Satoru has witnessed lots of deaths and has more blood on his hands then necessary AND he lost his best friend the person who really understood him the most. But your friends dragged you out, insisting you needed to move on, to dance, to drink, to forget the way Katsuki Bakugou had once made your entire world spin and then walked out like it meant nothing.

Except it did mean something.

You knew it the second you saw him leaning against the far wall, arms crossed over his black shirt, vermilion eyes tracking you like a threat and a promise all in one. He hadn’t touched his drink. Hadn’t said a word to anyone. He was just watching.

Your heart stuttered. Your body kept moving—like if you danced long enough, fast enough, he’d disappear from your thoughts.

Bakugou never disappeared. He waited.

“You didn’t break me, Katsuki. You just… left me in pieces.”

The words stung more coming from your lips than they had when you thought them alone at 2 a.m.

“Then show me,” you whispered.

i've been avoiding tiktok because my jealousy is getting the best of me and there's quite a few sei fans that get way too comfortable with my man but i need to GET A GRIP. i know they're just fans and no one comes close to sei as i do and he reassures me almost daily but it's still...very uncomfortable for me. on top of that, the mischaracterization he suffers everywhere all around the internet. i don't mind people thristing over him since that's almost the norm unfortunately but how misunderstood he is actually breaks my heart. nobody gets him. it's absolutely insane. the only people who seem to perceive him correctly are a few mutuals of mine. it's absolutely insane.

And honestly this really pissed me off, the invalidation of Aang’s trauma and the adultification of Katara honestly grosses me out. The air nomads were very sexually open in ways that none of the other cultures are in ATLA. This is canon. They were a sexually free people, lol. So saying that Aang would have no concept of these things because he’s too “immature” to know about it is not aligning with what we know of his people and culture. We also know that Katara and Aang married and had a child together when they were pretty young, so… this whole argument is so strange lmao. Adding onto this, Aang traveled the world and frequently at that and we can assume he did so solo. He had way more life experience and knowledge by the age of 12 than Katara or Sokka combined, who had never even set foot outside their village. If any of these two characters is naive about sexuality and all it encompasses, it would in fact be Katara…. Who grew up in a village without men aside from her brother… lol. Aang traveled everywhere, he probably was friends with plenty of girls and I’m sure Katara wasn’t his first kiss, either given these facts.

Their argument is “Aang doesn’t know about female anatomy” which is implying he is unfit to date her on the grounds he couldn’t “please” her. However, as I already showed, this would very likely not be the case given Aang’s culture and people and everything we know of his life pre iceberg.

If anyone doesn’t know about sex and genitalia, it would be Katara. 100%. She literally grew up in an isolated village with no males aside from her brother. She would have virtually no concept of male puberty or male anatomy. Lol. So what’s the argument here? Is Katara now “unfit” for Aang because she grew up isolated from men? See how easy that was to flip their bullshit? 😭

It’s honestly so bizarre to me how ppl act like Aang is the naive, stupid and sheltered child in the show when in reality, Aang was already self sufficient as a 12 year old. He traveled, cooked for himself and cared for himself during said travels, he knew of other cultures intimately, he knew a lot of history, he was already a master of his native element, etc…. That doesn’t sound like a naive child to me. Aang doesn’t act silly and goof off because he’s stupid. It’s both an aspect of his carefree personality and also a conscious choice and coping mechanism from trauma and grief and survivors guilt.

And anyway, Katara thinks of Aang’s carefree nature in a very positive light. She likes this about him.

I’m also never gonna understand the argument of “she grew up in war” as if Aang didn’t fight alongside her in that very war as a kid, too. Yeah, he had 12 years before that, but who gives a fuck? He also suffered far more loss than Katara or anyone for that matter, and that is objective fact.

Apologies in advance for the mischaracterization - my character writing has been a bit off lately.

Fandom: Star Wars (Prequel trilogy)

Summary: Anakin and Padme both see themselves as indestructible. Yet, with each other, they fail to suppress their human tendencies.

