In defence of Adrian’s absence from the s5 finale

Alright, so, a lot of people are upset that we saw very little of Adrien in the season 5 two-parter finale, especially considering it as evolving around the Agreste family and especially his father. Now, while I too would have liked to see more of him (and think in general this show ignores him at times too much) the finale was set up this way that it was necessary for him to be absent.

Why was it necessary?

Remember that little episode called “Chat Blanc”? Remember what happened in that scenario where Gabriel confronted Adrien/Chat Noire not only with the fact that he is Hawkmoth but also that he wishes to bring back Emilie, all while threatening Marinette/Ladybug? Didn’t the world get kinda destroyed by Adrien becoming akumatised? 

Didn’t we kinda witness throughout all of s5 how violent/destructive Adrien can get when someone threatens someone he loves? Didn’t we all count the instances where he just wished to cataclysm everything? His trauma of cathaclysming Hawkmoth/Monarch, who while a villain, is still a human being? The sheer dread of what he saw in the nightmare scenario of becoming Anti-Chat and killing Ladybug?

Doesn’t he get that violent part from his father? Protecting loved ones even on the cost of everything else.

Adrien himself says in the session finale that he is afraid of what he could do, that he is far too emotionally vulnerable at that moment to join Ladybug in the fight. Isn’t that incredibly mature and brave of him to say?

Believe me, him being emotionally vulnerable like his father will play a part in future episodes as well as him being in the dark of what was really going on. But when it comes to the fight in the finale he was a far better help and support to Ladybug by trusting her and keeping harm away from her.

Its incredible to see how much their dynamic has evolved and how strong their relationship has become.

Also, wold like to point out the difference between Marinette and Gabriel in this.

Gabriel is a broken man since his wife's passing, completely lost in life and fallen into insanity. He only manages occasionally to pull himself together when around his son and only realises his mistakes after finally watching a recorded message of his wife.

Marinette on the other hand, while heartbroken that Adrien had been separated from her by a long distance and that Chat Noire is not by her side during this fight, she is so aware of Adrian's love for her and so strengthened by the faith Chat Noire has in her that she has confidence and strength of mind to defend the whole world on her own.

i don’t love chat noir not being in final fight with his father, but at the same time i do love that this was the first finale where we see ladybug 100% confident in the face of impossible odds. she’s clearly terrified out of her mind but she never stops and doubts whether she can win. and it’s not that she doesn’t still need her team because she does and everyone is behind the scenes helping her, but this is the first finale we’ve seen her without any doubt in her ability to win. it’s the first time she doesn’t need a pep talk from chat noir to keep her going.

but even though she doesn’t need a pep talk and he’s not physically there with her, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t still need him. it means that he’s part of her now even when he’s not there. you can feel the boost of confidence after she transforms into bug noire and it’s more than just the added power. it’s that this time she doesn’t have the ring because he abandoned her but instead because he has faith she can and will save them all. she can only do it without him because he believes she can, and through that she can believe in herself. she’s finally able to internalize the things he’s told her every finale. girl didn’t doubt for a second that she could kick gabriel’s ass and reform her team and she didn’t doubt her chat noir would be part of that team. i love how confident and strong she was and how far she’s come.

This has to be addressed in s6. This has to be a set-up for her as a new big villain.

Remember, it was her who was forcing the idea of Adrien and Kagami as a perfect couple. It even seemed often like she was black-mailing Gabriel into it.

Why did she know so much about the Miraculous? Why did he even confide in her about it? What is her background in futuristic technology? What's her deal???????

What was Tomoe's place in all this

No backstory on why she wanted the perfect child like the Agrestes

No origin

No consequences for her conspiring with a terrorist

What does Kagami think of her

Is she just letting Tomoe's crimes slide or
