One of the many things that make me insane about the chaos walking books are the parallels between the characters. I could talk about them for DAYS. Viola and Mistress Coyle. Todd and Mayor Prentiss. Mayor Prentiss and Mistress Coyle. Davy and Todd. The return and Todd. Ben and Mayor Prentiss. The Sky and the Return. The Sky and the Return and the Mayor and Todd and so on and so forth until you combust.

Some of these specifically keep me up at night. The Sky telling the Return "you have no father, I have no son , we should totally be a found family" and the mayor constantly telling Todd that he's proud of him , that they are connected, forcing this bond between them , forcing him into the role of his son while the Sky asks, the mayor creating this test where to become part of the men of Pressintown you have to kill someone while the Sky's test is not to kill, to be able to show mercy, let go of anger to join the Land. Either way both Todd and The Return find themselves unable to kill, they are both angry and broken and Todd does hate Aaron and seek vengence just like The Return hates Todd but in the end they can't kill. but then there's Todd killing a spackle with a knife and The Return unable to stab Ben but he kinda kills Todd with a rifle while Todd purposefully doesn't shoot any spackle with his rifle during the first fight of the war And and and both the mayor and the sky die but while the Sky's memory is treasured and the Return is proud to follow in his footsteps Todd will never become like the Mayor ( who is only remembered as a horror story I hope )

There's so many characters mirroring each other it's insaneeee like mistress coyle and the mayor who both believe they are so high and mighty and so different but when it comes down to it they are both deranged fucking people obsessed with control. They go about it in different ways , one a murderer and the other a terrorist, they make sides and they fight and he poisons people and she's a healer but when it comes down to it she almost blows viola up with a bomb while the mayor saves Todd's life countless times. They are so obsessed with power and control that when they see it getting permanently out of their reach they kill themselves. She , "the martyr", "the voice of the people", goes out with a bomb while him "the president of the world", "the general", tries to leave behind countless deaths in a war he designed to have no winners. THEY ARE FUCKING INSANE YOUR HONOR "(if she wins) you'd be swapping one tyrant for another" YEAH WE NOTICED and and and do you see how they're unstoppable forces ?? The only reason they are defeated is because they defeat themselves!! No one else in the whole new world could have stopped them otherwise!!! AND did you guys notice how they were such better people in the past?? Mistress Coyle helping the protagonists of The wide open sea and Todd's mom describing the Mayor as a good man at the beginning of her journal??? But then power got to them , the need for control made them such horrible people

(Like I’ve said before lol) Leland’s more into woman that cop gets more horny and aroused by a woman’s screams , men get him off too but I feel like Leland’s the type of monster to jizz in his pants when he hurts a woman (because he’s awful)

If you were his wife, he would still love you but not in a sweet loving way, more like a your only here for my needs nothing else, would I say coyles the type to cheat…I mean he didn’t kill his wives for a mistress no I think he was juts sick of them because one of Leland’s lines in prime he says killed all his wives because goes berry isn’t a obedient house wife she had her own rules and he hated that butttt, I like to think he’s faithful because when Franco comes along he’s upset that Francos thinks Leland’s stuff his belongs to him And by stuff I mean us, reagents gooseberry and etc

Also love to headcanon that Leland’s into curvy woman because gooseberry and the big grunt woman, he likes woman of all body shapes, he ain’t picky lol, if your his type which I think is every woman in that facility 😭 but I will say this Leland’s a thigh guy, I don’t care he his, he’ll do everything to get a hold of your thighs, he’s gross so he’ll think of even grosser thing to do to your legs

I’m sorry I’m just really bored and saying the things I’ve been wanting to say and honestly hears one for a story I’ve been writing in secret lol

If Leland was a yandere, I don’t think he’d give you a chance to run away from him, if he was a yandere he’d probably cut off your feet so your couldn’t get away from him, lock you in a cell play with you till you either died or murkoff took you away and he’d probably find a new toy to torture.

