TMNT Name meanings

Leonardo - The name Leonardo means, (and I am pretty sure you can all guess), "Brave Lion."

For a fearless leader, the name Leonardo, was perfect for Leo's character. It suits him well in every TMNT that has ever been, even in the 2018 version.

Being fearless is what Leo is most known for, it is why his younger brothers look up to him and why Raph nicknamed him, "Fearless."

Raphael - The name Raphael means, "God has healed"

Even though I doubt the turtles were raised to believe in God and were more raised in buddhism since that is most likely Splinter's religion. I think the name Raphael is suiting for a protector like him.

Think about it, "God has healed" meaning, God is always watching over you and is always ready to help you when you need him.

You just got to have a little faith.

Even though his brothers questioned him sometimes because of his lack of control over his temper, you can still always count Raphael to be there to stand beside you and protect you when you are in danger.

Donatello - The name Donatello means, "Given; Gift from God"

As we all know Donnie if very gifted, so this name is very, very suiting and you know what, not just that but he is like a gift to the world. With Donnie and his brains, he holds the power to change everything.

Make the world a better place and is always able to find a solution to problems. Without Donnie and his gifts, his brothers wouldn't have the equipment they needed for the Kraang or any other threat and they could have come home dead without Donnie's doctor skills.

So yeah, Donnie is gifted but he is also a gift for everyone else.

Michelangelo - The name Michelangelo means, "He who resembles God"

This name is really, really suiting for Mikey. I know a lot think Mikey is just the goofball in the group, but he isn't.

He isn't the weakest link, he isn't just the baby brother, and he is not useless.

Mikey does a lot more than others think. He gives his family hope and faith when they can not find it for themselves. He is his brothers' strength. Mikey is always there to make sure no one falls in despair and keeps them forward.

He gives his family constant support, comfort, and he always watching their backs.

April - The name April means, "To open." - O'Neil - and the name O'Neil means, "Champion."

April I think is a good name because, "To open" meaning the opening of Spring which means like rebirth.

Think about how April was just a normal girl who had a normal life but then she meets the turtles and suddenly her whole life begins to change but she does as well. She went from a normal teenager girl to a half alien, psyche power kunoichi with mutant friends.

As for O'Neil, I think that is suiting as well because we all know that April is driven, and she will not stop until she becomes victorious.

(Pretty sure Casey's first name is Arnold so going start from there)

Arnold - The name Arnold means, "Ruler, strong as an eagle" - Casey - The name Casey means, "Brave in battle" - Jones - The name Jones means, "Son of John or Yahweh is gracious"

Arnold is suiting because despite his flaws and over-confidence, he is as strong as an eagle. He is full of freedom and holds the power for this need to protect others. He is always keeping a watchful eye, like many Vigilantes.

Casey, is always Brave in battle. He never shies away from it, only straight towards it.

As for Jones, Casey is gracious he is kind and courteous.

Monalisa - The name Monalisa means, "Beauty." - Painting represent - Cosmic link connecting humanity and nature

Monalisa is a beautiful woman, not just in appearances but spirit as well. She is so brave, so straightforward, and selfless. A true warrior.

As for the name painting, she is named after, even though Mona is not human, she still represents humanity.

Shinigami - The name Shinigami means (Which we all know), "Angel of Death."

Shinigami is a true force to be reckoned with, even though we have never seen her do it, she is shown that she will not hesitate to end someone's life and she seems to be the type who does not fear death for herself either.

She is not evil, just has evil traits and she only brings the fear of death to those who deserve it.

You know I had to save the best for last...

Miwa - The name Miwa means, "Beautiful Harmony" Karai - The name Karai means, "Spicy, sever, hot."

Miwa, I think was the perfect name for her! I know a lot of people like Karai and believe that she would never change her name to her real name, but I believe otherwise.

The name Miwa is way more suiting for this character than Karai. It may not sound as evil or as cool as Karai, but that name is suiting for the past Karais before 2012.

For this version of Karai, Miwa is better and I think I know why they chose that for her real name.

"Beautiful Harmony,"

Karai is Harmony. She is always in between, never one or the other.

What I mean is, she is not quite Foot Clan but not Hamato Clan either, she is not really a villain but not really a hero, and she is not really mutant but not really human either.

Everything about this Karai is always in the middle! She is everything! She is Foot and Hamato. She is a hero with villainess traits, and she is a mutant that can transform back into human!

I like to think that while Karai does not think or love Shredder as her father anymore, I like to think of her as the daughter of three clans, (including Tang Shen)

She has the spirit of her mother which we all know, but she has the heart of a warrior like her father, and she has the skills of a Foot solider like Shredder.

