They’re really interesting foils in many ways. I’ve always thought that Marcille & Mithrun have underrated dynamic potential. Give me the cringefail dungeon lords. Give me the elves with ears-centric metaphorical self-image issues. Give me the academic elites whose deepest strongest desires will always remain unreachable and the only option is to turn to the corrupt forbidden fruit of a demon pact. I am so so normal about Mithrun and Marcille
I wonder if the resemblance between captain Mithrun and general Hagreus aka Marcille’s fave in Dalclan is intentional… They definitely look very alike. It could represent idealization vs reality? Something something the romanticization of elves and their societal drama in their fiction vs a very real and imperfect product of their military system. The canaries certainly aren’t glamorous next to whatever Hagreus is the general of. I feel like she never had the opportunity to notice the resemblance herself bc within seconds of meeting him he was wrestling her on the ground but. If she had… She would so think he should have been his actor in the tallman stage play of Daltian Clan in that new extra comic hehe. I love the little details like Hagreus’ lips being drawn with extra details because they’re full and pretty while Mithrun’s lips are drawn with extra details because they’re chapped lmao.

This art is all silly and surface level but in my head mithrille is like so dramatic and I make up daltian clan level big plots with them gbdgd. I made a spotify playlist for mithrun if y’all interested, rn it’s mostly centered around cravings that consume and losing yourself and illusions inspired from his time as dungeon lord but it’s branching out. Varied vibes, levels of intensity and degrees of confusion and await you ✨ I would emotionally rant about Chainsaw Man ost lyrics and how they tie in with Mithrun and the winged lion’s relationship but this post is already a monster
I want more of these two please please please pleaseee just one or two interactions in the new canon content coming up… All they ever did was debate philosophy on desires and human self-fulfillment and try to murder each other, please… I never get to gush about them and I can’t shut up so if you want more thoughts I talk about them more below
To get a girl to peacefully accept arrest follow these simple steps: in private, ominously stand above her and forcefully interrogate her, while in public, tell her you’ve met before (untrue and also not a pickup line) and interrogate her with a thin veneer of decorum. If all else fails, threaten and follow through on said threat. My guy needs more than just physical therapy I’m afraid
Sorry if most of these were Marcille-centric with Mithrun standing there looking cool, if I were doing these more from Mithrun’s pov things would be like "She’s a bit much but I guess I don’t mind hanging around her." or "Oh you’re a half-elf? -insert elven supremacist rethoric-" or "I have to keep her from becoming demon stew." immediately followed by "Did someone say demon? Kill kill kill kill kill" since these are set prior to like really knowing another. Then things would be more like "huh she has bad tastes in novels but her magic research is pretty interesting" and "I’m lonely and don’t understand myself— Oh she loves talking about feelings? Oh shi-" That last one is an aspect of why I like Marcille and Mithrun’s potential dynamic lol. She’s very… Emotionally intelligent alongside being impulsive. You think you have no feelings because the world has beaten them out of you? Think again!! Marcille be upon ye! -In a therapy sort of way but mostly in a connecting with people and your own self through interpersonal relationships and talking kinda way. I just think a lively, upbeat, annoying friend way too interested in your personal life would do him good, the canaries are nice but like if Marcille went to prison and was a sort of extra new bunkmate I think that’d be interesting and fun to read is what I’m saying
Unlike Kabru she wants all the useless messy filler of his backstory, eating chips while listening. Like two chibi sets side by side, "me and my fellow canaries, name name and name-" "Hold on that’s too much info we have to compact this" vs "Then we were to sleep on the third floor of the dungeon, which had the look of a mausoleum, and name and name got into a fight over the campfire placement." while Marcille is like uh-huh what next what next while kicking her feet. She thinks of pre-dungeon pompous Mithrun and is like omg you went through a character arc and became better as a person- and then he opens his mouth and she’s like nevermind let’s keep working on that. She would also go "ew ur hair is greasy" and give him a full hair care treatment. What I’m saying is I need them to be forced to spend time in a dungeon together and become besties through a life or death roadtrip
Marcille is insecure about her ears, long, like an elf’s pride should be, but rounder, inelegant. Seeing Mithrun though, the epitome of beauty, with his half-cut ears make it a sillier thought. Not sure if Mithrun is the best person to reconnect with ur elven culture with but it sure is an option Marcille would so appreciate being around someone both cool headed and kind, I genuinely think they’d get along, like not that Senshi isn’t that too most of the time but I think Mithrun would be in a way that’s more refreshing to her. I’d be so curious about them discussing Dalclan, I doubt he’d have read it but she could make him read it, maybe post-canon with the excuse that they’re trying to find him a new hobby hah. He’d tear into the writing and everything but it’d be a fun time, I like to think that it’d make him a bit less prejudiced. Marcille @ Mithrun "👉👈 Soo maybe you don’t know these books they’re pretty recent having come out 50 years ago but…"
I’ve been in a Mithrun phase I want to make and read Mithrun-centric fics and angst so baaad. I razz him a lot here but he’s literally a traumatized military man that became obsessed with revenge due to bad coping and neglects himself in the process idk not much for him going on and some of it is because he has to work on himself, but hey no one’s perfect it all comes from a place of love and relating though I prommy. He’s the one ungodly angsty squeaky toy blorbo with brain damage rep I have don’t take him from me

THERE'S TOLKIEN CODED DWARF METAL
I'm loosing my shit
it's metal, but dwarf, so like even more dwarf! There's even jokes about it being called Mithril😭 The band is called Windrose, and that's the only kind of metal music I've ever really liked.
But like "Diggy Diggy Hole"? "There and Back Again", "The King Under The Mountain"? This is fantastic
#the amount of times ive screamed DIGGY DIGGY HOLE today is not normal#this is so heavily durin coded#and the thorin references#my hobbit fan heart is crying#thorin Oakenshield#the hobbit#erebor#durin#dwarves#bilbo would not approve and this makes it somehow better#somebody get classically trained actor Richard Armitage to cover Diggy Diggy hole#i would quite literally die#funnily enough there performing near me this summer#the plans are already being made#im going in an adventure#as dear Bilbo would say#windrose#dwarf metal#mithril

another bagginshield story idea because the writers block is still kicking my ass but I need to write it down.
What if Bilbo lies about his and Thorin's relationship and tells whoever asks that they're partners. HERE ME OUT! I know this sounds shitty BUT
What if he does it so that people can leave him alone. Or to get discounts/tax benefits (however taxes work in Middle Earth/The Shire). What if he uses his Scary Boyfriend Privileges. What if people already assumed they were together and he was too exchausted with Everything to correct anybody and at some point after wearing the mithril armor everyday and having braids Thorin put in and doing traditionay hobbity and Dwarvish courting customs he's says "fuck it we practically are at this point" lmao. Like they share food and spar together and both of them have continually refused marriage proposals and Bilbo's like "well if he doesn't know we're married then sucks to be him" about Thorin.
