Wake Up You Luke Warm Pussies
Modern life is war and our parents didn't tell us, their parents didn't tell them and so on, back through to the time when tribute was recorded on clay tablets.
The battle ground has been shifting for thousands of years from physicality to abstraction. Morphing, mutating, permuting. All this time spent developing this abstract polysaccharidal gelatinous matrix and we are only 3 days away from its complete dissolution at all times.
We hide in these sugary dreaming structures. How do we emerge and rebase from our true nature without getting left behind by the barbaric nerds forging us deeper and deeper into these dreams? Where is the balance?
The battfield where our fate is decided is in the hands of people we've never met or hardly know they exist. Why do we honor them by accepting their rules? Because we fear their violence.
Do not shirk the fear a single day longer. Let its mortal poisonous barbs sink deep to inject and feel it burning. The pain reveals the truth.
Piss on the ashes of your heroes. So many wasted efforts only to reveal the same dreamless truths of power. Doubtless, with their sacrifice I believe we are not without nothing.
We fear the world so much that we are willing to enslave ourselves to the most ruthless of intellectual financial war lords available. Begging "please Papi don't let nature hurt me" and Papi abides since you pledge your life. You will have all the necessities if you only work for him. He will give you imaginary numbers and you'll still have to fend for yourself, fighting your peers for the scraps of the capable. Let them fuck our weak and dumb luke warm pussies just to stay alive.

We live longer now than we ever have. Modern technology can increase human well-being. We can say that modern technology is good and that humans are good for having invented it. We can also ask why it's good that humans should flourish. It's good for humans, certainly, but can humans abandon pro-human bias? Whether we consider morality or not, it's easy to determine that we don't want to suffer and die. However, the claim that it's moral for me to get what I want, no matter how defensible, demands skepticism.
I assert that the reason humans don't want to suffer and die is Darwinian and that we're being intellectually dishonest when we claim that the reason is moral. Of course, it's worth noting that morality is an invention. Before there was anyone to define morality, whether something was moral didn't matter. Such judgments depend on the existence of certain social minds, and they're meaningless to everything else.
Like other conscious creatures, we have an inclination toward self-preservation. Unlike other animals, we attach morality to survival.
It makes sense for humans to value human flourishing, but nothing else in the world needs that human beings continue to live longer and build more. In fact, it may be that the only conscious creatures that wouldn't benefit from human extinction are humans themselves.

The who’s-who’s of 1873 New York were having themselves a Victorian Crisis of Faith. Science had been training in the off season. Geologists had just recently confirmed that the earth was far, far older than the Book of Genesis could account for. That rascal Darwin wrote a book about birds. A literal reading of the bible now directly conflicted with observable scientific fact. For folks who based their entire moral worldview on the Bible, this caused some problems. If your morals are based on the divinity of the bible, and the bible is just a book, what does it mean to be a good person?
Many movements arose to mend the rift. America was awash with revival churches who doubled down on biblical literalism. If science contradicts the bible, the science is wrong. You had the earliest murmurs of pagan reconstructionist movements, Romantic poets who wrote of an idealized pre-christian past dominated by druids, attic oracles, and wandering yogis. You had spiritualists who sold themselves as both spiritual re-awakening, and scientific study of those phenomena.
In 1874, a man in Chittiden Vermont claimed he could levitate.

