I have the MOTHER 3 guidebook, the enemy index is my favorite part; it’s in Japanese though, but I like the pictures of the enemies. The Muttshroom is my favorite btw.
Am I the only person who really likes video game bestiaries?
They make it so that all the enemies you fight have at least tiny shreds of lore associated with them; they turn the endless procession of fodder mobs from basic-gameplay-loop contrivances into notional parts of a world where stuff is going on, and they provide springboards for imagination and daydreaming. A couple of sentences can turn a collection of palette-swapped pixels with an annoying attack pattern into something that sticks in your thoughts.
I miss bestiaries.

My personal guide for Nintendogs :3
!DISCLAIMER!
most of this info is what i've learned either through trial and error, or from reading on the nintendogs fandom wiki
i do not use cheats/sd modifiers, but i do make use of exploits/glitches that are non-harmful to the game and system
the purpose of this guide is to make the game more fun and a bit less grindy, especially if someone is either new to the game, or is returning after not playing for years
enjoy!
BASICS
nintendogs is a nintendo DS game that comes in 4 versions: dalmatian, dachshund, labrador and chihuahua
they do also work on the nintendo 3DS and DSI, including the XL versions
they only support one save file, like most DS/3DS games
if you ever want to start your save over, press and hold the buttons L, R, A, B, Y, X when the white screen appears on opening the game- you have to press them all at the same time, and it will not work if the game loads before you hold them all down
GENERAL
the whole point of the game is that you have your own puppies of various breeds, and you must take care of them
the game runs on real time, so if you finish your daily tasks at 3 in the afternoon, you will have to do them again on or after 3 in the afternoon the next day (this applies mainly to contests)
contests are your primary way of making money (but we'll get to them in a minute), which you have to manage carefully else you'll run out of money for food and water for your pups- and they have to eat and drink multiple times a day
you start by picking one puppy from a selection of six breeds at the start of the game, each with three appearances, all can be male or female, and there are multiple personalities that a puppy can have
the personalities mostly affect how easy they are to train and how they interact with other dogs/NPCs
there is a complete list of personalities on the nintendogs fandom wiki, but my personal preference for all of my dogs is "This male/female boasts an excellent temperament. He/She's patient and will grow very attached to his/her trainer"
if you want a specific appearance, gender, or personality, you can click the dog breed you want, check those things on each dog's icon, then reload by going back to the breed select screen and checking again (you can do this as many times as you want, but it may take a while to find a dog with all three traits you want)
DOG FEATURES
each dog breed will be a different price, but you only have to worry about 6 prices as a beginner, as only 6 breeds are unlocked from the start
as you earn trainer points, more breeds will unlock (more on that in a minute)
you can have three dogs in your home at once, but also 5 more in the dog hotel
TUTORIAL
once you've picked your dog you should start the tutorial
the microphone plays a big part in the game, which will be shown here
you have to teach the dog its name, then its first trick by using the microphone
personal tips are: turn off background noise by muting anything you're listening to such as a tv or laptop
hold the DS/3DS at the same distance until the training is complete
and repeat the word with the same tone and pronounciation each time as the DS microphone kinda sucks and that means it's highly sensitive to certain words sounding different even though its the same word
when the tutorial says to call the pups name and praise them repeatedly, don't listen- instead, call the name over and over again until the screen fades to white and the next prompt comes up, and don't interact with the dog until this has happened
now just follow the tutorial to teach the first trick and then you're in the game
TRICK TRAINING
tricks
there are over 20 tricks in the game, but most of them aren't obvious
in your care inventory, there will be a couple books that will have some trick instructions in them, but they don't show them all
i recommend looking at the fandom wiki for a complete list and instructions
when teaching tricks, each dog can only learn three per day
however, if you decided to delete one for the purpose of naming it something else, you can learn the same one again on the same day and give it a different name
tricks are easiest taught with just one dog in the room, so if you have more than one, put the ones you're not teaching in the dog hotel until you're done
training does not stop once the trick is learnt
after the dog has learnt the trick, you should practice regularly, especially if you want to do obedience competitions
the more you practice, the quicker they'll perform, and the longer they will hold each trick
just make sure you're practicing via voice command if the trick is known, and not gestures
gestures should only be used when initially teaching a trick
COMPETITIONS
competitions
each individual dog can enter three competitions every 24 hours
so if you have three dogs that means 9 daily competitions, even though the game makes you believe its three across them all
these are your main way of making money in-game
obedience involves using voice commands to perform tricks, and having the participating dog have a clean coat