I believe Karai will accept the fact that she can not escape the things she has learned for Shredder, but she can take what she has learn and make it better. I don't believe Karai would want to stay Karai because Karai is no longer who she is.

Karai was a ruthless vengeful villain, she was Shredder's daughter, and a powerful weapon for the Foot clan.

Miwa is no longer vengeful or hateful, she was Hamato Yoshi's and Tang Shen's daugher, and she was no one's weapon or tool.

Miwa is Karai's future and Karai is Miwa's past.

I do not like the name meaning for Karai, I don't really think they thought that name through either like Saki's name. The only one I agree with is sever, that's suiting. But spicy and hot?

I don't know. I don't like it.

So that's the end of that.

I just love it when names fit the character, that's why I am always so nit-picky about names and why I always change them, is because I want it to be perfect for the character. I don't like picking random names just because I think it sounds good.

When you make a character, you can't just like throw stuff together, you know?

You have to think it through. You got a think about appearances, personality, the clothes they wear, the things they like, physical movements, their name!

Every little thing is important. It makes the character who they are! That's why when I watch shows or read books, I pay attention to every little detail. I don't just like the character because they are strong, or I think they look cool; I have to like everything about the character.

People put so much thought and work into their characters and for people, like my dumb brother, to say that's my favorite character because they look cool and are a lot stronger than the others. I think is just disrespectful to the creator. I do.

There is so much to the character than just looks and fighting abilities. I lot of things that they worked hard on, so you can get to know the character, you know? They make the character to be someone you can relate to.

Like Karai is my favorite character, not because she is a badass but because I relate to her so much! I never been through the amount of what she has been through, but I know what is like to have an unloved parent, to be in someone else's control, for your whole world to fall apart in an instant, to lose someone important to you, and to be angry and hateful.

I had to rediscover myself because I never had the chance to before and I am still trying to figure myself out.

Karai was my comfort character through those times because watching her, going through worse than me and still going on fighting, just gave me hope. I know that may sound stupid, because she is not real, but it is true.

I'm not gonna include 1987 and 2012 since I'm pretty sure in those versions Usagi is an adult. I'm unsure whether I should put Yuichi since most people ship him with Leo but you know what why not.

2003 Leosagi:

I actually really enjoy their dynamic and how they act towards each other. It's so sweet and wholesome.

My BIGGEST gripe however, with this ship is how much I hate the reused stereotype and how they meet. I stopped liking and ended up hating Yuichi being a bartender at Run of the Mill. It just became overrated. And sometimes Yuichi has almost little to no personality and is reduced to the love interest the main character must have. Also I feel like people should tag Rise Leo x Yuichi Usagi as Leochi because Miyamoto Usagi and Yuichi Usagi are two different characters. Plus I don't like how some fans get pissed off all because you don't ship them (ngl I have a huge fear people will attack me cause I ship Leo with a girl HOLLY SHI- Honestly that also would be funny at the same time xp)

I kind of doubt they will use Yuichi as a crossover with TMNT but we can always rely on fannon.

A good enough ship, 7/10. Mainly because I want more original ideas for Yuichi and that people stop copying each other's stories.

Really annoying and boring rambling

My TMNT iteration is literally just a crossover between TMNT (rise and 2012 mostly, but it's a bit of everything) and Wings of Fire so their all drakes and basically big mama hired Draxum to capture 4 baby seawings (thas the turtle's base tribe) and fuse them with other tribes as well as other animals so she could have new weapons and then Splinter is like "that ain't cool goat dude" but the turts are already fucked up and they are on the run in a cave deep in the woods where it's kinda like the sewers cause the cave leads underground in a network of tunnels. Then April finds it cause she's like "yo YouTube fam what's this OH SHI-"

Immediately has a panic attack when he first meets you

He's scared of you for like the first 2 months of meeting you since your RBF gives off mixed signals and he's a big worry wart

But once he gets to know your and sees how much of a sweetheart you are he calms down a bit

He’s now even more nervous than he was when he met you because now his heart beats faster when he’s around you

He doesnt like that you fight, he worries a lot and when you get angry he gets scared, whether or not its towards him or someone else

When you speak your mind he sometimes gets surprised by how blunt you are, but also admires it and aspires to be like you and when you apologize for it sounding mean his admiration grows even more

RAPHAEL

He found his soulmate is his first initial reaction even though he may have been a teensy bit scared of you but once he got used to you he saw how nice you are under the surface and immediately wanted to be your best friend

He warms up to you pretty fast since you both are so alike and he starts to wreck havoc on anyone who crosses him with you and vice versa