WAIT BETTER IDEA HIT WHILE I WAS WRITING THIS
BOTH of these cringefail losers lie. :00 Imagine: after months of living in Erebor and doing traditionally Dwarvish courting customs and Bilbo keeps being badgered about it he lies and tells people he's courting Thorin. And also uses this as a way to keep potential suitors from marrying Thorin. He's intercepting letters from suitors and being like "oh whoops sorry news must travel slow to Ered Luin but Thorin is already engaged:(( yep I know. Welp. Good day."
Then. For some reason both he and Thorin travel back to The Shire right. They're staying there for a month or two. rumors obviously start about why and where Bilbo had left. And while they're there they do traditionally hobbity courting customs and so nosy cousin's and neighbirs start badgering Thorin about their relationship and their adventure and Thorin's just like "yeah we got married back in Erebor. Yep right after he slayed a dragon. Yeah he was too cool to not marry. Yep."
And so someone like random like Drogo Gamgee or smt mentions what Thorin's been talking about to Bilbo and a dwarf from Ered Luin sends Thorin a raven and they both find out what the other was saying behind each other's backs and make out so hard Mordor explodes. Or something.
Idk it is like. 5:30 am rn. I had maybe an hour of sleep before I woke up in a cold sweat to write this down and read @/conkers-thecosy fanfics. You're welcome.
Edit: chapter one of Dragonfly is now here :>
#bagginshield#bilbo baggins#thorin oakenshield#bagginshield fanfic#thilbo#the shire#erebor#the hobbit#fanfic writing#I think I'm! Going insane!#Don't be sad. Bilbo and Thorin being sneaky assholes because they're cringefail losers ok?#I love them.#screeching

On Monday, remember how I said FR1: Waterdeep and the North is really just about Waterdeep? Well, FR5: The Savage Frontier (1988), released the following year, is basically the “and the North.” In form, though, it pairs with FR2: Moonshae as a pretty typical Gazeteer-style sourcebook, full of lore, notable locales and interesting inhabitants. Unlike that volume, this one contains explicit adventure hooks, which are a nice feature.
While a lot of the material here is derived from Greenwood’s notes, I think it is interesting that TSR trusted this book to a freelancer, even if that freelancer was RPG heavyweight Jennell Jaquays (who penned Dark Tower and Caverns of Thracia, and co-authored Griffin Mountain, among a pile of other important RPG books). FR5 covers all the major spots on the Sword Coast, probably the most visited region of the Realms — Icewind Dale (home of Drizzt), Mithril Hall, the Spine of the World, Luskan, Neverwinter, Hellgate Keep and more are profiled here pretty much for the first time (Icewind Dale, of course, had already debuted in R.A. Salvatore’s novel The Crystal Shard, though). I can’t help but wonder if the enduring appeal of these places is partly down to Jaquays’ influence.
There is some weird stuff, too. I noticed, probably because it was so fresh, that Doc from I12: The Egg of the Phoenix is hanging out here, despite that other module taking place in Greyhawk (you read that post way back in March, but I wrote it yesterday). I looked up Shannon Appelcline’s notes for the book on Drivethru and he has no explanation for this, but he does note that Jaquays also recycled Amelior Amanitas and Jingleshod the Iron Axeman from her excellent DragonQuest module The Enchanted Wood (1981), which I really should post about one of these days.
Great Larry Elmore cover with his trademark snow. What a bunch of weirdos, right? Skull guy and mage guy and blue guy and orc guy make quite the group. Interiors are by Esteban Maroto. They aren’t bad, but they seem undercooked — this is probably the first instance of underwhelming art in a Forgotten Realms book, but it sure won’t be the last.

why would Aaravos want a mortal vessel?
alright, so
I've watched the new season. I've already screamed and cried and rolled under the table and I have one final question left.
Why would Aaravos want a mortal vessel? Especially now, when the Archdragons are gone. He is supposed to be infinitely stronger than any other being on Xadia. Supposed to, yeah. Did you see the so called 'master of all six primal sources' show off his mastery more than once? Because I didn't. And it pisses me off beyond measure because it really seems like bad writing to me. He just fucking didn't do anything, just stood there, waiting for his enemies to charge at him. He was easily overcome by fucking human chains and ballistas- and one archdragon- when we were said that in the past he could easily hold off against all of them! Damn. Imo, Aaravos was seriously downplayed this season.
I know, perhaps this was his plan- to get himself killed and take all of the archdragons with him. Even so, he should've put up more of a fight. NOT JUST STAND THERE WAITING TO BE SMACKED!
And still why? Why want Callum as a mortal vessel? It doesn't make any sense. Maybe the Star Council or what's they're called- maybe they have a restriction prohibiting them to hurt mortals? Which sounds rather stupid but it's the only explanation I can think of.
The creators tried to do the build-up for arc 3 and in doing so they rushed and blurred the arc 2 finale. Putting together the archdragon drama, killing Aaravos drama and Rayllum drama was a mistake. Neither got fully developed. And were they seriously trying to tell us that the main cast would have survived the nuclear burst explosion of a star while being protected only by Domina's wings??? What are the wicked things even made of?? Oceanic mithril???
The final showdown felt like a series of Chekhov's guns which never fired. They just made a lot of drama around them, then showed them to us and- that's it. I suppose, Aaravos's plan was to get stabbed by the Nova blade, then take over Callum's body (for whatever reason) as his giant form was being destroyed. But then- we return to the question of why move to another body when there's nothing stopping Ezran from stabbing Aaravos in Callum's body (aside from their brotherly bond but that's no big deal, he just needs to ask Soren or whatever-).
As a result, we got Ezran with a Nova blade which never got to be used- Callum with his coin spell which was interrupted halfway because Aaravos got charged at by a dragon and Callum's gunsight was broken??? ??? That's- I'll be honest, this is so dumb. No Nova, no dark magic. Why even bring that at all?
And finally, what did Aaravos even die from? He did not sustain any lethal damage. When Zubeia and Avizandum were lifting him up (and yes, why didn't he stop them? did he forget all of his spells and telekinesis as well??), what were they thinking?.. What were they gonna do? It looked like they were about to drop him but- this is also so dumb. I don't think that would have worked because if Aaravos is so easy to kill- Why the fuck didn't they kill him 300 years ago??? "Didn't want to?". God damn.
