Deer Black Out is a(n obsessional re) mediation of violence and trauma through the trans/coalescence of identities surfacing and resurfacing within a manuscript of serialized poetry, influenced by HD, Zukofsky, and Ronald Johnson. It's sort of like a body, the movement of which you can only recognize emerging within a field of static. Just the outlines. A deer! In ramifying lines, this poetry creates a self-reciprocating dialogue with the very act of self-replication. The language exists as the prosthetic support that co-creates and conditions the Baerself's emergence into the real.

Mod opinion: I found this one through a goodreads friend and I'm so excited to read it at some point! It sounds incredible.

One day, Lars had a really scary nightmare. He went to James, and got some advice, before sharing the fear by screaming incomprehensibly at him. Dressed up in the cloth decorated with the coloring imitation of unripe olives, Lars Ulrich, trembling in fear as the thoughts of the nightmare slowly took most of him over, enters the residence of Makoto Yuuki.

The jocularly created imitation of the Metallica drummer briefly paused the terror-influenced line of thinking upon the entrance of the house. His claws reached for the grey-colored wooden gate of the Door's bungalow. Gate slowly maneuvered as the former tennis player pussyfooted into the residence. Then, the cognitions inspired by a mental vision inspired by the English-written textual fiction compositions and opus of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and, a likelihood of perchance, an anonymously écrit Stück von théâtre—the persona of the auteur is unknown—titled The King in Yellow returned upon the conscience functions of his brain.

Confronting the similarly created and alleged imitation of the Persona 3 (and its derivations) character, Lars greeted him, asked for advice, before screaming at him.

Makoto screamed at him back, too—so began a bit of a feedback loop.

Thankfully it didn't last long before two "AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"s, and soon Lars went back to the Metallican—their home.

No, I am not sorry for writing in the fanciest style I could muster. Come on, I'm sure that Mitsuru Kirijo managed to get away with sprinkling French and other foreign words in her manner of speech—how come I can't do the same thing that a fictional character could? I have read The King in Yellow—the short story collection specifically—and I'm sure that the style is way posher than that, being written in 1895 be damned.

Right, so, Lars is back home. That's decent. Sometime later, they were greeted by this guy:

Lars didn't have a great time with that guy, whoever he was—I had forgotten his name. I think he was James' co-worker...

Later that day, Lars brought Makoto out to the lounge for a talent show thing. He didn't give a reason why, aside from to embarrass themselves for giggles.

Not much to write about, honestly, aside from Makoto buying himself and Lars some Thai milk tea... and according to the mood bar, it's alcoholic. Alcoholic Thai milk tea. Huh. I didn't know that existed and saying that as some nerd living in That Place, that's... something. Interesting, I suppose.

Also, Makoto took a picture of some guy.

I think he sang a shoddy cover of "Baka Mitai" earlier.

...Is there a mod that allows Sims to sing that song in Simlish?

An unspecified amount of distance away, his sister (I am going with that for now) is living in a house near the coast—what was that world with the lighthouse called, I wonder?

So, yeah—Kotone and Fuuka are living together. They're roommates. Hmm, that reminds me of that one picture that I have lying on my computer... Ah, there it is.

the thing about Skyrim, for me at least, is that the PC is so devoided of characteristics in the attempt to make them everyman that every player can mold into whatever they want, that actually making my own Dragonborn seems pointless, none of the quests and their resolutions actually provides me anything about what kind of person my Dragonborn is, so despite having well over 100h before this current playthrough i never finished the main plotline or any other questline really, other than the Dark Brotherhood. there's a lot to do in this game but a lot of it is also kinda nothing, and role-playing anything seems to me senseless

well, up to now, kinda

so starting this playthrough i decided to not make a new PC and just play the game with my oc Namrevlis, i already know this character so i don't have a problem with playing with some blank-faced nothing i can't develop, and bc Witcherverse so kindly comes with multiverse build in, Skyrim version of Nam is not some AU, it's her after everything that happened to her in Witcher and Cyberpunk, she's at the endgame of her development as a character and the state of her abilities, Skyrim is her retirement so to speak, she has fun with this new land knowing that ultimately nothing she does there matters

the very first night Nam spent under Skyrim's two moons and the night sky, she had an absolutely terrible dream, and the very next day she learned she's now something called Dragonborn, and there was Destiny for her to fulfill, and well, Nam being Nam, just accepted it as the thing she apparently needs to do now, to kill Alduin

in Helgen there was a bit of confusion when they asked her the standard race/name questions, (bc i fucked up) bc she's Aen Elle, but doesn't actually look like Tamriel Mer, but she's also over 2 meters tall, and she still claims to be an elf, so they wrote down "Breton (giant)"

Nam had an intense eye-fucking/crime-witnessing moment with Ondolemar which i already described here but then their relationship developed further, Nam invited him to her house (from mods, it has a sauna and i think it's a sex thing, but idiot Ondolemar keeps sleeping on the floor and the only voice lines he has are his vanilla ones so he keeps asking if she saw any Talos worshiping, way to ruin the mood idiot😒), and then they kinda-but-not-really went together to the party in Thalmor embassy, and then was the peace treaty and like thanks gods Elenwen didn't mention Nam is as good as Thalmor asset, Ulrich would storm the fuck off, and even Tullius might be like hey wtf?!