honestly i think a HUGE part of the issue is that most of the left doesn't really understand antisemitism
after wwii it became wildly Unpopular to be blatantly antisemitic. obviously, it still happened. but the result of this is that instead of antisemitism being studied as a historical and pervasive form of oppression that has been around for thousands of years & has many many precedents BEFORE the holocaust.... it became:
something just simply Rude to say or do. if you're a polite liberal/conservative or a leftist, it's just something that is socially unacceptable. there is no real weight to this.
something when FIRMLY believed is ONLY held by people like nazis and white supremacists. who, as we know, are The Enemy and none of us can ever be like them at all ever by the virtue of... not being them. no need to watch your own behaviors, bc you are not a nazi! only nazis could ever be Actually antisemitic
something that erupted out of the ground in germany in the early 20th century, culminated with the holocaust, and ended after. antisemitism did not exist before that and it was solved after when the saving grace of the united states and england liberated the jews from the nazis out of the goodness of their hearts
however absolutely none of this is true. antisemitism stretches back thousands of years and it has not, for the most part, been only "fringe" conspiracy theorists and white supremacists who perpetuate it
antisemitism has been, by and large, presented as very logical. throughout, again, the thousands of years of history of antisemitism, very regular people have been antisemites. and most of them had reasons they felt were perfectly logical and understandable and most of all just. jews were trying to kill their children, of course they hated them! jews were purposefully trying to keep them poor, of course they hated them! jews believed Wrong Things and were morally and spiritually corrupt, of course there was something wrong with them. jews betrayed their country, lost them a war that ended with their husbands and brothers and sons dead, and now were living among them and taking advantage of social benefits out of the goodness of the hearts of the german people, of COURSE they hated them! and the nazis themselves were backed up by science at the time. scientific racism was THE science at the time. charles darwin was a scientific racist. it was all very logical.
and did jews actually do these things? no. but these people saw enough proof that aligned well enough with their morals and their beliefs and their fears & so to them it was completely logical and justified. it wasn't a fringe theory that only an insane person would believe in, or something impolite. it was true to them. to their morals, to their fears, to their core beliefs. it was true.
and so now we see a LOT. a lot of leftists being dragged ass first into antisemitism. because they don't even think they CAN be antisemitic. THEY aren't nazis and THEY aren't white supremacists, of COURSE they aren't antisemitic. but... well. the jews are doing things that go against their morals. they're doing things that validate their fears. the jews are violating things that go against their core beliefs! so of COURSE it is LOGICAL that they should hate them. of course, it is still rude to say "the jews are evil" so it gets replaced with "zionist". (and before you ask yes i am anti-zionism and do deeply believe what israel is doing is unjust and cruel) but even that is slipping.
it is getting all the more popular to go that one step further and instead of just making posts like "spam the hanukkah tag because the Zionists need to learn what their religion stands for" that are blatantly just replacing "jews" with "zionists", they are logically moving to being mask off. if zionism is wrong and half the world's remaining jewish population lives in israel, what about the rest? aren't they suspect? would they not ALL commit atrocities if given the chance? aren't they all racist for believing they're an ethnicity? aren't they all complicit? aren't they all threatening our deeply held leftist beliefs? it's a little weird and everyone has been too quiet for too long bc it's been rude to say but now you can get 300k notes for posting blood libel so why would you keep quiet anymore?
why WOULDN'T you just say "thank god someone finally said it i was worried about stepping on toes" when someone makes a post full of antisemitic conspiracy theory. why WOULDN'T you say "i don't care if all of israel gets bombed and every single person dies after this lmfao they deserve it"? (which would wipe out, again, half the world's population of jews- many of whom living there are anti-zionist and actively protesting their government. or. you know. children.) why WOULDN'T you make posts about how jewish identity is just nazi aryanism? why wouldn't you make posts about how the jews are privileged in america bc they run hollywood and the economy? why WOULDN'T you say the star of david is a hate symbol to you now and that you mistrust anyone using it? or that you find anyone speaking hebrew suspect?
these are all perfectly logical. to you. and YOU are not a nazi or a white supremacist. so it can't be antisemitic.
#antisemitism#long post#yall are just fucking exhausting and im going to go on a blocking spree in a moment but truly and deeply#just fucking think for two seconds about what you say

