what do you think of the puella historia girls desgins?

I'm gonna make this a two-parter so I don't make one long ass post.

I don't like the positioning of her hairpins and I'm a bit on the fence on the collar of her "jacket", but otherwise she's perfectly fine 👍

Chizuru

Weird soulgem placement and implied nudity aside, her combination of elements is really fucking disjointed, although you don't notice at first because her silhouette isn't very complicated so your eyes might go over her too quickly if you don't pay attention. Still, lace and sleeping bag sleeves together? on a feudal japanese ninja outfit? With flames painted on the leggings? I could handle this is the flames were painted in a more japanese kimono print way, and if the outfit as a whole was a proper mix of lolita and ninja fashion I could take that, but a it is nothing is really working together. The dangling ribbons on her legs look like a pointless waste, you can barely see her earrings due her hair style and lack of color contrast, the string of triangles has nothing to do with anything and then you notice that her right strand of hair reaches up to the center top like the rest, but her hairline right beside sweeps up into nowhere. I kinda get the feeling that she was supposed to evoke the aesthetic of a japanese volcano like Mount Fuji, with the fire and red representing the lava and the lace representing the snow that covers the mountain, but her construction is so sloppy that I feel like I'm being WAY too generous with that assessment.

Racist. In all fairness to her however, I should've also said something about Yachiyo from the word go.

Another one who looks ok at a quick glance but gets worse the longer you stare at her. If she just had the braids and the front hair together she wouldn't look good, but I could accept the hairstyle on another outfit, but then I noticed that she has long loose hair behind, which makes the already kinda stupid front look even more stupid, and wait are the braids attached to hairbuns??? I'm just saying, aren't there like a thousand references for nordic braids you could've chosen from?

The tiny boob window? Stupid. The way her skirt is basically floating to stay upright? Stupid. The crotch V-cut on her mesh pants? Stupid. Her rune Soulgem on her thigh? Would be cool if the design worked properly to draw the eye there instead of loading her up with distracting accesories. All the belts dangling from everywhere including the boots? Stupid, or at least the ones of the skirt would be okay-ish if not for the rest. Also, I don't know what the hell is up with that thing that is stuck to her meshed arm that I almost didn't notice because this whole fit is so confusing. It looks to me like a shield? That maybe was supposed to be attached outwardly to her arm, but then they photoshopped it wrong and forgot to add the bracers to attach it??? No idea but she looks worse because of it. But seriously someone get her a proper belt to hold her skirt.

I like how the gold was more cool in color, and the peacock headdress is real neat. But, yeah, like most I thought her outfit was, a bit much, so I tried change it in a way that didn’t stray too far from the style.

Fun fact, the sketch I used is from a abandoned Yachiyo drawing. You can see it under the cut.

I’m not fast enough to draw a new outfit for Ebony but I can at the very least give her some melanin.

so because i follow a couple magical girl blogs i’m seeing a lot of the new magia record girl on my dash.

And apart from the obvious “ebony dark’ness dementia raveen way” jokes, what i’m thinking is “how did it end up like this?”

Like, forgive me if I’m wrong, but PMMM started out as a really cool little series with a dark and golden twist about the concept of mahou shoujo, and they could have honestly left it at that.

But then we got Oriko, Kazumi and Tart, and then Magia Record, and the more of it I’m seeing the more I’m thinking that it seems to be so far from the original concept it’s honeslty remarkable.

And now with Ebony, and I’m pretty uncomfortable with seeing kid characters (at least she seems to be a teenager) with her sort of clothing, especially since I’ve learned about the ways anime art style has changed over the years, and I dunno man it just feels off in some way.

Chibi sketches I've made for Magia Union Translations for their & MagiReco's anniversary, 2023 and 2022! I'm deeply appreciative of all their hard work translating the game and I'm really happy that MagiReco has been alive for this long.

While I still need to catch up on the stories, I really feel like Puella Historia as a whole is one of my favorite story arcs in the whole game, and I'm stoked that we got Historia Yachiyo!

I’m still kind annoyed they didn’t use the existing girls from the anime for Puella Historia. But they did use all the places/theming, it feels like a bit of a kick in the dick for people who liked those old characters. Like, were the old ones not sexualised enough for you, hm? Needed to make new more scantily clad characters to appeal to our audience of middle aged men.

But one thing I noticed. Almost all the girls line up (aside from a few misc historical girls and the bear girl who was pretty ambiguous anyway) so was there a reason they missed out the girl from the savanna, hm? Please, pray fucking tell, do tell me. Was it, gasp, because you ABSOLUTELY could not have another dark skinned character in the game, no, no, no, that would not appeal!! And of course we cannot research culture outside Japan because thats tooooo hard!

Yeah, no, im kinda mad