Padme was on the way to her room in the senate building on Coruscant when she heard some rather noisy bickering.

Of course. Anakin - who was now a young man and no longer a little boy, although just as whiny and childish - and Obiwan - his unfortunate master - were arguing again. Obiwan never liked to make the disagreements with his Padawan public, but that was almost impossible due to the level at which the younger man irritated him. Every stupid thing he loudly declared need an equally as loud yet reasoned response.

"No Anakin, there is still a Sith out there. There's no time for this nonsense"

"But it's not fair", Anakin replied, which was seemingly his catchphrase. Padme, feeling unexpectedly curious, crept up to the two. Obiwan was, of course, the first one to notice her presence.

"Anakin", he said, trying to bring his Padawan's attention to the senator, yet the Skywalker just kept bickering. Without context, his pleas seemed pretty incoherent - something about being fed up with training and wanting a shot at the real thing.

"Anakin", Obiwan whispered again, his teeth clenched, desperate to get Anakin's attention without the senator noticing his inability to shut up his own Padawan.

Padme thought to herself that she was being a bit rude - forcing the non-combative Obiwan into this position. Yet some inquisitive spark within her wanted to see how this played out. Or, more specifically, how one could possibly grab this disobedient Padawan's attention. Or if it was even possible for that matter.

Finally, Obiwan gave Anakin a gentle poke in his left side, right below his ribs. Anakin squeaked and jumped, leaning forward to smack his master in retaliation before noticing Padme's presence, stepping back as his cheeks turned a dark red.

Padme couldn't help the chuckle that escaped her lips. This reminded her of a game she used to have with her parents, where they would try to sneak up on one another and poke each other. The Skywalker seemed just as reactive as Padme had been when she was a young child back than, and she couldn't help it that this thought made her heart gently flutter. And she hated that it did.

A while later, Anakin and Padme were seated together upon the grassy fields of Naboo, the Padawan having been assigned the position as the senator's temporary bodyguard. Anakin was humming to himself, twiddling his fingers in strands of grass, looking everywhere but at Padme's face. So this was his strategy, the cunning bastard. Padme knew that Anakin liked her - he had told her upfront - but she'd told him they couldn't be together, because they couldn't. Now he was acting all secluded and mysterious on purpose, hoping to pique Padme's interest. But damn it, it was working.

"So", Padme began, breaking the awkward silence. Anakin lifted his head as if he just noticed that she was there.

"It must be really hard training to be a Jedi. Don't you ever miss your mother?"

Anakin chuckled - "I'm learning to be one of the most powerful people in the galaxy, how could I miss anything about my old life?"

Padme squinted at that. She knew that he was lying, trying to look all cool and tough. She also knew that he probably missed affection, both emotional and physical. She could just sense it.

"Oh come on", Padme prompted, "Firstly, being a Jedi isn't about being all-powerful, it's about helping others. Secondly, missing your mother would only be human, which is nothing to be ashamed of".

Anakin scoffed, putting a hand to his heart in what was clearly staged offence, "Are you saying I'm inhumane!"

Padme couldn't help but giggle at that.

"Hey-what are you laughing at?", Anakin snapped, pushing her shoulder gently.

"Quit the act Ani. Your going to be stuck with me a while on this planet so you may as well be honest".

"I am!", the Padawan defended, "You should know this Padme, how power and responsibility can preoccupy you to the point where you don't think of anything else".

Padme smirked. She knew that she shouldn't say what she was about to say, but she couldn't help it.

"I thought you said you'd been thinking about me all the time".

At that, Anakin turned dark red, both from embarrassment and fuming anger that this woman - this angelic young woman - would use his attraction to her as a tool in winning an argument.

"Sorry", Padme said a little sheepishly, "I shouldn't have said that. It wasn't funny, it was very immature and I apologize".

Suddenly, Anakin's facial expression shifted, a smirk growing on his lips. "No, it's refreshing. I think that's the first time youve' flirted with me".

