Big spoiler ahead! WARNING!
Is it just me or is anyone else reminded of Julius from Final Fantasy Adventure when fighting Daelophos?
I mean look:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My first thought was: that feels/looks familiar! Also the same fight location. Just a different outcome in regards of human sacrifices...

We did it! We beat the game! Of course, stupid me managed to not realize that, by just hitting Continue, I was back in Chapter 9 because an Autosave isn't made when you beat the final boss and Continue just loads your last Autosave (I always just assumed it Autosaved after every save and that's why it always loaded an Autosave). You have to hit LOAD and just go to the clear file you made.
Meaning...don't do what I do because I am an idiot! Especially since my second go-around with the final boss was a lot less clean since I was just trying to rush and get back to where I was. Not like I got any EXP to do worse at.
But Mana games are always good at one thing and this one's no exception...
...and that's make me cry at some point during the ending! Secret of Mana was the first game ending I really lost it and and it's continued to this day!
No, really. I started feeling my eyes get wet when Eoren and Lyza's corestones appeared, began crying when Hinna's spirit came to bolster Val's confidence, absolutely LOST IT when Cerulia showed up to calm Daelophos (she waited so many centuries for him to lose his rage and return to her), and the postgame scene where Val passes on from old age and finally reunites with Hinna (who also waited decades to reincarnate so she could be with him in the next life)...forget it! I was a mess!
I almost forgot that I'd laughed at Daelophos' level of 66 (one 6 away from the Number of the Beast...fitting) because all the emotion of the ending was overcoming me.
But anyway, once I got back to where I was, I did some maintenance. Sold all my Corestones and was able to afford Careena and Morley's Ability Seed Enhancements. Gonna be saving up for Val's next as they're my main 3. Slot 10 is now reserved for one Status Protection seed, swapped around based on need, since I've got the slots now.
And I got everyone's Elemental Plots fully unlocked. They've maxxed out their base class and got a few more useful spells. Might play with putting people in their original classes with the bonuses once I know how to get that working.
But I also leave you with this, because it also made me overcome with emotion. I love you, Lil' Cactus! So precious!

A long one today. I pushed forward as best as I could, fighting my way until I made it to the very end. Meaning...I've made it to Chapter 9 and the final fight. Though, taking a break before I actually got to the fight...
Once I did the fight at the end of Chapter 7 and got the broken Mana Sword, I went to finish off the cookie/incense I just popped and find Lil' Cactus since I'd looked as to where he was located after seeing just how many I missed during actual walkthroughs. Which got me through the first two areas and such. Though I ran through them again once I came back since I wanted to do Khoda's sidequest as I figured it was where Val's special shortsword was. And while checking Niccolo, I got the katana I was missing for Morley. So that's all of the weapons...and the armor was all around the Distorted Sanctuary.
And it seems to be a hilarious tradition for Alms to play matchmaker for people in their convoy. Aesh's sidequest with books have him subtly push Palamena towards Morley (I love that even he realizes how hilarious it is that his social ineptitude can figure it out when neither Palamena nor Morley have). And since the first few areas of the Distorted Sanctuary show echoes of past convoys, the Alm of Earth from probably eight years ago was pushing Lyza to go back to Gudju since he realized Eoren liked her! Dawwwwwwww...even if their romance ended on a tragic note, this is stupidly cute!
Also, Daelophos! Your rants about how shitty it is that Alms are sacrificing themselves for the world would have more weight if A) this was something the Goddess and her servants delight in how things have to be and B) it wasn't your damn fault that Mana is in the state it is that causes said sacrifices!
Anyway, next time I play, I might go and get the exp for one more level since I'm being pedantic about level #s. Not due to difficulty, but just level #s...