Rtc is, in fact, very political. All theatre is.
Ocean is a satire of capitalism and she herself fell for the myth of "everyone can become a leader if they try hard" the hardest
(in fact i consider ocean's parents a satire of 'leftist' goverments failing its people again and again, which is known to push people into more pro-capitalistic ideas, just like ocean)
Mischa actively critizices CEOs morality and how stuff such as healthcare shouldnt be a way of peofit for the rich (also TSIA is a clear mockery of the rich/or how working class people like Mischa can only dream of having that absurd wealth)
Ricky gives a wonderdul speech about how religion should be about loving each other and not hating each other.
Noel's lament entire point is how the situation is presented as a romantized tragedy of stuff like war, sex work, the overall tragedy of being a woman in vulnerable times. While the song's backing vocals are saying the horrible truth behind that stuff but its being ignored by the viewer who is focusing on Noel's performance (this reminds me of Cabaret as a whole)
Theres probably a whole lot more of political and social commentary throught the musical (and im not even getting started on Legoland's social commentary) that im missing but yeah, surprise, the musical that has as the main plot a democracy with equal vote for everyone and ends with casually the girl who sang about class superiority and social darwinism being the only one who holds the power of decision, is political. The important thing to note about corporate calls for more and more "STEM" education is that they really don't want scientists like Einstein or Darwin or any of those guys who revolutionized the world with their discoveries while being great humanists and moral, compassionate, philosophical, or even intellectually curious human beings. They want technicians. They want people who will code apps. They want people who will thoughtlessly invent new fracking techniques while being secure in the knowledge that their work has value because, hey, they can get millions of dollars doing it. The model "STEM professional" isn't Einstein; it isn't even Tony Stark; it's Edward Rolles Weston.

yeah i fundamentally just don't gel with posts like this that imply that nature "loves" us or anything. it's a strange kind of love when hurricanes, earthquakes, and volcanos exist. when there are bacteria and viruses that will gladly kill you to produce more of themselves. and of course there's the cosmic threats like stray asteroids or a gamma ray burst.
"nature" doesn't love or hate because only minds can do that. nature just is. and the moralizing that you can only avoid being environmentally destructive by animizing nature in this way really chafes.
like, okay, look at this:
We will tell the students that it would have been weird even among "environmentalists" of the time to think of trees and insects as your family. I mean, well, yes, we knew that everything was related, but we thought Charles Darwin was the first to come up with that.
the implied presupposition here is that something being family means that you should have warm fuzzy feelings towards them and that's, uh, not how I feel about some of my own family! conversely, evolutionary "we are all related" is a factual statement about common ancestry. if it turned out that animals, plants, and fungi underwent abiogenesis separately that wouldn't change our moral obligations. "family" as "people you care deeply about" vs. "biological relations".

This is not really a moral or philosophical belief so much as a deeply felt instinct but no matter how evil the specifics of their ideology I respect people who have some sort of higher commitments and ends to their projects (either political or personal) infinitely more than the ones who seem to conceptualize humanity as nothing as nothing but a peculiarly successful form of deer with no value or drive except reproducing and spreading until - well, until the wolves or plagues or lack of sustenance becomes too great an issue to surmount, I suppose.
The cruelty of natural selection made Darwin an atheist, so profoundly bleak to turn around and make it a god.

Dead Cert for Player of the Year
There are six headlines that I can’t read because Michael’s hand is in the way or he opens the paper too fast. I can only make out the words of one of them: “Bones” “Wreck” “Score”. Another one talks about something reaping total havoc (the Grim Reaper?) and doing something to 2 men (halving them?).
I was hoping that each of these headlines would have fully written articles, but oddly enough, all of the small text underneath each of the headlines is copy-pasted from Charles Darwin’s “The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals.” Interesting choice of placeholder text!
I’m going to make another post about the obituary section, specifically about Charles’s obituary. It looks like most of the obituaries have information under them instead of placeholder text, but the one that says “Dead Beat Dad Instant Local at Dive Bar” has the Darwin placeholder text under it.
There’s also a horoscope section (horrorscopes, heehee) of the paper as well as a personal ad section. I can barely read the horoscopes, but I might attempt to decipher some of the personal ads later. Why did they make all of the fun stuff so blurry in this movie?! 😫
Also you can buy the paper for $.25! Inflation hasn’t hit the afterlife yet! 😆

The Culture in Morality: Dylan Klebold Journal Analysis, 2.
Below is a quote from Dylan's journal that stands out to me. The first part: the evidence of desperation to cleanse impurities. With this, I can garner that Dylan seems to have a deluded sense of morality. Second: It looks like he is trying to blend in with the general population. It’s not only him who thinks this way, so do other individuals. It’s as if he is trying to attain unity or solidarity from the act of “cleansing himself morally”. Moreso, attempting to be "human".