Now Padme was the one blushing.

"Oh, what's wrong Padme? Forgotten how to speak?", Anakin teased.

That little shit! Padme discarded her senator's decorum, completely overcome with the urge to jump on this man and pin him down on the grass below her, which she did with playful agression

Anakin, not excepting this move from her, smirked once again - that shit eating grin provoking Padme even more. And possibly giving her a few butterflies.

"Well this is a very interesting position we're in", Anakin said, raising an eyebrow.

Padme groaned, trying to think of what to do next. Come on Padme, use your brain. That was when she remembered it - the one time she'd seen Anakin Skywalker truly humbled. The one time she'd witnessed a demeanor from him that wasn't excessively cocky. His weakness. Now it was her turn to smirk.

Anakin, being the confident little prick he was, wasn't fazed in the slightest by the way Padme's eyes were glowing mischievously. He was excited for whatever Padme would do. But the last thing he excepted was her to dig all ten of her fingers into his sides, causing him to squeal in surprise and squirm left and right, bursting into a stream of high pitched giggles.

"Ha! I knew you were ticklish!", Padme remarked.

Anakin tried to swat Padme's hands away, but she just sat on his waist and pinned them to his sides with her knees. Anakin, on the other hand, was squirming with embarrassment and, as much as he would never admit it, a long-forgotten joy.

"Yohohohou stohohohop this rihihihight now!"

Padme smiled. The Skywalker was still demanding, even when he was reduced to a cackly mess.

"Oh Anakin, your in no position to give me orders right now".

Anakin shook his head, trying to lift his knees but unable to do so under Padme's weight. His attacker grinned to herself evilly, lifting her fingers momentarily.

"Okay Anakin, where else are you ticklish".

Anakin took this opportunity to catch his breath. Than he could commence his whining.

"Oh come on Padme, this is childish!"

Padme was taken aback a bit by his confidence in being so irritating. Was this just his personality, or was he specifically trying to provoke her? If it was the latter, it worked.

"Says the one whining like a five year old", Padme retorted, "If you don't tell me where else your ticklish, I'll have to find it myself-"

Anakin's eyes widened, "Wai-"

Suddenly, she started poking and scribbling around Anakin's belly. He tried to curl in on himself, realized he couldn't, and resigned into a desperate stream of giggles - even higher pitched than the last ones.

"What's this?", Padme inquired, feigning surprise, "What were you saying about learning to be one of the most powerful people in the galaxy? And yet you can be defeated by my wiggling fingers".

Anakin blushed deeply at that, "Shuhuhut uhuhup!"

Padme switched spots, prodding around Anakin's hips experimentally. The young Jedi doubled over in laughter.

"Oh, is this a good spot?", Padme asked innocently, using one hand to drill into his hip and the other to spider around his belly.

This was torture. Of course, Anakin didn't mind it that much. Because, as much as he hated to admit it, Padme had been right. He missed physical contact and intimacy. He may have been a Jedi in training, but he was still human. This was kind of a win win for him - he got the physical affection he missed and got to be close to the former queen. At least, it was a win-win until Padme found the sweet spot on the right side of his neck.

"NOHOHO!", he cried, his squirming becoming more violent as he scrunched up his shoulders to protect himself.

Ok, I know this is gonna be a stupid rant and it's completely fine if this doesnt get posted, but can people who hate Jessa just learn to not talk about it? Or at least censor the shipname so it doesnt pop up everywhere? Ever since Jessa got popular, I've seen such an obnoxious amount of people complaining about it. Primarily on Twitter. And it's just... Why waste time indulging in your hatred for something when you could just be doing something actually enjoyable for yourself?

A few days ago I saw a tweet that was talking about how "most Jessa shippers mischaracterize both J and Tessa" and it's like... How can you mischaracterize characters who barely have a personality to begin with? Yes, they have basic character traits to follow but other than that, they're basically blank slates. I don't think it's IMPOSSIBLE to mischaracterize them, but it just really depends on how and why you may be characterizing them one way. And I would love for someone to explain how Jessa shippers do that? Jessa is one of the only few pairings that make sense in canon, romantically or platonically. J and Tessa were a duo in episode 5 for a reason, they were obviously closer than the others.

