years in the past and now was resting, Levante, and the ponies that belonged to his grandsons, although he couldn't remember their names. The Lord of Suazo felt a certain relief to see them there. Even if his family was far away now, seeing their mounts together in that stable brought peace to his heart, like a profecy that one day they would be together again.

Víctor walked to the front door of the house. He gave up calling anyone else; He only listened to the fallen leaves and the crickets, those crickets that refused to leave the night despite the fact autumn had long ago stripped the gall oaks.

He turned the handle on the large hardwood door, and it opened effortlessly. It wasn't locked. Víctor knew then there must be someone in the house, and they expected his arrival. Still all was dark and silent. Not a single lamp, not a single candle.

"Herminia, tell me that I can still say goodbye to you..."

Víctor unfolded the letter that he had received in the palace just four days ago, while he attended to His Majesty with the battle strategies, which each time had less effect in the face of the stakes of two clearly superior fronts. Delivered by a hurried and exhausted courier, the man insisted on it to be taken immediately. As soon as he read the content, the Lord of Suazo apologized to the King, who urged him to leave, despite knowing he would never see his loyal friend again. King Aaron saw that message as an omen.

Víctor had ridden fast and alone all the way back to his home. The note, well presented but in shaky handwriting, was brief but harrowing.

«Mother is very ill. Do what is necessary, but I can only pray that you return as soon as possible.»

The darkness, the silence and the emptiness were for Victor nothing more than an ominous sign of what was happening, afraid of being too late. He noticed certain disorder around; pillows and tapestries laid on the floor. Doors were open and many pieces, like vases or paintings were missing. But Víctor felt surprisingly oblivious to it. He only wanted to find his wife and his son.

Just when he thought maybe he should go to the mausoleum, he noticed the dim light of a candle flickering in the courtyard. Fueled by hope, he rushed there to see his son Álvar sitting on a chair in the further side. The candle he had seen glowing burned with others in a sconce on a table, on which also stood a bottle of wine and a glass. Another glass glittered in Álvar's hand. Half the bottle was empty.

Víctor approached slowly, afraid to speak. But as soon as Álvar felt his father's footsteps, with an unmistakable sound and rhythm after having heard them since his childhood, he broke the silence in his usual soft tone.

"Mother has died in the afternoon. Sorry about the cold welcome, but I have dispatched the entire service. There is no point in them being here anymore. I prefer that they be with their families. I told them to take whatever they want. They will need it more than us."

Víctor sat in the chair on the other side of the little table, shocked.

"I left the palace as soon as I read the last word of your message. But I'm late."

"Mother didn't expect you," said Álvar. "She didn't stop repeating, 'your father must be with His Majesty, Suazo must be protected', even when I told her you would be here soon. But in her everlasting stubbornness, she has left before you arrived. Perhaps thinking this way you would return to the palace."

"I'm not going back," Víctor replied. "I do more being here."

Álvar finished his drink.

"All is lost, right?"

Víctor didn't answer. He took the bottle of wine, and poured some into the other glass. My son was waiting for me, he told himself. He smiled with some serenity, and drank.

"This wine is excellent", he commented, as soon as he tasted it. "Is it from our cellar?"

"When Pallas was born", Álvar spoke, his eyes lost in the darkness, "my father-in-law sent 15 bottles of the best wine from Varedine. 14 of them were served on the day of Pallas' christening. I kept the last one, for her wedding day. So I could share it with Amílcar, with you and with... whoever would be my son-in-law", he poured another glass. "When they were leaving, I felt tempted to give it to Amilcar, just in case her... Far away...” He stretched out his hand into the dark distance. "But I felt that if I did, it would be the last link I would lose, the last amulet that would portend her return." Álvar closed the fist of his outstretched arm, and brought it to his chest. "But my little one is not coming back. I don't think there will be another time to take it."

