It's really, really worth noting that Marinette thought she was alone, talking to an inanimate object, specifically because Adrien had decided to deliberately pretend to be an inanimate object. Acting cringe at inanimate objects (which Marinette sincerely thought she was doing) isn't a crime. And, like, yeah, she shouldn't be touching and potentially damaging the wax statues, but that'd be like... mild vandalism, not an inappropriate interpersonal interaction. (Also, apparently Adrien's statue has repeatedly gotten actual pieces cut from it by over-invested fans. Which is, of course, also unadvisable, but. Yeah.)

It is also really worth noting that people routinely objectify Adrien much like this when he's just existing in public and not willingly pretending to be an inanimate object. Marinette at least stopped doing it and was mortified as soon as it became clear that it was the real Adrien, not a statue.

It's cringe comedy, which is definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but they both had fairly innocent intentions, their cringe ideas just just combined in a... memorable way. They apologised not because they were actually trying to do anything horrible to each other, but because the situation just kinda turned out deeply embarassing, for reasons neither of them foresaw.

I need to talk about the statue scene in Puppeteer 2. It reeks of rated-G SA and Adrien went into fawning trauma mode when Marinette got upset. Like bro, she felt you up, pulled your hair, and kissed you without your consent. And Adrien is the one who apologizes for it. And that’s when Astruc decided Adrien should fall in love with Marinette. Unbelievable.

To be fair, that's typical for the humor of this show. It's not supposed to be taken seriously. That's why I don't really consider Marinette being a stalker or anything like that an actual criticism of her character. It's just part of the exaggerated humor of the show and it's not supposed to be literal. That scene really isn't meant to be serious. Marinette really thought he was a statue, and Adrien realized the joke backfired and apologized because the situation was awkward. It wasn't really a big deal. It was played for laughs more than anything. It's completely understandable to find it distasteful, but it's not meant to be serious and doesn't really reflect on the characters imho.

That being said, your point does work when we talk about the episode overall. The episode started with Adrien calling his friends over because he was lonely, but it ended up focusing on Marinette anyway. I didn't really like that, because it's just another instance of the narrative not being able to not make it about Marinette again. And yeah, it's so strange how they made that the scene where Adrien fell in love with Marinette, and not, I don't know, the umbrella scene 2.0. It's one of the retcons that is clearly made to justify all the criticisms fans have of the show. Marinette is a stalker? It's because of trauma! The statue scene was weird? Sike, that's when Adrien actually fell in love with Marinette! Even though the episode where it happened showed them both being super weirded out and ended with Adrien talking about his love for another girl with no hint whatsoever that he began to view Marinette in a different light since then. But yeah, that's when he started to like her. Suuuuure.

I never come on here, but I wanted to discuss something since I've seen a couple of salt posts discussing Adrien's "sudden" shift of feelings towards Marinette in season 5, and I don't think some of you are understanding the whole lovesquare arc. Adrien has ALWAYS loved Marinette, ever since the umbrella scene. His feelings gradually grew more and more, but since he had already taken interest in Ladybug, he suppressed those feelings. This was the whole point of the "just a friend" phase. It was DENIAL, not genuine disinterest. If you go back and rewatch the show from the beginning, you'd notice that Adrien unconsciously behaves in a way that makes his crush on Marinette obvious. Ex:

Feeling uncomfortable kissing Chloé in season 1, but feeling perfectly comfortable with Marinette.

The constant heart eyes we got throughout the show.

He carries her lucky charm with him all the time, and he even made a gift especially for her

He called her his "everyday Ladybug", which we all know how much that means coming from him.

Effortlessly dancing romantically with her, TWICE.

Etc, etc. Keeping all that in mind, what happened in Puppeteer 2 isn't when he started DEVELOPING feelings, it's when he started REALIZING those feelings. He said it himself, the way he reacted to her going ahead and kissing him shocked him. Not to mention that in Chat Blanc, he straight up told her in his confession that he had always felt this way, he just didn't understand what he felt.

