ngl, I'm beginning to take issue with how in conversations about anti-intellectualism almost automatically, the face of girls and women will be slapped on the problem.

#'all those tiktok girls who only like marvel films and' - why do you always say girls and women? are the guys filling opera halls instead?#'women in their mid 20s who still only read YA novels' okay sure that's an example and relevant discussions can be had #but it reminds me of the mocking tone in which people speak of 'chick-lit' to use women's interest as an indicator of lower value #while in fact women are reading more than men in EVERY single genre of fiction. Women are doing a lot of (often unpaid) labour #supporting libaries supporting theatres supporting cultural events #meanwhile there is a pretty big overlap between toxic masculinity and anti-intellectualism #(especially misogyny and homophobia)#especially when it comes to things like ballet or opera or musical or generally dance #in fact it is often the female investment in specific things that makes them less 'valuable' in general consciousness #for thousands of years the theatre was well-respected and a high form of art - and now it's a 'wife-thing'#the father who will teach his son that theatre and dance are for girls - how is that never an example for anti-intellectualism

Instrumental for song 2 is finished, as are the lyrics (which will be below the cut)!

This introduces us to Martyn's character, as well as to the burdgeoning alliances currently forming (aside from Pearl and Scott, who will be focused on later; and from the Southlands, which have yet to form in the musical timeline).

(ft some anachromisms and contradictions to canon, since I know many of these alliances are formed later and don't interact with Martyn at this point, but I want to introduce them as soon as I can – there won't be time later)

Do note that the claps will be recorded in person, and that a sparser accompaniment generally means more vocal parts (which can't be heard here, since this is just the instrumental track).

he used to be so competitive *crying emoji* he used to banter he used to play along he used to want to win he used to push back *falls to my knees banging my fists on the ground*

would they try to play new games in lair games? make them somehow softer? make them less likely to scare him/cause him anxiety? is there any game out there that would let him forget? that would get him so immersed that the worries fall off, that the fears are put on hold at least for a little while? NOT JUST WITH THE LAIR GAMES BUT IS THERE ANYTHING OUT THERE THAT WOULD DISTRACT HIM FROM WHAT HAPPENED? Get this: Poseidon & Hermes not-quiet-friendship-but-something-close-to that comes from being the only gods to really understand (and speak in hermes' case) modern day slang.

Hermes annoys/confuses everyone with it and gets shocked when Poseidon answers with something fitting. From then on they start bonding more over this, Poseidon also starting to annoy his brother's (Zeus mostly) with it.