Víctor looked into the glass. He thought of his granddaughter Pallas, who was in Varedine, or so they hoped, for they hadn't had any way of communicating yet. But the hope that she was safe and well, along with his eldest son, his daughter-in-law and his other grandchildren, hope for the future of his land and his legacy, yes, but also the flesh of his flesh, had kept a tenuous light burning in his heart. A flame that still urged him to fight. We have to try to give them a place to return to, he told himself. But now there was nothing in his mind but the image of his family, paralyzed in a past time, as in a court portrait. In that portrait was also who had been his daughter-in-law, Calista. Álvar had lost her too soon, and only now Víctor was finally able to understand the infinite pain of her son. Álvar has lost everything. And he still clings to this house, this land. The place where he was happy.

"Mother is still in her bedroom. In her bed, she seems asleep. There is no trace of the illness on her face. She is at peace. You must see her, it's wonderful that she is back to who she was, in a way ."

A tear fell into the glass of the Lord of Suazo, mixing with the soft wine of Varedine, which he should have tasted on a wedding day, and not on a funeral day...

Víctor raised his glass, in the direction of where Herminia's room was located, the proud, kind and committed woman who had been his life partner since he was 20 years old, who confronted death and decided to fight her illness in her home as last proof of her unwavering loyalty, and who had given him the family he loved so much.

"To the good wives!", he sentenced. Father and son took a long drink.

MOMENTS BEFORE SHADOW - A J.IAOQIU DRABBLE

i have been musing on this idea ever since i finished the 2.5 story, but i held off until i knew most people were caught up to avoid spoilers. even so, this will be tagged & the majority of it will be under a cut anyway as per my usual drabble formatting, but in case it wasn't clear: spoilers ahead. you've been warned and speaking of warnings: mentions of blood, themes of death, etc. nothing huge and/or detailed bc this is just a quick little thing, but even so.

So, then. This is how it ends.

The stone beneath him is cold – or perhaps it is simply he who is cold, despite the fire that is slowly burning him alive from the inside. He has never felt such pain in all his life. He has witnessed it, he has treated it, but experiencing it is… something else. The scent of blood is ripe and overpowering, a cloying stench thick upon the air. He can taste the tang of iron on his tongue. And yet, he has never been more at ease. That he feels this pain is only evidence that he has truly been alive. It is… comforting, almost.

Comforting, too, to know that he has succeeded. He would suffer pain like this a thousand times over if it meant he could finally help to save his general… or, at least, to help her to save herself. His blood will be the trap that ensnares Hoolay, leaving him open, vulnerable. It was a worthy sacrifice.

If he had the strength to laugh, he might. Once, he had scorned such sacrifice, despaired over the pointless loss of life he had worked tirelessly to save time and time again. What was the point, he had wondered, what was the point in saving them only to watch them die the next day? How far he has come since then, he thinks, and it is all because of her.

No… because of them.

They gave him purpose. She, who once asked if he could cure war. He, so mistrusting of doctors after endless suffering at their hands, yet so trusting of him. The broken pieces of himself that he left behind in war were too shattered to be repaired, but they forged new ones to rebuild him. He would not have had the strength to do what needed to be done without them. He can only hope that they will understand; that they can forgive him for this final act.

It will be Moze who finds him. Of this, he is certain. He always finds me. His lips part and he utters an apology to the sky above that the shadow guard will not hear, his voice little more than a rattling wheeze: he is leaving such a mess for Moze to clean up. His strength is fading, his vision clouding, darkening. Is it his consciousness departing, or the tumbledust working through him? Does it matter?

He is cold; so cold. He can no longer taste the iron on his tongue. The stench is fading. Even the pain, the endless burning in his veins, has dulled. He knows, of course, what this heralds. He is a healer. The pain is not gone, but he no longer has the capacity to feel it. His body is disconnected from his brain as it gives him a final reprieve before the end: a moment of peace, of comfort, in which to depart the world.