(now, why would such a good Dragonborn be chummy with elven supremacists, and well, have you actually seen Wild Hunt recently? and Namrevlis is at her core a solder, a tool, she can get by on her own, totally, but if someone gives her a quest she will likely just do it just because it's something to do, it works well for video games ofc, but also i see Red Riders as child soldiers, in need of certain structure, even when they manage to escape, and Thalmor is paramilitary, its structure itself, Nam may not know their goals, or be actually in their ranks, but being just adjanced reminds her in some way of life back in Tir na Lia, both bad and good of it. it's messy, Nam is a messy character and i love her)

the first Daedric quest she did was Molag Bal's House of Horrors, and she take away from this situation was "I never fucked with Gaunter O'Dimm, but if these Daedric guys are all like this loser then I'm probably more than fine"

Nam did The Whispering Door quest after becoming the Listener and the whole time kept addressing Mephala as Mother, while Mephala was like "Um, no... Again, I'm just the Whispering Lady..."

speaking of Dark Brotherhood shenanigans: Nam did adopt Aventus Aretino (thanks mods!), because she has a soft spot for fucked up kids (say hi Alvin~); each time she stumbled upon Black Sacrament she would take Nightshade and heart as a way of acknowledging the ritual; she has a weird "not sexual, but still not-not sexual" kind of thing going on with "sweet, sweet Cicero" (one of my mods made him into a twink and y'know...)

FAVORITE TELEVISION SERIES

“Leave It to Beaver” (1957-1963) - This surprisingly witty comedy sitcom was about the adventures of an inquisitive and often naïve boy and his adventures at home, school, and around his suburban neighborhood.  Jerry Mathers, Tony Dow, Hugh Beaumont and Barbara Billingsley starred. 

“The Dick Van Dyke Show” (1961-1966) - Another witty sitcom that centered on the work and home life of a television comedy writer named Rob Petrie.  Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore starred.

“Hawaii Five-O” (1968-1980) - Jack Lord starred in this first-rate crime drama about a special police task force for the Hawaii State Police.

“The Mod Squad” (1968-1973) - This crime drama was about three young undercome police detectives for the Los Angeles Police Department.  Michael Cole, Clarence Williams III, Peggy Lipton and Tige Andrews starred.

   “Remington Steele” (1982-1987) - Stephanie Zimbalist and Pierce Brosnan starrred in this elegant mystery drama about a female private detective partnered with a former thief who assumes the role of a fictitious detective in her business.

“Eureka” (2006-2012) - This entertaining science-fiction series told the story of a U.S. Marshal, who becomes the sheriff of a small town in Oregon that serves as the home of scientific geniuses, who work for an advanced research facility called Global Dynamics.  Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield and Joe Morton starred.

  “Jericho” (2006-2008) - Skeet Ulrich and Lennie James starred in this excellent post-apocalyptic action drama about the residents of a fictional Kansas town in the aftermath of a nuclear attack on 23 major cities in the United States.

“Modern Family” (2009-2020) - Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd created this funny and award-winning family sitcom about the lives of three diverse family set-ups in suburban Los Angeles, linked by patriarch Jay Pritchett.

“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (2013-2020) - Clark Gregg starred in this sci-fi action series about a team of operatives for S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division), a peacekeeping and spy agency in a world of superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

“Black Sails” (2014-2017) - Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine created this superb adventure-historical series that served as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel “Treasure Island”.  Toby Stephens, Hannah New and Luke Arnold starred.

“The Flash” (2014-present) - Grant Gustin starred as D.C. Comics superhero the Flash aka Barry Allen in this comic-book hero action drama.

“Mercy Street” (2016-2017) - Lisa Q. Wolfinger created this excellent period medical drama about the Union hospital, Mansion House Hospital, in 1862 Alexandria, Virginia.  Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Josh Radnor and Hannah Green starred.

A Q+A with Paulina Ulrich

It’s time for the next in our new author features series! Today, Paulina Ulrich, author of Chosen and Flightless Bird is here to answer a few questions! Take it away Paulina

1. Tell me a little bit about your books!

Paulina: I currently have 2 different series out. The Flightless Bird series is a YA time travel romance set in the Pacific Northwest. It's about a girl named Livy who struggles through her parent's divorce and meets a brother and sister who share a world of secrets and adventure with her. The books are as ordered: Flightless Bird, Broken Wings, Fair Feathered, and Timeless Sky. I have another series that has been award nominated called the Fighting Fate series and this series has 2 books in it so far: CHOSEN and CHANCES. This series is a mature YA (swear word alert) series that is part urban fantasy/paranormal and is based on Nordic legends. The main character Kaddy (pronounced caddy, like a golf caddy) is the drummer in her band and she has dreams of getting out her small town with her friends until she uncovers her ancestry and suddenly, she has a lot bigger problems! It's hard to describe both series in a nutshell but I hope that did it.

2. What books/movies/TV shows would you compare your books to?

Paulina: Honestly, I'm not sure what books/movies/TV shows my books can be compared to! I don't watch much TV or many movies myself so this one is hard to answer. Comparing to other books, CHOSEN and CHANCES have angel-type creatures in them, so may be similar to angel type books?

3. What are some of your favorite authors/books?

Paulina: Another hard question! I enjoy so many different books but a few of my favorites are the Hunger Games trilogy, Rainbow Rowell, the Nancy Drew series (childhood favorite!), Harry Potter of course, and I'll occasionally read some nonfiction.

4. What are your inspirations?

Paulina: I find a lot of inspiration through music since I love listening to music and I play three instruments! Nature is also a huge source of inspiration. Going on walks or hiking and being in the forest really gets my creative juices flowing as I listen to the birds or a nearby stream. Fresh air is great for clearing my head to focus back on my writing.

5. What comes next for you, writing wise?

Paulina: What's next is finally wrapping up the last book in the Flightless Bird series, Timeless Sky and right after that my focus will be finishing CHOICES, book 3 in the Fighting Fate series!

6. Anything else you want to share?

Paulina: The last thing I'd share I thought would be a fun fact about me. I know I'm in the minority on this but, I don't actually like chocolate!
