Behind the scenes I wrote 26,460 words (7 chapters) in December, the second lowest wordcount of the year, across A Stain that Won't Dissolve, Underline the Gold and Smoke in Autumn.

I'm gonna be honest, it was a terrible month for writing. December is rough from a PTSD perspective (it's a chronological trigger) and I was quite unwell. I was sure I wouldn't even hit my minimum monthly wordcount until literally last night.

I apologise to all the readers of Palmarosa, I feel really guilty about not finding time to get to this story, and really want to, but was just too overwhelmed this year to do anything except focus on the bare minimum. Unfortunately Palmarosa is my 'when I've done the bare minimum I can play.' T.T I hope January is kinder!

Merch got sent out, most (all?) has arrived. I'm still on the fence about stopping merch to the EU with the new GDSR. Right now I'm continuing like I can send it! I love my EU peeps so I'd rather work this out than give up.

In good news, Underline the Black is going to being updated 3 times a month going forward, instead of once every two weeks! I'm pretty confident I can keep that up. :D And we are returning to Underline the Blue for January!

current tentative plan is to keep the monthly schedule for rose red book and adjust briar fic, but I need to figure that out + finish revisions on this chapter. I'm not sure exactly when it'll come out, but it is coming, and I'll let y'all know when I have a date!

January Blog Plans

I am officially back to work today, which means we are back to our regularly scheduled program. Well, hopefully anyways. I've answered all the asks I had in the inbox and queued them up for the week. Feel free to send more. I'm going to try to be better about answering things this year. (Key word being "try", since I don't know how busy school is going to keep me.)

I think I'm going to try to have a question of the month. This month's question is "What's new?" You can send that to any of the characters here and get a story ask in return. (Check out the post HERE for more info.) I'm also going to look into a prompt list of some sort, which I will post later today.

My July, August, & September Reads

Quietly Hostile, Samantha Irby - These essays reminded me of Irby's first book, Meaty, which happens to be one of my favorite collections—hallelujah! Quietly Hostile is so so funny and occasionally disgusting; it's perfect.

Housekeeping, Marilynne Robinson - Some beautiful sentences, but overall it is too much of a bummer. It messed me up for a few days.

Scattered Showers, Rainbow Rowell - Words can't express how thrilled I am that Rainbow Rowell has a multi-book deal for brand new adult novels. I enjoy her YA as much as everyone else, but Attachments and Landline—her two adult novels—are so cozy/funny/wonderful. Also, I'm old! I want to read about fellow olds. This collection is a mix of YA and adult stories; she revisits characters from past books and introduces us to new characters as well. The standouts for me were the Covid lockdown love story, the Attachments story, and the mermaid fairy tale at the end.

Less Is Lost, Andrew Sean Greer - I'm not generally a fan of road trip novels, but I'm a huge fan of this author and his character, Arthur Less, so I gave it a chance and thank goodness for that! I laughed out loud over and over again. Fingers crossed for a third Less novel.

This Story Will Change: After the Happily Ever After, Elizabeth Crane - I took this with me on a milestone birthday/anniversary trip to Mexico, and it was the ideal vacation read—I was riveted by the drama. Whew!

The Last Picture Show, Larry McMurtry - My first Larry McMurtry book and now I have to read all of them, because this one is a masterpiece. It's devastating but it also has some laughs, and by the end I fully believed the characters were real. If you read this based on my recommendation and don't like it......I simply don't care and you don't need to tell me!

Because of Winn-Dixie, Kate DiCamillo - This was on the shelves at my Airbnb in Guanajuato, and I couldn't resist the opportunity to re-read it on what must be one of the world's most beautiful balconies. Kate DiCamillo, thank you, you goddess.

another housekeeping post from chanel! as i’ve stated on ruggie’s blog, i will currently be on hiatus in the month of march in order to fulfill irl obligations and to focus event organization for the directory. i will try to have azul make an appearance on the dash periodically. if i do pick up interactions, i’d prefer if they were minis rather than fully plotted threads, due to time constraints rn. 