There is temptation there, to sink into blissful darkness, but he resists. He fixes his weakening gaze upon the world above this corner where he lies, discarded like trash once Hoolay had satiated his thirst. If these are his last moments, then he will spend them with face turned to the sun, even if he can no longer feel its warmth. He will take this memory with him, wherever he is going.

The corner of his mouth twitches into a smile. Though his world is almost nought but shadows now, he sees it: a flicker of movement, a familiar figure that darts from rooftop to rooftop with almost frenzied purpose. There is no hesitation to the path it weaves towards him. You found me, he thinks, both with relief and despair. You found me.

Moze sinks into shadows from which he will never emerge, and Jiaoqiu at last surrenders to the tempting call of oblivion.

This fucker. this absolute bastard man.

i have so much to say about him that would spoil the story but honestly i dont plan to make it a comic, its just my own silly fanclan ANYWAYS. heres a rundown of his story for u anon <3 tysm for asking abt him so i can ramble on abt my story

so he’s always been a jealous fucker and when his clanmate Sootstripe reveals she’s pregnant, hes furious. not because he liked her, but because he liked her mate, Lionclaw, and thought he was too good for her. to calm his jealousy and such, he has a fling with a kittypet named Bonnabelle, and soon brings a young Cricketkit into camp. nobodys questions him, as their clan has been raised on the belief that any cat is welcome, regardless of origin, and will not be questioned on it

a few moons pass and he’s given one of Sootstripes kits as an apprentice, Darkpaw. and to try and make this shorter, one day he snaps and kills Darkpaw. another apprentice, Creekpaw, witnesses it in a ravenpaw fashion, while hunting. Bumblenose notices her and forces her to be silent about it otherwise he would kill her the same. she, being stubborn as hell, tells her brother Badgerpaw, the medicine cat apprentice, who Bumblenose would assumedly never kill.

nd basically their story is finding some way of getting Bumblenose to be exiled but its proving extremely difficult as the leader, OrchidStar, and Bumblenose are very close, and she trusts him with her own lives

so shortly after Badgerpaw becomes Badgerwillow, he rounds up all the cats he trusts most. his sister Creekpaw, Darkpaws brother Slushpaw, and bumbles son, Cricketleap, and reveals to the other two the truth. Slushpaw immediately trusts the med cats words, while Cricketleap is shocked his father would ever do such a thing, but eventually comes to realize its all too true

so they confront him(minus cricket) aaand suddenly the whole camp is on fire. someone from another clan set their own camp on fire for reasons i might explain another time but it spreads to their clan at that time, so they all have to run and abandon it

while trying to escape, bumblenose, badgerwillow, and cricketleap get stuck in one area and the badger further confronts bumblenose. he attacks badgerwillow, saying he ‘had his reasons to kill darkpaw’, and is about to snap the medicine cats neck when hes thrown off by Cricketleap.(for reference, Bumble is average cat size and Cricketleap is a fucking behemoth. mainecoon size. bumble got launched.)

Cricket yells at his father about how horrible what he did was, begging him to explain why he did it, why did he kill his own clanmate? And at this point, Bumble doesn’t care now, thinking hes about to die and attacks his son, not wanting to go down pathetically. it leads to Bumble getting himself killed by the two, and they escape the flames, telling the clan that Bumblenose hit his head while trying to escape and died that way. hes mourned, but the clan soon comes to realize he is nowhere to be found in starclans realm.

*btw the reason creekpaw and slushpaw still have their apprentice names is due to OrchidStar. she refused to name them after they nearly died trying to fight an alligator all on their own. their reason was they wanted to try and speed their apprenticeship up, buuut they just got very banged up because of it.

the series made a point - multiple times! - that "hawkmoth vs cat noir = everyone loses". it was one of the key elements to maintaining the need for ladbug&catnoir to NOT know each other's true identities (and thus ensure the plot relevance of the love square).

there is no way to write a 14-year old facing their abusive parent in a way both consistent with the show thus far (s5 was all about emotional honesty & the series overall is idealistic)... and "kid-friendly".