He didn’t realize he was gaining a crush on you he just thought it was just a strong admiration of you

He will know he has a crush on you early on but will act normally towards you not wanting you to suspect anything out of the ordinary scoping out if you could actually return his feelings

DONNATELLO

He is the unbothered King on the outside until you and Raph use him as a test dummy then he's gonna tweak the fuck out

Now he's gonna keep any sharp objects away from both of you

But he can tell you’re more sane and caring than Raph so he’s not too worried about you, by yourself

When you fight though he's willing to jump in if it's needed and will also help bandage up any cuts and scrapes

He's like a personal nurse

When you speak your mind he has the most exaggerated surprised face ever stands there with his mouth wide open and his hands on his face like “🙀” and when you apologize he’ll tease you lightheartedly but forgive you nonetheless

Your RBF isn't phasing him he will ask you if you’re alright though just to make sure

He tries to help you calm down when you’re angry just like Mikey but he suggests activities for you to do together that reduces anger and is calming even if you’re mad at him he’ll try to calm you down and will apologize for upsetting you

Everyone meet Mavis! A new OC. Mavis is a sphinx cat mutant/yokai. Mavis will be in both a short comic featuring bayverse Donatello and be a character in my TMNT AU/Iteration. He's very clingy and loves to cuddle. He will make this face to get his cuddles. He moved to NYC from Deutschland/Germany and speaks both Deutsch/German and English.

Having this character speak primarily Deutsch is my motivation to keep up with my lessons (besides Duolingo knowing where I live/j).

I'm still in the early learning of Deutsch and anyone that speaks Deutsch and sees any mistakes pls let me know. Thank you! /Gen

I'm considering turning this into a sticker.

Also showcasing the main turtles from my TMNT AU/Iteration. I was designing their rooms and ended up drawing lil chibis of them.

Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael are still in this AU/Iteration and are still the 4 turtle heros that protect NYC. These beans live along with many other characters in another state. They all do eventually meet. The main story revolves around these turts and their family.

Poe and Hall's are twin turtles that were born as conjoined twins. The shell on their back was one whole piece. As they grew older their shell began to become more distinct. After the incident Lillie Mae decided it was best to have the two surgically separated. Poe is a quiet turt and usually only talks to Hall, though they do like to go and train with Lacks so they've become more comfortable talking with him. Poe is into writing poetry and drawing. Hall loves to talk with everyone about pretty much everything. She loves to learn and will gladly tell you all about her recent discoveries. Hall is into anything and everything science.

Thurgood, while an amazing prankster, is very serious when it comes to being the leader of the group. He also makes sure while he's stern he's also fair and caring of his siblings. Holds them accountable for things while also encouraging them to and giving them advice on how to. He's learned how to be a good leader from Frederick, how to be kind and understanding from Lillie Mae, and how to not take shi- from anyone and how to be cool and collected from Nocturna.

Billie is the big sister and single mom of the group. Family is her top priority. She likes to make sure while being a big sis and mom she also makes sure everyone gets to live their best lives. Yeah sure they're supposed to be heros and serious but she'll be damned if they don't get to have a good life while they can. She loves to sing and Zappa (her son) has taken an interest in music because of it and loves to play the drums on everything.

Lacks is the medic/Dr/nurse/etc (basically anything medical) of the group. He makes sure to take care of everyone that comes into his care. He'll make sure that you leave better than how you came in. He was taught how to be a medic by a med student that had been staying with the family when they were all younger. The med student after she graduated continued to teach Lacks all she knew and gave him all her old textbooks. Whenever he has questions or needs help he will call her to get help/advice with what he's dealing with.

Divine is the fashionista/make-up artist/therapist of the group. Whatever you need he'll be there. He designed the clothes his family wears special so that they can fit perfectly with their mutant/yokai bodies while also looking fabulous! He's also the turtle everyone goes to when they need to talk things out or need advice. He enjoys doing drag when he has a chance. He also loves to draw with Poe and sing with Billie and Zappa.

Willow is actually really hard to answer for in terms of which character she will like because I could easily see her liking them all for wildly different reasons.

Mikey: him being the silly comic relief turtle in most episodes of whatever series you're watching with a lot of his emotional depth coming from being misunderstood or under estimated by his brothers. Not something she will relate to emotionally but I can see her liking him for how goofy he is. She encouraged Hunter's cosplay, she's best friends with Gus, she likes flyer derby (an unpopular sport, if I remember right???). She has a super goofy side and I think Mikey would remind her of Gus.

She'd like Mikey the best if she was going about this lightheartedly.