Leland’s stupid but smart stupid, he’s knows big words and all that smart shizz but he can play dumb and be a real dumbass at times and I love that about him, like I said don’t like it done read lol

Leland’s a crybaby, he cried over stupid things, like when something doesn’t go his way or f he doesn’t get what he wants, he’s a manly man strong and intimidating but he’s pathetic and sad,

I feel like he’s checked a few lockers and got pounced on by a pouncer who he ended up hurting really bad or probably killed it,

In a way I feel like men scare him…..sometimes but once he realizes the power he has over them thanks to murkoff he’s a big strong boy and hurt them all he likes and enjoys

He’s scared of cows…..just a adorable headcannon , he fucked around and found out after a cow bit him so he doesn’t like them, only if there a cheeburger or steak lol

Leland hates water thanks to his battery on his back, he could die at any moment with a puddle of water or that pool in the farewell trial,

Afraid the reagents will get sick of him and end up killing him but he’ll never let that happen he knows they fear him and that makes him horny

I feel like if you was actually given freedom by murkoff….and Coyle liked you, I feel like your spot a cop car with the windows rolled up everywhere you went, feel eyes on you from afar, someone right behind you but when you look no one’s there until one night…he heard the familiar sound of creaking leather and you know that monster found you, then you’d go missing the next day and never be found again because he either kidnapped you and brought you back to murkoff or he ended you

Listen I would’ve written more but I’m honestly getting bored of this game and I do still love it, I love it so much but I’ve honestly gotten bored of countdown, don’t get me wrong the games amazing the new maps are amazing, the characters and gorgeous and perfect besides Franco

But idk maybe I’m just losing interest, but I’ll still try to post and draw Leland for you guys! Oh the parallels between Todd's relationship with Mayor Prentiss and Viola's relationship with Mistress Coyle. Both children get stuck with the Leader because of the Mayor. He locks Todd up and forced him to constantly interact with him, he also locks up all the women and so Viola has to constantly interact with Mistress Coyle. Both children intially distrust the Leaders, and the Leaders try to convince them that "one day they will see the truth". Both children get betrayed by the Leaders at the same time; when Mistress Coyle implies that The Answer's base is the sea so that Viola would tell it to Todd who would (willingly or not) tell it to the Mayor. The Mayor leaving the door unlocked so Todd would sneak out. Then the moment each of them decides to work for the respective Leader: Viola sees just how bad the women prisoners were treated, but the moment that really knocks the final domino is when Corinne dies. Corinne who never liked her but still died for her. And oh, god, how much guilt this must cause for Viola. And Todd's choice comes right after he sees the Spackles' bodies. The same spackle he abused and mistreated now dead and he didn't kill them but he sure as hell didn't make things good for them while they were alive. Both of those moments hapened because of something the Mayor did. He locked up all the women, he let his soldiers mistreat them and he most definitely killed the spackles.

Also the way both Leaders turn the children against each other. Never really saying "s/he is definitely working for Them" but suggesting at it, dropping the seeds of doubt in the child's head.

Confessions of a Final Girl (Mistress and Sugar - platonic) :

Isabelle Brooks is a well-renowned defense attorney and an amateur detective and is pretty damn proud of her job. She’s about as hard-boiled as a detective could get. Her most recent client is one Phoebe "Sugar" Coyle: the sole survivor of the recent massacre that befell the Kappa Delta Chi sorority being kept in custody after the previous night. The rest of Isabelle's precinct swears she’s guilty, but Sugar keeps saying things about a masked killer picking her sorority sisters (and her actual sister) off one by one until she put an end to things.

I kinda wish I had read the novellas in their right order between the books cause they really add so much and set the tone for the next book The New World

is the first time we get Viola's POV and it's also her backstory?? so interesting.

The main topic of this novella is hope and it comes up a lot in The Ask and The Answer

It's SO sad I was actually tearing up and I think it sets the tone for the second book which IMO is the saddest in the trilogy. Plus both the novella and the second book have a grim ending

The Wide, Wide Sea

It paints Mistress Coyle in a positive light

The point of the book is that Spackle and humans can get along, they can co-exist and even become friends (and more)

straight up telling you the war in Monsters of Men will end and Spackle and humans will coexist

Snowscape

Obviously, there's the ending. BUT ALSO it adds to the worldbuilding and expands on the "open communication" and "be in tune with your feelings" themes.

Gotta love those characters that you hated from the beginning but turn out to be one of your favorites bc of how complex and simply human they are and everything is all grey instead of black and white and they are just a product of their upbringing and that doesn’t excuse their actions but you understand them and they understand their own mistakes and regret them enough to spend their dying moments unburdening themselves with the truth and begging for forgiveness and it’s sad because you don’t know if they will ever really be at peace after being betrayed by the only two people they cared about and all they ever wanted was to be good enough and to be loved and to be respected and it cost them their life
