Behind every great Ministry is a horde of petty bureaucrats
Tumblr media
His Unholiness Papa Emeritus Nihil (Emeritus)
Veneration of Relics Hall
The Crypt
Ministry Headquarters
4 March 2020
Dear Papa Nihil,
We regret to inform you that you are no longer eligible for the Ministry’s final salary pension scheme and that payments will cease with immediate effect.
The Ministry’s generous pension provision allows for the beneficiary to receive a guaranteed income, based on your previous earnings, for life. That is to say, while one has a corporeal form.
You no longer have a corporeal entity and your spirit is now tied to another plane of existence. Thus, per the Ministry-Infernal Treaty (Afterlife, Additional Lives and Resurrections) of 1649, the maintenance of your ethereal form is now the responsibility of whichever realm or channel through which you choose to manifest.
If you are unhappy with our decision you may make a complaint to the Pensions Ombudsman or pursue a judicial review. However, you should be advised that Hell hath no fury like a petty administrative bureaucrat scorned.
NemA and kindest regards,
Ministry (In)Human Resources

"The resident PR Management ghoul" I have this headcanon that after Era 3 Special got transferred to human/ghoul resources and now has to deal with endless questions from siblings of sin (and a specific cardinal) about the ministry and its ghouls. Every week there's a new issue that he has to fix because some of the ghouls felt a bit mischievous. He's still considered as Sister Imperator's lapdog though

"The Netherlands is pulling even further ahead of its peers in the shift to a recycling-driven circular economy, new data shows.
According to the European Commission’s statistics office, 27.5% of the material resources used in the country come from recycled waste.
For context, Belgium is a distant second, with a “circularity rate” of 22.2%, while the EU average is 11.5% – a mere 0.8 percentage point increase from 2010.
“We are a frontrunner, but we have a very long way to go still, and we’re fully aware of that,” Martijn Tak, a policy advisor in the Dutch ministry of infrastructure and water management, tells The Progress Playbook.
The Netherlands aims to halve the use of primary abiotic raw materials by 2030 and run the economy entirely on recycled materials by 2050. Amsterdam, a pioneer of the “doughnut economics” concept, is behind much of the progress.
Why it matters
The world produces some 2 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste each year, and this could rise to 3.4 billion tonnes annually by 2050, according to the World Bank.
Landfills are already a major contributor to planet-heating greenhouse gases, and discarded trash takes a heavy toll on both biodiversity and human health.
“A circular economy is not the goal itself,” Tak says. “It’s a solution for societal issues like climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution, and resource-security for the country.”
A fresh approach
While the Netherlands initially focused primarily on waste management, “we realised years ago that’s not good enough for a circular economy.”
In 2017, the state signed a “raw materials agreement” with municipalities, manufacturers, trade unions and environmental organisations to collaborate more closely on circular economy projects.
It followed that up with a national implementation programme, and in early 2023, published a roadmap to 2030, which includes specific targets for product groups like furniture and textiles. An English version was produced so that policymakers in other markets could learn from the Netherlands’ experiences, Tak says.
The programme is focused on reducing the volume of materials used throughout the economy partly by enhancing efficiencies, substituting raw materials for bio-based and recycled ones, extending the lifetimes of products wherever possible, and recycling.
It also aims to factor environmental damage into product prices, require a certain percentage of second-hand materials in the manufacturing process, and promote design methods that extend the lifetimes of products by making them easier to repair.
There’s also an element of subsidisation, including funding for “circular craft centres and repair cafés”.
This idea is already in play. In Amsterdam, a repair centre run by refugees, and backed by the city and outdoor clothing brand Patagonia, is helping big brands breathe new life into old clothes.
Meanwhile, government ministries aim to aid progress by prioritising the procurement of recycled or recyclable electrical equipment and construction materials, for instance.
State support is critical to levelling the playing field, analysts say...
Long Road Ahead
The government also wants manufacturers – including clothing and beverages companies – to take full responsibility for products discarded by consumers.
“Producer responsibility for textiles is already in place, but it’s work in progress to fully implement it,” Tak says.
And the household waste collection process remains a challenge considering that small city apartments aren’t conducive to having multiple bins, and sparsely populated rural areas are tougher to service.
“Getting the collection system right is a challenge, but again, it’s work in progress.”
...Nevertheless, Tak says wealthy countries should be leading the way towards a fully circular economy as they’re historically the biggest consumers of natural resources."

