more of my personal headcanon, but because of the way that kyubey phrases his contact to homura in ep.10 of the original anime, plus all of the stuff with souls, i just kind of assume that if they don't have the potential to have their wish granted and it can't be like, fudged, then their soul just gets destroyed.

I’m curious, has there been like,,,actual explanation from any pmmm material on what would happen if someone tried to make a wish that they couldn’t make because they don’t have enough karmic destiny? Like,,,madoka’s final wish only worked BECAUSE she had so much karmic destiny tied to her. So what would happen if someone else tried to make the same wish she made but theoretically couldn’t because they didn’t have the amount of karmic destiny she is?

idk if this makes sense. Karmic destiny in pmmm as explained in the original series is so interesting and I feel like is often under utilized

Yes, this has been showcased in Magia Record by a few magical girls! For example, Felicia Mitsuki accidentally killed her parents as a child due to a prank that caused their house to burn down. Kyubey approached her and she asked to “make it so what just happened never happened.”

But Felicia didn’t have enough karmic potential to bring back the dead or rewind time (or she simply poorly worded her wish), so instead her memories were altered to remove her guilt. She instead was made to believe a Witch killed her parents.

There are a few other examples of this in Magia Record, where a magical girl’s wish is stretched or interpreted in a different way due to their insufficient karma.

Bio: She is a magical girl who has been making suggestions to herself and turning her back on reality. On the surface, she is a friendly and amiable girl, but she also has a ruthless nature that will not hesitate to make a decision that will make someone else miserable. She tastes happiness when she goes out and misery when she comes home.

Designer Notes: Mirror motifs and silhouettes are scattered throughout. Although the dress is a pretend dress, we were careful not to make it look overly ornate to fit the world of Madoka Magica. The headdress is my favorite. I painted the eyes and hair to look like shards of glass, but I had a hard time expressing it properly in the card illustration. —[Character designer: Punyan]

Other design notes:

- shoes are confirmed to be glass

- hair ornaments (flowers) are translucent

- Soul Gem is meant to look like a mirror frame

Doppel Bio: The Doppel of seclusion. Its form is a mirror. The master of this emotion is angered by how her Doppel disdains reality yet refuses to move, and attempts to take control of it herself. This Doppel drew out a precise and intricate ideal world for itself, but placing a mess of complicated emotions onto that world has rendered it unable to move. There was a time when it tried to project its imagination onto mirrors to weave its ideal world, but the products of its own imagination felt not only bland, but outright shallow. In the end, after continually agonizing and chipping away at its own heart, its form changed into a flat, symmetrical shadow. Sick of the sight of her own Doppel hiding and worrying, its master proposed that they simply tack on the parts that were missing– to find living sacrifices with which to supplant its imagination. The Doppel agrees with its master’s suggestion.

Doppel Design Notes: Anomalies spread by the witch in a mirror that merges rolled ammonites. Both the witch and her doppelganger were cut out by f4, who said, "The thin part was very difficult.” - Doppel design by Inu Curry Theater Company (DoroInu)