I won't believe that Aaravos didn't have the power to take down the archdragons and that's why he simply decided it would be easier to go boom and set off the rebirth cycle. I refuse to believe that he is so weak. After all, one, he already killed two archdragons and that went fine. And two, even humans managed to kill one! They even survived!
Overall, I am absolutely in love with the first half of the season. I loved all the conflict everywhere, the part in Silvergrove was wonderful, felt like a real holiday- The adventures of Claudia and Co were also very exciting to watch!
But after that... It got rushed, blurred and very, very odd.
At least we got a white streak Callum. And a whole lot of 1 (one) interaction between Aaravos and Callum. That's an achievement, yeah. I love when the main protagonist and the main antagonist only have two interactions throughout all of the seasons (no, I don't, I fucking hate it).
That would be all. This is entirely my humble and angry opinion so- you are welcome to disagree. But I will stand my ground. This went very oddly and some parts I unfortunately didn't like. But I am all in for arc 3. Even angry and a little disappointed, I still fucking love this show and would be more than excited to see how it all goes from here. We still have so much to learn and see. The cube, Claudia, Rayllum, Elarion, grown up and talking Zym (it was such a twist!), Harrow in a bird... Please let us see this! Please, Netflix! Aaravos is not defeated, he merely retreated, please let us see how they'll deal with him in seven years!
#the dragon prince#tdp s7 spoilers#tdp spoilers#tdp critical#tdp aaravos#tdp archdragons#tdp opinion#thoughts#give us the saga#greenlightarc3#continue the saga#and I was genuinely surprised by the relationship between Claudia and Aaravos#an unexpected found family#I thought Aaravos would be more cold-hearted and manipulative#but it seems he warmed up for the poor girl#it doesn't seem healthy for both sides but- it was cute and understandable#upd: though now that I think about it-#it probably still was a manipulation#in claudia he prepared himself a hidden ally for his return#if claudia truly believes he thinks of her as a daughter#that would only make her work harder#and more loyally

I usually write and post Undertale fanfiction on a different account, but I kept seeing those time-travel The Hobbit fics and I really liked the premise, so I wrote a small bit of one. I have no idea what else to do with it, soooooo here have the random fic I wrote at like 1 AM.
(Quick disclaimer, I'm not actually super well-versed in Middle-Earth lore. I've read and loved The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, but I haven't gotten around to reading The Silmarillion or anything yet. I probably got some stuff wrong in terms of lore, so sorry about that. This was written for fun and I'm not planning on making it into a longer fic, but I thought I'd share it because why not.)
Bilbo was dead.
He knew he was dead. He had died in the Undying Lands, finally succumbing to the age of his body, surrounded by Frodo and Gandalf and the elves as he drifted off into his very last adventure. He had lived a long life. A good life. One with regrets, of course, but also one with much joy and love.
Hobbit-lore had never said much about their afterlife - not like the lore of elves, dwarves, or even men - but Bilbo had always supposed it would be something like this, the comfort of home. For he had found himself back in his hobbit-hole, back in Bag-End, seated at his table with a lovely-looking tea spread out before him.
His aches, his weariness, were gone. His joints and back moved easily, without any pain to speak of. His eyesight was perfectly clear. Even his bald patches had vanished, his head and feet covered once again in thick bushes of curly hair.
"Why, I don't feel a day over fifty," he marvelled under his breath, grinning a little.
Leaving his food on the table, he explored his home, running his fingers along the backs of chairs and rifling through drawers. Most things were exactly as he remembered it - better, even for he had not seen his silver spoons for decades, yet there they were, sitting neatly with the rest of his cutlery. The only objects unaccounted for were the things from his adventure; Sting, the coat of mithril, the chests of gold and silver, and the ring (he caught himself a moment before thinking 'his ring'). But he had given Sting and the coat to Frodo anyway, the ring had been destroyed, and he didn't suppose he would need gold or silver in the afterlife, so he paid it no mind.
He had just sat back down to his tea when the doorbell rang. He was not expecting visitors, of course, as he had only just gotten to this hobbitish afterlife, but he was not nearly as fussy about that sort of thing as he had once been, so he got to his feet and went to greet his guest.
He wasn't sure what he had been expecting, but it hadn't been a dwarf, and it most certainly hadn't been a very familiar dwarf with a long beard and a dark green hood, worn and stained from travel, his bright eyes glittering from beneath its hem.
The dwarf hopped inside as soon as the door was open, hanging his hooded cloak on one of the pegs, then sweeping into a low bow. "Dwalin at your service!"
Bilbo was frozen, one hand still on the polished brass doorknob, staring at his old friend, who now looked decades younger and was wearing the same clothes he had been the first time they had met.
"Dwalin?" he asked. "What are you doing here?" Even if the dwarf was dead too, he surely wouldn't be here, wherever here was.
Dwalin frowned slightly. "I am here for the meeting, of course."
"Meeting?" he echoed, mystified.
"Yes, the meeting." Dwalin gave him an odd look, as if he should have already known. "And, er, whose service do I have the pleasure of being at?"
Bilbo blinked. "What?"
"Your name," Dwalin elaborated.
After a moment of mutually puzzled silence, Bilbo took a closer look at Dwalin. The clothes. The appearance. The expression, politely confused. Asking for his name.
I don't feel a day over fifty.
He swallowed. "I - Bilbo." Slowly, he bowed. "Mister Bilbo Baggins, at your service." He straightened, gesturing to the hall behind him. "I, uh - I just set out tea. Please, help yourself."
Dwalin nodded, bustling off down the hall. Bilbo did not follow him, but sat down on the ornamental chair by all the hooks and put his head in his hands. This... wasn't possible, was it? He couldn't be back then. He had died, for goodness' sake.
Before he could get very far with his thoughts, the bell rang again. He sprang up, nearly wrenching the door open to reveal an old, red-hooded dwarf, who immediately hopped inside.
"I see they have begun to arrive already," he noted as he hung his hood next to Dwalin's. He then bowed, giving Bilbo an entirely unnecessary introduction.
"Balin, at your service!"
"Bilbo Baggins at yours," Bilbo replied, bowing in return. "Dwalin is inside - please, go join him, I'll bring out more tea. Unless you would prefer a little beer?" he added, remembering his old friend's preferences.
Balin smiled. "Yes, and some seed-cake, if you have any."
"Yes, lots."
Balin set off down the hall to join his brother, and Bilbo went to the pantry to collect the beer and seed-cakes.
Well, that settles it, he thought, a tad grimly. I am back at the very beginning of it all. He wasn't entirely enthusiastic about the prospect, given that he knew what lay ahead, but he resolved to do his very best with this second chance. To make their journey better with his knowledge. Maybe he could even save...