Donnie: this is kind of the basic answer. Everyone loves Donnie because he's smart and a great fighter. In more recent iterations of turtles, he's been given this sharp sarcastic side.

If she was a casual enjoyer of tmnt, I feel like that would be her answer.

It's with Leo and Raph that shit gets interesting!!

People who favour Leo and Raph always seem to be projecting a little (this very much includes myself).

Leo: a leader who feels like he has to carry the weight of the world to guide everyone to safety and often bottles everything up. Sounds familiar. Although Willow absolutely saw herself as someone who needed to keep silent to make sure everyone else was happy, I don't think she ever saw herself as a leader. Just the glue keeping friendships together. Leo also has a goofy side to him (looking at you 2012 and 1987 series) that I can see her enjoying but, ultimately, she would kind of relate to him on a surface level.

Raph: someone who is fiercely loyal to his friends and acts impulsively and often relies on aggression and his strength to help people in need. Okay, yep, we've seen this with Willow too. But what's extra interesting is that Willow never shies away from her more aggressive side. She adores how rough flyer derby is, she takes pride in her magic, she even said she wants to become powerful and strong as a witch to protect her friend to her palisman!!! That's Raph to a T! But what makes it interesting is that Raph's aggressive side is always painted as a bad thing in tmnt. Something that will get him hurt or too impulsive. I can imagine her yelling at the screen that Raph has every right to get mad and want to fight. She'd be on his side!!

But then again, tmnt goes out of its way to show the downsides of relying on anger and I wonder if that would open insecurities. Her watching the 2003 series and seeing Raph genuinely hurting his brothers when he gets too wound up during training and thinks back to the moment her magic spiralled out of control when they got back to Hexside after getting to the Boiling Isles.

I really don't know if this made any sense. I'm rambling about my fav shows at the moment. I'm tired and this probably isn't coherent. I hope you enjoy the film! Or at least have fun laughing at it.

I promise there's better tmnt. Ones where Mikey is less gross and the others have personalities!

Character Palette/Personality Palette

If I have seen the movie/show/or whatever this character is in I will let you know! But if I haven't I'm just gonna give my best guess to their personality or what I think they like and everything. I will make them two palettes, one based on their appearance and one based on what I think their personality is. If you'd rather not see this just block the tag "character palette and personality guess" I figure no one's tagging anything like that so it should be easy to filter out. If you genuinely like this character and I lowkey diss them I'm sorry, I'm not going to apologize though, you're going to have to live with it. Alright so this is Jiang Cheng from the novel/series Mod Dao Zu Shi. Haven't read or watched this, let's jump in!

He is evil. I can sense it. The dark colors, the scowl, the purpley aura? Evil. He's nasty and a bitch. However, I love his color palette but that's just cause I'm a sucker for cool tones. Love that shit. He reminds me of someone but I can't think of who it is, I think it's just the outfit and not him that does it. Like, the top half reminds me of a Power Ranger with the big sleeves, but the bottom half reminds me of Shredder from TMNT, but that's also cause he's got a dark kind of color scheme going on. I like it, it's really dope. This is the kind of guy who roots for the bad guy in every movie he watches. The kind of guy that actually goes "Hmph!" when he doesn't win something. I don't know what he sounds like but I can hear the anger, the deep voice, the sound of him telling me he will destroy me, not kill, never kill, but DESTROY. I like him, he's dramatic I can tell. The sword, the ribbon, the belt, the RING. I can tell he causes some mischief, he's a little trouble maker. I think the fact that he doesn't have all his hair up or all of it down says a lot about him, and the fact that he has bangs says even more. Something about him doesn't feel complete, like his outfit is missing something very important. I don't know what it is, but it's not there. Maybe it's a place to keep his sword or maybe it's a horse or something, but something is missing about the outfit. This guy looks like he's got a poison gas power or like ghost abilities. Oh my god, I can see him as a pokemon trainer with nothing but ghost type pokemon. That'd be cute, he's one of the elite four and you go to fight him but you have to face like two or three other elites before you get to him and they're slightly annoying but super easy. And you get to him and he's so cocky he's like "No one's ever beaten me, that's why I'm the best!" and then you just one hit his fucking Gengar and he just starts using full restores, like an asshole, for the rest of the battle. His character design is super cute, some sexy ghost culture costume, you know, but like battling him is the worst part of the game. Everyone hates him but he'd also be the character everyone thirsted after. I haven't even battled against him but I already can't stand battling him.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES ADVENTURES #71-72 (FINAL ISSUE) SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 1995 BY STEVE SULLIVAN, BRIAN THOMAS AND FREDDY MENDEZ

SYNOPSIS (FROM COMIC VINE)

Splinter and April are chatting in the sewer about the Turtles when the Sensei is reminded of a tale.