Just because in fanart J may act uncharacteristically sappy doesn't mean it's mischaracterization, we don't actually know how either J or Tessa act when flustered or in love. It's not fair to accuse people of mischaracterizing J and Tessa just because people like to draw them sappy, in real life people do things you wouldn't expect them to do because they're in love with someone. Yes, it's true! When you're in love, you tend to say things you wouldn't let anyone else hear!

Plus, a lot of Jessa works are intended to expand on Tessa's character. Tessa is even more of a blank slate than J and it's FUN to try fleshing her out, and what do you know? Fleshing out Tessa does end up fleshing out J as well because they're a canonical duo! We don't know what Tessa would be like in modern day and we only get a glimpse of how she is in episode 5, there are so many layers to her we are missing and a lot of Jessa fanwork dives into that.

Also, be real for 2 seconds. Every ship that is not canon is mischaracterization. You HAVE to mischaracterize your favorites to some degree to make a ship you like work, regardless if it's a toxic or sweet pairing. The same people saying Jessa is a bad ship are people who ship J and Uzi or even Cyn and J. I like all 3 of these pairings by the way, so I'm not calling any of them bad. But I just think it's moronic and hypocritical to dunk on Jessa shippers and then do the same exact shit?

We are also most likely never gonna get anything from Liam himself about either of these characters, whether it's individually or as a pair, I think it's FINE to want to expand upon them? A lot of people in this fandom have a weird complex when it comes to ships and you guys really need to take it down a notch, some of you are TOO sensitive for your own good and probably need to step away from the internet. It says a lot when just a few months ago, Jessa was being called a problematic pairing because of it being interspecies even though robot x human has been a thing for longer than some Murder Drones fans have been alive. Also just in case this hasn't been resolved yet, there's no power imbalance because Tessa treats the drones with the same respect as an actual person... BECAUSE SHE SEES THEM AS PEOPLE.

Dislike and hate whatever you want, but please stop treating people like they're weird for just liking something. It's disheartening to see the amount of people in this fandom who shut others out because of something as stupid as a ship. As long as the pairing isn't genuinely harmful, I don't see why it has to be a problem. There's always going to be bad eggs but I just don't understand why this has to cause a rift between the fandom. I understand being uncomfortable with a ship, even if it's not problematic, and that's completely fair. You have every right to dislike something or be uncomfortable with it, but that doesn't give you a pass to be rude to others over it.

Learn to block and move on, not everything needs your input. If you really need to talk about something that's bothering you, just rant in your friend's DMs!

this may be just absolute word vomit but like. hugeeee agree w ur post abt how this fanbase tends to treat queer headcanons and even canon queer rep. i genuinely thought elena was 100% transfemme because people kept calling them peter's wife and calling them she/her only but as far as i'm aware they still use just they/them in general (have not finished apotheosis yet but i'm aware of elena and how they're treated by the fandom). transfemme headcanons are treated like the end-all-be-all of representation, even when (in this fanbase at least) they're typically only slapped onto guys that are vaguely gnc and then those characters are watered down to being "the girl" and being submissive and shy or peppy and bubbly all the time. huge reason why i'm not a fan of transfemme kian headcanons because i have not seen a single one that is given any thought outside of making kian the "woman" in any ships he's put into. i've seen a little bit of discussion and thought given to transfemme ashe, but outside of a small handful of posts, he's mostly just delegated to being "the girl" of the prime defenders. i've even seen transfemme troy in fics but even that only turns him into a silly peppy girl for some reason??

