Desmortis Aeronaught (Infection AU)

Desmortis Aeronaught is a disease that was unintentionally created during the whole Vampire Fruit Bat scandal. When the spell used on the bats had been reverted back onto them, a peculiar phenomenon began to pop up in a couple of them. They became abnormally aggressive to their own species and, despite being known for loving fruit, started to attack and drain other Vampire Fruit Bats as well, before moving onto ponies.

The bats weren't the initial cause of the virus being spread however, even if they were linked due to the amount of trees they helped grow. The Apple Family had unknowingly allowed this virus to spread around by selling infested apples to the town. On the surface they looked fine, and even tasted fine as well, but the effects after ingesting one was far from ideal. Some didn't even make it past the second stage.

Now, there are some ponies who are immune. Luna and Applejack are the only two I have decided will not be able to get infected by this virus. Fluttershy, on the other hand, is a unique case. She can get bitten and have the symptoms, even have some alterations, but she will not lose her sense of self. Flutters is partially immune.

Now, there are also mutated variants in this universe. These variants are more likely to pop up in Alicorns and Pegasi, though no Alicorn has been documented to be infected as of now. In this state, these ponies are far quicker than they would originally be and will often echo words or phrases they have heard to try and lure ponies in. This is their only method of communication, and it's a trap.