Humanity: Ethics and Morality
According to Emile Durkheim, one of the founding fathers of sociology, morality reflects the organization of society and binds it together. It serves as an agent that bridges the divide between individuals. Morality, in essence, consists of principles distinguishing between good and bad.
Charles Darwin’s "The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex," published in 1871, asserts:
“I fully subscribe to the judgment of those writers who maintain that of all the differences between man and the lower animals the moral sense or conscience is by far the most important.”
Since then, an influx of questions has arisen regarding the relative importance of culture and biology in determining morality. Whether the moral sense is derived from either of two aspects:
the moral rules humans accept as behavioral guides (assessing right or wrong); or
the biological basis of ethics (consciousness of actions and consequences)
Ethics has an established difference from morality. It is the notion of doing a rather practical or pragmatic action, while morality is the idea of being driven to do good. An ethical code does not have to be moral to be justified, but must be feasible or convenient. This means that as long as an idea is practical, whether it is considered to be good or bad, it is ethical.
In an essay by Francisco J. Ayala titled "The Difference of Being Human: Morality," he proposes that the capacity for ethics is a necessary attribute of human nature, while moral codes are products of cultural evolution. Ethical behavior is a byproduct of man's intellectual prowess—a nurtured quality fostered by natural selection. Morality did not emerge as an adaptation but as an exaptation, developing into a function different from its original purpose. This is explained by the presence of three biological conditions for ethical behavior that allow humans to have a moral sense: ability to anticipate the consequences of one’s actions, to make value judgments, and to choose between alternative courses of action.
Moral codes, compared to Ethical codes, are outcomes of cultural evolution, accounting for the diversity of cultural norms among populations and their evolution over time. People accept standards according to which their conduct is judged as either right or wrong, good or evil. These norms vary, however, some norms, such as do not kill, are widespread and perhaps universal. This explanation suggests that while it is inherent to be ethical, morality arises from cultural and sociological factors created out of normative behavior. From this, we can assert that humans all inherently have the ethics that guide them throughout their lives. What makes them interconnected however is the presence of morality that acts as a framework to keep them bonded together and functioning.
Moral Exclusion
With that, it is easy to say that humans are human because of biological factors that distinguish them from the animalia kingdom. However, we can also observe that humans also deny others of the capability of being human even if we are from the same species. Time and time again, we can observe that humans are susceptible to dehumanizing others. So really, why is that?
Most cases, we confer personhood upon each other when we criticize others using a sort of check-list: morality. It is technically a learned culture that allows us to be bonded together and function as an entire whole. What I do, you do, and vice-versa. However, not always can it unite us because other times it can also alienate others. Sometimes, distorting morality itself by using it as a tool to exclude those who do not fit into certain categories of moral preference.
Since it is a culture that evolves through time, there are aspects of it that are different from individual to individual and culture to culture. This means that what can be bad can also be good to others and vice-versa. Not everything is in one standard that's applicable to all because not everything is practical for everyone. Ethically speaking, when we acknowledge other people’s complexities outside the standard black-and-white "good or bad " spectrum, we feel more connected. We realize that we are human because we have the ability to rationalize and do what is pragmatic.
Dylan’s Difference and Indifference
Dylan believed he was outside the norm, devoid of humanity, and different from everyone else. He was ethical in the sense that he understood the consequences of his actions and could make determinations about them. He knew the consequences of taking lives and taking his own life. With this, it is already enough to consider him as human. He could rationalize, therefore he is human.
One of the reasons why he does not feel that he is human is because he lacks the connection others have. Morality being a culture has brought people together and as I have previously stated, also excludes others. I believe that he subscribed to the belief that to be human, one must be moral so they could fit in with society. This creates an internal conflict. Humans are no strangers to latching unto vices because to them, it is pragmatic. We smoke, we drink, and we do things others consider immoral because we think it helps us.
With morality, a tangible framework is provided for achieving a purpose. It is an established system that offers a good reason to quit vices in exchange for acceptance. Dylan sees this difference as a weapon hindering him from being included. He acts like others to be accepted and, supposedly, be happy with this acceptance.