part of me wants to say that some of the mischaracterization comes from. i don't want to say a place of privilege where these (typically) kids are generally accepted or tolerated irl and generally don't understand the harm that can come from their views on these headcanons and canon queer characters in general, but . it kind of feels that way sometimes!! being trans isn't just about slapping on a new set of pronouns and immediately having people treat you how you want, it's about re-examining your entire life through a whole new lens, telling people who you are, facing rejection everywhere, people trying to coerce you out of being what makes you comfortable, etc. etc. there's so much more to it than just. saying you're [insert gender here] now and having everyone be okay with it. its!!! so frustrating!! i could talk about this for hours but i fear i would just get mad. sorry for the inbox rant i need to go to work now you don't have to answer this if you don't wanna but i just wanna say. huge agree on all of this and its nice to have someone else in this fanbase who like. generally seems to care about queer characters outside of slapping new pronouns on a character and calling it a day

a lot of young people joining this fandom space have spent their teenage years growing up terminally online, for part of it even locked away from outside influences because of covid. and this might be a little america centric but many of these kids have also never really known a world in which gay marriage wasn't legal, in which the internet wasn't lit up with rainbows during the month of june. theyve spent so much time in twitter echo chambers telling them what to think about right and wrong and they haven't really gotten the real life experience to know the significance of some of the things they're saying. i dont fully blame them for it; theyre young, theyre learning and experiencing things for the first time, and with big topics like this if you arent given the proper resources it can take a long time to finally figure it all out. god knows it took me forever to get to where i am now. its just frustrating as an adult in what Should be a primarily adult space being surrounded by kids with very loud voices and opinions about very sensitive topics misunderstanding their importance completely.

i worry sometimes tackling the topic of how this fanbase treats transfemme headcanons, cos I know there is a general lack of good women characters and especially transwomen in a lot of media, and jrwi is a podcast that up until recently consisted of only men. i feel massively under-educated to be the one talking about this issue. but i also feel strongly that pushing characteristics that are often downright misogynistic onto canonically male characters is absolutely not solving that problem. and turning gnc/nonbinary/genderless characters into women isnt solving it either.

i have a bit of a different perspective, i think its completely fine to write and consume media with mischaracterization- its self indulgent. sometimes i read a fanfic and im like ‘woah, sasuke would NEVER say that.’ but i secretly like the over feminization (example).

however, if you CANT understand the difference, and convince yourself that the fanon is canon there is smth wrong with your brain 🤷‍♂️ this is why i always say that if SS shippers admitted that they were delusional, i would respect them- genuinely. sometimes we cant help how or what we imagine things about our favs, we want it to be a certain way and its okay. they make it hard though.

I wasn't referring to the individual experience of reading fanfiction but this entire phenomenon where an entire generation was raised on fanfiction and how people have used it to "fix" what they didn't like in the original work. If you're on twitter and tiktok you'll always see these people talking about "problematic media" and how they would rewrite it to make it acceptable and palatable. For example, in the case of Sex & the City that saw a resurgence in popularity when the show was added to Netflix people were talking on how Carrie was dumb and insufferable and needed to stand up and whatever and then the conversation immediately turned into "they should make a remake but this time of girls in their 20s living in their city and Carrie isn't insufferable anymore" and you know it's just indulgent self-insert fanfic they want instead of earnestly engaging with the show they're presented. Because that's the thing, to make Carrie not-insufferable you need to take away all her traits that make her that way, once you do that she's just perfect and then what happens? there's no plot. If a character doesn't make decision that they shouldn't have done there's no conflict thus nothing happens and shit is boring as fuck.

Also books, with this reign of booktok on the publishing industry, not only has the standard of writing go down but it resembles a fanficesque style of writing, it's meant for the reader to insert themselves in the story and let's not even delve on the trope-based marketing that's been clearly taken from the tag system from ao3

So you have an entire generation that since they were 12-14 have been reading fanfiction to the point that's how they think media should be and how you should engage with media. They expect stories to be indulging, they expect to see themselves in the characters, they don't like conflict, complexities and nuance that takes them out of their comfort zone. I think you can also mix this with the damage the MCU has done to how people see movies as an spectacle where you just get to "shut off your brain". We're living in times where people simply don't like to think, they don't like to be challenged about anything.