it is a very, VERY bad idea to put a child in open confrontation with a parent like gabriel agreste.

not just dangerous in a "boss fight" kind of way but in a "you are putting a kid into a violent situation with their caregiver".

adrien (& thus cat noir) would NOT be able to fight his own father. hawkmoth/monarch could not be "taken down" without secret identities getting revealed because, for one thing, ladybug was only able to locate him because she LEARNED HIS IDENTITY. the "win" condition for S5 was the yoinking of gabriel's miraculous: i was very impressed by the boldness of the show in how the "ladybug vs monarch" finale went down. how much of its "something is OFF here" was deliberate versus being due to "we only planned for 5 seasons but got renewed for 3 more" has yet to be seen.

i suspect that gabriel "winning" was planned well in-advance, though the specifics of his redemption/changed!wish likely changed over time. the wish & "gimmi" were just too well-designed within the series lore to go unused. the full zodiac's worth of extra miraculous? THAT screams "this cartoon is trying to sell you merchandise"... standard practice for modern animation, tbh.

the extra miraculous DID allow the series to narratively set up its audience for how a "villainous victory" would affect the characters, their relationships with each other, and the story being told. shadowmoth's triumph, his claiming most every miraculous, was ALSO a very convenient means for the writers to get rid of all those "made for merch" super allies (from seasons 3&4) ahead of s5's Serious Plot Business.

oh! another reason why "cat noir vs gabriel agreste = everyone loses", aside from "do not try IRL" family dynamics, "hawkmoth is supposed to win" & love square retension for seasons 5+?

adrien is literally incapable of disobeying his father. not just because "do not try this at home" (effects of abusive family dynamics) but, like, actual magic. felix tried to get adrien's control ring from gabriel, like, 3 times? across different seasons? he kept failing. neither marinette nor adrien were going to succeed in ignorance where FELIX had failed (he had a whole villain arc about it). unless the writers wanted to write seasons 6+ of miraculous WITHOUT a lovesquare? ladybug AND gabriel needed to be oblivious as to HOW cat nr's presence consistently resulted in Bad Timelines for everyone: in the s5 finale proper, ladybug is only able to defeat monarch because... gabriel freaked out about how close her cataclysm-ready hand was to ADRIEN'S AMOK (&control ring). since ladybug is an idealistic teenager & gabriel was an increasingly immoral (& privately wealthy) supervillain? the ONLY way ladybug could have defeated monarch is via unwittingly threatening gabriel's son out of existence... or by killing him.

even then ladybug still - technically! - only defeated hawkmoth/monarch by getting gabriel agreste killed. from the POV of [future plot devices] & herself, anyway.

(that monarch was "dying via cat noir" anyway is just more fodder for the continued presence of the lovesquare/"ladybug & cat noir cannot reveal their true identities to each other")

for all the reasons above & more, cat noir could NOT have been present for the final battle against hawkmoth/monarch. it would have been a plot-holed character assassinating scenario RIDDLED with unpleasant, kid-UNfriendly Unfortunate Implications.

Honestly I think my take on the "Chat Noir was not there in the final battle" comes down to the fact that I kind of just don't think a satisfying final battle between Chat Noir and Monarch was actually possible.

I read a lot of fic, for example, and I've read the scenario play out a lot of times in a ton of ways and I've never been fully convinced of it tbh (and not because they weren't great fic!!). It seems just completely traumatic for Adrien in a way that the scenario inherently cannot properly focus on, because it's all happening in the middle of an action scene and Adrien is too busy being Mid-Battle to properly have a cathartic breakdown about it all. I mean, Chat Blanc already showed us what would happen if he did have a breakdown mid-battle (and why wouldn't he?). And though it'd be fun to have a big triumphant moment of him defeating his abusive father, Adrien simply isn't a character who would find that scenario triumphant, or cathartic, or anything other than viscerally traumatic.

