Queer Characters of Marvel Reading Guide #5: Akihiro | Dark Wolverine | Daken
OK. For my more sensitive folks, let me start this one out with a CONTENT WARNING. Daken is not for the faint of heart. A lot of his relationships, including the queer ones, could be interpreted as toxic. So if you're not into heavy stories full of violence, child abuse, hurt/comfort, and maladaptive coping mechanisms, skip this one. There is also implied sexual abuse of a child. So, please take care of yourselves around your content no-nos.
THAT SAID. I absolutely LOVED every SECOND of Daken's guide. From start to finish it took me 2 weeks to read about 300 comics for him and holy shit he is worth it.
Daken or Akihiro, both names he's called interchangeably at this point, is the biological son of Logan (Wolverine) and Itsu. His mother was murdered by the Winter Soldier (while he was under mind control) and he was then taken out of his mother by Romulus, the "father figure" (gross gross gross) Daken would have for the next several decades of his life.
Of all the guides I've done. I think Daken is BY far my favourite. I immediately loved him. From the second he steps on the page until the very last comic I've read for him. He is everything to me. (With the exception of Leah Williams's run in X-Factor, but whatever, i still love him).
Okay, I'm gonna stop singing my meow meow's (who has committed multiple atrocities) praises and get into What Y'all Should Read (so you can love him as much as I do).
At A Glance:
Notable Series (For Queer Content):
Wolverine Origins (2006) #5-15
Dark Wolverine (2009) #75-77
Wolverine Origins (2006) #30-36, #47-48
Dark Wolverine (2009} #86-90
Daken: Dark Wolverine (2010) #1-7
X-23 (2010) #8
Daken: Dark Wolverine (2010) #8
X-23 (2010) #9
Daken: Dark Wolverine (2010) #9-20
Iceman (2017) #4, #8-10
Marvel's Voices: Pride (2021) #1: "Man Of His Dreams"
X-Factor (2020) #1-10*
Marauders Annual (2022) #1
Marauders (2022) #1-5
Notable Series (For Sibling Bonding):
Daken: Dark Wolverine (2010) #1-7
X-23 (2010) #8
Daken: Dark Wolverine (2010) #8
X-23 (2010) #9
All-New Wolverine (2015) 25-30
Hunt for Wolverine: Claws of a Killer (2018) #1-4
*X-Factor (2020) features a VERY OOC version of Daken written by Leah Williams. I only included it on this list because it has its moments and it contains context for the MUCH better Marauders (2022). Future talls: Marauders sucks now too, but they had a pretty decent first 5. I just wish people would stop making Daken a himbo when he's not a himbo.

I read so many great books in December! It was a perfect ending for my reading year. 2021 was so good regarding reading, and I think I learned a lot about my own reading taste. Wishing everyone a fantastic reading year!
Talking about all the books I read in December under the cut.
In reading order:
We Are Okay by Nina LaCour (x) (x)
I didn’t know We are okay is set during Christmas time, but it was a nice coincidence to read it during the beginning of December. It’s a very emotional read, with shocking reveals about the past and complicated and interesting relationships. I think it’s such a well-written story about grief, but also full of found family!
Read if you want: stories about grief, difficult family relationships, family secrets, sad Christmas vibes (?)
The City Beautiful by Aden Polydoros
FANGS 01 by Billy Balibally
It was way more creative than I thought, and I loved the dynamic between the main characters! It was a fun and sweet read.
Read if you want: funny vampire stories, sweet bl mangas.
A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske
I didn't know much about this book when I picked it up, but wow. I was amazed by the development of the main character's relationship. It's gradual and sweet and so wholesome! I think I still enjoy more the first half than the second, but it is still a fantastic book!
Read if you want: historical fantasy, mlm adult historical romance.
Tash Hearts Tolstoy by Kathryn Ormsbee (x) (x)
Tash Hearts Tolstoy was a lighthearted and fun read! I loved the parts about internet fame and its dark side. But I also enjoyed a lot the ace rep! I relate to Tash in all her journey of self-discovery, her self-doubt, her trouble to talk about her sexuality, and even some of the terrible things she heard when she came out. It also discusses other serious topics such as cancer and family issues, but overall, it was more fun than I expected!
Read if you want: friendship stories, internet drama, friendship to lovers.
Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki
You know, maybe light sci-fi is my thing. This is another book that I went almost blind with zero expectations, and it blew my mind! If someone told me the story, I don't think it would work out, but it weirdly does! The characters are so vivid, and the relationships are so interesting! I love both the fantasy and sci-fi aspects, but the characters are the ones to shine!
Read if you want: light sci-fi, light fantasy, cursed musical instruments.
Maurice by E.M. Forster (x) (x)
I'm glad Maurice has a happy ending because I was expecting something like Giovanni's Room. Unlike the latter, I liked Maurice a bit more, but I can't say I loved this book. I enjoyed the character and relationships developments and Maurice's inner conflicts. However, the reading was rather unremarkable? It wasn't the year of classics for me!!
She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan
It is a beautiful book! But I have to confess that I'm not the target audience. I think people who enjoy war stories and alternate history will enjoy all the aspects of this book. For me, I enjoyed the first half and Zhu Chongba the most. I liked the characters' inner thoughts about gender and sexuality. However, I got lost in many political parts, and I wanted that all the book was in Zhu Chongba's point of view. Despite some of my complaints, it is still a great book!
Read if you want: alternate history, war stories, complex characters.
Unfit to Print by K. J. Charles
I think this is my first book by KJ Charles, and it was a pleasant surprise! I liked how p*rn*graphy was deal. And the second chance romance was sooooo good! Loved the characters! The mystery is also super engaging!
Read if you want: mlm adult historical romance, second chances, historical mysteries.
The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite
The main characters were so forward about what they desired and wanted that made the dynamic between them really unique. They were also so passionate about each other! I also loved the plot dealing with women in natural sciences!
Read if you want: wlw adult historical romance, women in STEM, lightheaded stories with almost no drama.
All Systems Red by Martha Wells
I read many things about this book, and people usually say that Murderbot is funny. The story didn't make me laugh, but Murderbot is very cute. And Murderbot's personality and relationship with the humans is rather wholesome.
Read if you want: character driven stories, funny narration with an interesting and quick sci-fi plot.
Yesterday Is History by Kosoko Jackson
It deals with some heavy topics, but it's a quick and fun read. I liked the time travel aspect, but I didn't like the romance as much. It was a bit rushed, and I couldn't believe the passionate declarations of love. And there's something about the ending that seems off to me...
Read if you want: time-travel stories, mlm ya romance.
Rereads:
Heartstopper, Volume One and Heartstopper, Volume Two by Alice Oseman
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë (x) (x)
Disponível em PT:
Outsider Communication by Natsume Tsuno (x)
101 Poetas Paranaenses Vol. 1 org Ademir Demarchi
O Natal dos Fantasmas (x) (x) (x)

!! PINNED POST !!
Hey there! If you're reading this, thank you! Here's basically what I do with this blog:
I write one-shots, drabbles, and pretty much anything along those lines. Most of my content will be queer and shipping centered. I mostly wanna be a good source for MLM/NBLM fanfiction. Let's face it, there's not a lot of fan content for masc and nb fans, and a lot of what exists isn't even written by masc or nb individuals. Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna AVOID writing wlw/nblw, nblnb, or het content, I'm totally down for that, but I want most of my content to be for MLM and NBLM.
I'm in A LOT of fandoms, such as Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Dark Crystal, Overwatch, and MANY more (some listed in the tags, i fit what i could). Like I said, I'll be writing a lot of shipping (especially queer ships) content, as I'm a multi-shipper, but will also write a few drabbles centered around various characters (mostly comfort characters), whether they be angsty or comfort or whatever. I'll also share various headcanons and theories and such.
You're probably wondering if I take requests. The answer is YES. I do. Sometimes. I'll always be sure to leave in my bio when I am or am not taking requests, but I'll be keeping my ask box and DMs open a majority of the time. Sometimes my ask box will be open, but I won't be doing requests, if that makes sense.
