So we all know the 75th Quell wasn’t just for Katniss now, right??
It was - get rid of Finnick, people tell him too much and like him too much
It was - get rid of Mags (she’ll volunteer to save anyone), she’s always been too much of a rebel and cares more about the tributes than the games (i.e. hiding Finnick from cameras)
It was - get rid of Beetee, we’re finally done with him (I want to know why he’s suddenly disposable though). But let’s make it as awful as possible and remind him every day what his son was feeling in his own last days
It was - get rid of Wiress (and also show the world what she’s become) because she never should have won (and we’ll show people what happens when you think you’re smarter than the Capitol)
It was - get rid of Johanna Mason, we killed everyone she loved and it didn’t break her enough so now we can’t control her
And of course, it was - get rid of those rebels from 12
But it wasn’t just punishment for Katniss. She had no idea how influential and volatile of a group they were.
Honestly, I feel like the 3rd Quell might have actually worked if the Capitol hadn’t decided to just send all the most rebellious and threatening victors into them. You can’t put 10+ people who rebelled in their own games back into an arena (and this time they’re all together) and expect it to go well for you???

how do y’all think haymitch felt when katniss came back to him all “i want wiress, beetee, and mags as allies” in catching fire? hand-picking his two and a half men(tors)!!
“of course you do” as his response now means so much more bc he’s not just exasperated he’s like “you really are me with a braid”

ok one detail i do love about s2e10 is how excited lila looks every time she gets to use the siblings’ powers because she presumably hasn’t had a lot to mirror up until that point

How to Write a Character
↠ Start with the basics, because obviously. Name. Age. Gender. Maybe even a birthday if you’re feeling fancy. This is step one because, well, your character needs to exist before they can be interesting. But nobody cares if they’re 27 or 37 unless it actually matters to the story.
↠ Looks aren’t everything… but also, describe them. Yes, we know their soul is more important than their hair color, but readers still need something to visualize. Do they have the kind of face that makes babies cry? Do they always look like they just rolled out of bed? Give us details, not just “tall with brown hair.
↠ Personality isn’t just “kind but tough.” For the love of storytelling, give them more than two adjectives. Are they kind, or do they just pretend to be because they hate confrontation? Are they actually tough, or are they just too emotionally repressed to cry in public? Dig deeper.
↠ Backstory = Trauma (usually). Something shaped them. Maybe it was a messy divorce, maybe they were the middle child and never got enough attention, or maybe they once got humiliated in a spelling bee and never recovered. Whatever it is, make it matter to who they are today.
↠ Give them a goal. Preferably a messy one. If your character’s only motivation is to “be happy” or “do their best,” they’re boring. They need a real goal, one that conflicts with who they are, what they believe in, or what they think they deserve. Bonus points if it wrecks them emotionally.
↠ Make them suffer. Yes, I said it. A smooth, easy journey is not a story. Give them obstacles. Rip things away from them. Make them work for what they want. Nobody wants to read about a character who just gets everything handed to them (unless it’s satire, then carry on).
↠ Relationships = Depth. Nobody exists in a vacuum. Who do they love? Who annoys the hell out of them? Who do they have that messy, can’t-live-with-you-can’t-live-without-you tension with? People shape us. So, shape your character through the people in their life.
↠ Give them a voice that actually sounds like them. If all your characters talk the same, you’ve got a problem. Some people ramble, some overthink, some are blunt to the point of being offensive. Let their voice show who they are. You should be able to tell who’s talking without dialogue tags.
↠ If they don’t grow, what’s the point? People change. They learn things, make mistakes, get their hearts broken, and (hopefully) become a little wiser. If your character starts and ends the story as the same exact person, you just wasted everyone’s time.
↠ Flaws. Give. Them. Flaws. Nobody likes a perfect character. Give them something to struggle with, maybe they’re selfish, maybe they push people away, maybe they’re addicted to the thrill of self-destruction (fun!). Make them real. Make them human.
↠ Relatability is key. Your character doesn’t have to be likable, but they do have to be understandable. Readers need to get them, even if they don’t agree with them. If your character never struggles, never doubts, and never screws up, I have bad news: they’re not a character, they’re a mannequin.
↠ You’re never actually done. Characters evolve, not just in the story, but as you write them. If something feels off, fix it. If they feel flat, dig deeper. Keep refining, rewriting, and letting them surprise you. That’s how you create someone who feels real.
Now go forth and write characters that actually make people feel something. And if you need a reminder, just ask yourself: Would I care if this person existed in real life? If the answer is meh, start over.