He shook his head and quickly delivered Balin's food and drink, right before the bell rang a third time and he had to rush back to the door.
It was Fili and Kili this time, and Bilbo's heart started aching when he saw them, young and whole and alive, their yellow beards clean of blood and grime, their eyes sparkling and clear.
"Kili at your service!"
"And Fili!"
He took their hoods and bags, setting them carefully to the side, and bowed back, fighting the urge to pull them both into a hug. Somehow, he managed to speak past the lump in his throat. "Bilbo Baggins, at yours and your family's."
"Dwalin and Balin here already, I see," said Kili cheerfully. "Let us join the throng!"
Bilbo nodded and stepped aside to let them pass. He very firmly set aside his grief, his questions, his racing thoughts, and fixed his mind on the task at hand - namely, preparing enough food, drink, and chairs to host a company of fifteen.
While the four dwarves settled in and got to talking, he hurriedly set out more places at the table, then started raiding his pantry, bringing out everything from the wine to the cheese wheels. Halfway through, the bell rang again, and he practically sprinted to the door - in fact, he got there fast enough that Gloin had only just come puffing up to the doorstep.
Introductions were short, and the five newcomers soon joined the others at the table while Bilbo went back to emptying his pantries before they could do it themselves.
He had almost finished when a loud rapping echoed down the hall, the knock of wood against wood. Bilbo sighed heavily, thinking mournfully of the dent in his nice green door that he had never quite gotten around to fixing, and, whisking one last plate of food onto the table, set off to let his guests inside for the fifth and final time that night.
He made sure to open the door very slowly and carefully, so as not to repeat his mistake from all those years ago and end up with a pile of dwarves on his doormat. This time, all four of them hopped inside without incident, and Gandalf ducked through the doorway a moment later.
"Hello, Bilbo," he greeted with a smile. "I hope you do not mind terribly that I brought guests to our tea."
Bilbo sighed again, casting a glance in the direction of his depleted pantries. "Not at all, Gandalf."
"Excellent!" The wizard clapped his hands. "Now, allow me to introduce you to Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, and especially Thorin!"
There were the usual bows and "At your service"s from Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur, and none at all from Thorin, not that Bilbo had expected any. He gave all four of them a deep bow in return.
"Bilbo Baggins." He glanced up, meeting Thorin's proud gaze and ignoring the pang of grief, an old, old pain that had never really gone away. "At your service."
Thorin merely turned to toss his sky-blue, silver-tasselled hood onto a hook beside the others.
"Now we are all here!" declared Gandalf, hanging his hat at the end of the row of hoods. "Quite a merry gathering. I hope there is something left for the latecomers to eat and drink!"
"Yes, there's plenty," replied Bilbo, gesturing for the group to follow him down the hall.
Gandalf fell into step beside him, peering curiously down at him. He opened his mouth to ask something, but Bilbo quickly interrupted.
"Be careful of the -"
Thunk.
"Rafters," Bilbo finished with yet another sigh, watching Gandalf rub his head.
"A little low, these ceilings," the wizard commented, grimacing.
"Or maybe you're just a little tall!" called a grinning Fili from the dining room. "We seem to be managing just fine."
"Impertinent dwarf," Gandalf grumbled, hunched over to keep from hitting his head again.
Bilbo darted ahead to pull out a chair for Thorin, the grandest chair he could find in his little hobbit-hole. Thorin paused for a moment, then slowly sank into it, nodding his thanks. Bilbo gave him a quick smile and took his own place at the table, which he had made sure to include this time, as he didn't want to miss out on all the food again.
He wasn't much for conversation, as he didn't want to slip up and reveal all the things he knew, but he didn't bother asking if they would stay for supper after the meal was finished. Already knowing the answer, he just made to collect the plates, and didn't protest when the dwarves sprang up to clear them away instead.
The dishes were soon cleaned and put away, and the dwarves came back to find Bilbo watching Thorin and Gandalf blow smoke-rings around the room.
"Now for some music!" Thorin declared as his company filed into the room, snuffing out his pipe and setting it aside. "Bring out the instruments!"
There was a rush for instruments just as Bilbo remembered, and he sat back in his chair to listen to the dwarves' music. It was enthralling as it had been the first time, and he felt as though he was indeed fifty all over again and feeling a great desire for adventure. He found himself humming quietly along to the familiar tune.
It eventually stopped, of course, once dark had fallen, and Thorin stood to begin his speech.
"Gandalf, dwarves, and Mister Baggins! We are met together in the house of our friend and fellow conspirator, this most excellent and audacious hobbit - may the hair on his toes never fall out! All praise to his wine and ale!"
The ache in Bilbo's heart increased upon hearing his friend's typically long-winded beginning, and he barely managed to reply, "You are very kind." His voice came out with a funny choked quality to it, as if he was about to cry. Which was, of course, absurd, he thought as he blinked furiously against his burning eyes.
Thorin stopped, staring at Bilbo, his brow furrowed. "Is something the matter, Mister Baggins?"
Bilbo quickly shook his head, scrubbing away the tears that were leaking down his cheeks. "Nothing at all, Thorin," he whispered, unable to help the familiarity that slipped out with his friend's first name. "And, uh -" He cleared his throat, speaking a little louder. "Please, call me Bilbo, all of you. It seems appropriate if we're to - uh, work together."
Slowly, Thorin nodded, although he did not continue with his speech. He just... stared at Bilbo, a puzzled divot between his heavy brows, until Bilbo shifted uncomfortably, worried that he had made a mistake.
"Tell me, Mister Baggi - Bilbo," said Thorin suddenly. "Do you have much experience in the matter of burglary?"
Bilbo felt his lips twist into a humourless smile as images flashed in his mind. A golden cup. A large gemstone that could be called white, if you ascribed the same colour to the stars themselves. Before that, a set of keys, countless morsels of food, even the very dwarves who now sat in his dining room. All done while invisible, of course, but perhaps this time he could be a burglar before he found the ring as well as afterwards. (He was a little reluctant to take possession of the ring again now that he knew what it was, but he also knew that it had been an invaluable asset on their journey, and besides if he hadn't found it, it wouldn't have been destroyed, so he resolved to pick it up again as he had before.)
"Yes. Quite a bit, in fact."
A murmur of surprise went around the room. Even Gandalf's bushy eyebrows raised, although he stayed silent, still puffing on his pipe.
"How about travel?" Thorin asked, evidently set on grilling him now. "Fighting? Sword or axe, what's your weapon of choice?"