Some things I'll be writing and accepting requests for are:
• ships (obviously)
• xreaders
• hurt/comfort
• angst
• AUs
• smut (though i'm not too sure about writing wlw smut, as i'm not wlw)
• fluff
Some things I will NOT write are:
• pedophilia
• incest
• DDLG, DDLB, MDLG, MDLB (daddy dom/little girl/boy, mommy dom/little girl/boy)
• omegaverse
• cis mpreg (as in cis men getting pregnant. pregnant trans men is ok though, but not if its fetish-y)
• rape/sexual assault (though I'm not against making comfort content for victims, as I'm a victim myself)
• certain kinks/fetishes that personally make me uncomfortable, such as daddy/mommy or breeding/pregnancy and a few others
• lewding minors
BEFORE YOU FOLLOW:
I sometimes need/use tone indicators, as I have ADHD and struggle with tones/social cues, also tone is just hard to interpret over text anyway. In case you're confused, here's a Tone Indicator Guide that I often look to.
I'm definitely gonna project a lot lol
DO NOT INTERACT:
if you're a fujoshi or anything along those lines. my sexuality is not to be fetishized, and unfortunately, there are a lot of women/fem presenting/aligned people who fetishize MLM relationships. i'm not saying you can't read BL or my MLM content or interact if you're a woman/fem presenting, youre very free to do so, BUT if you ACTIVELY look for MLM smut or "yaoi" because you think it's hot or scandalous, stay 60 feet away from me. block me, even. that is no different from a man jacking off to wlw porn.
if you're a pro-shipper. pro-shippers tend to make excuses to ship disgusting ships that are literally pedophilia and/or incest, and often sexualize/lewd minors. that's disgusting and i want none of that near me or my content.
if you're racist, queerphobic, anti-semitic, ableist, etc.

I saw that you like Red, White & Royal Blue and Gentleman's Guide To Vice and Virtue. Do you know any other books like that?
Oh wow, Anon. You sent me this forever ago. But I’m perennially bad at answering asks, so here’s a very late response! Hope you found some good books though!
NOTE: Both those books are excellent, and also, quite singular. It’s very hard to rec anything that comes close to the same “feel” of either. (I’m guessing you want something of the MLM variety.) But here’s my best attempt nonetheless. (I would like to add that I haven’t really read much in a while, beyond the few comics I’ve been keeping up with.) Also, important to note is the fact that RWRB is not YA, and rather a new adult romance. Since a majority of what I usually read is YA, a lot of this list will scratch that itch, apologies in advance!
BONUS: Simon Vs. The Homo Sapien Agenda by Becky Albertalli: This is the book that the movie Love, Simon is based on. It’s extremely popular and you’ve probably already read it, but it doesn’t hurt to recommend it! It’s a sweet romance and an easy read. The movie is pretty great too.
6. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell: A Harry Potter-esque “chosen one” falls for his main nemesis and mortal enemy, and man is it a fun read. It’s based on a book referenced in Rowell’s earlier book Fangirl, and is basically her love letter to her love of Harry Potter, which makes sense because the book reads like a Harry x Draco enemies to friends to lovers-type fic, and I mean that in the best way possible. (Sometimes I wish published fiction hit like certain fics, and boy does this done.) The sequel (Wayward Son) is actually out soon. So this would be a perfect time to read it.
5. The Music of What Happens by Bill Konnigsberg: Full disclosure: I started this novel earlier this year, and have yet to finish it. But I love everything Konnigsberg writes, and this is possibly my favourite. It’s set in the 1980′s and tells the story of Jordan and Max as they spend the summer working in a food truck. It’s a case of “opposites attract” and everything I’ve read has been pretty solid. I cannot wait to eventually finish it.
4. The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller: The myth of Achilles but told from his boyfriend/soulmate’s (Patroclus) POV all the way till the bitter end. It’s gorgeous from the get-go. Miller’s way with words is exquisite, and her descriptions of gay yearning is *chef finger kiss*. The whole novel feels like a feat of storytelling on its own. And that’s probably because it is one. (Also, one of my weird opinions about this book is that sometimes it feels like what Percy would think if this were an AU of GGtVaV.)
3. Iceman Vol. 1 by Sina Grace and Alessandro Vitti: One of the few Marvel comics I’ve read in recent years. It’s basically Iceman navigating the world as a recently out young mutant, and it focuses on his attempts to date and also balance his identities. It’s a shame it got cancelled too damn early, but what we got was pretty great.
2. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz: I know everyone and their mother recommends this book for any and every reason possible, but my god are we all right to do so. Benjamin Alire Saenz is one of my favourite authors of all time, and his way with words moves me beyond all measure. Ari and Dante’s romance is an eventual tale of friends to lovers, though, on many levels, they’ve been in love with each other forever. Saenz’s writing is lush and lyrical and captures every emotion possible. His second novel is also great. But this one is sheer magic.