Also, I agree that it's unfair that Chat Noir was not present— like it was unfairly tilted in Ladybug's favor— but I don't think it'd be fair if he was present, either. Because Marinette is, in fact, the main character. The main character whose character arc is primarily focused on her finding her footing as a hero and discovering all the responsibilities that come with that power (as opposed to Adrien, whose character arc is moreso about freedom and identity). And let's face it, in a fight between Ladybug and Chat Noir and Monarch, nobody would be focused on Ladybug at all. It's not about her. It's not her fight. She'd just be there as moral support and an extra set of hands, which really doesn't work for her character arc at all and is completely unfair to her!

Basically, it would just be Chat Noir temporarily acting as the main character and having the worst time of his life in the most un-cathartic battle for him possible left completely traumatized with Ladybug in the background awkwardly trying to comfort him after the fact? And then the season ends? And then the next season presumably goes back to Ladybug being the main character? After a time-skip to the new school year? It's just an ending that I feel like is a lot better in theory than actually on paper. And you can probably make an argument for ways that it could be made to work, where it would enhance Ladybug's story in a meaningful way where she still feels like the main character, and would somehow be triumphant for Chat Noir despite it probably being the worst moment of his life, and somehow not make the rest of the series following feel like bonus content as opposed to a continuation of the story...... but, I dunno. I think it's a lot easier said than done.

The fact of the matter is, I've always been waaayyyy more interested in how the aftermath of Gabriel's defeat affects Adrien than the battle itself. Post-Hawkmoth defeat is one of my favorite types of fic for a reason, and it's because the aftermath can be so juicy, especially for Adrien as a character. I think whether or not Adrien is actually there in the battle itself has always been kind of irrelevant to me, because no matter how Gabriel is defeated, his defeat will have immense repercussions on Adrien's life going forward. And the way they did it, Marinette is now a part of it in a more active way, too. Which is good for her character!

( Also, if he was there to triumphantly defeat Gabriel, would that mean he would just.... watch his father die? of cataclysm? a-and.... nathalie would just.... die, too? so he'd have three dead parents after all that? who he watched all die (or, in emilie's case, saw her corpse)? or is this a scenario where MONARCH BEATS CHAT NOIR and still makes the wish? is that cathartic? for Adrien to lose to Gabriel? Frankly, I loved seeing Gimmi and The Wish, it's been teased for so long that I was expecting it, and I loved the fact that Nathalie got to live as her narrative reward for coming to her senses and trying to murder Gabriel with a crossbow. I like that we got to watch a full season of Gabriel painfully dying to a cataclysm— poetically inflicted on him by Adrien, but of Gabriel's own doing. I like that Nathalie has presumably adopted Adrien after having an arc of her trying to be a parent to him once she realized nobody else would, that's so much more interesting than any other alternative. I just don't see how all of these things, some of my favorite things that season 5 gave, can still all exist at once with Chat Noir present in the final battle in any way that's satisfying. )

By the way isn’t it interesting how part of the reason Carpenter went back to her faith was because of how isolated and unhappy she felt around other people. And yet, when she finally feels belonging with others, she drives one of them away because of her faith.

And, later, once she stands against her faith for the bonds she grew, she loses the other one, too.

I wanted to put this one the previous post but it was long and this is a tangent but- In regards to the hypothetical "If House was my doctor I'd just tell him everything. Rip to all his other patients but I'm different."

The whole point of the show is that you wouldn't. Like a major theme of the show is about how the various shames and stigmas and habitual dishonesties that plague our societies both metaphorically and literally kill us. "Everybody lies" isn't just a cynical catchphrase, it's the shows thesis. Because of how we operate as a society, everyone feels compelled to suppress and hide things and that inevitably leads to suffering.