All their interactions thus far had Marinette somehow friendzone their encounters, so Adrien never had the chance to think about his own feelings, except in Weredad, but he was too preoccupied with his intense feelings for Ladybug to notice. And it's because of that, that after Marinette kissed him, he started noticing the similarities between her and Ladybug, causing his feelings to grow even further.

"You remind me of the girl I love."

Then, he started paying more attention to her, and noticed how she always cheers him up and makes him laugh, and is always there for him when he needs her.

Finally, we reach the season 4 finale, and he realizes that Marinette truly understands him for who he is, not the image he kept up, and it's THEN that he fully realizes there is something there, but he is too confused to know for sure, which is directly supported by his confession in Chat Blanc.

That is when Determination comes into play, and Adrien finally realizes what the butterflies in his stomach meant this entire time. This is also why that every time he discovers Marinette is Ladybug, he is instantly relieved and overwhelmed with joy, because that makes the two people he loves the most one person, and there is no more dilemma in his heart.

So this is it, a summary of Adrien's development of his feelings towards Marinette, which also explains why it's so sincere from his end. It's not sudden for sure. You guys have previously seen me make a post on the love square screen time records based on the data I collected on how much screen time each love square ship has in each episode and special and in each season exactly and now we're going to be putting that data to more practical use and using it to figure out what are the best seasons, episodes and specials for shippers of certain sides of the love square to watch when binging through Miraculous.

Adrienette

You don't need to know the exact screen time for Adrienette in every season to know that season 5 is the best season for Adrienette shippers to watch. Not only is it the season with the most Adrienette screen time, but it's also the season where Adrienette finally becomes canon which is yet another plus.

For episodes that feature particularly large amounts of Adrienette screen time you can look to "Gamer" (6 min 28 sec) in season 1; "Riposte" (4 min 14 sec), "Gorizilla" (4 min 11 sec) and "Frozer" (4 min 10 sec) in season 2; "Oblivio" (9 min 3 sec) and "The Puppeteer 2" (4 min 27 sec) in season 3; "Mr. Pigeon 72" (2 min 23 sec), "Psycomedian" (2 min 19 sec) and "Simpleman" (2 min 8 sec) in season 4; and "Determination" (4 min 46 sec), "Transmission" (4 min 49 sec) and "Protection" (4 min 19 sec) in season 5.

In terms of Miraculous World specials, you're best bet is the New York Special which has 7 min 40 sec of screen time which has the whole storyline of Marinette trying remain friends with Adrien.

Really you can pick any season since Ladynoir dominates all of them but the best season for Ladynoir shippers would be season 1 which not only has the most Ladynoir out of all the seasons but also has that classic Ladynoir dynamic I've seen certain Ladynoir fans crave in the later seasons: fighting villains and just being a dynamic duo in general, Cat Noir making the puns and Ladybug getting annoyed with him, those kind of stuff.

For Maricat, the season of you're choice would be season 4, even though most of the screen time there is concentrated in "Glaciator 2". This season even has the episode with the most Maricat screen time in all of the show so far, that is, "Glaciator 2".

Episodes with particularly high amounts of Maricat screen time include "Evillustrator" (2 min 17 sec) and "Gamer" (54 sec) in season 1, "Glaciator" (3 min 29 sec) and "Befana" (36 sec) in season 2, "Weredad" (3 min 57 sec) and "Kwamibuster" (44 sec) in season 3, "Sentibubbler" (1 min 24 sec) and "Glaciator 2" (8 min 14 sec) in season 4, and "Elation" (5 min 37 sec) and "Protection" (48 sec) in season 5.

Ladrien

For Ladrien shippers, the best seasons for you guys to watch are seasons 2 and 3, moreso season 2, where Ladrien was at the peak of its screen time until it dwindled into nothingness in seasons 4 and 5.

