I'm afraid that's not unusual.

Some heavy topics Miraculous tries to bring up are brushed off with a happy, shiny resolution. As a result, it can end up looking like an extended PSA for kids, and you're just waiting for Ladybug and Chat Noir to turn to their viewers with a wag of their finger and say, "Remember! Verbal and emotional abuse is bad! On with the show!" Alix's situation differs in the sense the show doesn't address it as depressing at all.

My theory is because a) the story is too busy with other plotpoints, and b) Alix and her powers are there to serve as a quirky deus ex machina and a little Doctor Who reference.

Personally, I never thought about Alix's isolation as the writers' solution for her being aromantic. I think they thought of Alix as a Rabbit Miraculous holder first and aromantic second (if they thought about it) and didn't think that her story would send a bad message. Honestly, I'm not counting on her storyline having anything to do with her romantic orientation. The only confirmation we have about her romantic preferences at all is a tweet. If they were sweating over Zoe's confession to Marinette, then an aromantic or asexual character is uncharted territory. Look at Max. He is asexual, but nobody said he was aromantic, too. Maybe he is both. We don't know. We can't know because he has even less significance than Alix in the story, and he's never been shown to experiment with romantic relationships.

Does all of this still frustrate me as an aroace? Yes. Big yes. Miraculous was releasing at a time when Alix and Max were my first 'canon' aroace rep. The one that I related to got punted into a white void, another one had little effect on the narrative, and the one that I only headcanoned as ace was shoehorned into a comphet relationship that, to this day, gives me shivers.

With how season 6 is going, however, I have hope that they might acknowledge the tragedy of Alix's situation in the future and shine a spotlight on friendships + platonic and queerplatonic relationships. In the show's current end credits, Alix is paired with Luka. This isn't solid proof of their future interactions, but, then again, my only proof for Luka/Sublime is that Luka is the only single guy and Sublime is a new single girl that ate a white and blue ice-cream. Who knows? Maybe there is still hope for a non-romantic relationship that gets the same amount of focus as the show's romantic relationships.

Am I the only (aroace) person who feels off about Alix's writing? How she gets the most isolating miraculous where she spends years and years on her own (with sometimes over versions of herself) but it's not addressed how devastating that could be? Like I have the feeling she got that miraculous because she's the only character not interested in romance so they can justify her being "happy on her own"...

But friendships are still meaningful... She deserves a better life, or at least a more in depth exploration of her character

why jalil kubdel was the ideal candidate for a second hawkmoth 

in his focus episode we already know he was drawn to a spell to bring back to dead for some reason [looks at the mother shaped hole in the kubdel family]

he’s an archaeology student who would have the resources and know-how to investigate the miraculouses

hates ladybug because her war took away his little sister (and even if it’s technically hawkmoth’s fault, alix still had to go on the run because ladybug lost the miracle box). yes i know reunion technically resolved their issues but i think he should have still had a bone to pick with ladybug for putting her in this situation in the first place

strikes a really interesting balance between “realistically compelling” (his dad neglected him emotionally in favor of his golden child sister, possibly dead mom, and now the only family member that loves him has been taken away from him) and “frustratingly immature” (get the fuck over yourself and go to therapy for your daddy issues, dude) that i think works really well in a lot of villains

would have a different motivation from gabriel hawkmoth, opening the doors to new stories. in my mind, he would take up the hawkmoth mantle not because he wants the wish necessarily but because he wants ladybug and chat noir to give up their mantle as heroes, thinking that if all miraculous use ceased, the world would be a better place and his sister could come home. also maybe he can be nice to nooroo can we have that

would be an excellent case of a tragic self fulfilling prophecy. as we’ve seen before, family members wielding miraculouses at the same time only leads to disaster. even if alix tried to come out of the burrow and convince jalil face to face that the world needs ladybug, i think it would have resulted in some kind of world-ending fight or time paradox, forcing her to not intervene and watch her brother go down the rabbit hole into spiteful rage