Years before, as Splinter was bringing home some pizzas to his very young students, he overheard a conversation on the street via a sewer grate. A young woman named Lynda Ling was being pressured by her attorney to sell her martial arts school and weaponry to Slujjcorp, which had designs on the dying neighborhood in which the building stood. Lynda told her lawyer that her deceased husband, David, a martial arts movie star, had left the building and business to her, and she had no intention of selling out. Reluctantly the attorney tells the woman that he will fight the corporate buy-out as long as he's able and he drives off. Splinter reveals that before he had mutated, he had been good friends with Lynda and David.

Later that night, as Splinter watched the shop from the sewers, several thugs arrived at Lynda's studio and told her to move out. Lynda, a martial artist in her own right, did not take kindly to their threats and proceeded to kick their butts. The hoodlums fled and Master Splinter returned home.

The thugs returned to their warehouse hideout, where a shadowy man in a suit gave them robotic exoskeletons so they'd be better prepared to fight Lynda. Confident with their new abilities, the hoods went back to Lynda's school. However, expecting the worst, Splinter had brought his students with him and they watched the martial arts academy, anticipating trouble. Soon enough, the crooks returned and broke into the academy. Lynda put up a good fight, but her skills were no match for the super human exoskeletons. One villain violently kicked the woman to the ground, just as the TMNT and Splinter arrived.

Splinter rescued Lynda while the tiny Turtles battled the super-powered thugs. Unfortunately for the young terrapins, their bo staffs were no match for the robotic exoskeletons' abilities, and each weapon was quickly broken. The villains noticed Splinter had taken Lynda, and they rushed after their quarry. Mike took two pieces of his broken staff and tied them together so they resembled nunchakus and threw them. The handles wrapped themselves around one thug's ankles and he fell into the others, sending all four sprawling down a long and winding stairwell.

One hoodlum turned and sent a spray of fire out of his glove up the stairs towards the Turtles. The blaze lit the Turtles' overcoats on fire and they dove through a door and rolled until the fires were out. They quickly discovered that they were in the weaponry area of the building.

As the crooks faced Splinter and the fallen form of Lynda, the Turtles erupted through the burning building with their trademark weapons now in hand. Armed with better equipment, the mutants quickly dispatched their foes. As Lynda awoke, Splinter and the Turtles ran for cover, while the woman lamented that she didn't get a chance to thank them.

Later, it was discovered that a local contractor, Don Tower, was behind the fires that were decimating the neighborhoods that Slujjcorp had designs upon. As the police hauled Tower to jail, TV reporters and firemen arrived on the scene. Lynda told the press that she wanted to thank the mystery men who had helped her. Suddenly, Shelton Slujj arrived on the scene and told Lynda that his corporation had no idea what Tower was up to and promised to pay for the damage done to her business and that he would rework their plans so the skyscraper would not impede on her business.

After everyone left, Lynda stood looking forlornly upon her property. Talking aloud, she thanked whoever had helped her, and Splinter emerged from the shadows to say, "You are welcome." The Sensei and his students had returned to make sure that Lynda was alright. Lynda recognized Splinter's voice as that of Hamato Yoshi's. As she reached out to him, Splinter shied away, stating that he had changed greatly and she would not find it pleasant to see him. Lynda replied that looks didn't matter, it was the soul that counted. She removed Splinter's hat and kissed him on the forehead. The Sensei introduced his old friend to the Turtles, and as a reward for their bravery, Lynda offered each Turtle a choice of one weapon from her store. Unfortunately, the Turtles all wanted her boomerang - and she only had one.

Back in the present, Splinter explains that eventually the Turtles were able to decide upon the weapons that they each now specialize in. As the pair walks in the sewer, they come to a familiar sewer grate. Splinter points to April and she peers through the bars - seeing that Ling's Academy is now the successful first floor business of a sparkling new skyscraper in the revitalized neighborhood.

REVIEW

So we didn’t exactly saw how the turtles got their weapons, which was the title of the story. But a funny story of how they almost did.

This story was split in two and reprints from specials were added in each issue. The reason being that Murphy and Allan got “fired” from the book for being too dark. Which, to be honest, is completely true for an Archie comic. But still lighter than Marvel and Image at the time.

The Forever War was supposed to be printed instead, but that never happened. The title was cancelled after this story and only a mini-series was printed afterwards (The Year of the Turtle). I will explain a bit more about “The Forever War” in another post.

As for the story, it’s fun and light, and the art is cute. It is not as good as the story where the Turtles got their colors.

I give this story a score of 7.