Or hell, wasn't there a comic on Tumblr with the twist that Gabriel was the senti? He's purely fueled by emotion, a recluse because he's worried about his amok being damaged or lost, and his focus is on Emilie most of the time because his prime emotion was her want of a companion. Actually kinda makes him similar to Pearl from SU, if she became a villain. If they had the chance to bring back their everything, then they would do anything.

He quite literally needs to refocus. I could actually see him leaving his amok with her body and him physically not being able to refocus his attention on Adrien. Oh no I'm getting attached to this idea no I already have like 3 other things I need to write.

Oh yeah no like I remember the one! I forget if the real Gabe was dead and Emilie replaced him with a Senti or if he never existed and the Senti was just her perfect idea of a husband.

But either way! Gabriel himself being a Sentimonster who was slowly losing his mind via his programed-in obsession with Emilie and the constant failure to help her would've been so fascinating!

Side tangent because you mentioned Steven Universe:

I think one of the ways that ML fails is how/when they introduce the Sentimonsters leading up to the twist and I can compare that with SU and the Rose Quartz is Pink Diamond twist:

A lot of the clues to this twist exist very early on. From showing the Gems and their shapeshifting abilities, to mentions of how wildly powerful Rose was and her natural leadership skill, to smaller background hints like the Diamond Insignia(on ancient ruins it had four Diamonds, on newer tech it had three), vague things that Pearl said(or didn't say).

All these things were during Season 1, and the speculation on Pink Diamond existing and Rose being her in some way were already being brought up. This would be further strengthened by seeing more of the Diamonds, learning more about Rose and Pink, and other things until we eventually got the proper reveal of what truly happened.

Compare this to Miraculous and the Sentimonster plot:

The fact that the Peacock creates Sentimonsters and has something to do with Emilie's state is revealed in the last episode of Season 2.

Throughout Season 3, Sentimonsters are just creatures until the very end. Sentibug is the first Sentimonster that we get who looks and acts like a Person. But even then, most of her screentime is spent being controlled by Mayura and she's snapped away before having any true thought of her own besides what the last person holding her Amok told her to do.

Even through Season 4, though we get more Sentis that look and act Human, the whole time they're being puppeted by Gabriel and never left to their own devices to have an experience truly their own.

And even when they get blatant about it, whether it be Gabe using Adrien's Amok or Felix making his speeches, they never outright say it?

But you see the difference? Speculation didn't crop up until Season 3, and even then it was less genuine and more 'lmao but what if?'

Alternate Season 3 ML Ending

I have been musing on an alt Season 3 finale that could catch the same general vibes while also perhaps serving as a culmination of Chloe's redemption arc efforts, Lila's whole 'thing' and while still shaking up the status quo as canons kind of did, here's what I have:

Post Ikari Gozen, there's a minor subplot in Party Crasher of Chloe trying to get in contact with Kagami who assumes its to shout at her about hero stuff. She's half right as at the end of the episode Chloe uses Adrien's mobile to lure Kagami in & says they need to talk, hero to hero.

Post Party Crasher, through The Puppeteer 2, a spin on Cat Blanc (Maybe) and Félix there's little scenes of them meeting to discuss their findings. These relate to feeling like Akuma are around them at night, finding Lila suspicious as fuck cos either Ladybug's bestie is too loose with details or Lila knows way too much and is trying to make Akuma happen.

They agree to keep watch over Marinette. Barring Chloe & Kagami, she seems to be her main target.

The next three episodes all fit together, with Heart Hunter first.

Heart Hunter changes:

Lila cuts the Bee Signal before the Akuma arrives, negs Chloe & then stalks Marinette, Adrien & Kagami.

When Kagami speaks to Ladybug she figures out its Marinette & while hurt at the sabotage date she still shares what she & Chloe think & they both realize today is an ambush.

Not having seen Ryuko, Chloe's not totally given into despair & upon claiming Pollen tries to fight Hawk Moth. She but gets injured reclaiming the Miracle Box & has to be saved by Kagami.