agility has you use the stylus to guide the dog through an obstacle course
and disc uses the stylus to throw a flying disc certain distances for points
my personal obedience training method is: max tricks learnt per day using the dog hotel to store extra 1-2 dogs, and using treats and petting to reinforce good performance; then rehearse each trick until they can be held for 5 seconds. try and add 2 more seconds to each trick per day/training session
my personal agility training method is: make your first walk include the gym if you can (orange-yellow large building on map) and stay there until the game forces you back onto the walk. focus on one obstacle type at a time until you are getting consistent 'excellents' with the odd 'good' and no 'misses'; the reason to stay until you're kicked out for the first visit is that it will give your dog a speed boost way above the first agility competition needs, and also the extra time on the simple obstacles means you won't have to focus on them as much when new obstacles are introduced. repeat process for each new obstacle, though you don't have to stay as long after the first visit
my personal disc training method is: don't practice in the house, instead go to the park, but only if there are no dog symbols in it. then start out with short distance throws until you have no missed catches and reward with treats and pettings; slowly increase the throwing distance as the dog's speed increases (agility courses make a good side-gig as that will increase speed quite quickly, which is useful for disc). mostly just try and remember not to throw farther than your dog can run
personal tip for all competitions: save before you start them, and turn the whole system off if it looks like you're gonna lose- when you reboot you can try from the beginning again
DOG CARE
the main things you need to do in the game are feed, water, pet, wash, and walk your puppy
their hunger, thirst and cleanliness status can be checked by tapping their name bars on the main screen to check their info card
food and water comes in increasingly more expensive varieties, though upgrading isn't really necessary from what i can tell- i've always stuck with the original dry food and water bottle and a couple of the more expensive foods and dog drinks as extras/backups
you'll have to give your dogs food and water at least twice a day, once in the morning once in the evening, as well as bathe them once a day
you can bathe dogs with either shampoo or brushes- but make sure to check their info card before buying said items as it will tell you if you need long hair or short hair products
you also only need one brush, no matter how many dogs you have
if you only use shampoo when their cleanliness status is dirty or filthy, you'll save money
if they've got the status 'clean' instead, use the brush
the brush will have some gold sparkles from the beginning, but you'll know you're done when larger more whitish sparkles appear over the length of the dog's body, specifically at the back leg/tail
once done, you should get the message '_ is feeling very good now' and their cleanliness status should say beautiful
WALKS
you can walk your dog however many times a day you want
though you must wait minimum 30 minutes between each time
walking them often will increase their stamina, which will in turn increase the distance you can go
while on walks, the dog may go the bathroom- if they pee, just let them, but if they poop make sure to tap it and pick it up or the NPCs you encounter might yell at you
speaking of, it is possible to encounter NPCs and their dogs while on walks- the humans will give advice or comment on the care of your dog while the two dogs will interact
now, your dog's personality will slightly affect how it goes, but it's mostly up to you
if the other dog is barking or jumping, make sure to pet your dog so it stays mostly lying down
when the other dog lays down, give a sharp tug of the leash in that dog's direction and hope that it goes well
if it does, they will sniff each other
it may take two or more attempts, but as long as they are not chasing each other and pouncing at each other, the interaction has gone well
the best outcome is that they successfully sniff each other two or three times and end up being calm and laying down with each other while cute music plays
other encounters on walks are finding gift boxes or trash piles
gift boxes come in two forms, though they look the same; either they will be any of the blue '?' boxes that you hit on walks (the same ones that the NPC dog encounters are) or they will be hidden encounters on the normal walking line
a good way to tell if there is a hidden gift box is if the walking dog icon on the top screen stops, but your dog keeps walking on the bottom screen
if it does, just tug the leash to the left to stop your dog and it will bring you the present
alternatively, if the icon stops, it could be trash
if it is, tug the leash to the right so your dog keeps walking; you may have to do this a couple times, but just make sure the dog doesn't eat the trash
TRAINER POINTS
trainer points are a partially invisible game system
basically, you earn them just by playing the game but by playing the game 'right' in a sense
if you log in frequently to feed, clean and walk your dogs, you'll earn more points
if you abandon the game for a few days or longer, you lose points
you can earn points by winning competitions, having successful encounters with other dogs and just generally keeping your dogs happy
the only function trainer points serve is unlocking new dog breeds and stuff to buy (which can be a big thing for people who wanna see all the dogs, but it's down here cause it just takes forever to grind the right amounts)
