It's kind of a shame that the "anti-filler" mentality has reached a point where a lot of writers (and fans) assume that if a show isnt constantly moving the plot forward and establishing lore, its basically filler and wasting space. Personally I think its good, if not necessary for a show to slow down and just have characters hang out, or deal with smaller conflicts.

It feels like a lot of stories just want to rush to the emotional scenes with barely any build up to really make it feel earned and satisfying. I've seen fans pester creators to rush the story along and reach the next big set piece rather than take the time to really know and appreciate the characters.

Why should I care about the emotional stakes in episode 2 when I barely know a character's likes and dislikes? how they handle conflict, their approach to relationships both platonic and romantic. etc,

#txt #it seems to be a problem in both indie and professional settings #i have a lot of mixed feelings on steven universe. but one thing i always appreciated was the clear prioritization of character focused #episodes. its why i never agreed with the take that season 1 is bad or the 'worst season' because it had 'too much filler'#the latter fantastic episodes from seasons 2 and 3 would not hit as hard without the amount of time and hours spent really getting to know #these characters.

Again as if they could fit into the show itself #there arent a lot of skin toned ponies walking around equestria for a reason... it's uncanny unfortunately #that often makes fan ponies all follow the exact scame scheme of light body + dark hair #they get really indistinguishable so go wild!!!! mix things up!!!#sorry Im passionate about animal character design and ponies #tubby art

Keeping you all on your toes with the quality of my work in this series.#I had to fire off some expectation-lowering shots to rebuild my energy.#I enjoy opportunities to experiment with formatting and challenge myself B*) I really like how this came out!#In this case; I have been thinking about this comic for nearly a year! The reunion scene!#The start of the festering! The longing LWJ feels contrasted against the reality that WWX has been fundamentally changed.#This is the shape of someone you knew. This is no longer the person you had in your head. Maybe that person never existed.#We build up expectations of who we want people to be - but they are never *who* that person is.#Loving the JC & LWJ parallels with this concept as well; they are both self-inflicted victims of pushing their expectations on WWX.#But we are who we are. We cannot become the idealized version of ourselves that lives in another person's head.#And I love how WWX comes back a little (a lot) horrifying. In his actions and appearance - he has changed. Maybe for the worst.

Watching this again, it becomes incredibly clear in s3 that Nate is teaching Parker how to run her own crew. He fully anticipates that she will be his legacy, and more than anyone else---more than Sophie or Hardison, more than Eliot (though I would argue that Eliot never even slightly wanted it)---he is teaching her how to take over, think like he thinks and plan like he plans. He fumbles some of the emotional stuff, never actually tells her explicitly...but by the time you reach s3 he's clearly all-in. He's decided. Parker is going to be Nate 2.0, with different more exciting bugs than the 1.0 version.

#there's a handful of scenes in subsequent episodes where it's the two of them standing in the control room #and poring over schematics and documents #discussing between them how to move chess pieces around the board. it's subtle but it stands out.#(aftshadowing? I guess? not sure what foreshadowing is when the shadows didn't exist at the time.)#anyway I'm just fascinated by nate and parker. two people who are different in every way except #their weird. it vibrates at the same frequency.#they like art but mostly for non-artistic reasons. they think a lot about insurance plans and security systems.#they don't....really understand people except the 3-4 humans that are sometimes okay.#they both go weak the moment you introduce a child to the mix - but it also throws their alien strangeness in sharp relief.#anyway.#leverage