And there are plenty of episodes where this is obvious, ie "I cheated on my partner and gave them an STD." But there's also much more of "This little girl went through early puberty and because of the way our society stigmatizes women's bodies her single father never discussed puberty with her and she was so afraid and ashamed of her new pubic hair that she tried to shave it without telling anyone and mutilated herself, leading everyone to think she'd been abused and throwing off the whole case until House figured out her hormones were going crazy because she'd been exposed to her father's low T medicine, which he hid because of how our society regards masculinity, which he started taking because he began dating a younger woman (because of shame stemming from our society's unrealistic expectations wrt sex in relationships) which he was hiding from his kids, because of shame regarding our societies toxic views on monogamy."

A particular episode stands out as a really good example. S06E15 "Private Lives," which aired in 2010 but was fairly prescient about where social media was heading. The patient was a blogger who documented literally every moment of every day for her followers. She made it very clear she left *nothing* out, from her and her boyfriend's sex life to, eventually, asking for feedback from her followers on whether to get her heart valve replaced with one from a pig or a "vegan" plastic one. She handed the whole blog over to House as soon as he took the case and the team poured through the whole thing. Surely this is proof you're wrong about everybody lying, the team says to House. She's give us her whole life and you still can't find out what's wrong! Spoiler, it turned out the crucial symptom that allowed House to put it all together? Was the one thing she *didn't* include in the blog- Her bowel movements. Shame and stigma around talking about *poop* nearly killed this woman. It was also a detail that should have been picked up immediately by a normal doctor, who would have asked about her bowel movements as part of the standard checklist of diagnostic questions. But this woman was so confident that she'd laid out every relevant detail of her life in her blog, she wouldn't answer those questions, obfuscating what she was actually ashamed of underneath a pile of curated, rationalized, narritivized junk she could pretend was proof of a lack of shame and not simply a skill at creative writing.

When I say "I'd just tell House everything" is ridiculous, I don't just mean "well, because of the way the show works, you HAVE to be hiding SOMETHING." I mean literally, you- because you are a human being- are ashamed of *something.* And because you are a human being, the more info you try to give House the more deeply you will bury whatever it is you're actually ashamed of. And, because of the way the show works, that *will* end up being the key to what's making you sick.

In the beginning of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Peach is cursed to have her voice turn into bombs whenever she speaks*. The bombs cause explosions and shake the ground upon falling.

The prototype version of the game also adds Toads falling from the ceiling when Peach's voice bombs explode, which was removed from the finished version of the game.

Short Break and To Dos!

Hello all! 🍄🍄👻 I'm glad to see people enjoying Day 3 so far! I was so nervous about showing another side to Mychael in the update I thought people wouldn't like him as much but plenty have reacted positively! ❤️

I'll add a TLDR; above the read more, but if you don't mind my ramblings and want more details about everything, I'll write everything below! Light spoilers ahead!

I'll be taking a short break from MO development until 28th October to work on a short VN for the Monstrous Desires jam!

Regarding the feedback on Day 3, I'm glad people aren't as averse to the new side of Mychael, in that he isn't always soft and sweet. I want people to fall in love with a person after all, not a yandere caricature, and that means that person can get upset, angry and sometimes irrational when we don't know what's going on in their head even towards the subject of their affections. While some (understandably!) were shocked about his reaction to the mushrooms, it'll be clear as to why (hopefully!)

Some of you have given incredibly accurate theories, and I'll take that as something I've done well in building up the mystery!!! I'm excited to share more in the next update, but for now!

1. I'll be taking a short break from MO development to work on a short VN for the Monstrous Desires jam!

What I have planned for Day 4 of MO might be the biggest update so far, since one route will lead to a few official BAD ENDINGS as opposed to 'dead ends' like the current demo has. To those who really want to, you finally get to see Mychael at his worst. As usual, writing the script takes a few months with plenty of changes in between, and I don't wanna bulldoze ahead and rush the story when it's getting to the climax!

SILCO

Silco’s job is made a whole lot easier by you being a citizen of Zaun. He’s able to pretty effectively track you around the undercity without much effort, hell, he might even sick Sevika on you just to follow you around and take notes, who knows.

