Miss Indiana USA 2023 State Costume

l'm proud to be Navajo and Cherokee Native American registered with the Cherokee tribe. This might be one of my greatest honors as a native woman to showcase my culture and a literal piece of my heart on the biggest stage in pageantry. Indiana is the historic homeland of many native groups as citizens from more than 100 different tribes still reside there today. Many natives wear red as a tribute to loved ones who have passed away as my costume's red accents are dedicated to my late momma Susan. The gold base represents the sun and assurance while the feathers stand for courage, honor and hard work. I practice my native culture by studying traditional Cherokee basket weaving I'm learning from native elders. Wado USA, which means thank you!

yikes no art today!!! Too busy, anyways I have a question about when I do the genderbent states occasionally. What are yall's thoughts on that?? Do you see them as the Miss states or as their own thing? To me they are their own thing, but I wouldn't mind if they were seen as the Miss states. Also, which states would yall wanna see my genderbend the most?? It's not guaranteed I'd do it btw I am just curious

This photo makes the rounds sometimes, possibly as a comment on the sang froid with which the other contestants regard one of their number who has collapsed. Beauty pageants being only slightly more vicious than dogfights, &c.

The backstory is that Moana Whaanga Manley, a champion swimmer and the first representative to the Miss Universe contest from New Zealand, as well as the first Māori to do so, passed out at a pageant photo shoot at Long Beach, California. Miss Brazil, Miss Germany, and Miss Belgium followed, fainting, successively, from the July heat.

As can be seen from the photo, Miss USA and Miss Universe were held concurrently, as both pageants were run by Pacific Knitting Mills, owner of Catalina swimwear, which had started them in 1952 after the winner of the 1951 Miss America pageant, which Catalina had previously sponsored, had expressed reluctance at being photographed in a swimsuit—"I'm an opera singer, not a pinup," she said.

Yolande Betbeze, the Miss America in question, after her reign, became a member of the NAACP, Congress of Racial Equality, and The Committee for a SANE Nuclear Policy.

I've finally made the short jump from WttT to Miss USA! I've been meaning to do it for a while so I'm glad I did. My very first Miss USA fic is "Take the Check" (on AO3), and I'm showing off an OTP of mine, Miss Connecticut / Miss Louisiana. This series is drastically underrated.
