Why
Miss flutters around the room, arranging, cleaning, and rearranging trinkets on a shelf. The light reflecting off her wings occasionally causing iridescent flickers of light as the sunlight from the window lands on them. The Doll watches it's miss. Feeling as if it wasn't worth such a creature.
Doll: Why does Miss keep this one?
The thought had been lingering for the doll more and more, ever since it first had a home with Miss. The doll didn't feel as capable as combat dolls, or as magnificently crafted as some of the magically enchanted dolls with their beautiful and intricate designs. Miss could have had her choice of any of the dolls.
Miss simply responds with a glance and a smile.
That did not answer the doll's question.
Doll: Awawawa….
Miss pauses, looking over to the doll.
Miss: That's really troubling you? Why wouldn't I keep you?
Doll: This one is not special… It isn't strong like combat dolls. It doesn't use magic like some dolls do. It is just a simple comfort doll.
Miss flutters over to the doll and waits, expectantly, for the doll to hold out it's hand for to land on. When it does she lands, kneeling in the doll's hand.
Miss: You are special. You are mine. You are exactly what I need.
Doll: Miss could have a stronger doll, one that could protect her more; or a Doll that would help in other ways.
Miss: I don't need either of those. I need you. You make the world quieter. You hold me when the static gets too loud. You ground me when I start to lose myself. I keep you because there is no other doll that could do that for me.
Doll blinks slowly, processing the words that Miss is saying.
Miss: I need you because of what you are. Not for what you can do.
Doll: This one is glad Miss thinks so.
Miss: I know so.
Miss's wings flutter as she takes flight and resumes her tasks. Leaving the doll to think. The doll begins to feel lighter, the question fading for now. It is enough knowing Miss choses it. Knowing it has a place. A home.

Now that Eurovision is over, I want you all, especially the Americans, to take a good hard look at how the voting results turned out when people boycotted the event.
In the UK, the viewing figures were down about 2 million people compared to last year. Up to 2 million people made the conscious decision to not watch and not vote because of Israel's inclusion.
The final results of the public vote, Israel came in first place in the UK and got 12 points. Because the only people watching and voting were people who backed Israel or at least didn’t care one way or another.
This doesn't matter. It's a music contest. The boycott was still the right thing to do because it is just a show at the end of the day, and the viewing figures have more impact than the results.
But it is also a good object lesson to show you what happens if you boycott a vote over something that does matter. Choosing not to vote in, let's say, a presidential election will have similar results.

a big lesson for me was learning that most things are not as fragile as I’d believed. missing a class, or turning in a bad assignment, won’t instantly destroy your professor’s opinion of you. accidentally saying something harsh won’t make your friend want to end the friendship. it takes work to repair these things - it takes effort and research and sometimes a sincere apology - but you can do that because they’re not irreparably broken. what you’ve worked to build, in academia and in relationships and in life, is stronger and more enduring that your mind may teach you to believe. don’t let imagined fragility lead you to giving up

Mine
I found you where others had left you. Discarded, forgotten, like you were trash. A thing they had no use for.
Your edges were worn, cracks along your skin, your hands still reaching, for someone who wasn’t coming back.
I came. When I looked at you, I didn’t see a broken thing, I saw something waiting, something that still had so much love left to give.
Maybe that’s why they left you because they didn’t understand that kind of love.
In the end, I don't care why. You’re not trash, you’re not forgotten. You belong to me now.
Those cracks don’t scare me. Those worn edges don’t make me turn away. You’ll never be discarded again. Not while I’m here. Not while you’re mine.

They Do Not Exist (1974) by Mustafa Abu Ali (watch)
from PalestineCinema.com:
Salvaged from the ruins of Beirut after 1982, Abu Ali's early film has only recently been made available. Shooting under extraordinary conditions, the director, who worked with Godard on his Ici et Ailleurs (Here and Elsewhere), and founded the PLO's film division, covers conditions in Lebanon's refugee camps, the effects of Israeli bombardments, and the lives of guerrillas in training camps. They Do Not Exist is a stylistically unique work which demonstrates the intersection between the political and the aesthetic. Now recognised as a cornerstone in the development of Palestinian cinema, the film only received its Palestine premiere in 2003, when a group of Palestinian artists "smuggled" the director to a makeshift cinema in his hometown of Jerusalem (into which Israel bars his entry). Abu Ali, who saw his film for the first time in 20 years at this clandestine event noted: "We used to say 'Art for the Struggle', now it's 'Struggle for the Art'"