Argument-Ending Prompts
"So this is who you really are?"
"I can't believe I ever trusted you."
"You were never there when it mattered."
"This is the last time you let me down."
"I guess we were never meant to be."
"Just go, I can't even look at you right now."
"I've given you so many chances, no more."
"Everything you said was just a lie, wasn't it?"
"You think you're right, but you're just alone."
"I'm done trying to make this work."
"You've shown me enough; it's over."
"Keep your excuses to yourself, I'm done listening."
"You chose this, remember that."
"I'm not wasting another minute on you."
"Forget my number, we're through."

Writing Advice for Brainstorming
Mix genres and time periods: Experiment by combining elements from different eras or genres to create unique settings and narratives.
Use "what if" scenarios: Pose unexpected questions (e.g., What if time travel operated on emotions rather than mechanics?) to spark novel ideas.
Draw from diverse mediums: Engage with art, music, or even scientific papers to inspire unexpected plot twists.
Embrace absurdity: Let illogical or surreal ideas guide you; sometimes the wildest thoughts lead to compelling stories.
Reverse clichés: Identify common tropes in your favorite genres and deliberately invert them to create fresh perspectives.
Incorporate personal anomalies: Transform your idiosyncrasies and personal struggles into rich, multi-dimensional characters.
Use mind-mapping: Visually plot your ideas in a freeform way to uncover hidden connections between disparate elements.

Softness Turned Sinister (Character Traits)
Love turning into obsession They start by wanting to be close to them. Then, they want to know everything, every thought, every movement, every breath. Love shouldn’t feel like possession, but theirs does. And It doesn’t even feel wrong.
Loyalty turning into willing servitude At first, it’s devotion. Unwavering support. But somewhere along the way, it stops being a choice. They would do anything for this person. Even things that make their stomach turn. Even things they swore they never would.
Curiosity turning into obsessionThey just wanted to understand. To know more. But knowledge is addictive. And when you start pulling at certain threads, the whole world starts unraveling. Some doors, once opened, refuse to close.
Empathy turning into self-sacrifice They feel everything. Other people’s pain. Their suffering. And it twists inside them until they’d rather take the hurt themselves than watch someone else bear it. Even if it means destroying themselves completely.
Hope turning into delusion They refuse to give up on them. Refuse to believe they can’t be saved. No matter what they do, no matter how much it hurts, they keep believing. Even when the truth is staring them in the face... Some people aren’t meant to be saved.
Patience turning into endurance of abuse"They didn’t mean it." "They’re just struggling." "It will get better." Patience keeps them waiting. Hoping. Making excuses. Until one day, they look in the mirror and realize, there’s nothing left of the person they used to be.
Generosity turning into power They give. And give. And give. But not because they’re kind. Because they want something in return. Because there’s a weight to every gift, a silent contract no one realizes they’ve signed. Until it’s too late.
Bravery turning into recklessnessThey stop feeling fear. Stop caring about consequences. What starts as courage morphs into something else, a desperate, manic need to prove they are untouchable. Until the moment they realize, they’re not.
Innocence turning into cruelty They used to be gentle. Sweet. The kind of person who never hurt anyone. But kindness is fragile. And when the world broke them, they didn’t just break. They shattered. And now, they want the world to hurt the way they did.
Protectiveness turning into violenceThey said they’d do anything to keep them safe. And they meant it. Even if it means hurting people. Even if it means killing people. Because if love is a battlefield, then they have already decided, they refuse to lose.
Charm turning into manipulation They know exactly what to say. What to do. How to make people want them, trust them, follow them. It’s not a gift, it’s a weapon. And they use it without hesitation.
Honesty turning into crueltyThey don’t lie. Ever. But the truth can be just as sharp as a blade. They don’t sugarcoat. They don’t soften the blow. They enjoy watching the way people flinch when they say exactly what they mean.