He’s really obsessive about making sure you’re safe. Before you’ve met, he’s got someone on you constantly, taking notes and giving him a detailed list of everything you do. He also manages to bug your apartment. He likes watching you just putter around, it helps put him at ease.

I think he’d have an easier time rationalizing his affection for a darling from the undercity; his whole goal is to make the undercity sovereign, and if you share those goals, he’ll give you a little more wiggle room. You still won’t be able to leave The Last Drop, like at all, but you’ll definitely get a bit more space than he would normally allow a darling to have.

Since you’re so familiar with the undercity, collaring and tagging you is a necessity for him. He can’t have you running away, so he gets Singed to embed a fucking tracker. You won’t even feel a thing, it happens before you even gain consciousness that first day.

Spends a lot of time breaking you down so you never try to run away; everyone knows how important you are to him, and that puts a target on your back.

VI or JINX

She doesn’t really care all that much. It’s a bit easier to get her to open up, but beyond that, I think she just sees the undercity as like the baseline, she doesn’t even consider that she would end up with someone from the topside.

SEVIKA

Makes her job a hell of a lot easier. You already know her reputation, you’re never gonna disobey her. Don’t even think about it.

Makes sure you stay on the premises of The Last Drop, keeps you cooped up most of the time. SHe’s worried you’ll run away if she takes you out, though she keeps you entertained by buying you trinkets and takeout. You’re just amazed to see stuff from the topside, you’ve never been, and it’s easy to keep you busy.

You’re like a kid, staring at the snow globe she buys you. She genuinely thinks you haven’t moved all day.

VIKTOR

Also makes his job easier. As a person from the Undercity, you understand his backstory in a way someone like Jayce never would. 

It also makes it easier to keep you isolated. You do face discrimination as an undercity person when you’re topside, which keeps you running into his arms. He knows you could beat him up, it wouldn’t be hard, but you would have no way to get back home, and your quality of life has shot way up anyways.

Your relationship is actually probably the healthiest out of everyone on this list, just by virtue of him feeling free to take you around town, though he does use the discrimination to subtly remind you not to leave him. You might not even notice you’ve technically been kidnapped, he’s so subtle.

CAITLYN

Season one Caitlyn doesn’t mind all that much.

Season two Caitlyn treats you like a fucking pet. She acts like you’re… lower than her. She loves you so, so much, but she definitely doesn’t trust you the way she would trust someone from Piltover. You’re never leaving the house, and you’ll never return home. She plans on cleaning the place out, anyways, so it’s not safe for you down there.

She probably keeps you on sedatives. She views you as slightly dangerous, so she isn’t willing to take that chance.

You’re a lot more pliant when you can’t tell up from down, and she’s free to just cuddle with you without a worry in the world.

A random collection of flaws:

- Pallas reacts very badly when confronting a truth she doesn't like or fear. After being wronged, even if it was true that she got a disproportionate response, Pallas makes a decision that she will regret later. She also gets herself into such trouble she is forced to fix it in her less desired way, leading to her having to leave.

- Kurt gets carried away by anger too many times, but you can identify what triggers those reactions. He gets frustrated and reacts bad to that frustration. It takes Pallas far from him, and also makes him lose his position. The good thing about him is that he always understand he is the one who made the wrong thing, and he hates that impulsive part of him.

- Bernhardt doesn't have a clear mind about what he really wants. He abuses his position of power, thinking that it will bring him happiness. But when he is given the chance he can't decide between power or happiness. Bernhardt is nice, but he is still a man in privilege who follows the doctrine of that privilege.

- Rosaespina hides too much inside her. She insists in showing herself like an impenetrable rock, and even if she doesn't have any problem in telling how she feels or what she thinks, she has a hard time showing vulnerability. The bad thing about making plans so far in advance is that everything can change in the last moment.

- Giustizia should have left the Lady Lioness as soon as she could. But we are unable to know the future. A hundred bad things and a hundred good things would have happened with one or another decision. Giustizia indulges too much in the "what ifs". Today her hands are tied and can't do much more of what she does.