monthly goal. i will be prioritizing azul’s birthday interactions (turn thine eyes away when i drop a bday drabble days after his bday has since passed LMFAO) since they’re somewhat time limited. i was hoping to make it clear through the drabble i was writing, but i didn’t have time to finish it before his bday appeared, but as a reminder: azul canonically doesn’t accept birthday gifts, unless you’re a future prospect for his entrepreneurial endeavors aka unless you’re wealthy and/or influential (ie kalim). (source: birthday boy log-in greeting, bloom bouquet log-in greeting, bloom bouquet voice line) please don’t be mad when he turns away your gift-- he appreciates the greetings though!

happy march, everyone! both of my blogs are currently on hiatus for the month, more for an ease of mind since i’m in the thick of midterms + would like to prioritize event planning for the directory. that being said, ruggie (and azul by extension) will still pop up on the dash occasionally. 

monthly goal! i’m not going to prioritize the # of replies or word count that i can bust out this month due to the hiatus, so the goal is going to be very simple: complete ruggie’s stamp card this month. 

edit: i just remembered that i had a drabble outlined higlighting ruggie’s independent pursuit in fostering his magic pre-nru, and an insatiable desire to seize control of a gift not meant for ‘people like him.’ idk if i can finish it this month, but it’s coming.

Behind the scenes I wrote 30,204 words in August across Underline the Black, Constellations, and Underline the Blue. In reality, I only wrote one chapter of the last two, and seven chapters of Underline the Black. The most I've written in any month this year. This is why there was no Palmarosa update! I'm so sorry!

The burnout is real, folks. This month (September) I'm also starting back into my tumour/cancer surveillance (I have 3 head/neck tumours, 2 have been treated with radiotherapy but never shrunk, and 1 hasn't been treated at all, so they all need regular monitoring for the rest of my life). This stuff tires me out, the scanxiety is real.

I feel like one day I'll look back on 2024 as a really hard year, and I know I'm not the only one. If you're reading this now, and you're going through a hard year, I'm sending you love and solidarity, because there just seems to be a lot of shit going on for mostly everyone. Please hang in there, we all deserve better years.

AITA for poisoning a child over mountain dew?

For context, I (17) have a developed a slight addiction to mountain dew over quarantine. it's one of my favorite soft drinks. Every month I buy a case of it with my own money when my parents do their monthly grocery shopping and that is my allotted stashe for the month. However, I've noticed for about two years now that my stashe is running out sooner than I expected, the first few times I've simply thought I miss calculated but later I suspected it was being stolen after I kept rigorous track of how much I drank. I told my parents but they said I shouldn't get so worked up over it, and if I really wanted to keep it safe I should keep it locked up somewhere. So I did. Afterwards, almost weekly I've had our maid/housekeeper(a distant cousin of my mom's- we do pay her) ask me for my soda. I suspected that she might've been the soda stealer so out of spite I refused to give her from "my" stashe, instead offering to buy some/give her the money and she refused. Even after that, a couple months later I've noticed it running out sooner again. I pointed it out to my parents and they did nothing still. I hid my keys. It stopped the stealing for a few weeks but then it started again. I've confronted her about it but she denies it and blames me for for suspecting her when she does so much for us. And my mom refuses to discuss it with her either, saying I'm making such a big deal out of something like soda and that I probably miscalculated anyways. I've taken photographic evidence of my shit going missing (taking a photo before going to school and coming home with a bottle missing) and still she say to "let it go". At this point, it's not even about the soda for me. It's about the fact I brought this shit with my own money and it's being stolen EVEN AFTER I TRIED EVERYTHING TO PREVENT IT and its been going on for TWO YEARS. And I can't help but feel paranoid and suspect her whenever any of my other possessions start disappearing.

Here comes the poisoning part. I've recently developed some gastrointestinal issues, so I have to take prescribed laxatives. I've had enough of my shit being stolen and I've decided whoever steals it needs to shit themselves and maybe then they'll stop. I marked out a few bottles and carefully opened them and mixed in the laxative(About half dose per bottle) before resealing them thoroughly. I put them in front of all the other non-laced drinks so they're the easiest ones to grab. Sure enough, they've been stolen. And a few days later she comes to my mom complaining that her grandson keeps getting diarrhea and she has no idea why. I told her maybe she shouldn't feed a <10 yr old mountain dew and she was like, "How do you know it was the dew that caused it?" I just shrugged and told her I had a hunch, but with the way she stared at me I think she understood what I had did. Later on my mom yelled at me for pulling that stunt, and I was honestly sick of her shit and told her next time I'm mixing in rat poison and I wont even be labeling the laced ones. like. stop taking my shit without asking. especially shit i brought with my own money.

Lead by Co-Captains (and exes) Aurelia and Sim, Starship Q Star follows this madcap crew on their quest across the galaxy in search of a new home… which is basically one hilarious mishap after the other.

I suppose if you found the absolutely two perfect ex-girlfriends and sent them to Mars, then they could potentially… co-captain?

Life With LEO(h)

A sci-fi(ish) romantic comedy podcast starring a repressed lawyer, a criminal client, a pesky sister and her fiance, an infuriatingly sexy coworker, and an android in the mood for love. Jeanine Bell​ is a robotics intelligence lawyer whose laser focus on her career has come at the expense of her romantic and social lives. After successfully keeping AI genius Penelope Lane out of prison, Jeanine receives the gift of LEO(h),​ an android with Synthetic Sentience. LEO(h) is Loving, Empathetic, Optimistic, and (only sorta) helpful. He's programmed to love Jeanine. He’s also very, very illegal.

I'm only two episodes in and already so invested in this story! Jeanine and LEO(h) are absolutely adorable.

(Note: as far as I know, the main romance isn't queer, but there are other queer characters in the show.)

In What Will Be Here?, five friends send a rocket to space with a collection of recordings on it that document the world’s decline, the stories they want to tell, and their efforts in building this rocket to get their message to the stars. They wonder what their world will have become by the time their message is listened to. At its core, this show is about living and creating when things feel pointless. It's a story that came out of the pandemic, and the landscape in which this story was written and produced greatly influenced how it turned out. What Will Be Here? is set on earth 200 years in the future, where large-scale crises are fully normalized. But despite the bleak backdrop, this story is one of hope - of overcoming challenges, of making things that might be temporary, but also things that might be launched into space and continue on forever.

Dungeon Masters

Dungeon Masters takes a behind-the-curtain look into the world of Dungeons & Dragons, told through the lenses of the creator of the game, Gary Gygax, played by Wil Wheaton and of private investigator, William Dear, played by Jon Hamm, a swashbuckling tough guy in 1979. Gygax guides the audience through this incredible true story as our Dungeon Master, as we follow Dear on his quest to find Dallas Egbert, a Michigan State student, who supposedly disappeared in the steam tunnels under his university while enacting a real-life version of D&D. What Dear encounters on this journey and ultimately discovers, defies all expectations, and changes the culture as we know it.

The Diaries of Netovicius the Vampire

Neto is an artist first, an immortal vampire second, but for now he's being kicked out of his Beacon Hill apartment in Boston Mass. That's where we begin, but more than a year into this audio-series I can't believe the journey Neto, and me, the creator have been on. But that's a longer story than I can get into here. For now, I hope there is something in this audio-series for you. It's about vampires, but ultimately it's about recovery, from trauma, from alcoholism, even from cults. It asks: Does time really heal all wounds? Featuring VAs known for Valorant, Diablo IV & Overwatch

The Cryptid Factor

Three best buddies - Rhys Darby, Dan Schreiber, and Leon 'Buttons' Kirkbeck bring you The Cryptid Factor - a podcast dedicated to all things weird that are yet to be defined by science. Since 2008 they have passionately (and often awkwardly) been discussing 'cryptids' and monsters like Yeti, Chupacabra, Bigfoot and Nessie - as well as weird news of the world, UFO's, Time travellers, robots and space stuff. Though they take these pseudosciences as seriously as they can, they struggle to take themselves seriously at all. Hosted by comedian and actor Rhys Darby, star of top rating podcast 'No Such Thing as a Fish' Dan Schreiber - and Pulling it all together is their best friend, 'Buttons'. If anything goes wrong, it is probably his fault.

Hi everyone! We’ve hit the six month anniversary of Rexsoka Monthly, can you believe it?! In light of this, we wanted to do a little housekeeping in the form of an activity check. If you’re not familiar with what this is, it’s when a server asks members to confirm that they’re still active and removes any who aren’t. It helps to keep the server nice and tidy, and weed out anyone who might be lurking for the wrong reasons.

What defines “active”? So long as you want to remain part of this server to support Rexsoka!
