How Automation Affects Your Floor Space
One of the areas often overlooked when planning for automation is the way automation changes the floor space inside a metal fabrication company. It’s not exactly an issue of more space vs. less space, it’s a different way to use the same space. For example, you might have to think in a “cell” fashion rather than in a linear fashion, where next steps succeed each other literally down the line.
Here are some of the areas to consider when planning for automation, and the ways it can potentially change and make use of your space:
Efficient Space Utilization: Automated equipment can have a more compact and efficient design compared to traditional machinery. This can lead to better utilization of space, allowing more operations to be conducted in the same area. For example, automated storage and retrieval systems can utilize vertical space more effectively than manual storage. This three-dimensional thinking is still somewhat new in our business.
Reconfiguration of Layout: Automation may require a reconfiguration of the shop floor layout. Machines might need to be arranged differently to optimize workflow and accommodate automated systems. This might involve centralizing certain operations or creating specific areas for automated processes.
Reduction in Storage Space: Automation can lead to a reduction in the amount of space needed for storage. Automated systems often include just-in-time manufacturing processes, which minimize the need for storing large amounts of inventory on the shop floor.
Increased Safety Zones: Automated machinery might require additional safety measures, such as barriers or designated safety zones, which could take up additional floor space. This is necessary to ensure the safety of workers operating near automated equipment.
Decreased People Zones. Because of the additional cages and safety areas, “people” zones will shrink, and that must be considered when planning traffic through a shop. This is particularly true when considering the lanes for bringing 10 x 5 sheets of steel through the plant.
Room for Expansion: With automation, some processes become more efficient, potentially freeing up space that was previously used for less efficient processes. This space can be repurposed for new machines, expansion of existing operations, or for processes that are still manual.
Integration Space: If automation involves the integration of different machines and systems (such as conveyors linking different production stages), additional space might be needed to accommodate these integrations.
Space for Control and Monitoring: Automated systems often require spaces for control units, computers, and monitoring equipment. This might mean setting aside areas for control rooms or stations.
Potential for Scalability: Automated systems are often more scalable than manual operations. As the business grows, it might be easier to add new automated units or scale existing ones within the same space, rather than having to expand the physical footprint of the shop.
In summary, automation in metal fabricating can lead to more efficient use of space, require reconfiguration of the shop floor, increase safety zones, and potentially change storage and control needs. The overall impact on floor space can vary depending on the specific type of automation implemented and the existing layout and processes of the shop.

Sorry to my inbox, I know I have messages to respond to, unfortunately my state is currently under water and I have family and friends and neighbors I'm trying to locate and help atm. If you see me on here it's not because I'm here, it's because I'm trying to get five fucking minutes where my head isn't just airraid sirens
Much love to all, we are all just doing our best to survive ❤️💚
#finally heard back from my sister in law this morning#thankfully she and my brother in law and their kids are all safe#they've been having power outages tho which worries me because i know nico is still pretty medically fragile and he has a fair amount of#equipment that requires power like his oxygen tank and heart monitors#i asked if they have a generator and sil said no but thankfully none of the outages have lasted more than a few hours yet and nico is ok#but we're probably gonna work together to get both households a generator before the season ends#meanwhile my friends down south still can't be located for over 48 hrs now and the landslides have been a major safety concern#i've put feelers out in and out of the community but I'll be calling the red cross soon if I can't find them#black mountain is literally underwater and there's a number of people I know who are trying to help#lmao the crisis really never stops huh

Today's mood:
Satisfaction - I assembled a folding table cart by myself with no major issues!
Mild frustration - my work email migrated or upgraded or integrated or did some other enterprise level upgrade (shows how much attention i was paying in the info meeting) and it broke all my email rules. Outlook users might think I'm being extra, but I get upwards of 700 emails every day, and I'd drown without rules.
Amused Puzzlement - I have the will to write again, but my brain has a sense of humor because it's currently just shipping. Maybe the novelty of it is what's giving me the drive.
#I get automated emails from the equipment i monitor so it's mostly just#“[MACHINE] completed a self-test overnight.”#the computer equivalent of “Twelve o'clock and all's well!”#as for the shipping i've already decided that i will indulge my own preferences#and if i ever publish it you'll probably see what i mean

random annoying Thresher fact is that bc they play turf purely for their own personal entertainment and exercise they’re not concerned with much of anything else like winning, or making sure anyone else is having fun, or “sportsmanship”(????) or what ever,
Which isn’t normally a problem bc they’re not particularly an asshole player either but if they get matched against like, a really good charger or something, that completely shuts down any attempt to play the game normally, or something to that effect where they are not having any fun at all they’ll just disconnect mid match. Usually not even early enough to stop the entire match because they’ll initially give it a whirl you know to see if they can’t turn things around. But then if they can’t they’ll just unplug some part of the safety equipment to trigger a “disconnect” and leave everyone else to fend for themselves. They don’t care about the time out afterwards. They have better things to do than get repeatedly spawncamped by an E-Liter thank u. Is there a problem. They’re going to get a sandwich.