Bilbo sighed yet again. "I'm rather skilled at darts, if you must know, and I quite enjoy a good hike now and then," he answered, voice dripping with sarcasm that he never would have dared back at the beginning, but he was rather used to being treated with the indulgence afforded to eccentric elderly folk, so he didn't think much of it at all until Thorin snorted and he realised that the dwarf had taken his words seriously.
Another outbreak of muttering spread throughout the room, and amidst all the questions about his sincerity, he caught the fated words, murmured by Gloin to Oin.
"He looks more like a grocer than a burglar."
Bilbo's teeth gritted, and he addressed Thorin again, discarding the sarcasm this time. "In all seriousness, I favour a sword, although seeing how I am not currently in possession of one, the question seems moot."
Thorin looked him up and down, as if trying and failing to imagine him using a sword. "I see."
Electing to ignore the dwarves' doubt, Bilbo stood, heading towards the hallway. "If you'll excuse me for a moment, I am going to -" His toes snagged on something, perhaps a hole in the carpet, and he stumbled, a hand darting out to steady himself upon Gandalf, who happened to be the nearest solid object.
"Oh, terribly sorry, Gandalf," apologised Bilbo, looking quite a bit less flustered than one might expect. "As I was saying, I am going to fetch a light. I will return in a moment."
"Excellent idea," replied Gandalf, peering down at Bilbo. The dwarves may not have found his stumble suspicious, but the wizard was well aware of the surefootedness of hobbits and suspected Bilbo to be up to something, which, of course, he was.
At fifty, Bilbo Baggins had been polite to a fault and wholly inexperienced in theft. However, having lived over a hundred and thirty years before his death, he now considered himself a fairly seasoned burglar and quite disliked being doubted or mocked. So when he saw the opportunity to prove himself, he took it, and by the time he returned with a lamp, Gandalf was rifling through his pockets in search of a map he was certain he had had on his person.
Bilbo placed the lamp on the table and tilted his head curiously at the wizard, struggling to conceal a grin. "Is there something wrong, Gandalf?"
Gandalf's shrewd eyes snapped to him, and he gazed intently for a moment or two before explaining, "I seem to have lost a rather important map. You wouldn't happen to have any idea of its whereabouts, would you?"
"Not the foggiest clue," Bilbo replied, sticking his hands in his pockets. "Oh - wait, what is this?" With a - perhaps unnecessary - theatrical flourish, he withdrew the map from his waistcoat, holding it up. "Well, it appears it's right here in my pocket. How odd." He dropped it onto the table in front of Gandalf, his grin breaking through his attempted poker face.
Gandalf stared at the map for a few seconds, then chuckled loudly and suddenly, patting Bilbo on the back. "Very impressive, my friend."
Bilbo laughed and went to sit back down, not noticing the suspicious look Gandalf shot him behind his back.
"Now, then," the wizard began, spreading the map out on the table. "This was made by Thror, your grandfather, Thorin. It is a plan of the Mountain."
Thorin glanced at it, then shook his head, disappointed. "I don't see how this will help us much. I remember the Mountain well enough, and the lands about it. And I know where Mirkwood is, and the Withered Heath where the great dragons bred."
"There is a dragon marked in red on the Mountain," put in Balin. "But it will be easy enough to find him without that, if ever we arrive there."
"Unfortunately so," Bilbo murmured to himself, his shoulders curling a little inwards.
"There is one thing you haven't noticed, and that is the secret entrance," pointed out Gandalf. "You see that rune on the west side, and the hand pointing to it from the other runes? That marks a hidden passage to the Lower Halls."
"It may have been secret once," Thorin countered, "but how do we know it remains so? Old Smaug has lived there long enough now to find out anything there is to know about those caves."
"He may, but he can't have ever used it. It is far too small for him - 'five feet high the door and three may walk abreast' say the runes, and Smaug couldn't have crept into a hole that size even when he was a young dragon, let alone now, after devouring so many of the dwarves and the men of Dale. In any case, the door should be closed and hidden, made to look exactly like the side of the mountain, and therefore kept secret from the rest of the world, if not from Smaug."
Bilbo leant closer to get a proper look at the map, which he had not seen for decades. The Mountain drawn in dark ink on the paper seemed a lot smaller than the Mountain of his memories.
"Also," Gandalf went on, "I forgot to mention that with the map came a key, a small and curious key. Here it is!" He presented it to Thorin, a key with a long barrel and intricate wards, flashing silver in the lamplight. "Keep it safe!"
"Indeed I will," replied Thorin, taking the key and fastening it upon the fine gold chain that hung around his neck. "Now things begin to look more hopeful. This news alters them much for the better. So far we have had no clear idea of what to do. We thought of going east, as quiet and careful as we could, as far as the Long Lake -"
Bilbo had heard Thorin's ramblings before, of course, and if this was an ordinary meeting with friends, he would have tuned him out. However, he was acutely aware of just how precious his time here was - every second with Thorin and Fili and Kili alive, every second with the others smiling and in good cheer, every second unburdened by deep, heavy grief - so he listened quietly to the voice he'd spent so many years missing.
"- but we none of us liked the idea of the Front Gate. The river runs right out of it through the great cliff at the south of the Mountain, and out of it comes the dragon too - far too often, unless he has changed his habits."
"That would be no good," added Gandalf. "Not without a mighty warrior, even a hero. I tried to find one, but warriors are busy fighting one another in distant lands, and in this neighbourhood, heroes are scarce, or simply not to be found. Swords in these parts are mostly blunt, axes are used for trees, and shields as cradles or dish-covers; dragons are comfortably far-off, and therefore legendary. That is why I settled on burglary - especially when I remembered the existence of a side-door. And here is our little Bilbo Baggins, the burglar, the chosen and selected burglar. So now let's get on and make some plans."
"Very well, then," agreed Thorin. "Supposing the burglar gives us some ideas or suggestions." He turned to Bilbo with mock politeness, although it was a bit less mocking than it had been the first time around.
Bilbo drew himself up, meeting Thorin's gaze with a determined look. He was the only one there who knew what was in store, and over the course of the night, he had come to the decision that he meant to bring them all through the journey and out the other side alive and more or less intact, if at all possible. "Certainly, Thorin," he answered briskly. "I should think that we ought to focus on actually getting there and finding the side-door before we worry about dealing with much else. I take it there is quite a lot of treasure?" he added, although he already knew.
Thorin nodded. "Yes, halls upon halls of it."