And then add to all that the "buzzfeed tumblr politics" of 2013-2016 where everything was problematic and everyone was overcorrecting to oblivion sanitizing everything so nothing ever makes anyone uncomforable, that permeated into people's media literacy as well.

I've also been thinking fanfiction might have something to do with people's aversion to sex in media nowadays, it's not the only factor but I believe is one of them and the only one that no one brings up when we're having this conversation on this puritanism politics. People read fanfiction because they want to see their favorite characters have sex, smut is perhaps the most important valued aspect of fanfiction so once again if you have people that are constantly reading fanfiction you get people that are constantly being hit with sex content so when they start reading and watching real media (no shade but I don't respect fanfiction as an artform) and they come across sex and nudity they think there's an epidemic of perverts that put sex everywhere which is simply not the case, we're living in the most clinical sexless periods of media rn, but they'll get mad if I start saying they're just reading too much smut and that's why they think everyone is putting sex in ther faces all the time.

They also believe that sex serves no purpose in storytelling that's why they're always hitting us with some "sex scenes are unnecesary" discourse and part of that is that a lot of the smut in fanfiction is unnecessary (I mean the "porn with no plot" tag) this is just a quick fantasy, so of course they can't see beyond on what sex can tell you about characters and their dynamics with one another.

People start reading fanfiction before they learn proper media literacy in their literature class, so of course fanfiction is going to cause some undesirable effects, even worse when paired with other phenomenons like the aforementioned.

It's all about perpetual infantilization of adults due to being exposed to certain things they shouldn't have way too early in life, I feel.

it is so ROUGH out here, especially when it is a combination of a ship with a character you don't like and blatant mischaracterization. and when you cannot seem to escape off-handed mentions of it every which way.

Avoidance, avoidance, avoidance! that has always been our tactic. blocking, filtering, anything that makes you comfortable. block the whole world!!! do it!! for one of my headmates who selfshipped with a popular character, the key was to understand how much content he could handle and how much he couldn't.

he got news, and he could occasionally see art, but anything outside of canon was of little value to him, and he found his comfortable spot setting boundaries. anything that made him anxious was off the table. it made his environment quiet, but manageable!!

do not be afraid to set up boundaries, even with people you know!! ESPECIALLY with people you know, actually!! your selfship is yours, and it is real. as real as could ever be! we support you! ♡

besides. that ship makes your f/o just as uncomfortable. they already have a partner, after all, and that partner is YOU!!!

I have a revelation!

(This is a rant about certain Envy shippers and certain writing choices. No worries, it’s not a ship-bashing post!)

I think the one of the real reasons why I don’t like Envy as much as I wish to, is because people bend over backwards to mischaracterize/demonize characters in order for the relationship to even work. Not even working with the canon or trying to make an interesting story.

They mischaracterize V as a heartbroken, jealous sad girl who is sad that her property—I mean, former lover is in love with someone else. Just like any other shitty Olivia Rodrigo song.

Or they make N so hung up on his crush on V to the point where he’s flanderized to the sky and beyond.

It just puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I remember seeing this one comic where made N upset, and N is getting reminded of all the horrible things he’s been told, so V comforts him. Okay, standard, what’s the problem? The problem is that the characters that are shown is Cyn (makes sense) and UZI (what)! Why Uzi? That doesn’t make fucking sense! If it was J, then that would be accurate, but Uzi? Really?

I’m not done. There was an Envy Heather edit. Completely missed the point. No other words. Unlike the last example, it didn’t piss me off, just “did we even watch the same show?”

Same with Thuzi, and even Vuzi or Juzi in some cases. FUCKING CODEGOLD! And I think Nuzi and NUziV too, but to a lesser extent from what I seen.

I feel bad because I don’t want to hate the ship. I do see its merits and why people like it. I even follow creators or works that ship Envy or have it as the main focus. But by god, certain people make that so difficult sometimes.

