IT WAS EVERYTHING I HOPED AND DREAMED IT WAS

Fanfic Rec 4 of ?

In the Eye of the Needle by mystyrust on AO3 it’s almost 115k words and is a DP/BNHA crossover work.

I got intrigued by the type of crossover and the “Dadzawa” tag. I was on a spiral of DP crossovers and this one managed to rip me apart.

It’s a normal beginning plot for most DP crossovers, Danny goes through a portal and ends up somewhere else completely. But the emotions that I was put through reading this I was not prepared for.

My inner child fucking SOBBED.

There’s no pairing just Danny getting along with everyone and having a mental crisis here and there. As is the norm for a 14 year old teenager who is dead/not dead. So says the prophesy-

It’s a complete work and is apart of a series: Going Ghost, Plus Ultra. There’s 31 chapters total. And was published September 2nd, 2018 then completed on January 11, 2021.

It’s a really good work, there are some spoiler warnings for the BNHA anime but I think that season has been out long enough for it to really matter?

the girls eating Jackie is a horrific act, but the act itself isn't about morality. Starvation--specifically the point of starvation the Yellowjackets were at by this point--betrays the mind and body. As your muscles break down and your organs disintegrate, your nutrient-starved brain makes you hungry for literally anything you can chew and swallow, edible or not. Your brain doesn't even have to make you hallucinate, you become ravenously hungry the second anything remotely edible appears in front of you and it's nigh impossible to stop yourself from consuning the thing your brain has now identified as food.

When the girls smelled meat cooking it triggered this exact instinct. They literally couldn't have helped themselves. They were starving adolescent kids, they didn't stand a chance. Jackie would have been the same. So would Laura Lee, for that matter. They were sweet, warm-hearted girls, but they weren't saints or superhuman. They would have been starving kids like all the others.

Why didn't Coach Ben join in? He's a grown man. Yeah, but as an adult well past puberty and with a fully developed brain, he has more self-control than kids whose bodies and brains are still developing. And that's the point.

He's the proverbial adult in the room. He's supposed to be there to keep them safe and sane and he's failed. Not only have 2 of his charges died on his watch, but now the remaining kids have starved to the point of eating their dead.

If it were a matter of being scared of/disgusted by them Ben would've burned down the cabin and fucked off that night. But he stays because he's afraid OF them and FOR them.

They aren't monsters. They're kids. They're starving. They're desperate. Their brains aren't finished growing. Their already-limited self-control & reasoning is being crippled by a body that's starting to literally eat itself as a last resort. They don't resort to cannibalism due to their being inherently violent or predatious, or because they were intrinsically worse people than the teammate and team captain who predeceased them.

whats "fresh blood"?

batgirl/robin: fresh blood is an arc that takes place in issues #58-59 of batgirl 2000 & issues #132-133 of robin 1993 and i love it dearly. they’ve both moved to blüdhaven after the shitshow that was war games and are adjusting to both the new environment and each other’s more frequent company. it gives more dimension to cass and tim’s friendship and they work really well as a duo. they talk about their personal views on vigilantism/batman, cass steals tim’s pop tarts, tim pretends to kill cass in a pinch, it’s great.

What ROs do you recommend for what kind of people?

I admit, I'm not entirely sure what this question means? I mean it really varies from any given person, I don't really want to generalize too much. I could list off tropes for each person but I'm not one to use tropes to simplify a romance yk.

I think the best I can do with this one is say that for the characters; Cam is a soft and kind person who has trouble standing up for themselves (at first). Ollie is closed off and sarcastic, hesitant to enter any relationship especially a romantic one. R is a protective and loyal person, and someone who is aware that they're growing into a person they don't like, and are trying very hard to work on themselves. Terra is someone who worked very hard to become a better person, kinder and honest, but is still afraid of confronting the people who wronged her and forming lasting relationships.