"It will be impossible for me to move it all by myself. I will be able to perhaps steal one or two pieces before the dragon notices us, so I would suggest you give some thought as to which pieces you should like." A large white gem glimmered in his mind again before he pushed the image away and forged on, ignoring the echoes of dread. "I would also suggest -" His voice trembled, and he cleared his throat, trying to keep his words steady. "I would also suggest that we take a moment to consider the possibility of things such as dragon-sickness, and how it may be overcome once the Mountain is in our possession."
"Sage advice," said Gandalf approvingly, filing away his suspicion to deal with later and patting Bilbo on the shoulder.
Bilbo threw him a quick smile, though he was unable to hide the hint of tiredness to it. He found that he didn't particularly want to speak of their journey anymore, not with the knowledge of what was to come weighing on him, heavy as a sack of dragon-guarded gold.
"And, well, don't you know, I think we have talked long enough for one night, if you see what I mean. What about bed, and an early start, and all that? I would appreciate some help with breakfast tomorrow, if anyone would be so kind."
"You're the host, are you not?" replied Thorin, raising a dark, heavy brow. "But I agree about bed and breakfast. I like six eggs with my ham when starting on a journey - fried, not poached, and mind you don't break 'em."
Bilbo crossed his arms, staring at the dwarf expectantly, until Thorin reluctantly added, "Please."
Bilbo nodded and grabbed a small notebook that had been laying on the mantlepiece, quickly jotting down Thorin's preferred breakfast. "Anyone else?"
The dwarves and Gandalf all ordered their breakfasts, and Bilbo managed to get a 'please' from every one of them. Afterwards, he had to find places for all of them to sleep, which was thankfully a much shorter affair than last time, as he had his previous experiences to go by. He did have to dig extra blankets out of the linen cupboard, and set several dwarves and Gandalf (who was much too tall for his spare beds) up on couches and chairs, but he eventually got them all stowed away and retired to his own little bed. The shock of finding himself back in the past, along with having to host thirteen dwarves and a wizard, had left him rather exhausted, despite the renewed strength of his younger body. Before he collapsed into bed, he remembered to leave a sliver of his curtains unclosed, so that he would be awoken by the rays of dawn.
He fell asleep to the sound of Thorin's humming from the bedroom next to his, and this time, it was comforting.

for your wip ask gane you know I have to ask abt tangled!
Tangled!! I had SO much fun reading the Rapunzel works for our fairy tale series with the book club recently, because I was constantly thinking either "oh I was thinking it could be *this*" or, "that's a great idea!" 😅 I updated my wip doc on that one a few times that week! I developed the idea to submit as an option in our rather doomed Writing Round Robin project last year, but it was just too vibrant and complete to totally set aside!
Belladonna Baggins craves adventure, so much so she simply must go on one last jaunt before she and Bungo settle down and start their family. Alone in the wilds, she encounters a battle between desperate orcs and fierce dwarrow. One of the orcs drops a glittering stone that Belladonna snatches up without even thinking. When an orc then swings its blade at her chest, it strikes the stone and an explosion of light sends them all flying. When she wakes, all the orc and dwarrow are seemingly dead and she steals away alone, thankful to be done with her last adventure. When her darling Bilbo is born seven months later with full, silvery hair that sparkles like a gem, she knows that he's been chosen for a fate far grander than any Hobbit before, and she despairs. Stolen from his family as a young faunt but raised thinking he was given over to be a ward in "protective custody" to the imposing wizard Saruman, Bilbo lives alone in the tall White Tower of Elostirion with only a sentient stone golem named Pal to care for him. Located deep in the wilds of Westmarch, the White Towers stand on the Tower Hills overlooking the Shire below, where Bilbo longs to go and see the villages that sparkle in the distance, and especially to see the explosions of color and light that occur on a particular day every autumn.
Despite his isolation and the cold nature of the wizard, Bilbo grows to be loving and kind, though desperately starved for affection. He is never allowed to cut his beautiful hair which glows like moonlight, silver and luminous, glinting with all the colors of the rainbow. His hair possesses strange powers which the wizard covets jealously and studies intensively on his regular visits. With only his many books and his faithful stone guardian to keep him company, Bilbo dreams of adventure and the outside world, though he's been raised to believe that the world is dangerous and all races would want to possess his magic hair, to his ruin.
One day a dwarrow Prince scales his tower and Bilbo promptly knocks him out with a frying pan, before making a tentative truce and accepting his aid to escape. Bilbo learns to embrace the world outside his tower and the motley crew of dwarrow who follow Thorin Oakenshield, exiled Prince of the distant kingdom of Erebor, which is under a terrible curse since the loss of the Arkenstone. A prophecy predicted that the curse would be broken when the bearer of the mountain's heart was brought to her gates, and so Thorin has vowed not to return without the stone. Plus, his grandfather has tried to have them all assassinated so really it's better not to go back until things can be settled. Thorin, his widowed sister and her sons, and a loyal following have settled in Ered Luin while Thorin sets out on his quest. His father and brother remained in Erebor in an effort to temper the actions of her mad king. Bonus: Thorin tries to braid Bilbo's ridiculous amount of hair but it's so much that he has to have Fili and Kili help him. He ends up lending Bilbo a sky blue hood with a silver tassel to keep his hair under wraps while they're out and about. The dwarves all lose their mind a little over so much sparkly beautiful hair the color of living mithril, but when it's eventually lost they see it as a battle scar and respect him even more. Erebor Never Fell, No One Ring AU cause we ain't got time for dragons or cursed rings, we have hair to braid!

EEEEYYY! Guess who started playing LOTRO? Yours truly! This will be my first ever MMORPG, isn't that exciting?
I wasted no time making my hobbit OC Aster Coltsfoot my player character. Isn't she cute? Look, I gave her a huge hat!
Additional in-game backstory under the cut!
I know the timing is somewhat off, but I like to think she went into the starting quest on the way back from her adventure of going to Rivendell to return Bilbo his Mithril coat. She got a taste for adventures after it - as I've noticed tends to happen to Hobbits once they actually try the thing out.
She was captured by Blackwold brigands near Archet and saved by Amdír, but he was wounded by a morgul blade in the process. They dragged themselves to Archet, so he could recover, and soon, after sending a letter, Strider showed up to help.
The Rangers kept calling her a Guardian, until eventually she had to clarify that she wasn't a warrior class, just the Guardian of the mathoms, the one responsible for the Mathom-House.
Amdír apologized, between laughing about his own misunderstanding, weak as he was. However, Aster decided that, since she was gonna travel more, she thought it couldn't hurt to at least learn how to defend herself.
Only after the massacre in Archet did she decide to learn how to properly wield a sword. She would never again let a friend perish in front of her.