It works like a 100% Guaranteed Broken Lines (well...Kevin's combo length pretty much made Broken Lines III free)! OF COURSE I decided to get cheeky!
By this I mean I took on the first three of the Ancient Ruins and won. I'll do the one in Fallowe Steppe next time as I also got some plot done along the way.
So by the above, you can guess I finished Morley's Character Quest. As if Nightblade wasn't already stupidly OP with its crits! Now I reduce Defense when I do so! There was also some better Corestone Trade-in Ability Seeds since I finally realized Christine also did the trading so I didn't have to wait until reaching Illystana in this backtrack session. Got the Achievement for that as well.
I did love how Morley's quest ends with him getting one last chance to speak to his mother. Poor guy really needed that after blaming himself for what happened to her since he was a kid. Also, happy the game answered the question of "how did a child goofing around manage to cause that much damage?" Though...who sabotaged the hourglass? This was well before Eoren would have had any reason to make any bit of trouble, while Daelophos was still sealed. Unless he stole the missing core prior to being sealed and Etearn just didn't notice this for so long...

Ha! Take that, ya big blue bastard! No Damage Bonus!
No, I don't know HOW I managed that against Besseroth! Who is my first of the five Chapter 7 Benevodons if I start from the beginning and walk forward.
I'm liking how they're doing the beasts in this game. They already separated them into a 3/5 combo with a chapter between the two sets. The first three had no real direct connection to the homes of any of the main characters and the ones here do. But even with that, they're all important. The ones in Chapter 5 finish the tragic story of Eoren and Lyza while giving some stakes and showing Daelophos' threat, then Dark and Light relate to how the final Alms are chosen. And if the rest of the Chapter 7s are anything like Besseroth, they'll be character building quests for each of the PCs. So...plot and not just a hunt.
Next time I'm gonna do some sidequesting for a few people in Longren that I put off in case I got their monster kills in the Wind Sanctuary, then head onward grabbing missed Lil' Cactus sightings and Elementite.

Even with the stuff going on, I was able to reach the skies! Oh, like we didn't know we were going to get to fly on a Sacred Beast...it was in the trailers!
...the only question was to answer whether or not Ramcoh would grow up. In reality, she's just being in a tiny body to save energy so she grows up so we can fly on Flammie and that she can still help us in battle.
Anyhow, Val being declared Alm of Light wasn't on my Bingo Board. Daelophos losing Cerulia being the cause of his rampage...yes. But not Val becoming an Alm. Explains while there was no named person in all of the acting troupe despite actors being the usual Alm.
Oh, and if Val looks like Sumo, Khoda looks like Randi. I mean, neither is 100%, but I get the feel.
So now we've finished up the remainder of Chapter 5 and all of the much shorter Chapter 6 (not as short as Chapter 3, though). Though I find it funny that the Steam Achievement for beating Chapter 6 is currently less than the one for flying on Flammie...the first thing you do in Chapter 7!
Next time, we're starting on a backtracking session now that we've got Flammie for easy transferrence between continents. Of course, with Benevodons on the loose, I'll just start at the beginning of a continent and then kill the Benevodons that I come across along the way.

So I got delayed a bit finding the missing Ability Seed Expansion for Careena. Did get to start the next dungeon but saved before a boss. Mostly since I don't know if it is the only boss and/or if there'll be long scenes after. Thankfully, despite Tuesday being my day to be out of the house and not play, I've an early day so I can play a bit.
(prattle on a bit about the Lorimar scenario)
They...really did get a fairly accurate Daelophos costume for their actor. Considering we met the dude in person. Also, since it's obvious he lost Cerulia and it's most likely the reason for his rage, I wonder if they'll go into the parallels between the two of them with Val losing Hinna.
Again...never answer my questions! I like to look back on my thoughts and see how right I am later on!
Love how they didn't name any of the major actors. Whomever becomes the Alm of Light is really going to be unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. From Gudju through to the end of Chapter 4...
By the above, I mean both Gnome being harassed by Jewel Eater (and harassed in general by bosses) and Dryad being harassed by Grapplevine. Also, Julei being very fatalistic about a bad situation is fitting considering how Dryad gets in multiple games!
And if I had gone in completely blind not reading promos, they'd spoil Julei being a party member before he joins because you get his Elemental Plot Advancement item just beforehand!
I know I've missed chests, but Careena is the only person who hasn't gotten her Ability Seed boost!
So...called it on Eoren's actions bringing back our "Legendary Hero." And he's just as much a dick as I thought from first looking at him! No, it will take me a million years to spell Daelophos right without having to look it up...dammit team! Of course, now we need to find why he's got beef with the goddess and what this might have to do with the shitshow that became the ancient world.
