Miss Universe Nigeria 2023 National Costume
We are rooted in our History as a people and this influenced my decision of wearing an outfit that represents the bravery of Queen Idia, Queen Moremi and Queen Aminat during my National Costume show last night at the Miss Universe competition.

if they were going to have a spinoff for anyone that wasn’t Bonnie, I wished it would’ve been about Sarah Salvatore (if they didn’t kill her off), but we know that they don’t like their black characters like that. I feel like if they had a spinoff about Bonnie though, I’d like the more “sidelined” characters to be centred more. Hear me out. With Elena/Stefan being the main character, we’re already pretty much aware that (unintentionally) Bonnie isn’t actually their friend. Or rather, they’re not Bonnie’s friends. To them, she’s just help. They don’t protect her, they don’t do shit for her, none of that. So, who were her friends? If it was was Plec writing the spinoff, Bonnie would’ve remained friendless, but I’d like to see the pre-existing bond between Bonnie and Tyler develop into a stronger friendship. I feel like we could’ve gotten some good moments out of that, whether they’d be serious or lighthearted moments. I mean, for both of them, both of them are basically left with nothing by mid/end of the show, like no family, barely any “friends” and all that. I wouldn’t have liked Bonnie to stay stuck in mystic falls similarly to Elena, so I would’ve maybe centred the show around Mystic falls/NOLA as well because obviously I’d love a Mikaelson moment, but more so, I’d love a black supernatural moment for her like Marcel and Vincent, etc. Maybe a third area would be good, like Chicago. The mikaelson’s have ties to Chicago, so that would be interesting too. I feel like a huge problem I had with the Originals is that NOLA is so much more… white, in the show, same with True Blood, like Louisiana is just so much more… white. And granted, the majority of Louisiana is white people, but the race demographics show that it’s like 60% white/40% POC, with 30% of that POC being black. Idk, I feel like that’s why I liked IWTV more, I immediately was pulled in because they show the blackness of NOLA immediately with LDPDL and his family, etc. I know that the “black supernatural” stereotype is annoying and all, but it really pulls me out when I see a supernatural show without many black supernaturals because black people all over the world have cultures that deal with what may be perceived as magic or witchcraft. Especially since with TVDU, the type of magic most commonly found in the universe is ancestral magic which is heavily present among black folk, so showing me a NOLA without blacks is so funny to me. Especially since Bonnie’s magic is ancestor based. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that if in Bonnie’s hypothetical spinoff, she goes to NOLA, imma need to see NOLA FRRRR, not this PWI NOLA that they showing me. I need more of us negroes. And other races too.
And with the laughable assumption that the CW would have the budget for this, it would be interesting if Bonnie went international. It always pissed me off when Plec said that Bonnie went travelling to “Africa” because as an African myself… where to lol? Did she go to Nigeria, Egypt, Congo, Zambia, Côte d'Ivoire, WHERE? But let’s say she does go “to Africa”, I would loveeee for her to find out about some of her ancestors there or something, maybe some traditional stuff. I know that Kat Graham is Liberian on her dad’s side, I can’t imagine she wouldn’t be open to bringing that to the screen, you know.
I always love your anons <3. sorry, this is late though! Sarah Salvatore was such a missed opportunity for the Salvatore brothers and family period. Stefan choosing to ensure Sarah lived a good life and far away from Damon (and himself) was so selfless.
But yes! I totally agree with you. Obviously, now and even when the show ended Kat would refuse to spinoff about Bonnie (who can blame her fr) but telling a story about Bonnie you have to be comfortable with letting her be a bit OOC to really tell a story about her. I don't mean she has to lose a plethora of character traits but she deserved a voice. She deserved to have her interests expanded on, and her emotions should be told. There should've been larger reactions to everything.
Plenty of fans get upset when the discussions about the friendships come around but don't like listening to nuance. EX: Elena tried killing Bonnie, and Bonnie reacted angrily but then instead of letting Elena fully apologize the writers had Bonnie just say it's fine because they weren't themselves. Let Bonnie be angry and skeptical! Let her question her own motives and find herself. Her life shouldn’t have just been her friends. There’s so many moments where the writing calls out how Bonnie is treated but does nothing about it.
Kat and Michael Trevino knew each other before the show and Tonnie could’ve had some interesting dynamics together. It pains me that Tyler’s hybrid/werewolf arc was treated as such an afterthought but Hayley’s hybrid nature is cherished. Many, many characters comment how powerful and what a fighter she is. Tonnie ain’t get none of that…
When I did my rewatch of TVD with my family a few months ago I actually laughed at the Mikaelson’s “ownership” of NOLA. They mentioned Chicago and their ties there so much that NOLA kinda felt unfitting to me after that. IWTV NOLA> TO Nola. The lack of diversity, the lack of an attempt at southern accents and dare I say southern culture seriously?… all the writers knew was bourbon street and Mardi Gras. I’m only in my first watch of True Blood ever but I feel the same about that show too tbh. Unrelated but Jacob’s Louis is what you’d think Marcel should be like given his history as a former slave but that lack thereof in diversity…
With the Bennett’s being the only black witch family. The writers really could’ve toyed with African folklores along with the bloodline and their creations with the lore but unless you’re white… well well well. Bonnie deserved so much more than she was ever given or given credit for.