"The Husk" terminal of Jormara 25x35
In the north of Jormerun... in fact in the north at all, at the antipodes of all civilization, at the end of the world, you'll find the Jormara ice pack. A wild, inhospitable desert of ice. An expanse of shifting, all-consuming, ever-changing pack ice. Instead of fine sand dunes, you'll find titanic icebergs frozen in time or floating in deathly calm along the shores of this sea of ice.
In this labyrinth of frozen teeth and fangs, you'll sometimes catch a glimpse of great black columns silhouetted against the blizzard. These gigantic peaks of basalt rock are Jormara's only fixed points, the summits of lost mountains. Dating back to a time when civilizations and men still slept the benevolent sleep that preceded their birth. The banished gods is the name given by the few inhabitants of this white hell to the mountains that rip through the depths of this frozen ocean.
If your eyes see one of these black towers emerge, after weeks of travel in the blind blizzard, you'll be able to contemplate the flickering, fragile glow of hundreds of torches on all sides of the peak, staking out the body and entrails of the rock. If you get any closer, you'll be able to hear the song of these gods, a symphony of clatters and sharp blows. The pickaxes of dozens of miners echoing in the wind.
That's why there's life here, barely surviving, eating the snow and chasing all forms of heat so as not to die out. The treasure of the dead gods, the heritage of an entire people, glory and wealth for deserters and adventurers. Mithril.
Veins of mithril almost outcropping! Mines so abundant and rich that sometimes you only have to stoop to pick it up. This is the honey that attracts bees of all races and all countries to this great chase: the mithril hunt of the Jormara ice floe.
That's where you set off, hoping with all your soul not to end up like all those pioneers, frozen for eternity on their knees in the middle of nothing, frozen with their hope and their life's fortune packed in their bag.
After two months by boat, you arrive at the furthest point from inhabited land. Zigzagging between icebergs that have become mountains, you can't go any further. You're at the gates of Jormara, one of the departure camps for the Great Devourer.
Welcome to the Husk, home to 3 and a half people and a few sled dogs.
On the menu for the year: fish in fish fat, all cooked in melted ice.
It's best to book your bed in advance if you don't want to brave the polar night and enrich the next day's ordinary.
Make the most of the fire fed by the remains of ships that weren't lucky enough to arrive, like yours, in one piece.
As you watch your nave sail away into the dawn, you'll realize that you are now a resident of Jormara. Your wealth, perhaps, your prison, surely, and your grave, no doubt.
-Sileas Kel Pionner of Jormara

Just to See You Happy
Rating: T
Warnings: Creator Chose Not to Use Warnings (to Hide Spoilers)
Status: In-progress (6/?)
Tags: Time Travel Fix-It | Family Feels | Adopted Sibling Relationship | Quest of Erebor | Meddling Valar | Unreliable Narrator Bilbo Baggins | Bookverse is basically a lie | Flashbacks to Bilbo raising Frodo
Summary: Frodo has carried the Ring and deserves as much rest as any mortal can bear. He refuses to see his mission as complete until Bilbo finds his happiness. When Valinor does not hold the answer he needs, he launches himself into the past into an adventure that doesn’t belong to him all in the hope of finding Bilbo’s happiness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New Chapter: Chapter 5- Before Tragedy Strikes
Bilbo just crooked his finger in an indication that Frodo should follow him. Being quieter than the dwarves by a long shot, they snuck away with none the wiser where Bilbo could point out what it was that grabbed his attention. A light just beyond the trees.
“I’ll show him burglar. ” Bilbo stated. “And after this, the company will get off my back about the other night.”
Frodo felt his heart hammering in his chest. He knew exactly what they were getting into. Trolls. And he wasn’t sure he was quite ready to deal with them. The last time he had gone up against a mountain troll, he had nearly been stabbed through, and it wasn’t like he had any mithril this time around to save him. At least these can talk, he supposed as he stayed right behind Bilbo. Whether that was better or worse, he was quite certain he was about to find out.
They exited the trees and came upon a clearing that had Frodo stopping in his tracks. The trolls. They were right there. Only…they were already stone! Frodo’s mind raced as he tried to figure out how the trolls had turned to stone before they got there. Had he somehow delayed the company? Was this what Gandalf snuck away to deal with? Who were they sneaking up on if it wasn’t the trolls?
Bilbo must have realized Frodo was no longer following him as he doubled back and stared at him worriedly.
“What’s wrong?” He demanded.
“The trolls!” Frodo hissed. “They’re stone.”
Bilbo looked around them before shaking his head. “Why do you think they call this the Trollshaws?”
“Well yes, but…”
“They’re not going to bother you. Now let’s move!”
Frodo carefully picked his way after Bilbo, a small part of him afraid that the trolls were just going to find their way back to life somehow. This wasn’t making any sense at all! Just what exactly were they getting into?
Winter 2024- What I Finished
So as this anime season is coming to an end. Here are the shows I actually kept up with and overall enjoyed immensely.
There will be spoilers so be warned lol
The Unwanted Undead Adventurer
I have enjoyed this series, the way Rentt is so determined to become a mithril-class adventurer even as an undead. The 3D models for the fight scenes move pretty well with the background matching them, especially in episode 9. This series is a slow-burn, even with the story progression, but I appreciate it because we see so much character growth for Rentt and how he interacts with the people and his friends. The music is fairly average for the series, but it does have some good moments especially when Rentt is in thought or making a choice. I loved coming full circle and him regaining his "human" features even though he still is very much a vampire now. Shun Narita, the composer for the series had some standout moments (fight scenes and contemplativeness) of music throughout the season so hats off to him.
The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic
I fell in love with the humor of this series from the get-go and not a single episode is a disappointment. It is so full of life and this past week for episode 11, the line " Now that's the wrong way to use healing magic" was used in a perfect moment. The lead up of Usato's characters growth and seeing all his hard work and "torture" from Commander Rose's training *actually* matter was brilliant. Element Garden has done a great job with the music that just gets your blood pumping. Probably will make a separate post for this series once it's over.
A Sign of Affection
The shoujo everyone is talking about, FOR GOOD REASON. To see the romance between the leads develop was so satisfying and wholesome. The development of the side characters so far is handled well, and at times the flashbacks scenes take over an episode but they are necessary. The art style and the use of lighting are done so well. It was a very cute show and always will love seeing an adult romance.
Solo Leveling
What can I say that hasn't been said already? I started reading the manwha in 2019 and have reread many times since. Hiroyuki Sawano was a great choice and the soundtrack WILL be on loop once it's released fully. Smart pacing choices to have it end with him gaining a job, this week will be a blast of an episode. Wish it had been slotted for 24 episodes... The last two episodes KILLED it, the animation, the music?! I was on cloud nine.
