I was in library school in the earliest days of public access to the Internet. The technology lab was full of modems — a now-obsolete devise that was basically a highly specialized telephone that allowed one computer to talk to another — that were very noisy when in use. I'm not sure that I'd describe the noise as screaming, but a fellow student once said that when you walked past that room, it sounded like a hospital ward for the dying.

Which was true.

First thing, I should probably note is that this was from relatively early on in my testing with VoIP back in 2021. I didn’t use anything fancy apart from the VoIP box, some phone cables and good luck. Coupled with a really great guide of course.