Hawk Moth & Mayura retreat with the tablet and Fu gives up being Guardian due to the strain of the battle nearly killing him.

Chloe's hospitalized as she tried to use Venom more than once. Ryuko is still upset with Marinette, Chat's upset about Chloe, Marinette is upset about Fu & feels incredibly alone.

A terrified Lila assures Hawk Moth she knows 'another' Miraculous Wielder and this one will break, Marinette.

Ladybug

Marinette tries to adjust to having all the Kwami with her & with translating the book.

Chat & other heroes are cycling in and out of Chloe's hospital room where she remains unconscious.

Despite going through a day from hell, Marinette still has to go to school the next day cos she can't even tell her parents what's wrong.

At school only Alya is present (She did her shift) Adrien's visiting Chloe as a civilian and Nino is (Sick) guarding Chloe.

Then everything goes to hell when Lila presents a video of Marinette stealing from her locker. They are sent to the principle.

Alya realizes something is sus.

Marinette 'can' get super jealous and see the worst in people but she isn't a thief. So Alya follows them.

She arrives in time to see Lila reveal an Akumatized appendage that jabs a needle into Marinette & sends her into a nightmare (Basically the rest of the canon episode) then tries to steal her ear rings.

Lila only gets one before Alya tackles the fuck out of her and then Lila starts vomiting up an Akuma that infests Marinette's remain ear ring much to her despair.

"I needed that!"

Cue half transformed, fully Akumatized Ladybug, partialy trapped in a nightmare despair mode going on a rampage.

The Battle of the Miraculous:

Lila flees, carrying Alya & a fading Tikki who explains Lila's being turned into an Akuma, & that they need to call in 'everyone', revealing IDs.

Hawk Moth sends Mayura and a fake Sentimonster Ladybug to get the Miraculous (Having realized Lila was covering for having figured out Ladybug's identity to steal the miraculous for herself) While he takes Marinette towards the hospital to kill Chloe & lure out Chat Noir.

Ryuko, Alya & a partially feral Lila defend the Miraculous Box, with the other heroes showing up to help after Mayura is driven off.

Lila also reveals Hawk Moth's identity, so Chat knows via phone call.

Chloe awakens in time to finish her redemption arc by basically goading Marinette & HK into focusing on her over Chat.

Nino catches Hawk Moth in a bubble shield and Chat has to destroy the ear ring to free Marinette & everyone gangs up on Hawk Moth.

He is un-masked publicly but manages to escape, despite Chloe's murder effort, thanks to unleashing a swarm of Akuma from Lila.

The Akuma are captured and purified before they can do much harm, but the Miraculous Cure is not working properly. The ear rings are only half usable at best. Worse, if they want to avoid Lila becoming a permanent Akuma she needs the remaining one to stay herself.

The heroes get Marinette out of the public eye before her ID can be revealed & she's allowed to have a good fucking cry. Adrien reveals his ID & he probably has a small breakdown too. But everyone resolves to go to the Agreste Manor & end things.

Sadly, Hawk Moth has fled, blowing up the manor and sending an Akumatized Gorrila to collect Adrien. Leaving behind only a weird basement ruin with no sign of his plans.

Epilogue:

Because of this, the Miraculous are divided up with their various users, though some are likely swapped or have other security precautions.

Until Marinette decodes the book & fixes Tikki's Miraculous she is left as Multi-Mouse and with a half functional Miracle Cure courtesy of Lila who 100% cannot fight but is hiding out with their crew anyway.

Hawk Moth is shown repairing the Peacock Miraculous and unveiling his Unification/Rebrand. Though where he is or who is harboring him is still a mystery. His identity may be publicly unknown to protect Adrien who has moved in with his aunt and cousin.

This leaves us with a massively shaken status quo, a full hero team, an empowered but no longer anonymous and much more personal villain, no more school rivals and no more mentors or secret identities among friend or foes.