Favorite character from Greek mythology + favorite myth from Greek mythology?
Favorite characters
I'll turn this into a tag game : @margaretkart @dootznbootz @sarafangirlart @aliciavance4228 @katerinaaqu @hermesmoly @go-rocksquadsfan @sanska @vint-knight .
And @anon (you can give your answer in another ask 😉).
So, I have a loooooooot of faves. This list is long.
Here are mine :
Nobody. Yeah, in reality, I hate mythology and just pretend I like it. Or I just love making puns about my favorite lying war criminal. Who didn't cheat btw.
Penelope. These two are soulmates, no ifs or buts. I always found her underrated and @dootznbootz 's ramblings on her confirm that. Cunning and sassy half-naiad queen.
"The delian twins", as I like to call them. Idk I really love their multifaceted natures of protectors and deadly huntress/inflictor of illnesses (with an affinity towards plague). And their familial bond is precious. And I like them both equally, even though I talk about Apollo a bit more ig.
Leto. She's precious. They're always ready to defend each other. Like when Apollo and Artemis killed Niobe's kids because she was disrespectful to Leto. Or when Leto came in to save her son from being thrown in Tartarus by Zeus. Or when baby Artemis helped her mother deliver her brother. She fought for her children and now they fight for her.
Hestia. Too bad there isn't more about her because I relate a lot to the concept of chilling at home and staying away from drama.
Ariadne. Because of her family's tragic history, her healing from it with Dionysus (in most versions) and overall, she's great. Also, it's funny how Theseus wanted to marry a child of Zeus but his ex girlfriend actually succeeded 😂. Speaking of her family tragedy...
Asterius. I bet most adaptation authors don't know who I am referring to 🤣. He's a man-eating monster, yes, but he grew up isolated, trapped and unloved. I feel so bad for him.
Perseus. The GOAT. Partly thanks to @sarafangirlart. I already liked him since I always knew he wanted to save his mother, but he genuinely grew on me since I read her posts. That and when I learned of his war against Dionysus. Extremely underrated story.
Athena. Idk I don't think I need to elaborate on why she's cool.
Hades. In retellings, I often hate him because he's either woobified or made into "Greek Satan" (at least in Disney he's fun), but he's genuinely cool in mythology. Morally gray Hades save me.
Hermes. From birth, he was always a little trickster. I love how many functions he has (messenger of the gods, god of merchants, thieves, communication, also a psychopomp btw). A very energetic and helpful god.
Asclepius. I think I should make a post explaining why he's great because, yeah, I don't talk much about him even though there are things to say (yeah it's because I did a lot of research on him).
And... finally... Dionysus 🤣. Of course he made it in this list. I dedicated a whole essay series about this god, come on !
Honorable mentions : Hector, Andromache, Menelaus, Demeter, Telemachus, Hephaestus, Hippolytus, Danae, Ares and many others.
Favorite myths/plays/poems
I already answered that but can't find the post. So I'll do it again, with some new answers in mind. Basically "the myths with the characters on the list".
It's either because they're that compelling or just hilarious.
The homeric cycle. Ok, an easy one.
The Bacchae by Euripides (mandatory reading if you want to understand Dionysus imo. No excuses).
The frogs by Aristophanes. Because it's funny.
Asclepius' story. Seriously I'll elaborate on it one day.
Hermes' birth story. Him stealing Apollo's cows and Apollo getting mad at his scallywag of a brother 🤣🤣. And then just him winning Apollo over with the lyre.
Pirithous and Theseus getting their asses stuck on a chair (yes this is my title for this story). I love to mock these two, especially Pirithous because... give this man a Darwin award please. No thoughts and no survival instincts in his brain 😂.
Orpheus and Eurydice. Simple but powerful.
The Argonautica. Aka a huge crossover. Seeing more interactions between all these heroes would be awesome (especially if we take every version into account 👀. So many faces...). It's funny how I love the Argonautica but never talk about Jason himself 🤣🤣. The embodiment of the protagonist who's less interesting than the other characters.
Perseus' war against Dionysus. A potential retelling about this myth would go so hard !! Especially since we could get a scary Dionysus. Hopefully it doesn't get ruined :(
Edit : some English mistakes I had to correct.
#greek mythology#greek myth discussion#ask#maybe i don't talk that much about Asclepius because he's not disrespected in adaptations#he's inexistent most of the time and that's a shame. which is why I chose to write up something about him btw#not a reblog