the wiki has a list of all dog breeds and their unlock requirements per game
TIPS N TRICKS
once you finish the tutorial, immediately click 'go out' then 'shopping'; go to the supply store and buy 11 water, 11 dry food, 11 of the shampoo you need, 1 brush you need, both collars and 1 flying disc (this will start you off with enough food and water to have 10 of each left after doing their first feeding, 10 shampoo left plus the brush to save on shampoo costs as mentioned above, enough accessories for something below, and the equipment to train for disc competitions)
personally i like to plug my 3DS charger in and let the game idle while i do other stuff such as schoolwork, and then walk my dogs exactly every 30 minutes as this is the only (as far as i know) way to build up their stamina for walks and will also let you get a lot of disc and agility training in
i would also recommend focusing on agility competitions until you have a good solid income (aka you can consistently win the master and/or championship classes) for 1 contest a day, then focus the other types for your remaining contest entries (remember that you can max out entries to 9 if you have 3 dogs, or 6 if you have 2)
the order of tasks i like to do on a new save is: tutorial> daily trick training> shopping> feed water and wash> first walk & ideally first agility course> feed water and brush> first agility contest> walk and agility train> second agility contest> walk and agility train> third agility contest> buy second dog> repeat process + secret walking trick for extra money (see below)
infinite walking trick: wait until you have two dogs minimum, and if you follow my shopping guide from earlier you should already have two dog accessories, if not just head to the shop and buy the two different collars- take your highest stamina dog and draw a route to the nearest park BUT make sure to hit as many '?' boxes on the way there (don't worry about the way back)- once at the park, change your dog's accessory to trigger auto-save- once done shut down your DS/3DS without closing the game, then turn back on- you should have all/any of the items you found in your inventory but no walk timeout for the dog that you took
i use the above to item farm with my highest stamina dog, while waiting out the timers for regular walks with my other dogs as they build their own stamina higher- just rotate as you go
on walks, the farther away from the house you go, the higher chance you have of finding rare items
also while on walks, you have a chance of finding two items: the lucky collar and the clover/lucky clock- equip the clock and don't change it, even if you don't like it (there's a reason), and make sure that the lucky collar is on the dog that you walk (rotate it between dogs if you're walking multiple)
having the above two items equipped boosts your item chance, and rarity chance which means more cool stuff and more cool stuff to sell
NOTE
this ended up waaaaay longer than i intended, turns out i had a lot to share lol
most of this is me explaining how i play and why i recommend my methods, but ultimately it's down to you how you want to play- what's fun and relaxing for me may be boring or complicated for you, and that's fine
i hope some of this helps new or returning players though, as its taken me like 3 months to figure out most of this (i didnt know the wiki existed until the third month)
if anyone wants more details about any of this, feel free to message me or leave a comment, i am happy to answer :D

so i recently tried to hack my ps2 and after everything i can say it's like, technically easy but the documentation is a godless wasteland compared to n*ntendo systems. one of the major forums has IP banned like half the world including me before i even visited it and most of the text guides are outdated but the more recent ones are 💀 video guides (also frequently outdated)
anyway so my friend and i decided to try to make a couple 3ds.hacks.guide style guides for the ps2. if you have a fat ps2 you can use the internal hdd guide and if you have a slim ps2 you can use the ESR disc method
#ps2#playstation 2#video games#gaming#retro games#lmfao i have no idea how to tag this#if you are an expert in SMB or MX4SIO or fortuna feel free to add a guide as a PR lol#j.txt

As can be seen in a story background illustration, Minori's family owns a Nintendo Switch.
youtube
The first section of gameplay shown in MORE MORE JUMP!'s Sekai Game Day video is recorded from her console. This also confirms that she owns the game Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics.
Since Minori sets up a lobby using local play, this also means the other members of MMJ own Nintendo Switch consoles and Clubhouse Games. This is further confirmed by the daifugo gameplay being recorded from Haruka's console.
#project sekai#minori hanasato#more more jump!#at some point i plan on making guides of how to make all the miis shown in the game day videos#i got haruka's mii studio images and code back when the video released but forgot to ever post them. i think i deleted them lol#sekai game day

if you're stretching for shadowclan cats to use:
antpelt is mistakenly listed as from shadowclan in battles of the clans, and the wiki had him as a different character for a while. he also has an unnamed apprentice
shredtail is also mistakenly listed in shadowclan during bramblestar's storm
I am absolutely at the point where I'm willing to make absolutely ABSURD stretches. I'm affectionately calling all the extra cats I'm scrounging up from writer mistakes and background scenes "ShadowClan's Glitch Warriors." Thank you so much for pointing these three out, they're going in the list.