1. Fence by C.S. Pacat and Johanna the Mad: One of BOOM! Studios best series is set at a fencing-obsessed boarding school and tells the extremely slow-burn story of two roommates and rivals (Nicholas and Seiji), as they try and win one of two available spots on the school fencing team. The world is well built and the supporting cast is awesome. The art is so much fun to look at. Side note: It doesn’t follow Nick and Seiji as closely as those two books, but the book is still plenty queer, and there is another guy pining for his best friend, who remind me of Monty and Percy. (Nick and Seiji are very early Alex and Henry.)

A little bit of an introduction post!
-Call me Basil, it’s an alias for this blog
-I’m MLM and my pronouns are he/him
-I’m 18
-I’ve been watching DC and Marvel movies my whole life, but I’m not familiar with the comics (I’m hoping to get into comics though, so send recommendations my way!)
-I love drawing and I write every once in a while
-I love playing video games, my favorites are the Pokémon games and rdr2
-Tone indicators are appreciated
-Feel free to send me asks or dm me!
Now onto a sort of DNI
Standard DNI like TERFS, transphobes, homophobes, racists, antisemites, radfems etc
Read/Identity with the terms Yaoi/BL or Fujoshi
I’d highly prefer straight women not interact with this blog but I can’t stop you if you do
Keep horniness out of the replies and reblogs of my posts
Once again if your account is nsfw or 18+, do not interact with me
If I fall under your dni- self explanatory
This is subject to change, I’ll try to make separate posts when I do update it. Also, I might make some kind of tagging system. If I do, the guide will be put at the end of this post
Update: no longer 17. All boundaries are still the same. Also added radfems to the dni because they’ve proven to be just as rancid as others on the list.

Steps for Your First Week in Your Home Business - The 7 Wonders of MLM
I was just speaking with a couple of my coworkers, answering their questions about the first steps in their home-based enterprises. As soon as we got off the phone, I performed some quick research and discovered that there isn't as much information for those of us who are new to Network Marketing as you might think. Many of the gurus frequently guide and direct us toward making our first million—and beyond. That's fantastic. But, when I initially started, I was anxious and worried, wanting to make my first $100 or $500 in our wonderful profession.
The second point of view is that most of the powerful organisations in the MLM market provide excellent training for their new reps, which is correct. But, every now and then, it's wonderful to hear the news from beyond your company's walls, so let's get started.
So you're a brand-new representative. If you started your home business today or yesterday, or even a week or a month ago, you must believe that today is the first day of your venture. Now, here are the 7 MLM Wonders. In the sense that there is nothing to substitute for action, I use the word "wonders" cynically. But that is precisely the goal. When we first start, many of us experience the "Now What?" syndrome. We prepare by talking to our upline, listening to calls, and getting hyped up. But we're not sure what we're supposed to do at the back of our minds or deep in our hearts. So we figure that if we behave enthusiastically and inform a few people we know, the business will come together. There is some bad news. That isn't going to work. There is good news. This is a doable task. These are the seven wonders:
1) Outline your WHY. It is an abbreviation for What Has You. Spend 10 minutes in complete stillness, with no distractions, reflecting on why you are devoted to working for yourself from home, despite ups and downs, criticism and discouragement.
2) Finish your company training. Do the training programme regardless of how much you know about your product or service. Do it if it means listening to 10-hour-long conference calls. If it requires a 10-foot binder full of product information that you're meant to read, do so. The point is that we must be coachable in order to be successful in this sector, so take the necessary training steps to learn everything you can about your product and service.
3) Select, write, or copy a script. That's correct. When we speak with prospects, we must follow a script. Half the reason rookie reps avoid talking to individuals is that they don't know what to say. Half of the reason individuals don't join our company is because they believe they can't possible know all the person on the other end of the phone is telling them—unaware that the person presenting to them is following a script. Make use of one. If you're a natural presenter, that's fantastic, but chances are your team members aren't.
4) Establish a target date for your first income level or pin level.
5) Create a timetable. Do not scoff. You must commit to getting to work at the same hour every day. Make a commitment to yourself to show up every day, whether it's for 6 hours or 90 minutes. Consistency in prospecting and marketing will follow your flawless scheduling practises if you are consistent with your timetable. When I first started my business, I committed to working from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. every day, Monday through Friday. Because I had a steep learning curve, these hours did not make me a millionaire. They did, however, keep me interested in the game and earning a few dollars here and there.
6) Prepare your table. That's right. Your company is a table, and the legs are the marketing tactics you choose and implement throughout time to advertise your products, services, and opportunities. For example, you could choose to place a tiny newspaper ad, distribute flyers, create a social media campaign, and participate in a lead coop as your four marketing techniques. Another representative could choose from the following options: posting free classifieds, holding small house meetings, starting and maintaining a blog, and acquiring leads. The point is that everything works—but only if you do it consistently and on a regular basis.
7) Begin a personal growth plan. As the great Jim Rohn once stated, "to create more, you must become more," therefore devote 10 to 30 minutes per day to personal growth. I propose starting with something basic, such as reading 20 minutes of Napoleon Hill each day or listening to 30 minutes of Dani Johnson CDs in the drive each day—or something similar. I conduct the most of my personal development work while travelling and waiting for my son to finish his numerous activities.
So we can see that the miracles aren't so marvellous after all—but they do work if you put your mind to it. And, perhaps, within the next week or two, you'll be directing your first of many new reps to this page. So let's get this party started.....

Voltron mlm month, day 13.
September 13th- stars
Title: Don’t Let Me Drown
Summary: Once they return to Earth, Hunk, Lance, and Keith stargaze on the hill Lance used to take his sister to.
Pairing: klunk
Warnings: Mentioned minor char death
This is a small bit from my fic, read the rest on ao3. This snippet contains spoilers for the fic, so I guess I should’ve thought ahead.
The three lay down in the grass on the hill. Keith feels like he’s committing a crime being up here, a place that belonged to Adri and Lance only.
“And that’s Cygnus,” Lance says, pointing out the swan. Hunk and Keith nod. They know these constellations, studied them as children, but they dare not tell Lance to stop. “The star on it’s tail, Deneb, is a blue supergiant. And that’s Aquila, the eagle.”
“Are the swan and eagle friends?”
“Yeah, they are.”
A warm summer wind ruffles his hair. He wiggles his feet in the cool dirt. He remembers the feel of Adri’s small hand in his as he’d guide her hand, tracing the constellations. Tears begin to fall, but he pushes through.
“I want to go out there.”
“Me too.”
“And that,” he says, pointing, “is Cassiopeia, the Queen. Her closest star is only 19.4 light years away. It was Adri’s favorite…” He trails off, thoughts running wild in his head.
“She must be beautiful!” Adri marvels. “And huge!”
“Yeah,” Lance says. “And one day, we’ll get out there.”
“Together?”
“Together.”
Keith falls asleep listening to Lance ramble about the stars. Hunk stays up with him all night, slipping his hand into Lance’s and giving it a small squeeze, encouraging him to keep talking. Lance squeezes back.
He keeps thinking of his little sister, left alone after he went to the Garrison. It was his fault she was gone. He should have stayed. Instead, he went all the way across the universe and left her alone. Being home without her didn’t feel real.
The one thing he had feared the most. The one thing he hated is what he had lost her to. All the more reason to hate the water. Maybe he’ll never get over this fear, and that’s okay. He had Hunk and Keith there for him, and he had his family again. What more could he ask for.
He takes a calming breath. Hunk and Keith keep him afloat, keep his head above the water. They’re not going to let him drown.
“And that’s Cepheus, her king…”

Queer Character of Marvel Reading Guide #2: Anole | Victor Borkowski
Hello all you cool cats and kittens, I'm back with another installment of this guide that has taken over my life!
Anole was a tough one to do because he's not really a main character so much as he's just CONSTANTLY and FOREVER in the background. He keeps getting forgotten about and rewritten and all of his major arcs just get deleted. Though he is going through a decent arc on Krakoa right now, I suppose. We'll see if that one gets rewritten as well.
Victor Borkowski A.K.A Anole is a young mutant who starts at Xavier's school in New Mutants/New X-Men. He doesn't really do much until far far later in the series when Northstar is killed (COUGH Bury Your Gays COUGH). His primary mutation is that he looks like a lizard man, but he also has dope healing powers and a prehensile tongue. He can also camouflage which comes in handy (and is, you guessed it, almost never utilised).