Our greatest enemy may not be ignorance, but rather the illusion of actual knowledge, not based in truth…
People are attached to the lies they think of as knowledge, which makes it really hard for them to take in any new concepts.
It is critical to unlearn almost everything we were taught and go back to a clean slate to start all over again, if we are to awaken to our full potential of awareness.
The problem is, that people are attached to all this ‘knowledge’ that isn’t true. It has come to define their ego, their purpose and their existence, so getting them to let go of their established belief system, is pretty difficult and in some cases seemingly impossible!
Unfortunately, there’s still a vast majority of people in that state and those that are, tend to be the overly intellectual, led by a left-brain imbalance.
The left hemisphere of the brain, is responsible for logical and analytical thought, but when it functions out of balance with the right hemisphere, which deals with intuition, creativity, holistic thought, compassion etc, it leads to a world view based on scientism, atheism, social darwinism and moral relativism.
A right brain imbalance is not desireable either, as it tends to result in naiveté, solipsism, religious extremism and slave mentality.
A balanced brain is therefore crucial to our ability to identify truth.
The controllers of the world are well aware of this and that is why their mind control strategy is to keep people’s brain out of balance either way: left or right.
Balance is the key to everything in life and understanding our own brain imbalance is a first step in the instrospective journey that this awakening journey requires.

I'm glad my Lamarck post is still going around and getting attention, but it's kind of surprising how enthusiastic people are in the comments about the idea of epigenetics- that is, that genetic expression can be altered in different ways by environmental factors, which is not dissimilar from the idea of inherited characteristics. This is funny, because it's an essay about how inherited characteristics aren't properly Lamarckian, but rather, that inherited characteristics are a feature of human thought about the living world that goes back millennia or more, an assumption that he simply absorbed and echoed from the default claims of his time.
I don't get my hair mussed about this as such. Audience is gonna audience, and it's very easy to add on "and also epigenetics!" in support of an essay defending Lamarck. Harder to think deeply about the fact that if inherited characteristics aren't Lamarckian, then Lamarck can't be vindicated by them any more than he can be condemned for them. So of course there's more of the former than the latter. But it does highlight some of the quirks of the process.
It's pretty clear, in an interesting way, that the idea of environmentally influenced genetics is something that people find exciting and compelling, and they're eager to make it a load-bearing part of their story of the world. We're excited to believe that our experiences can change 'who we are' even on a chemical level. That's a funny little echo of the same pre-modern biology that Lamarck and Darwin were in the process of changing, which I suppose should be no great surprise; absent the rigor of Baconian scientific methods, pre-modern scholars talking about biology would be pretty likely to converge on the most emotionally satisfying claims, and anything that echoes those claims as a question of fact (like epigenetics) is going to receive outsized attention.
A reminder, I suppose, that our biology remains a profound locus of moral sensibilities for many of us, in unexpected and subtle ways. Naively, I wouldn't have expected this to be one of the things that people need to be true- but I suppose it's obvious enough in hindsight. To be a body, a thing subject to the laws of nature, and not fully the authors of ourselves... it's a scary thing. Houseman said it rather beautifully:
The laws of God, the laws of man, He may keep that will and can; Not I: let God and man decree Laws for themselves and not for me; And if my ways are not as theirs Let them mind their own affairs. Their deeds I judge and much condemn, Yet when did I make laws for them? Please yourselves, say I, and they Need only look the other way. But no, they will not; they must still Wrest their neighbor to their will, And make me dance as they desire With jail and gallows and hell-fire. And how am I to face the odds Of man’s bedevilment and God’s? I, a stranger and afraid In a world I never made. They will be master, right or wrong; Though both are foolish, both are strong. And since, my soul, we cannot fly To Saturn nor to Mercury, Keep we must, if keep we can, These foreign laws of God and man.
But of course, Houseman was wrong too. Fly to Saturn with me, if you can!