kills me when ppl at work just walk up like “i dont like this policy. make an exception for me” and its like. my brother in corporate. i don’t make the rules. i maybe would try and pull a few strings if you needed it or whatever but just being self-entitled and demanding will do nothing but make me lower you on the priority rating of ppl im happy to help
#when ppl go wehhh i want an extra monitor!!! and im like ok! you have the maximum amount of allotted monitors. you or your team can buy one#though! (which is literally our policy)#and theyre like well WE dont want to buy it. you should. like man if we were ok buying extra 400$ high end monitors at the drop of a hat#we’d be bankrupt. like theres a reason everyone has a standard equipment kit with extra items covered per person per team#so no yeah im not taking money from my budget because youre too lazy to use splitscreen instead of a third monitor#t#work#bro got so selfish he forgot it’s bad optics to spend taxpayer money on bullshit

"AC Maintenance Tips for Homes and Businesses in Saudi Arabia’s Harsh Climate"

Air conditioning systems are vital for both homes and businesses in Saudi Arabia, where temperatures often soar to extreme levels. Ensuring that your AC unit functions at its best is essential not only for comfort but also for maintaining efficiency and reducing energy costs. Proper maintenance can prevent unexpected breakdowns during the hottest months, while also prolonging the lifespan of your system.
To maintain an efficient and reliable cooling system, many property owners opt for professional AC maintenance services to ensure their air conditioning units stay in top condition. Regular maintenance services can help identify potential issues before they escalate, avoiding costly repairs or the need for a full replacement.
1. Regular Filter Cleaning and Replacement
One of the simplest yet most effective maintenance tasks for any air conditioning system is regular filter cleaning or replacement. In Saudi Arabia’s dusty environment, filters can quickly become clogged with dust and debris, making the system work harder and reducing efficiency. Dirty filters restrict airflow, which not only increases energy usage but also decreases the unit's ability to cool properly. For both homes and businesses, it is recommended to clean or replace filters every one to three months, depending on the frequency of use.
2. Inspect and Clean Condenser Coils
The outdoor unit of your air conditioning system contains condenser coils that are responsible for releasing the heat absorbed from the indoor air. These coils are exposed to the elements, and in a harsh climate like Saudi Arabia, dust, dirt, and debris can easily accumulate. When the coils are dirty, the system's ability to dissipate heat is compromised, leading to reduced cooling performance and higher energy consumption. Regular cleaning of the condenser coils helps ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
3. Check Refrigerant Levels
For your AC system to cool effectively, it needs the correct amount of refrigerant. Low refrigerant levels can lead to inadequate cooling, causing the system to run longer and work harder. Over time, this can increase wear and tear on the unit and even lead to system failure. It’s important to have a professional check refrigerant levels during routine maintenance and top off as necessary to keep your system running smoothly.
4. Inspect Ductwork for Leaks
Leaky ductwork can significantly affect the efficiency of your air conditioning system, as cool air escapes before it reaches its intended destination. For businesses and larger properties, this can result in uneven cooling, higher energy bills, and an overworked AC unit. Regularly inspecting ductwork for leaks or gaps and sealing them as needed will help ensure that your air conditioning system is delivering cooled air efficiently.
5. Schedule Professional Maintenance
In Saudi Arabia’s extreme climate, scheduling professional AC maintenance at least twice a year is highly recommended. Professional technicians have the knowledge and tools to thoroughly inspect your system, clean essential components, and identify potential problems before they escalate. Businesses, in particular, can benefit from having a comprehensive maintenance plan to avoid costly downtime due to AC failure.
Whether you own a small home or manage a large commercial facility, regular AC rental service and maintenance are crucial for ensuring the longevity and efficiency of your cooling systems.
6. Optimize Thermostat Settings
Maintaining an optimal temperature setting on your thermostat can greatly impact energy usage and overall system performance. In Saudi Arabia, where temperatures can reach extreme highs, setting your thermostat just a few degrees higher can significantly reduce the strain on your AC unit. Additionally, programmable thermostats allow you to set different temperatures based on your schedule, which can help save energy when cooling is not needed.
7. Keep the Area Around the Outdoor Unit Clear
The outdoor unit of your air conditioner needs adequate airflow to function properly. Debris such as leaves, dirt, and plants can obstruct the airflow, causing the unit to work harder and reducing its efficiency. Regularly check and clear any debris from around the outdoor unit, and make sure that there is at least two feet of clearance on all sides to promote optimal airflow.
8. Ensure Proper Ventilation
Ventilation plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of your AC system, particularly in business settings where large numbers of people and equipment generate heat. Poor ventilation can increase humidity levels, making it harder for your air conditioner to cool the space. Make sure that vents and return air registers are not blocked by furniture or other obstructions, and consider using ceiling fans to help distribute cool air more evenly throughout the space.
Conclusion
Maintaining your air conditioning system is essential in Saudi Arabia’s harsh climate, where efficient cooling is a necessity rather than a luxury. By following these AC maintenance tips, you can ensure that your system operates efficiently, keeps energy costs under control, and provides reliable cooling when you need it most.
Investing in regular AC maintenance service is key to extending the life of your system and avoiding the discomfort and expense of unexpected breakdowns. Whether for a home or business, proper maintenance is a proactive step toward achieving consistent and cost-effective cooling year-round.
