I just finished watching all of the currently translated Puella Historia events (side note: ow) and I find it interesting how the role of the girls sent back into the past differs between them

(spoilers)

Tsuruno and Sana interact with and befriend Tsuyu and Chizuru, but stay in a side roll in their story, mostly just working to keep the past the same (this is also the event with the most concrete timeline for the magical girls involved, so this is understandably given a lot of stress)

The Tokime Clan have about the same if not more focus than Ebony I'd say- they also directly help her in many ways up to and including preventing her from becoming a witch, and literally convince Nemu to let them meddle because "what if that's what we're supposed to do?"

Promised Blood could probably be edited out from Olga and Gunhild's story and it wouldn't make much difference? They do have a roll in the story of having to deal with the pain of knowing what's going to happen and not being able to stop it, but in the end it ends up as a sideplot (not a bad thing! it gives the sisters a good center stage)

and Folklore basically gets dragged into the plot no warning first thing after they arrive, and has to figure it out from there (which is very interesting for the faction that mostly works from the shadows in the main plot)

So the new Magical Girl (Ebony):

Has a sexualized as-fuck costume. She's almost nude.

Isn't even tan, let alone black (I guess we don't know yet if she's natively Egyptian or not, but like. C'mon. I see no reason she couldn't have been black. This is just racist laziness if she's the only Egyptian girl we get.)

I honestly don't know if her being named Ebony is okay or not. Given she's light-skinned it's obviously only because of her black hair. Idk if it would have been okay, or even preferred, she was named that if she was actually dark-skinned.

I haven’t read the event yet, so take what I’m saying with a grain of salt but…

My view on the whole thing with Ebony is that her being super pale doesn’t make sense, but it’s not as egregious as one might think.

The era of Cleopatra and presumably the Miracle of Alexandria is around 30 BCE, during the time of the Ptolemaic (Greek) Dynasty and Roman influence. Not during super ancient Egypt. For reference, Cleopatra actually lived closer to the modern day then she did to the building of the pyramids.

So the event basically takes place during a time period in Egyptian history long after it’s heavy interconnection with Nubia (which were essentially East Africans), during a time of control by Southern European groups, and before the Arab Expansion into North Africa.

Anyways that's all to say that Ebony having relatively light skin isn’t unthinkable, as she is likely of Greek descent. However, she probably should've been a little tanner though, as southern European aren’t super pale and are often described as olive-skinned or “swarthy” - but she probably would not have actually been Black.

Ok been doing some wvw roaming with Zerek, and I think I finally 'get' Mirage.

Like good lord the amount of clones and dodges I can produce is terrifying. My dodges make clones, half my skills make clones, hell when I'm on scepter even my auto-attack makes clones. It honestly feels almost as unfair as my perma-stealth thief.