This isn’t a problem specific to this ship or this fandom, IT’S EVERYWHERE AND IT DRIVES ME NUTS!

and you’re totally allowed to be annoyed when that’s all people boil him down to, you’re totally allowed to dislike mischaracterization, you’re totally allowed to hate a ship! but GODDD it specifically grinds my gears when people aren’t even giving worthwhile critiques and instead just try to insist “dazai is straight!”. there’s actually a very highly upvoted post on reddit compiling “evidence” of dazai being straight. it’s definitely not a well-meaning post, it’s absurd, and i wish i was kidding ;; i’ve seen SO many people go “he likes women, cuz this this and this! he’s straight!”

like…. y’all. addressing the elephant in the room: BISEXUAL PEOPLE EXIST?? i’m not even bi and it pisses me off that people seem to just ignore that there’s more on the table than just gay and straight. BUT ON TOP OF THAT, it is heavily implied in his own works that the irl osamu dazai was bisexual, primarily describing his experience having a crush on a boy his age when he was teenager. obviously these characters in BSD are not 1 to 1 copies, but it feels massively disrespectful to the real author (who lived at a time where being open about his orientation was downright DANGEROUS) to immediately and vehemently insist that dazai is straight because he likes women.

personally, i believe dazai is meant to be coded or insinuated as bisexual in the series due to a number of reasons i’ll probably get into on a later date (not rlly related to ships btw!)— not everyone agrees, and that’s fine! you’re totally allowed to think he’s straight, dislike his ships, dislike when people oversimplify him etc, but it just drives me crazy when people get MEAN about it and go to insane lengths to try and have some weird gotcha moment every time someone mentions a ship or makes a joke.

tldr: chill out with ships and headcanons guys, please, it is never that deep. when we call dazai gay, or call bsd a gay series, we are not being serious. and i love bi dazai!!

2. What was the Asian QL that got you to join fandom?

The one that got me writing meta on tumblr was La Pluie, thanks to the efforts of you and @lurkingshan. It was an effective campaign and I'm grateful you waged it!

8. Which Asian QL character is most misunderstood?

I had such a hard time choosing who to write about, this is the one that I kept deleting and rewritng. Patts in La Pluie comes to mind as a man who was pushed to the brink. Sailom from Wedding Plan is definitely one that stands out for me because I was in the camp that misunderstood him until Lom's full situation and Nuea's background came out and we got to see just how intensely the power dynamic between him and Namnuea was actually not in Lom's favour after all; and then he gave one of the best apologies in BL and won me over fully. I've also written before about how Noh from Secret Crush on You seems to skirt by without being understood as the freak4freak he is. I thought about writing about The Eclipse, but I think that entire show is misunderstood to be honest. What a waffle-y answer, but the short version is: Any character who makes an in-character, narrative-justified mistake. I like it when characters aren't perfect. Anyway since I started this draft, I've binged Miracle of Teddy Bear and now think the answer is Tofu. Both main characters are not understood, but Tofu in particular has been mischaracterized and his agency undermined. Working on a bigger post about this.

11. Which Asian country's BL is usually your favourite?

I have favourite BLs from all countries and origin isn't a guarantee I"ll like or dislike any particular show. In terms of percentage, I tend to love a greater ratio of Japanese BLs, some of that being due to manga and anime being my entry point into Asian queer media. But my favourite series is Thai (UWMA), and I have a real soft spot for Pinoy BL (Gaya Sa Pelikula and more recently Marahuyo Project rewired my brain) and Vietnamese BL (Hey! First Love) too, and two of my favourite comfort series are Korean (Our Dating Sim) and Taiwanese (History 2: Crossing the Line). There just tend to be fewer misses for me from Japan in relation to the number of hits, and by hard numbers the majority of my favourites are from Japan. If we're talking GL though, Korea currently reigns in this category (with of course entries from everywhere, because I can never actually pick a fave).