By EDITH M. LEDERER Updated 9:11 PM PST, March 8, 2024 UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Legal equality for women could take centuries as the fight for gender equality is becoming an uphill struggle against widespread discrimination and gross human human rights abuses, the United Nations chief said on International Women’s Day. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told a packed U.N. commemoration Friday that “a global backlash against women’s rights is threatening, and in some cases reversing, progress in developing and developed countries alike.” The most egregious example is in Afghanistan, he said, where the ruling Taliban have barred girls from education beyond sixth grade, from employment outside the home, and from most public spaces, including parks and hair salons. At the current rate of change, legal equality for women could take 300 years to achieve and so could ending child marriage, he said. Guterres pointed to “a persistent epidemic of gender-based violence,” a gender pay gap of at least 20%, and the underrepresentation of women in politics. He cited September’s annual gathering of world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly, where just 12% of the speakers were women. “And the global crises we face are hitting women and girls hardest — from poverty and hunger to climate disasters, war and terror,” the secretary-general said. In the past year, Guterres said, there have been testimonies of rape and trafficking in Sudan, and in Gaza women women and children account for a majority of the more than 30,000 Palestinians reported killed in the Israeli-Hamas conflict, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. He cited a report Monday by the U.N. envoy focusing on sexual violence in conflict that concluded there are “reasonable grounds” to believe Hamas committed rape, “sexualized torture” and other cruel and inhumane treatment of women during its surprise attack in southern Israel on Oct. 7. He also pointed to reports of sexual violence against Palestinians detained by Israel. International Women’s Day grew out of labor movements in North America and across Europe at the turn of the 20th century and was officially recognized by the United Nations in 1977. This year’s theme is investing in women and girls to accelerate progress toward equality. Roza Otunbayeva, the head of the U.N. political mission in Afghanistan, told the Security Council on Wednesday that what is happening in that country “is precisely the opposite” of investing in women and girls. There is “a deliberate disinvestment that is both harsh and unsustainable,” she said, saying the Taliban’s crackdown on women and girls has caused “immense harm to mental and physical health, and livelihoods.” Recent detentions of women and girls for alleged violations of the Islamic dress code “were a further violation of human rights, and carry enormous stigma for women and girls,” she said. It has had “a chilling effect among the wider female population, many of whom are now afraid to move in public,” she said. Otunbayeva again called on the Taliban to reverse the restrictions, warning that the longer they remain, “the more damage will be done.” Sima Bahous, the head of UN Women, the agency promoting gender equality and women’s rights, told the commemoration that International Women’s Day “sees a world hobbled by confrontation, fragmentation, fear and most of all inequality.” “Poverty has a female face,” she said. “One in every 10 women in the world lives in extreme poverty.” Men not only dominate the halls of power but they “own $105 trillion more wealth than women,” she said. Bahous said well-resourced and powerful opponents of gender equality are pushing back against progress. The opposition is being fueled by anti-gender movements, foes of democracy, restricted civic space and “a breakdown of trust between people and state, and regressive policies and legislation,” she said. Reproduction of the mountain stream axolotl — a salamander on the brink of extinction that lives only in Central Mexico — has been successful under human care for the first time ever, the Environment Ministry of Mexico City (Sedema) announced this week. This significant milestone occurred about 25 kilometers southwest of Mexico City in a protected natural area of the Desierto de los Leones National Park, where a “maternity ward” was set up for the amphibians. In February, Sedema recorded the first instance of egg laying by the axolotls in their facility. The team of caregivers then monitored the embryonic development of over 70 eggs, employing a specialized infrastructure designed to ensure optimal growth conditions. The El Pantano Wildlife Conservation Management Unit includes independent enclosures that function as “cradles,” where the larvae are meticulously observed and provided with the necessary resources for their development. After nearly three months of monitoring, the babies began to emerge, each less than 2 centimeters long. Now, the hatchlings (Sedema did not reveal their numbers in its press release) are being kept under constant monitoring, because the survival rate of axolotl offspring in the wild is usually very low. This species of axolotl (Ambystoma altamirani) measures about 23 centimeters long (9 inches) but can grow up to 30 centimeters (12 inches). Characterized by a dark, thin body often speckled with brown, black and white.

Former and current educators say Alberta’s already flawed education – around human sexuality, sexual orientation and gender – will only get worse under Danielle Smith’s proposed parental rights policies. Last month, Smith said parents would soon need to opt-in to any formal instruction on these topics. She also said all third-party material would need to be pre-approved by the Ministry of Education to ensure they’re “age appropriate.” “I worry about, if third parties aren't allowed in, if it's restricted on what you can talk about, where do those youth get the support or the resources they need if, for example, they're part of a sexual or gender minority?” said Pam Krause, president and CEO of the Centre for Sexuality.

Civil Defense rescuer Nooh Al-Shaghnobi responds to a bombing attack on the Al-Barbari family home in Zaytoun. He reports that 15 people are trapped under rubble. Rescuing trapped survivors and martyrs has become infinitely more difficult and dangerous due to the IOF assault and blockade, which has targeted Civil Defense resources and prevented the entrance of fuel to power machinery. This means at every site, Nooh and his colleagues must move tons of dangerous and sometimes toxic rubble by hand.
The Gaza Ministry of Health and Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor both report that thousands of civilians in Gaza are trapped under rubble. Many of them will die before they can ever be rescued. These deaths can be due to injuries, suffocation, dehydration, and starvation. This scenario is the stuff of nightmares: trapped in a cramped space with nothing to support you and little hope of getting out.
When someone like a European cave diver or an American hiker, for example, dies in this way, it’s considered a tragedy and spawns thousands of hours of analysis. When it happens to thousands of Gazans, it’s not even worthy of a mention in the news.

