Unethical Executions in April
Micheal Smith is being executed in Alabama despite having an intellectual disability that would disqualify him from the death penalty in any other state. The only reason he is still being executed is because of a few confusing technicalities in Oklahoma law.
Petitions Here:
Letter Writing Campaigns for oklahoma residents here:
Missouri is slated to execute Brian Dorsey despite his claims of ineffective counsel and the fact that he is picture of remorse and rehabilitation: he turned himself over to the police and pled guilty, has had a flawless prison record, currently resides in the honor ward while working as a prison barber (a highly coveted job only given to trust worthy inmates), and has about 60 prison staff members advocating for the commutation of his sentence.

From @theinnocenceproject:
This is it. We only have 48 HOURS to stop Missouri from executing #MarcellusWilliams, an innocent man.
Every hour, every minute, every second is critical right now. And even though @GovParsonMO's office is closed today, we cant let a single moment go by where we’re not urging him to take action. So today, we’re asking you to SHARE Marcellus’ story far and wide by creating your own post about him using the social media toolkit at the link in our bio, and include a call to action to sign our petition and call @GovParsonMO at 417-373-3400.
It is not too late for Gov. Parson to ensure that Missouri does not take an innocent man’s life.

Marcellus Williams has been executed via lethal injection in the US. The state of Missouri sentenced him to death for the 1998 killing of newspaper reporter Felicia Gayle. The death penalty has been abolished in 23 US states, but Marcellus’ killing raises the total number of US executions this year to 16.
A number of civil rights groups, activists, and members of the public had urged the state of Missouri to stay the execution. Even so, a last ditch appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court on Tuesday. Both prosecutor’s and Gayle’s family called for Marcellus’ execution to be stayed.

Missouri activists have fought for years to prevent William's execution, drawing national attention to the 30+ year case in recent weeks. Despite all community efforts to voice opposition, the state is set to execute Marcellus in less than 24 hours on Tuesday, September 24th, at 6:00 p.m. This will be the 100th execution carried out by the state of Missouri since state executions resumed in 1989.
Tumblr media
In the middle of a plea deal to take the death penalty off the table, Attorney General Andrew Bailey stepped in to make sure Williams will die. This is the same politician who has been pushing trans healthcare bans in Missouri.

Remember who these people are in the coming years. Missouri is not some bum-fuck nowhere place that deserves to be forgotten. Nowhere is. We live here. Vulnerable people in the "red states" struggle every day against an ever-worsening situation as the GOP secures their comfortable position in state capitols across the US. The most marginalized among us bear the brunt of their incendiary, fearmongering propaganda.
Tumblr media
From transphobe AG Andrew Bailey to Trump sycophant Josh Hawley, the white men of Missouri who style themselves as leaders do not care who dies, as long as they get to show that they have power in the process. There are many more people like them, taking advantage of secure Republican one-party state politics to advance towards their ideal of a fascist authoritarian future, no matter the cost.
Black Lives Matter. Pay attention to the places that have been written off and left for dead.

In five minutes, the state of Missouri will kill an innocent man with reckless abandon. The sentencing jury disagrees. The victim's family disagrees. The prosecutor disagrees.
Mike Parson wants to feel the blood of an innocent man on his hands and so is refusing to grant him clemency.
Marcellus Williams does not deserve this.
May Allah reward you for your devout faith, Marcellus. May you forgive us for not being able to save you.
I'm so sorry.

Marcellus Williams is at risk of being executed in Missouri for the 1988 murder of Felicia Gayle, a former St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter in St. Louis, who was stabbed to death in her home. No execution date is currently set, however, in June 2023, Gov. Mike Parson lifted Marcellus' stay of execution, which had bee issued by former Gov. Eric Greitens minutes before Marcellus' 2017 scheduled execution.  Williams is at risk of receiving a new date at any time. Update: On August 6, 2023, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson announced he will allow a panel of five former judges to review the death penalty case of Marcellus Williams, whose guilt in the stabbing death of a former newspaper reporter has been called into question by DNA evidence. The inquiry was initially ordered by former Gov. Eric Greitens." Almost Marcellus' entire conviction rested on inconsistent testimonies from two individuals who were incentivized to testify against Marcellus. Recent testing from 2016 of evidence from the crime scene entirely excluded Marcellus, thereby wholly contradicting the testimony used to secure his conviction, yet he is still imminently at risk of execution in Missouri. Main concerns with Marcellus' case (From the Innocence Project): Marcellus has been excluded as the source of DNA evidence found on the murder weapon. No court has reviewed the exculpatory DNA evidence. The prosecution's case against Marcellus was entirely based on unreliable testimony from 2 incentivized witnesses. No scientific or eyewitness evidence connects Marcellus to the crime. Former Gov. Greitens stayed Marcellus' 2017 execution based on powerful DNA evidence. To read more about Marcellus' case, please visit the Innocence Project and Missourians to Abolish the Death Penalty.

Bloody September: 5 Executions Schedules in Various US States from the 20th to the 26th
Freddie Owens was 19 at the time of the crime and suffers from organic brain injuries
Marcellus Williams has maintained his innocence for over 30 years. The only evidence tying him to the crime was the testimony of two paid witness. DNA evidence done after his trial excludes him from the suspect pool
Travis Mullis is mentally ill
Emmanuel Littlejohn was convicted for murder due to his participation the robbery of Kenneth Meyers (the murder victim). The prosecution alleged that he was the one who pulled the trigger in Emmanuel's trial, but claimed it was his co-defendant in the the co-defendant's trial. The co-defendant only received life in prison.
Alan Miller suffered from delusions at the time of his crime, which legally bars him from receiving the death penalty. He also had ineffective assistance from counsel and has already survived one tortuously botched execution attempt
Below are some action items for these cases. CW: discussions of murder, abuse, SA