Mr. Villains Day Off
A perfect wholesome background anime, that is just about a Villian who loves pandas on his days off. The episodes where they focus on the Rangers aren't super interesting and makes you question the ethics of the world? It's a very cute show and sometimes, it's just a need in life. Ending was split between resolving the previous episode and the lead up to the Rangers and the Villian's battle.
Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord
The Isekai'd into an Otome game genre is SO saturated but somehow I ended up loving this show. Yumielle is so autistic coded and straightforward, no one quite knows how to react to her. Patrick is head over heels for her, not that she ever notices, and they're dynamic is adorable. I have laughed watching this show and the only reincarnation anime that didn't bog me down with guessable plot.
Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!
I fell so hard for this anime that I binge read the manga...who's art is definitely butchered in the adaption, it's so wholesome but the way episode 11 ends off MY GOD the miscommunication hurts me, and people will definitely riot watching the finale...and then picking up the manga to suffer for 40 chapters...BUT it's worth it. Tsubasa and Fuyuki all the way, they're chemistry is the best in the show as they each influence each other to open up, to be serious about the future and to help themselves grow as people. So sad to see this show go but maybe we'll get another season?
Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!
This anime has me kicking my feet in joy and makes me miss my long-distance partner so fucking much. When Kurosawa and Adachi kissed? I was whooping in happiness. Adachi has a lot of room to grow with his communication with Kurosawa but pretty sure the final manga cover is a wedding outfit? My poor notes app I use to write my thoughts/observations as I watch seasonal anime is " SO GAY. KISS PLEASE." for several episodes between them. I loved that the end credits was the wedding but I can't wait to read the manga to compare it!
Gushing Over Magical Girls
I'm not one to watch ecchi shows but this, THIS is just such a delight to watch. Utena is such a loveable protagonist, a magical girl loving person who gets turned into a villain and has to "fight" the girls she loves. By fighting its not LMAO. I adore all the characters in this show and how fresh the writing for them is. Its beautifully animated and the finale was so much fun to watch!
Mashle S2 - Divine Visionary Arc
I picked up the first volume at the bookstore halfway through the season to try reading, after Bling-Bang-Bang-Born blew up, and I was not disappointed. Binged Season 1 and caught up in a day. There's just something so satisfying with gag humor and shounen fight scenes. I love everyone (besides for Innocent Zero, fuck that guy) and will for sure be binge reading the manga. The music, as always, is so hype and having rap for the fight scenes is very interesting. The soundtrack for S2 just released yesterday and has some amazing tracks on it.
Shangria-La Frontier
What. An. Amazing. Show. Never thought I'd like a VR Gaming anime as much as I do now, but this was just so vibrant and humorous. Sunraku's tenacity at gaming and taking on challenges, plus my love for rogue/assassin builds from DND, made him such a likeable character. The entire Weathermon fight to be slotted for 4 episodes was just..gorgeous and stunning. The Music?!? God its perfection. The NPC's of Rabitzu... to have characters and just to not be weird was very much appreciated to me. I sincerely wish it had the fandom that other Fall 2023 shows, cough cough Frieren, Undead Unluck and Apothecary Diaries, has because I just want more merch sobs. The cosplans I have for this show? Too many, and its already in production for another 2 cour season for this fall!!
The Apothecary Diaries
What a spectacular show and fabulous 24 episodes. The animation, the music (Satoru Kosaki, Kevin Pinken, Alisa Okehazma), the characters, the backgrounds?! I enjoyed watching the characters interact and loved the humor in the animation. I also just read and caught up with the manga in 2 days...so it's that good and a worthwhile watch and read!
Decided to keep a record of all the illegal things the Bad Kids get up to in S1, and at the time were they get arrested they have managed to:
Kill Doreen (self defense yeah but still)
Spy on the police
Steal personal possessions from Johnny Spells
Cause a massive highway accident
Kill Johnny Spells and half a dozen greasers
Steal even more possessions from Johnny Spells
Impersonate Johnny Spells (is that illegal? Idk)
Bribe a bouncer and pretend to be of legal age
Drink and do drugs underage courtesy of Bill Seacaster
Break into Zayn Darkshadow’s apartment
Tamper with a crime scene
Trespass onto private property (the Mithril factory)
Impersonate a doctor
Perform surgery without a medical license
Steal liquor, lube, and condoms from a hospital
Murder a fellow student (they revive him but still)
Kill their PE coach
More underage drinking
Steal Gilear’s car
Kill another fellow student (they do also revive him)
Torture and maim recently revived fellow student
Steal merchandise from an arcade.
In summary: the Bad Kids earned their title and the modern world is not suited well to adventuring.
thinking about winter and yule time in middle earth. of thick snows in the softest of lands, covering the small round hills and the fields - once plentiful crops wilted and buried by a covering of ice. a bright tree lit by carefully placed candles - a tribute to the stars that shine in frozen winter skies. cozy moments inside busy homes, families gathered to hear haunting tales of winters' gone by. of creatures of darkness and light, of horrors unseen and far, far away from the warmth of that simmers softly within their hearts. in lindon the trees do not fade, their glow permeating even the coldest and most ancient fea of the that dwell there. there are long dark nights and songs to be sung of ancient battles and times of peace. of beren and luthien and their love. children bourne not in this time of war and uncertainty cling to their parents in the hope of something more certain - galadriel plucks mistletoe branches from frosted bushels and weaves the purest of the white berries amongst the golden and silver lengths of her hair. she aches for a simpler time and longs for something more than what she feels locked tightly within the complexities her fractured heart. beneath great mountains, feasts are prepared. firefly lanterns glow at every place available for them to be hung and music fills the warm spiced air. elrond and durin raise a quiet toast to his father and hope is found here within the very darkest place, where shards of mithril glimmer and dance within the pitch. where disa tucks her children into their warm, safe beds and their father and his oldest friend sing ballads of adventures and remembrances of times gone by. there is quiet here for a moment, a quiet that comes when love is all that matters and young ones sleep softly unburdened by what exists beyond their gentle understanding. somewhere in the wasteland, where east and west meet and bear their fangs there is only death - and yet the purest of white snow still falls and settles beneath filthy boots and bloodied, ragged voices that cry out into the night to mourn their losses. evil is not held at bay, but it pauses to remember the light of the valar that surges from above - the greatest northern star in the sky flickering brightly and recklessly against the vast emptiness that surrounds it. for there is a bright glory that burns at the heart of it all. a hope so pure it can never be extinguished by fear. it can only grow and chase the last of the darkness back into the shadows.