I hope you're all aware of what's going on in Palestine. If you're not, they lost contact with wifi yesterday night and Israel are bombing hospitals, houses, shelters, and schools, using white phosphorus in real time, which is an internationally-banned weapon.
Palestinians are being annihilated in real time in the dark without access to internet. Israel already cut off water, electricity, food, and most hospitals in Gaza have already shut down. They have a full blown medical crisis, the ministry of education announced that the 2023-24 school year was cancelled because all the students are DEAD.
Last night, the bombing made the sky ORANGE. You could see Gaza on fire from the Egyptian border.
I'm going to reblog resources where you could find more information, and I'm gonna ask you all to do the same. Please. Palestinians are humans just like the rest of us, and the world wants them gone without question.
Don't let Israel get away with this.

INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS CALL FOR INVESTIGATION INTO MASS GRAVES, CIVIL DEFENSE WILL COOPERATE, SIGNS OF TORTURE ON BODIES IN GAZA
Gaza's Civil Defense ministry says it will cooperate with any independent investigation into the recent discovery of three mass graves containing hundreds of disfigured, decomposing bodies at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, in Gaza's south.
Mohammed al-Moghier, a member of the Palestinian Civil Defense, said his teams were prepared to compile an evidential report for an independent investigation in the crimes, telling reporters that "this can be the foundation for work to be conducted by an international investigation committee."
"We are ready to help their work in order to push the Israelis to refrain from committing crimes against people in Gaza,” al-Moghier is quoted as saying.
The horrific discovery was made following the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces (IOF) from the Khan Yunis area, after which three mass graves were found in the courtyard of the hospital complex.
At least 392 decomposing corpses have been recovered from the three mass graves so far, with only a fraction having been identified at the time of publishing.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, told Al-Jazeera News that while the international organization is collecting information on the mass graves, a mandate from the UN's legislative body would be required before evidence could be taken into custody.
“We’ve called for an international investigation. How that will take place? It’s unclear at this time. There are certain parts of this organisation that have the authority to do that,” Dujarric said.
“In the meantime, it’s important that all forensic evidence be well preserved,” Dujarric added.
The horrific discovery of the three mass graves is only the start, large numbers of the recovered bodies show signs of torture, reports say that 10 bodies had their hands bound, while at least 20 of the bodies showed signs they were buried alive, according the findings of a preliminary investigation.
While the international community has showed disgust and horror at the discovery, human rights organizations are calling on the Israeli occupation to allow investigators into the Gaza Strip.
In comments published on Al-Jazeera News, Donatella Rovera, a senior advisor with Amnesty International said, “the expertise, the skills, the resources – such as the ability to carry out DNA tests – none of that is available [in Gaza], and to make matters worse, there is the constant bombardment."
“Where there is evidence of a crime committed yesterday, it may be destroyed by a bombardment committed today,” she added.
According to Amnesty International, human rights investigators haven't been allowed into Gaza for many years.
“Something can be done immediately. That is for the Israeli authorities to allow independent investigators in immediately. If they have nothing to hide, they should have no reason in preventing them getting into Gaza,” Rovera concluded.

HAMAS Guidelines to Social Media (excerpts)
Anyone killed or martyred is to be called a civilian from Gaza or Palestine, before we talk about his status in jihad or his military rank. Don't forget to always add 'innocent civilian' or 'innocent citizen' in your description of those killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Begin [your reports of] news of resistance actions with the phrase 'In response to the cruel Israeli attack,' and conclude with the phrase 'This many people have been martyred since Israel launched its aggression against Gaza.' Be sure to always perpetuate the principle of 'the role of the occupation is attack, and we in Palestine are fulfilling [the role of] the reaction.'
Beware of spreading rumors from Israeli spokesmen, particularly those that harm the home front. Be wary regarding accepting the occupation's version [of events]. You must always cast doubts on this [version], disprove it, and treat it as false.
The interior ministry prepared a series of suggestions specifically for Palestinian activists who speak to Westerners via social media. The ministry emphasizes that conversations with them should be conducted differently from conversations with other Arabs.
When speaking to the West, you must use political, rational, and persuasive discourse, and avoid emotional discourse aimed at begging for sympathy. There are elements with a conscience in the world; you must maintain contact with them and activate them for the benefit of Palestine. Their role is to shame the occupation and expose its violations.
Avoid entering into a political argument with a Westerner aimed at convincing him that the Holocaust is a lie and deceit; instead, equate it with Israel's crimes against Palestinian civilians.
The narrative of life vs. the narrative of blood: [When speaking] to an Arab friend, start with the number of martyrs. [But when speaking] to a Western friend, start with the number of wounded and dead. Be sure to humanize the Palestinian suffering. Try to paint a picture of the suffering of the civilians in Gaza and the West Bank during the occupation's operations and its bombings of cities and villages.
Do not publish photos of military commanders. Do not mention their names in public, and do not praise their achievements in conversations with foreign friends!
Recently I came across a bunch more ancient/old maps of the Middle East, Near East, Levant, Israel, and others.