Suddenly, I was struck with an absolutely hilarious idea. Partner wanted something fun to draw but still has read absolutely nothing about Warriors, so I pitched;
"I will tell you nothing about these characters or who they are except their names. Draw a Shredtail, an Antpelt, and Antpelt's apprentice. TOTAL freedom over the designs here."
First they drew this lmao,
"This is a joke," they clarified
"NO I LOVE IT," I said, "KEEP GOING"
So we got Dollar Tree Shredtail, Great Value Antpelt, and the best thing I've ever seen in my life. Once they put these designs down, we talked personality and differentiators from the canon counterparts while they colored and refined them;
I loved the bushy gaster tail so much that I swore on the spot I was going to work it upwards into a whole bloodline, including the very obscure background warrior in AVOS, Wasptail. So even though they're mentor and apprentice in BOTC, I've decided these two will also be related. Probably siblings, or auncle/nespring.
The little black one is based off an Admiral Butterfly (it was my idea to make the little spots on their chest look like medals), so the name seems clear to me. Admiralpaw. Xey'll be meewa unless another gender works better; and I'm planning for xem to go out during a bloody battle against The Kin in true admiral style.
(funfact; admiral butterflies are extremely territorial. Males fight each other for control of a plant to attract females to.)
Warrior name is still undecided, though. Open to suggestions, leaning towards Admiralflight or Admiralflower.
Not-Antpelt I'm having name troubles with. I REALLY wanted to name them Majorheart, after a major ant, to keep the "military ranking + bug" pun that Addy's got... but it seems that none of the ants in this area would have a major caste. B'awww.
In the meanwhile, Antspot works fine. Alatefang or Dronepelt could work, too. Feel free to shout out suggestions, this guy's name and gender aren't set in stone.
Lastly, here's Diet Shreddy. Girl now <3
She is 100% going to be killed during The Battle of the True Eclipse, keeping consistent with the mistake in Bramblestar's Storm where Blackstar mournfully calls out the name of a Dark Forest warrior. I'm also undecided on if the actual Shredtail himself dies during that battle in BB, it might just be her.
In any case, she's probably going to be a TPB girl. If she's born during Brokenstar's time, she's one of the younger ShadowClan cats to take part in the WindClan Massacre. Might even be an early apprentice at the time, in a similar situation to Badgerfang (though in BB this was a one-time thing). If not during Brokenstar, then sometime during Nightstar's brief reign.
Right now she has no family, she's in my "reserves" at the side to use as a patch between generations. Her name is probably going to be either Tattertail or Shredclaw, given as an Honor Title after the Battle of BloodClan.
So she had a previous warrior name as well. She seems like the kind of troublemaker who would have the prefix Sike-- a small stream that dries up in summer. Sikestripe, if her name was given by Nightstar, or Sikestrike, if it was given by Tigerstar. Maybe it was one and then the other, in a sign of disrespect to his predecessor's lie.
#Then I lulled partner to sleep by streaming me working on the ShadowClan Family Tree#Small update for all concerned; Thank you for all the well wishes. They're doing ok#As OK as you can be in this situation. It comes and goes in waves.#We've been doing lots of nice stuff while hanging out all day. Soup. Video games. Stories. Rest.#They asked me for some nature prompts because plants are relaxing to draw#So I'm going to try making some guides specifically to their requests#But anyway--#I'm compiling lots of “glitch warriors” so I can mark down EXACTLY where they come from and their descriptions.#So far I've counted like 3 silver tabbies#This is extremely funny because there are TWO adult cats who could be called 'silver tabbies' alive during that time in TPB#Neither of them are actually silver tabbies (Boulder is solid gray and Archeye is a gray tabby).#And one of the 3 unnamed silver tabbies is a queen.#Btw I want to open up a like... 'Let's pick some names and personalities!' thing somehow for a lot of these Glitch Warriors#Because it sounds like fun and I like the spirit of collaboration with these guys#Plus I know some people really love the biome-accurate prefixes I can provide so this is a nice opportunity#Better Bones AU#bone babble#bug#ant#cw bug#ant cat

Asexuality in science fiction
A resource guide
Hello! So a while ago, I mentioned a resource guide for asexuality in science fiction. It includes resources for information about asexuality, asexual creators, non-fiction, fiction databases, fiction, writing asexuality, and writing sci-fi. There's a decent amount of aromantic resources included too bc a lot of resources included both. Also, there's a wide variety of types of resources:
Come and check it out! Both high and lower quality versions included:
