Stop the Stigma

People have cancer or have diabetes

And when they die it's cause of a disease.

People mourn for the victims of homicide

But blame the victims of suicide.

I just don't understand this stupid enigma

That people can't see through the mental health stigma.

I'm so overwhelmingly sick that I can't get out of bed.

But I'm considered lazy cause it's all in my head.

Escape

I write all these poems to quiet my need

To self harm, swim in shame, and the thoughts that just feed

On the idea that I'll never have happiness or joy.

These thoughts that think they're so sneaky and coy.

But they're pain and destruction inside of my mind

And I write all these poems so that I can find

Some release and some freedom, not fame and applause.

These poems give me release and they fight the true cause.

They bring light to the darkness as I shout to the void.

I know this pain's constant and I still get annoyed

That it won't go away and I'll never be healed.

But, that doesn't mean that I have to stay concealed.

And once I have learned how to handle the strife,

I'll be able to go make the most of my life.

I'm still fighting.

Every day is a fight.

I feel like I *need* to fight because I'm afraid once I don't, I'll forget how. And then when I forget, I'll need to again and I'll be raw. Exposed. Vulnerable.

The fight keeps me strong. Real. Guarded. Safe.

I fight so I can feel.

I fight so I know I'm alive.

I fight so I don't let the things, the monsters inside my head, win. Take over.

But because I fight, I'll never know peace.

Calm. Quiet. Safety.

I fight to stay alive. But I wonder if the only peace I'll know is when I'm not alive anymore. Because only then is when the fight stops.
